OS 10.5.4 will not bind to Active Directory.

Long story short, our macs (for the graphic designers) using Leopard that were able to login to the computer via active directory server without any problems for months, no longer can and we have no idea why. They worked in the morning yesterday, and suddenly their email (entourage) was disconnected, and when restarting, their domain user accounts no longer work when logging in on the macs. Only local admin account can log in. Can't even log in with network system user.
Nothing was changed on the local machines or the server either.
you can however log in to the server to the server using a local user account and Apple+K into the server and log in with the user names and passes that were previously used as domain login without a problem.
Any particular cause for this? The system clocks are not off, no settings have changed, I re-joined the macs to the domain and active directory and now it won't even allow me to do that anymore. I get this exact error - "Unable to add domain. Error Type -14910 (eServerError)"
Very odd, IMO.
However, our ONE mac that is still on 10.4 works perfectly.
Any insight?

We've stuck with 10.5.2 because of the bug in 10.5.3 that caused file corruption with CS3 documents saved over the network. 10.5.4 seems to have broken AD binding (maybe it was 10.5.3, wouldn't know since we passed on it). Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't already been fixed in the 10.5.5 forthcoming release (just a guess).

  • Exchange Distribution Groups not updating in Active Directory

    Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is intended behaviour or not, but any distribution group we create in Exchange ECP does not update in Active Directory Users and Computers. Any particular reason why?
For example, we have a user group called "Managers" and we've recently created a new group called Area Managers. We've since moved some people out of Managers and put them in Area Managers, however in Active Directory all we see is the Managers
group with all the old managers in there. The OU for the Area Managers group has been set correctly.

    Hi,
Please run the following command to confirm the members of two groups.
    Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Area Managers
    Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Managers
I also suggest to remove the member from “Managers” in AD then check the members of “Managers” in EAC to check this problem.
    Best Regards.

  • LDAP will not Bind

I am running 10.5.1 on several systems and can not bind them to our LDAP directory. (no SSL) It worked fine in Tiger but no matter how I configure it in Leopard it will not work. Things I have done/noticed:
    1. Directory Utility reports that "The server is responding normally."
    2. Directory Utility - Services - I have the LDAP mappings set as "Custom" and configured identical to settings in Tiger
    3. Directory Utility - Search Policy - shows the custom path properly
    4. In Tiger I would test the set-up in Terminal by typing id xxxx which would return UID, GID, and Groups
I have rebuilt the system from scratch and tried rebinding twice with no luck.
Any ideas, questions, pointers, are greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
Is the OpenLDAP server on a computer with wireless connection active?
If so, try to only active the Ethernet interface.
It has resolved the problem for me, but I don't know why ? A bug on DirectoryService... ?

  • Binding to Active Directory Problem. I am a Newb! probably something stupid

    Hey All,
Trying to get my apple xsever to join our windows domain. I got it to bind and the user accounts show up on the machine but then it askes me to join it to the Active Directory Kerberos realm. I am confused.
what i am trying to do is joint it to the windows domain for my admin account on the actual server and then set up local user accounts on the machine so when my mac users log in they authenticate using the local mac account and not the windows domain account. Does this make sense? From what i read macs authenticate using the local account before going to the windows account which is what i want. I am a total newb to this so forgive me for the stupid questions.
    cheers all,
    jess

    Hi
set up the xserve as an Open directory Master
will it place nice on the network
with the rest of the windows servers that we have.
There should be no problem in doing this. All you need to do is decide whether you want your Mac Server to run its own DNS Service or to use the existing DNS service being provided by the AD Server. Open Directory Master requires DNS Services running somewhere.
i just want to have a mac studio of about 35 people be
kind of an island within a sea of windows users. If
there can be cross over there then fine.. but really
i want the mac to work well with the apple server and
if i can get the windows clients hooked up also then
    fine.
There should be no problem with this.
When you say studio do you mean a graphics design studio? Or are you talking about a video production studio? If the answer is yes to either one or both then perhaps a simple file server would do. An Open Directory Master is OK in this environment but your network needs to be up to job. Ideally gigabit ethernet certainly for video production and also if your studio are heavy photoshop users. You could get away with 100Base-T but with 35 heavy users editing files stored on the server as well as Home folders it may be a bit too much. If this is the situation in your studio you would be better placed working locally and saving the files back to the server at the end of the day. You would set up your users with names and passwords in the OD directory node. Your studio can use those account details to log on to the server to access share points but still work locally if they need to. If you start windows services on the mac server then there should be no reason for windows clients to access share points on the mac server as well. Be careful how you configure windows services as you already have existing PC servers on the network.
As you have already stated your aim is to keep the macs completely separate from the PCs then consider connecting all your macs to a separate switch and have them running of a different IP address range and subnet mask. You could then use an intervening router to handle traffic between the two networks, this way you control cross platform access to shared resources. If you understand networks, routers etc then you should be able to accomplish this without too much trouble. Again searching the Server forums should give you plenty of ideas and advice on the best way to achieve what you want. As ever defining and deciding what you want you want the server to do is half the problem.

  • Binding to Active Directory - strongauthrequired

I am trying to bind a 10.4.3 machine to a Windows 2000 Active Directory, but experiencing problems.
The Active Directory plugin hits step 5 then displays "Unable to access domain controller: This computer is unable to access the domain controller for an unknown reason".
A look at the contents of ./Library/Preferences/edu.mit.Kerberos shows that the machine has got the correct Domain Controllers for the domain (all be them rather odd choices, on sites that are some distance away).
I've captured the traffic using TCPDump and analysed on a WinXP box using Ethereal, and it seems that the Bind request is being answered by:
    'Bind Result, StrongAuthRequired'
with further info in the packet:
'The server requires binds to turn on integrity checking if SSL\TLS are not already active on the connection, data 0, v893'
I've analysed the traffic of an XP machine binding as well, and it seems that at exactly the same point it receives a 'bind success' packet. The only obvious difference I can see is that the OS X box shows the SASL mechanism as GSSAPI, and the XP machine shows it as GSS-SPNEGO.
They are both using port 389 (which certainly doesn't imply the use of SSL).
I've investigated the frequently mentioned 'Digitally sign client communication' Domain Security Policy settings, and haev replicating them in my test network (which has been tested with default settings and the machine binds successfully), and that still results in a successful bind so I'm not convinced they are related.
If anyone else has any other suggests they'd be greatly appreciated!
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

We've now got to the bottom of this problem, it's due to a particular policy which demands all clients sign their LDAP communications.
This setting doesn't appear in the Windows Domain Policy unless you're using a 2003 MMC snap-in, which certainly added to the time it took me to diagnose the problem (Apple's phone support simply said "we don't support the AD module").
Incase anyone else has the same issue, the registry key in question is:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters\LDAPServerIntegrity
When the key exists and is set to '2' (I'm unsure what '1' would do at present) OS X clients will received the following sequence of packets when binding:
    Mac: Bind Request
    Domain: SASLBindinprogress
    Mac: ACK
    Domain: SASLBindinprogress
    Mac: ACK
Domain: Bind Result = Fail; StrongAuthRequired
I'd be interested to hear the official line on this, as it appears that we are now in a situation where we need to reduce our domain security level if we want Macs to be able to bind.

  • Trying to 'Bind' in Active Directory

When I click BIND, it asks for a user name and password and the 'admin' password is not working:
    It reads...
Leave the advanced options alone for now and enter the name of your Active Directory domain. The computer’s account in AD will reflect the Computer ID in this window—make sure it reads correctly before proceeding. Click Bind.
Enter the user name and password of a user who has permission to bind clients to the Computer OU that you specify. This does not need to be an “admin” user—you may assign the privilege to any user. Click OK. <<
What do they mean by the Computer OU and how do I assign the privilege to a user?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Ok.... I got past that and it gave me an alert to go here What is Kerberos?(MIT):
    http://homepage.mac.com/enggass/Kerberos.jpg
What info is it looking for?
    User
    Pass
    Realm?
DNS (does it want the DNS number here?)
I just want the Windows machines on our network to see and access the server.
Obviously this is all new to me.

  • OIM 11gR2 user not provisioning to Active Directory (11.1.1.5 connector)

    Hello all,
I'm trying to set up an OIM 11gR2 instance to work with Active Directory with the Active Directory 11.1.1.5.0 connector. I've full installed both OIM and AD on separate servers, and I've installed the AD 11.1.1.5 connector on OIM. I have configured Active Directory properly (connector on OIM and the connector server on the AD server-side), and have set up the two IT Resources on OIM. I can run, for example, the Active Directory Organization Lookup Recon job and have it return results in the Lookup window.
My problem is that I cannot get it to provision to a user. I've created an Application Instance and Form for Active Directory, attached the Form, associated them with the appropriate resources (AD User), and added them to the Catalog, and then gone through the process of adding an account to the user, selecting the Application Instance, adding it to the cart, checking out, filling out the fields (Password, User ID, UPN, First Name, Last Name, Common Name, and Organization Name), and then submitting the request. This is all done as the xelsysadm admin user, but it still results with the account stuck on "Provisioning" because the "Create User" task failed due to a Connector Error (the reason stated is just a repeat of "Create Object" failed).
Anyone know what I'm missing here?
    Thank you!

The organization field attribute is filled in correctly, in that the OU I selected exists in AD.

  • Lion Server 10.7.4 VPN service not using my Active Directory domain for authentication

I have Lion Server 10.7.4 setup on a Mac Mini and I have enabled the VPN service for both L2TP and PPTP. The Mac Mini is joined to my Windows Domain at a functional level of Server 2008 R2. I have set the authentication paths to point to my domain in Directory Utility.
What I would like to have happen is for my laptop to be able to VPN into my office network remotely using domain credentials and not local account credentials on the Mac Mini itself. This is a process I have done numerous times on Windows boxes, but for some reason the only way I can get the VPN to work on this instance of Lion Server 10.7.4 is by authenticating using local accounts only.
Does Lion Server 10.7.4 only authenticate VPN users based on it's local account schema? Or can it truly authenticate against an active directory domain?
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

    Hi g-pirtle,
Yes, I had already done that a few days ago. I was able to add the desired AD group to the allowed users/groups for the VPN service. Thats exactly what is so weird about this...it allows me to search for and add an AD user or group to the list of allowed users/groups, but then when I actually try to use a domain account to authenticate to the VPN is just gives me the "cannot authenticate" error. Very strange.
I wondered if for some reason Apple is only allowing local accounts to be authenticated against. Sounds crazy, but I cannot for the life of me get this to work. I also wondered if Kerberizing the server would help, but when I go to join a Kerberos realm in Open Directory inside of Server Admin, it just has no realm listed in the drop down menu.
Other than that, all other aspects of the Mac Mini being joined to the AD domain seems to be good. I'm really stumped here...
    Thanks again,

  • Home Directory not mounted in Active Directory environment

I am trying to integrate a PowerMac G5 with Leopard 10.5.2 into an Active Directory. The Mac is bound to the AD without any problems. I can authenticate with my AD account and I also see the printers. However, I have problems using the network home directories.
If I activate "Force local home directory on startup disk" everything works as expected: The user logs in and gets a local home directory under /Users and can mount its network home directory with the finder without the need to authenticate again, so the single-sign-on works.
However, that's not what I want - I want the user to work solely in his networked home directory, not on the local disk. So I deactivate the button "Force local home directory on startup disk", but now the mount of the home directory fails. In the system.log I see the following:
/usr/libexec/mount_url[123]: smb_mount: open session failed!: syserr = Broken pipe
This is printed several times. If I try to access to automounted home directory under /Network/Servers/SERVER/USER in the terminal I also get "Broken pipe".
The strange thing: I can access the home directory with smbclient, I can also mount it with mount_smbfs, but if I try it with /usr/libexec/mount_url it fails although I use the exact same server and user directory.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

We have a similar issue here. Only the first AD User after reboot can login and the second one gets the same error as you. (see also: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6418268)
It looks like there is a problem with the automounter. I set the AUTOMOUNT_TIMEOUT to 60 seconds in /etc/autofs.conf, then after logout of the first user and waiting for 1 minute, the second user can log in.

  • Imacs not seen by active directory

We log users on through AD.

    This worked.......

    main points
Main points: Be sure your local time is being updated by a time server on your network, be sure that all devices are syncing with the same NTP server.
Pre add your computer you want to bind in your domain.
Key: in Directory Utility, choose to authenticate against a known server. So under the Administrative tab choose “prefer this domain server” and enter in the DNS name of a DC in your domain. Also uncheck authentication with any DC in the forest.
    Now bind and click Ok.
Now in Directory Utility, click on Search Policy, and add servers in the Authentication tab by choosing Custom Path. Click the + and you should see your domain or multiple domains in your forrest listed. Add them appropriately. In some configurations, you may want to do this for “Contacts”.
You can now go back into the Active Directory plugin, and choose to authenticate from any DC in the forest, and remove the selection that allows only authenticating against one server.

  • Date time field will not bind over into XML data file

am using the Current Date field in a form that is supposed to give me the current date & time. In the Object, Value, I am using a "calculated - Read Only" , with Run-time property of Date and Time. WHen I view this as a PDF, the current datae & time display on the form as well as when I view the body pages, the {current date/time} is displayed in the actual field of the form. My only problem is I want to bind this so I can export the data to an XML data file, to import to an Access Database. WHen I use these settings, I do not have a "binding" tab to use. WHen I change vaule to "calculation script), it then pops up the binding tab and let's me export the field to the XML data file, but the data in that field is not comming over (the date & time). The field comes into the database inport, but is blank. What am I doing wrong..?? Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Well, I'm assuming that when you change it to a calculation script you see the date in the PDF and therefore have the script to set the value written properly. So, if you change the binding from None to Normal or an explicit binding the date will be exported in the data. If all of that is correct, then the most likely problem is the data format you are exporting is not a format that your database will accept.

Take a look at the Page1 constructor.
It appears that you're trying to bind the datatable to 2
different rowsets. I suggest to clean up this
constructor to make sure you're using the right
    rowset.
Your value binding expressions on each column
of the datatable may not be set to the right column.

  • OS X Server 10.9.x Client will not bind to LDAP/OD Server 10.9.x

I've done multiple server updates, installs etc. with no luck.
I cannot get OS X Maverick 10.9.x clients to bind to a OS X Server Maverick 10.9.x Open Directory LDAP. I've tried clients & server installs of 10.9.1 , .2, & .3 with no luck. When I go to bind I get the mesage seen below. I know it's connecting because if I pruposly put in a wrong password for the "diradmin" user it tells me that credentials are wrong. If I put in the correct password I get this message.
The funny thing is that I still have setup two test servers with 10.7 & 10.8 server and clients of all version bind like they should. The issue is only with Mavericks Server 10.9.x
With searching around in Apple Disscussions I've seen articles that talk about changing DNS to the Mac Server which has not helped me plus we have DNS server in our network already so I do not wish to add more.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thank you!

Many Open Directory problems can be resolved by taking the following steps. Test after each one, and back up all data before making any changes.
    1. The OD master must have a static IP address on the local network, not a dynamic address.
    2. You must have a working DNS service, and the master's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. On the Accessing your Server sheet, change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
    3. The primary DNS server used by the master must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.
    4. Follow these instructions to rebuild the Kerberos configuration on the master.
    5. If you use authenticated binding, check the validity of the master's certificate. The common name must match the hostname and domain name. Deselecting and then reselecting the certificate in Server.app has been reported to have an effect in some cases.
    6. Unbind and then rebind the clients in the Users & Groups preference pane. Use the fully-qualified domain name of the master.
    7. Reboot the master and the clients.
    8. Don't log in to the server with a network user's account.
    9. Export all OD users, delete them, turn off OD, turn it back on, and import. Ensure that the UID's are in the 1001+ range.

  • Call library function will not retain change of directory for the library.

I have created a call to a dll made in Visual C++. Everything works fine. I then configure the vi to call the a newer version of the library that is in another directory. The Call Library Function dialog box updates with the new path. I click the OK button. Then configure the vi again to very my change took and it is back to the original path to the library.
Why can I not change where to find the library? I am sure that I can make a new vi an input all the parameters again, but I have many parameters and calls to the same dll. Making new ones each time the location of the dll changes is not an option.
    Thanks for your help.

If you have more than one VI accessing the same DLL, then you can't
change the DLL location without unloading all the other VIs first. This
is because Windows will always look first for the DLL in memory, before
even attempting to load it from disk. And if another VI makes use of
that DLL it will be still kept in memory.
