OS 10.6.8 and iOS5?

I've got a MacPro (2009) running OS 10.6.8. I haven't upgraded to Lion yet because I have an old scanner that is incompatible. Eventually I'll get a new one, (or not, if I decide I don't need one any more) and move to Lion.
In the meantime, if I upgrade my iPad (original) and my iPhone 4 to iOS5, what can I expect in the way of problems with, for instance, Mail? and iCloud?
Correct my if I'm wrong, please, but I understand that iCloud on the Mac requires Lion. At least, it's not letting me upgrade from MobileMe to iCloud. But if my pad and phone are wanting to connect to iCloud for mail, what happens to the Mail app on my Mac?
Everything I've managed to read about all this seems to assume I've already upgraded to Lion. Am I SOL with iOS5 until I do? Say it ain't so, please.

You need Lion to use iCloud on your computer. iCloud is not available in Snow Leopard.

If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

Album artwork in iTunes 10.5 and IOS5 is not shown properly

Hi guys,
My question concerns iTunes 10.5's artwork. Here's the thing, I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5 on my PC (not MAC…) and IOS5 on my iPhone 4. Everything worked fine in the previous versions of the two (iTunes and IOS4.3.5) but now some of the artwork simply isn't there when it used to be and one more strange thing is that if before the artwork was assigned to ALL the songs of an album, now I get the album artwork in the panoramic view but the it vanishes when I click on a song. Instead, I get the note symbol.
I discovered that you need to assign the artwork to EVERY song in the album which seems to me very troublesome. Furthermore, I think the album artwork is embedded in the file itself which, I think, makes the files a bit heavy on the iPhone causing degradation in performance when viewing the albums in panoramic view. Is it me or the panoramic view is not working as smooth as it did on IOS4?
My questions are threefold:
1. is there a way not to assign the artwork to every file but once to the album itself?
2. is there a way to undo what I already done, meaning un-assign the artwork from all the files and let iTunes build its artwork library again?
3. how come when I rip an original CD, iTunes doesn't find its artwork?

Well all I can say is that after the 10.6 update, I too lost my Get and Subscribe buttons once again. I downloaded and ran the install procedure and used the Repair option within it and that solved the issue. I only had to run it once though.
If you've done this twice without the problem being fixed, I don't know what else to suggest.

Why don't I get the wifi sync option when I plug my iphone 4? (itunes 10.5 and iOS5 up to date)

I have my iphone conected to my IMac and itunes software and Iphone software up to date (10.5 and iOs5) but I don´t get the wifi Sync option on my Iphone summary. Any ideas?

It's not listed as an option. If you are seeing your iPhone in iTunes then thats it. You just click sync. (It works exactly the same way as if it was plugged in)

Iv upgraded to itunes 10.5, and iOS5. but now iphone4 won't sync

hi there guys and gals,
last weekend i updated everything to get the full use of ios5 and icloud
since upgrading, iv been having major issues with syncing my iphone4 with iTunes
both via USB and WiFi
im using a Mac, with lion
itunes 10.5 and iOS5.
it starts the sync off great, and once it gets up to step6 of 6.
waiting for changes to be applied
the sync gets start, and will stay stuck for up 2 hours, before i cancel the sync
and im not joking when i say 2 hours.
wifi sync gets up to 1 hour, before i cancel.
its not even syncing anything over to the device,
its just getting stuck at the same point everytime
and since the upgrade,
the music app on the iphone
is making more then one copy of a album, 3 to 5 different copy's of the same album.
some with the full tracklist, and others with 3 to 4 songs from the same album
this has only happened since the upgrade

it worked at first
but has happened again
and im not keen to restore again

Will iphone 3gs Have all the features of icloud and ios5 that all of the other devices will have. ( i know in ios4 the 2nd gen. ipod touch had to get wallpapers and multitasking cut back) Will this be the same for the 3gs iphone???

IPhone won't sync properly since upgrading to new iTunes and iOS5

Hi,
I'm having great difficulty syncing my iPhone properly since upgrading to the newest software of both.
Ever since upgrading to iOS5 and the newer iTunes (10.5), my phone will start to sync but then get stuck on 'waiting for items to copy' and most of the time doesn't copy across (or back, depending on what it is). Sometimes if I sync a few times it eventually works, but other times, like at the moment, it won't do it properly. For instance, I've bought a song on my phone but now it won't copy across to the computer, and iTunes on the computer thinks I've already downloaded the song so I can't get it off there. It's incredibly frustrating but it used to work so well!
What can I do to make it sync properly? I was hoping a fix would be in iOS5.0.1 but I upgraded to that yesterday and it still does exactly the same things. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Ipad 1 and iOS5 find my iPad no longer working

Since upgrading to iOS5 my iPad 1 can't be found using "Find my iPad" via iCloud.
The find option is switched on in the settings panel, and location services are also on.
There's no problem with finding my location on the map though, so I don't think it has anything to do with the iPad itself, just how it's communicating with the outside world.
Any ideas?

There is no legit way to go back at all.
People complain on these forums about each and every single software version ( no exceptions). Most never have an issue of any sort.
Just as a hospital is full of sick people, this support forum is full of people with issues. That certainly does not mean that most people are sick or that most have issues with software.

IPod Touch and iOS5 = shorter battery life

My iPod Touch battery life is terrible after upgrading to iOS5 ... why, and is there anything I can do to make it better?

IPad2 and iOS5.1 - unable to Sync

Since loading iOS5.1 I can no longer sync
Gets stuck at Step 1 of 6 - "Waiting for sync to start"
Have restored from backup but still same issue.
Have also tried unselecting various sections like Tones, Books, Podcasts etc but still no joy

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

If you are refering to the above then I followed them as well except point 3 and 7
I dont know how firewall works to be honest.

I manage to update from previous iterations of iOS w/o a problem. I dont know why this is happening now. My comp setup hasnt change at all.

IPhone and IOS5.1

I just updated my laptop (and for that matter the iPad2) with IOS5.0. My iPhone3G has not been updated since last year when I changed my laptop for fear of losing my precious Contacts. I would like to update my iPhone 3's.ver 4.3.5 to IOS5.0. Trouble is my iPad is synching contacts from Microsoft Outlook (very old and outdated) and I cannot afford to lose my IPhone's updated contacts when I update to IOS5.0 using my laptop.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?
Is the device jailbroken?

Sounds like I have a similar problem. I just updated iPad, and iPhone to iOS5. I synced these devices with my iMac on iCloud. Calendars and contacts synced just fine. However for some strange reason I can no longer sync any music on my 32 GB iPhone. iTunes is telling me that I am beyond the phone's capacity with an "Other" item that is nearly as large as my music collection. Am I missing something here? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

As far as backing up your Mac, yes it is. Time Capsule serves no purpose as far as backup for the iPhone though. It will give the iPhone a wireless signal though, using dual band technology. iPhone backups must be done through iTunes or iCloud.
