OS 10.4.6 cd came with Macbook

I have tried to install OS 10.4.6 which came with an Intel based Macbook on my PCC G5 imac. However, at the start-up, a warning message showed up on the screen and the machine froze. The message said to turn off machine by pressing the power button.
Is it because the OS cd is just for Intel based Macs? Or do I need to update the firmware of my Superdrive? I could see the word, "Kernel" in fragmented sentences when the machine froze.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Baby Boomer is right. There are two problems:1-The disks are machine specific, 2-Intel System software is different than PowerPC System software. They are not the same. If you look in the Apple download area for the upgrades, you will see different System upgrades for PowerPC and Intel machines.
It's a definite no-go.

lost my application dvd that came with macbook pro, early 2011. any alternatives to get the applications in that??

I'm not sure how this is an iTunes issue, but anyway, other than buying the apps from the Mac App Store (note that iDVD and iWeb are not available via the App Store), the only alternative is to call Apple support and give them the serial number of your Mac. They can usually sell you a new disk set for a reasonable fee.

  • How do I use a usb web cam with MacBook Pro

How do I use a web camera with a MacBook Pro?  I want to run it through my laptop so I can project it on a screen for teaching a class.

You can try it, but probably not.
This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion).  You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

  • Install Snow Leopard from CD that came with MacBook Pro to different Mac

I need to re-install Snow Leopard on an older MacBook of mine I want to clean out for my wife.
The problem is the Snow Leopard CD (family pack) I purchased months ago is scratched, damaged I believe by an iMac at my business. I want to see if it is possible to install 10.6 from the CD's I recently got with my new MacBook pro. I tried to use them in the MacBook (Intel) I'm trying to hand off to my wife but after I selected the language option I got an error message stating I couldn't install that disc on the computer. It already runs 10.6 so I know it's not an OS issue. Is my MacBook detecting that the installation CD is not the same one that came with it?
Sorry for the wordy post and thanks in advance for any help.

From what i can tell, the media contains only the necessary files to install to that model-specific hardware.
This is both for licensing & technical reasons. Licensing because that disc is licensed for use only with that specific Mac (not model, literally just that Mac) & technical because pre- & post-install scripts & other installer features on grey system discs are designed just for that model.
Curious. I know i've used system restore discs from one machine on another due to the fact that we used to - for reasons unknown to me - allow users to keep their restore discs, at which point they subsequently lost them.
Perhaps it's just older models that allowed it?
No matter. Thanks for the clarification.

  • Utilities tells me to restart computer with operating disks that came with MacBook where are they

We have three MacBook Pro 13" in the house.  I've never seen operating disks come with any of the products, What gives?  Trying to run a Utilities Disk Check because of a possible HD problem.  I the instructions are clearly written to "use your Mac OS X installation disk" ???? Where do I find such a thing?  We're stationed in Moscow I don't have a Genius Bar at my disposal.

There is option you lost your disk? if you did, than you have to buy a backup disk from apple store.
If you have Lion opration system than you can hold Command + Options (alt) in the secound you clicked the power button to open the disk utility that came with your computer.
If you sure you didn't got any operation disk, than contact the Apple Express Lane located in here: https://expresslane.apple.com
    Good luck.

  • Upgrading iMac to Leopard using Leopard disk that came with Macbook Air

I recently go a Macbook Air. I would like to use the Leopard install disks that came with the Air to upgrade my Intel iMac. When I try to install using the Air install disks I get an error saying that the upgrade is not possible.
Not sure if its not possible because of certain configuration restrictions or maybe I'm not supposed to upgrading because of copywrite restrictions.
    Thanks,
    Joel Simkhai

No problem Rodney. I an understand your frustration with the issue.
Hopefully this reminds you that education is probably the best way to combat piracy. The second best way, in my opinion, is to give consumers one of the options what they want - the ability to download software, movies, music, etc without cumbersome restrictions. Probably doesn't make sense for most people to download a whole operating system-but the day is approaching. Personally, I think the future of installed software that needs to be manually upgraded are numbered. Instead we'll probably see the operating system and all needed software customized for the user hosted on centralized (hopefully encrypted, secure, backup-ed and private) servers.

  • "No Airport Installed" but it came with Macbook & has worked for 1.5 yrs?!

I am not sure if this is Airport Express? It came w/my Macbook, already installed.
It has worked fine w/ no problems till this morning. Was working fine last night. Did nothing but turn it off last night, this morning turned it on, & says no internet connection. Clicking on Airport icon up by clock says only "No AirPort Card Installed."
Followed troubleshooting on this site, which lead me to the Apple Menu, About This Mac, More Info, Network: Airport Card: "No information found." Troubleshooting says this means I need a new Airport Card.
Any idea why this happened? $$ is super short right now- are there any other possible solutions? How much is a new Airport Card going to run me?

I have had the same problem!
Within the 1 year warranty I took my MacBook Air into the store I bought it in as I could not connect to the net due to "No airport card installed" Strangely, when instore, it suddenly worked!
A friend of mine bought a new Mac and I was lucky enough to be given her old IMac, and so did not use my MacAir for a while, when I did, and passed the warranty date, I had the same problem.
It recently reared to life all by itself, without doing anthing. But died again after about a week. I now have too tried all the suggested fixes I can find - nothing works.
This is clearly a widespread problem. You only need search "No airport card installed" and thousands of forums come up. Is anyone from Apple reading these forums? Surely if this is an Apple default customers should be entitled to a replacement, or at the very least a lasting solution to the problem?
I live in Dubai, and unfortunately there is no Apple store here, and no information on this site provides any help as far as support goes for the Middle East!
I am utterly disappointed. My Mac has harldy been touched, and is a rather pricey decoration!
*Try resetting your PRAM and NVRAM - this seems to have worked for some people.*

That's my question. I have an iSight and like the idea that it is moveable and I can show people my apartment! If I buy a new MacBook Pro (which I will) can I choose to use the external iSight? Can I choose either one if the external one is connected? etc..
    thanks.

I can confirm that an external camera can be plugged into a MacBook Pro and selected in the Video section of ther iChat Preferences.

  • How to get Original OS DVD That Came With MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I bought this MacBook Pro last year - I think I did not get a restore DVD with the OS etc. with it. Is there a way for me to get it from Apple?
    Thanks,
    Apurva

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

  • Sony digital camera wouldn't work with macbook after OS 10.4.7 update

I am having problem with the my sony T-1 digital camera, after I plug it into Macbook, it will not show that the camera is being connect at the USB port.( with OS 10.4.7)
The guy at Genius bar told me that there could possibly be some problems with the software and ask me to reinstall the OS X software that came with Macbook. I did. I erased everything and reinstall the whole OS X. Right after that my Macbook was able recognise the digital camera that was plugged into the USB.
However, after I updated my software to 10.4.7. Now it would not recognise the camera at USB port again...
What should I do now, please help. Thank you.

USB and Firewire Zip and Jazz drives exist which work with Mac OS X a lot better than SCSI. I would suggest selling the old SCSI one to someone who can better use it, and get yourself more up to date drives:

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

  • Can i use a 85 watt charger for my macbook pro that came with an 60 watt charger?

My charger broke a few weeks ago and i ordered another one on amazon and that broke within a week so i'm going to just buy another one from the apple store. But i dont want to wait to order one because i currently cant use my laptop since it died (i dont live near an apple store), but theres a store that sells apple products. they only have 85 watt for the laptops though. so would i be able to use that without ANY issues? I would rather order from the apple store than to buy something that can cause problems, so i just want to know if my macbook will be safe if i use an 85 watt instead of the 60 watt, which is what originally came with my laptop. Thank you.

An 85 watt charger will be fine. Generally, you can use a higher-powered charger than the one that came with your MBP - but using a lower-powered charger is not recommended.

  • Everything on my macbook 5.1 was erased and then the person who erased it could not find start up disc to reinstall. i called apple and gave them the serial number and they sent me leopard os 10.5 which is what originally came with the computer. not work

i was given a macbook 5.1 by my mom, being nice, she erased everything on it, but then could not find the original start up disc. i called apple and had the serial number and said that leopard 10.5 was the operating system that orginally came with it, so i bought it. when i got it,i turned on computer, put in dvd, and immediately shut it off, then turned it back on while pressing letter c. (they told me to do this) i can hear the disc turning but alls i get is blank screen then it shuts down, and restarts. nothing ever shows up on the screen. did i get a wrong disc? should there be something different than just the mac os x leopard 10.5 to get this computer to work again?? thanks for your help!

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.
