OS 10.6.5 Mac; File Firefox 3.6.13.dmg not identified; Won't download file
Tried to download FF 3.6.13. File seemed to down load but when trying to open the file error message stated: File not recognized. Macintosh OS 10.6.5. When I when I tried to download the file again, the download ran for about a minute or so and then said unable to download.
I have the same problem, and I have checked that I definitely installed the correct version for my mac...

The iOS SDK agreement requires apps to use Apple's own JavaScript engine (or none at all, like Opera Mini which downloads pre-rendered pages from Opera's servers and cannot run JavaScript code in the client). I have Firefox version 23.0.1 installed, update is set to "check for updates, but let me instal them". However it is not notifying me of up dates I know are available. I therefore did a manual update via Firefox>Help>About Firefox.
It says "updates are available at www.firefox.com
Clicking on link takes me to the FF homepage but the version check says,
"Congrats! You’re using the latest version of Firefox"
But a new version (24.0) of FF has been out for over 2 weeks
Clicking on "download a fresh copy" takes me to the page the language version page, all of which are at ver 24.0. I have downloaded and installed ver 24.0 on another laptop which had the same problem (I will shortly fix this one also), so this post is to see if this is a widespread issue .......

You will see from my answer on the other thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972803?esab=a&as=aaq) it seems to allow FF to update normally and the www.firefox.com homepage version check to work properly.
So both my systems are now fixed (though I guess I may have the same issue when next update comes out). However that still means there could be a lot of less technical (or lazy) users out there that are not updating FF because of this ....... -
Starting about a month ago, when downloading files using Firefox on my Mac (OSX 10.6.4, FF 3.6.12 currently), my downloads folder is showing .part files for successfully downloaded files. They cannot be deleted, and only show up in Downloads "stack". In Finder, the Downloads folder show no evidence of the .part files. I cannot delete the .part files either. Only a reboot seems to clear the problem.
It is as if the .part files aren't actually there, even though they are being displayed in the Downloads stack.Open firefox and in the menu, go to:
Tools > Options
Choose the "General" section (light switch icon)
There should be a downloads block there. It says something like "Save files to [_____________][Browse...]"
you should be able to click on browse and see where the folder is located. Then hit CANCEL (so you don't change it by mistake before you have found it for sure)
Once you have found the files, if you would like, you can go back in and change the location setting to somewhere you would prefer if you do not like where they are saving to. -
I have a MAC running Maverick. MP3 sounds will not play in Safari or FireFox, but will play if you download the file locally to the Desktop. How to resolve this?
You probably have an internet plugin installed that is preventing the MP3s from playing. I just checked a site with an MP3, and it played, rather than downloaded.
The internet plugin folders are at:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins and
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
(~/Library is hidden by default. Let me know if you don't know how to access it.)
My internet plugins were all in /Library; there were none in ~/Library.
Try moving these folders to the desktop (don't delete them), restarting, and then seeing if the MP3s play.
They it will be trial and error to see which plugin is responsible. -
Computer has Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Firefox has run fine for over a year on this computer. Nothing was changed or updated except Windows update shows that it installed updates on Aug 19. I had computer off for week before because out of town, came back and started on Aug 18, but Firefox worked on that day. Did not use FF again till today. Today on Aug 22nd, firefox will not start, shortcut icon has changed to program not there. Exe in folder when clicked brings up error message say the version of this file is not compatible with version of Windows I am running. Firefox exe shows created Aug 20. I suspect update, either Windows or FF but lean towards windows, happened that broke things. I notice IE 10 updates, .NET framework updates and malicious software removal tool updates were installed. I have tried restarting computer, did not fix. Tried to run as admin, didn't work. I do not want to uninstall FF unless have to because of all the stuff I have in there, bookmarks, last pass passwords, etc.

On a Mac and Firefox 3.6.6., I can't create a new bookmark in the organize bookmark folder, because it is gray. I used to be able to do this. How do I create a new bookmark in the bookmark folder?
For what it's worth, here's the bug on this: https://github.com/adobe/brackets/issues/1577. It will be fixed later when we move the Getting Started files out of the install folder.

10.5.2. Mac-to-Mac File Sharing problem
Sorry for the duplicate post. I posted this in the "Using OSX" forum as well since I wasn't sure the best place to post it.
I have two Macs running 10.5.2. A 2.5Ghz G5 connected via an ethernet cable to an AEBS. And a 2.4Ghz MBP that is wirelessly connected to the same router.
In 10.5.1, internet access, screen sharing, and file sharing worked flawlessly on both Macs. I installed 10.5.2 on both Macs and now file sharing is a problem when initiated from the MBP. BTW, I'm using AFP for file sharing.
Here's the scenario. I go into Finder on the MBP, choose the G5 Mac under "Shared" in the sidebar and begin to copy a file from the G5 to the MBP. All is well so far and the transfer speed is fine (~6 mbps). As soon as I load any webpage using either Safari or Firefox on the MBP, the file transfer slows to maybe 50-100kps. Closing the browser does not cause the transfer to speed up again. If I initiate the same file transfer from the G5 there is no problem and opening webpages on either Mac doesn't affect the transfer.
Even while the file transfer has ground to a halt, Internet access and screen sharing initiated from either computer continues to work fine.
I've tried the usual things like rebooting and repairing permissions but nothing seems to help. Is anyone else experiencing this? Doe anyone have any thoughts on how to correct it?All I can contribute is a "me too". Here's the situation:
I have a Power Macintosh G5 dual 2.7GHz that I use as a server at work. I frequently synchronize files (over AFS File Sharing) over an Ehternet LAN between it and my MacBook Pro. My MacBook Pro has been running Leopard for several months while my PowerMac G5 was running 10.4.11 until this week. Having been happy with Leopard on my MBP, I decided to upgrade my G5. Since then, file transfers between the two computers have been a royal disaster. When I initially connect I can get speeds of up to 1.5 MB/s, but it quickly drops to 30KB/s or less. I can't quite figure out the pattern. It does seem uploading to my G5 is not as affected as downloading from my G5.
Given the fact I didn't see any file transfer issues between the two computers before upgrading the G5 to Leopard (10.5.2), I suspect the issue is with the PowerMac G5 solely or due to the communication between two Leopard computers.
On my G5, I tinkered with the "Advanced" settings in the Network Preference Pane. Since I have read some comments criticizing Apple's automatic flow control for network traffic as implemented in Leopard, what I did was click the "Advanced..." button on the Network PrefPane:
* I then clicked on the "Ethernet" tab
* I switched "Configure" to Manually:
* I switched "Speed" to 100baseTX (my LAN is 100baseT)
* I switched "Duplex" to "full duplex" without "flow-control"
Since this switch, it seems things are much better as I am getting file transfer speeds of 11.0MB/s. I am not sure if this is a complete fix as I have only had it implemented for the last 20 minutes and I have noticed this problem is intermittent, but it seems to be holding. I suspect the problem is with MacOS 10.5.2's attempts to automatically control the flow of network traffic, since all I did was disable that. I'll post later if this doesn't hold up (and if my brain remembers to post). I will follow this thread for a bit as well. -

The only way to fix this, is if you use a manual proxy configuration in Firefox. So all 100 + uni iMac's can only use Safari as I would need to do a profile push to all 300 students and I am unsure what file carries the proxy information.

How to translate/convert read non-mac files
I can't open my bank statement which I download from the internet. It's in 'Money' format.
But since I can 'translate' .xls when working in Appleworks why can't I get a downloaded equivalent version?
What's the best way to convert non-mac files that can't be concerted by maclinkplus (which is installed in my iBook)?

GordonThat's something to take up with your bank. Most bank & some credit card company web sites give you the option of what format you can download your account information in. Unfortunately, most don't give an option of tab-delimited text, just CSV (comma-delimited), & AppleWorks can't open CSV natively. You can, though, open the file in a work processing document & use Find/Replace to Find the comma delimiters, usually "," including the quotes & replace with \t, the "code" for tab. You will need to manually remove the beginning & ending quotes. Then select all & paste into a spreadsheet.
Or you can do what I do for several of mine. I access my account info using Camino or Firefox, not Safari, & select > copy > paste into my spreadsheet. I use Camino or Firefox because the tabs between fields are usually copies as such. Safari doesn't "understand" these tabs & will paste as a lot of spaces & returns. -

When trying to download firefox 3.6.12.dmg to my Mac, OS 10.4, no matter what site I download it from, it will not install. There is always some error message. I'm trying to download it again now, and I know it will be the same thing again and again. Can anyone open a window for me, since the door is constantly being slamed in my face?

I have a Mac Book Pro with 10.6.8 and want to back up my files using a flash drive. It says I did it but when I tried to check on my other Mac - an I Mac with 10.5.8, thedata does not seem to be there. I cant see photos, etc.. It shows the backup as a file and shows various system info. but there are no photos or other files shown.

MikeA PowerPC Mac, if that's what it is, won't be able to see an Intel Mac's formatted data. Also ExFat formatting is not supported by 10.6.3 or earlier. I would try viewing the backup on another Intel Mac with at least 10.6.4. If it isn't there, then the backup never really took place. I much profer a hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.

I combined two user accounts on my MacBook Pro into a new, third, user account. The biggest account in terms of my I Tunes library, past purchases, etc., was preserved. The smaller deleted acount with about 40 I Tunes purchases needed to be "reloaded" into my "machine".
I went through the procress several times, meaning, "go to purchased", items not on this machine, etc, only to receive the same message of not having permission to download.
As well, I can't download new items form the ITuunes store.
Solutions anyone?My computer is the same I've had for a year now. I didn't have a problem until I closed the two user accounts and consolidated into an admin account.
In my ITunes account it says I have "two computers authorized to play content". There's a "delete these authorized computers" function. I'm not hitting that button until I have to.
The help desk says to delete my downloads folder in ITunes and then re-download my previous purchases (I can't find a downloads file to delete) .or reload from Cloud. I don't have cloud on my Mac.

When I compose an email in either gmail or yahoo, the cursor lags behind for about 2 seconds. This does not happen when I compose an email with Safari or Chrome. I am using a Mac with Firefox version 3.6.3. Any idea why this happens?
