OS 10.4.6 crashes with ipod+itunes....and also without.

My computer was running fine untill I got an ipod+itunes.
When I have the ipod(video) hooked up via USB and i try and play music off of the ipod through the powerbook it will eventually just stop. It seems to be random if it happens on the 1st song or on the 15th...it will just stop playing and give me a beachball mouse pointer when i put the mouse over itunes.
If i try and Force Quit the app it does go off the screen, but the little black arrow stays on under the icon in the launcher bar.
If I try and shutdown, it doesn't work. It almost gets to the end of the shutdown process, but the background color stays up, and the finder bar at the top stays up, without icons or text, and it just hangs.
I have to hold down the power button to shut the computer off and then restart it.
After this started happening i started to get more weiredness....I usually close my screen when i walk away from it at work. When I come back I open the screen and it gives me the password propt. Sometime it will also hang here, giving me the beachball pointer, and the mouse will not move, and the computer will not accept any commands. Again, reboot with holding down the power switch.
Lastly it also just sometimes stops responding when its jsut been sitting for a bit....Except somtimes text appears over the desktop, something to the affect of "darwin login" and a bunch of numbers and such.
So i took it into the Genius Bar. And the guy pulled up a terminal window and did top -u
The updates were very slow to update. And that was all the help he provided.
I came home and uninstalled iTunes completely, and top -u started to update at a normal pace.
I then reinstalled iTunes and the update is sill at a normal pace.
So I went to reinstall the OS, and i can't find my CD. I think i left it in the box when I threw it out.
I'm looking for suggestions on what steps I can take to get this situation remedied.
thanks in advance guys/gals.

Why do you want to play music off your iPod when connected to the computer when you can do so with iTunes?
Keeping the install package that ships with a new Mac purchase in a safe place is always a good idea for a number of reasons. Running Disk First Aid repair on the hard drive and for re-installing an individual application or the entire OS if needed. If you cannot find the install package, you should contact AppleCare about getting a replacement.
As I'm sure you know (and although it appears you've had no other choice), a hard or improper computer shut down is not good for a hard drive under any platform.
As a first step, I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.
Since you cannot find the install package that shipped with this Mac when new, you'll need to use fsck instead in place of running Disk First Aid repair.
Check this link for instructions to run fsck.

hi my itunes crashes everytime i try to excess the itunes store,it seems to work fine until that point, ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and also tried it with my fire wall off but all to no avail. i  am using a new computer which isnt authorized yet if that makes any difference. any help would be greatly appreciated

Windows 8 or Windows RT? iTunes won't run on Windows RT. It should run on Windows 8. Use the appropriate installer from an account with administrator privileges.
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • Need help with ipod itunes syncing problem just occured

i restored my computer to factory settings and when i did that i lost my itunes and when i reinstalled it and tried to sync my ipod to the new installation of itunes it said that my ipod is synced with another itunes and that to sync it wiht this itunes it would delete and replace all data on my ipod with data from my itunes which is nuthing please help i dont wanna lose all my songs and apps an all that

You should have created a backup of your Itunes library before your computer restore to factory setting so that you can copy them to your new iTunes.
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter on her laptop i now cannot copy films into movies on itunes. Even though I always did with my itunes and her ipod on my laptop.
    Any thoughts please?

Have uninstalled then re-installed iTunes and it sees my iPhone but doesn't show the battery state.
I have rebooted my laptop and, guess what, iPhone is now NOTseen! Who designed this software, an idiot? Oh, I forgot Apple programmers don't know anything about Windows especially Windows 7. I still think this has to do with the differing formats as if there are pictures on the iPhone, Windows sees it as a camera and it is possible to see the pictures in Explorer, so these must be stored in FAT format. Maybe someone needs to design the phone to tell Windows that it's a phone and tells Windows to load the correct drivers. Maybe that's too difficult!

  • Started with iPod/iTunes (home pc) several years ago. Added iPhone, iPad, laptop and office pc.  Have multiple iTunes/iMusic folders

Started out with iPod/iTunes on a home pc several years ago. Added iPhone, iPad, laptop and office pc.  Have multiple iTunes/iMusic folders on all 3 computers -- using iCloud to access media on iPhone/iPad.  What's the best way consolidate songs, movies, books, etc prior to phasing out home pc?  Which machine (laptop or office pc) is best to use as the master host for iTunes/iMusic going forward? Don't want to lose anything or create numerous duplicates.

I finally resolved this... by changing everything over to a new laptop.  I had been running iTunes on a Vista desktop, and moved Outlook and iTunes to a Win7 x64 laptop.  Once I got everything installed, I copied the iTunes folder to the laptop, transferred the purchases, backed up the iPhone and iPad to the new iTunes, and then synched them.  Set iTunes to sync Calendar, Contacts, Mail, and Notes on both, and resynched.  Once this was done and I verified that everything was intact on both the iPhone and the iPad, I tried entering a calendar event on the phone and then did another sync.  The event showed up in Outlook.  I then deleted the event from Outlook and did another sync and the event was gone from the iPhone.  Did the same with the iPad and got the same results.  So this apparently was something related to the desktop or Vista; I never got it resolved on the desktop.  Not sure what it could be, but now that it's resolved I'm going to leave it alone.  Maybe after I upgrade to an iPhone 5, I might try messing with the iPhone 4s on the Vista desktop.  If I do, and happen to get it resolved, I'll surely post something regarding that.

  • Sync Problem with iPod Touch and Apple TV relating to iPhoto

I have recently recovered from a crash and has to restore everything from my time machine.
I have an iPod touch that syncs with my itunes and therefore with my iPhoto.
Same thing with my Apple TV syncing via itunes with my iPhoto.
After the restore. I have this message:" itunes cannot sync photos to the Apple TV because of a problem on your computer. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Previously I got the same message when syncing iPod touch with iPhoto. Then I opened iPhoto package content and remove the iPod Photo cache. that solves my iPod touch sync problem.
How can I sync with Apple TV again?

I believe you need to reset the Sync services data. Assuming your data on the Mac is correct (or correctable), try this:
    1. If it is easy enough to do, clean up iCal. There are AppleScripts and other tools on the Internet to do this.
    2. Save a copy of you calendar. Just in case. (File, Back up iCal...)
    3. Exit iCal.
    4. Start iSync.
    5. Preferences, Reset Sync History. (If it is greyed out, wait a few minutes.)
    6. Quit iSync.
    7. Start iTunes and plug in your iPod.
    8. Select your iPod and go to the Info tab.
    9. Make sure you have the correct Calendars selected. At the bottom, under Advanced, under Replace information on this iPod, select Calendars.
    10. Sync.
    That should do it.
Normally, the fiddling with iSync should clear things up, so you can try just that, and syncing, but since your have a messed up situation, I'd go through all these steps once.

  • HELP: Conflict between iPod/iTunes and AverMedia USB vid cap device ?!?

I have: an iPod photo with a firewire connection and latest iTunes, an AverMedia DVD EZMaker Pro USB2.0 (an analog video capture device), on a Gateway 9310X desktop with Windows XP.
I cannot get both iPod/iTunes and the AverMedia video capture device to work on my system.
After pulling my hair out for many days trying to get these to work, I did a full Windows System Recovery to wipe out everything on my hard drive, and then restore it to the original state when Gateway first shipped it. I did that twice...
The first time, I installed just the AverMedia USB hardware and software. I used it for several hours and it worked fine capturing video from my camcorder. Then I installed the iPod/iTunes software, and the problems began (see below).
The second time I did a full System Recovery, I installed just the iPod/iTunes software. I played with all of it's features for over an hour and that worked fine. Then I installed the AverMedia driver and the problems appeared (see below).
    There are two problems:
    (1) When using iTunes (playing music from iPod), music will play normally for a few moments, then it is replaced by a constant high pitched tone. Once this happens, even other applications (eg: Winamp) will only produce the high pitched tone. I am connecting my iPod to a firewire port.
    (2) When I plug in the AverMedia video capture hardware to the USB port, I get a message that the new hardware was not installed properly. And the bundled video capture software cannot find the device. Usually, if I reboot and use only the AverMedia product without using iTunes at all, it will work fine.
Any suggestions about how to resolve this apparent conflict?
    Thanks!
Gateway 9310X   Windows XP   AverMedia DVD EZMaker Pro USB2.0 (analog video capture device)

OK, what exactly have you tried? I don't want to waste my time and yours suggesting things you've already done.
A little tip for the future; when something starts to degrade, that's the time to look at it, don't wait for it to fail altogether, the remedy is likely to be more costly, painful, difficult and time consuming (or all of the above).

  • Macbook pro early 2011 - overheat and crash with blue screen and glitches

    Hi
since last wednesday my MBP has started to freeze and then crash with bluescreen, glitches and so on...
Most of the time doesnt not restart with any command as is overheating as well.
I did a clean installation on friday night and i am now running mavericks and then again on sunday it start with all the above issue. At the moment i am able to restart only if i reset NVRAM each time, which i do not think is really safe to do it everytime.
    i also tried
    Macs Fan Control
    gfxCardStatus
to fix but they doesn't help.
I read many customers are now experiencing similar problems with this mac as the GPU Amd is faulty.
APPLE SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE IT or will lose many custumers
I am now waiting to be seen at Genius bar on sunday, however i read about etrecheck in this related post

and meanwhile i want to hear your opinion...

  • Is there a problem with the itunes and quick time download pages or is it my internet.

Is there a problem with the itunes and quicktime download pages or is it just my internet.

Some more developments ... the issue appears to be browser-specific. I can't see the download controls at the moment in either IE 8 (I'll get your message) or Safari for Windows 5.0.5 (I'll just get the blank box). But I can see the download controls in Firefox 4 and Chrome (whatever version I have of that).
So it might be worth installing Firefox and seeing if you can get the downloads via that:

When you saw this dialog box, did you choose "Erase and Sync"?
If you did, your iPhone was erased, then your iTunes Library was transferred to it. If your iTunes Library was empty, your iPhone will be also.
Your previously purchased music, apps, books, and videos are still yours. You just have to download them again.
