OS 10.8.2/10.8.3 update received in duplicate on two Macs
Last summer; if bought the upgrade to OS 10.8 through the App Store for my older Macs. Last fall I bought the new Mac Mini and the new MacBook Air, both loaded with Mountain Lion. With the Mac Mini, which had 10.8.2 on it, the App Store kept offering an update to 10.8.2. This did not happen with the MacBook Air bought at the same time. Both machines were transferred from older models by Migration Assistant.
I just got a new MacBook Pro 15" Retina and once I turned it on, there were updates to be done, including to 10.8.3. I did all this, but the App Store is still proposing the update to 10.8.3. This model, I did not use Migration Assistant, but did only fresh installs. And, the same thing is happening with the Mac Mini. I got two updates to 10.8.3, and when I installed one, the other keeps coming up.
None of this is happening with my MacBook Air, nor with any of the older Macs. This is only happening with the end 2012 Mac Mini and the recent 2013 MacBook Pro 15" Retina. This sounds like a bug in the update software, or in the App Store. Has anybody seen this? Has anybody got a solution? I have verified and repaired permissions, which was the only solution proposed by a Genius at an Apple Store.
Try resetting the App Store.
- Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
- Quit the App Store
- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
- It will take you to a folder. Delete com.apple.appstore
- Launch the App Store and sign in.

Just updated to IOS 7 and two issues:
First when I connect my iPhone to my computer I get this error message:itunes was unable to provider data from sync services". I'm not sure what this really means...
The second issue is when I try to select "Manually Manage Music"
The iPhone "My iPhone" is synced with another iTunes libary on "MY-PC". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
So... I don't want to do that, but I do what to be able to Manage my music. I'm not sure what it means by being synced to another iTunes unless it means to an older version of itunes?
Anyone have any ideas?I cannot address the sync services error right now, but the error that you receive when you change from sync to manually manage music is what happens when you change. Once you change to manually manage music, it erases all of the music and will only put the music that you want on the phone, content that you manually drag over to it. See if this support document helps you out. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess
In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
thx for any input -
When I installed the recent updates for Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, my iCal calendar was wiped out, as was the calendar on my iPhone. I'd rather use iCal than Office and was attempting to phase Office out altogether. Now, all of my information is on the Office calendar but not iCal. The iCloud version of my iCal calendar is not up to date. In any event, I couldn't figure out how to send that info to the iCal on my mac or my phone. How can I sync my Office calendar info to iCal? If that's not possible, how can I get my Office calendar to sync with my iPhone? All of my sync services are set up in iTunes and on my phone. This happened to me once before and I spent hours on the phone with Apple and on the web trying to work it out. I NEED MY CALENDAR!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!
As that's not an Apple product, you may get more help by using Microsoft's Office for Mac forums:
Office for Mac forums
The other concern I have is that Office 2011 requires an Intel-based Mac and you posted in the older iMac (pre-Intel or "PPC") forums. If you have an Intel-based iMac (Apple menu > About this Mac..." will say "Intel" if you do) then I think you'll get faster and more accurate ansers to other questiosn in the Apple forums for newer iMacs here:

I have an older mac and it wants me to update to itunes 10 but my mac is too old and I cant figure out how to disable the update so I can use the store.
If Software Update is offering the update then it would be compatible with your model. Unfortunately, you haven't provided us with any information on your hardware that would enable us to determine if it really is too old.
If you really wish to disable the update alert then the next time Software Update opens, select the update in the list then select "Ignore update" from SU's Update menu. -

Updated iMovie on my brand new mac mini and lost "SPEED" function.
Updated iMovie on my brand new Mac Mini and lost "SPEED" function.
Hello bbryson68, I'm sure you've just over-looked it.
The answer is to click on Adjust above the Clip in Viewer, this will bring into view a adjustments bar also above the Clip.
Now you just have to select the speed via the Turtle icon. Once the clip has been speed-up or down, you'll get a Slider
over the clip in question & a Rabbit icon indicating the clip has been speed-up.
If you want to keep audio undistorted check the Preserve Pitch checkbox above the viewer.
The Clip Slider & icon of Rabbit appear in the Clip-Trimer window below the main Clip, also check your Pref's to see if you have
Apply Slow Motion checked? This will slow or speed up all other clips to the first clip. -

- You can redownload yur apps at no additional cost. See:
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store
- You only get one download of music and it is up to you to make a backup. However, sometimes if you explain what happens the iTunes store may allow a redownload of music. You can contact them by starting here and selecting the appropriate topic:

My husband and I did the most recent update. Now when we send messages to each other we also receive a duplicate of the message to ourself, what did we do wrong?
Check to see if you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage. If you are, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. (You can continue to share the same ID for other services such as iTunes.)

How do I know if the Maverick software update has been installed on my mac?
How do I know if the Maverick software update has been installed on my mac?
It will not download if you already have it.
Just to be 100% clear …
Look in /Applications for "Install OS X Mavericks"
Use the Finders Go menu > Applications. To open it.
You may have an Applications folder in your Home directory too, it shouldn't be in there but it is possible.
Also try Spotlight to see if it can find that filename.
Can you also tell us what system you have?
Apple menu > About this Mac > more info button… What is the Model (under the Overview tab).
10.9 doesn't install on all systems, so it could explain why you can't get it, however it usually displays a dialog stating that fact. -
trying to update to 4.0 on my Mac. When trying to drag new icon to applications folder, it says 4.o already in place (it isn't), and do I want to replace with older version. I do this and then it says change can't be done because Firefox is in use. ??
That version cannot be upgraded further if it's a 2G model. The 3G model can be upgraded to iOS 5.x.x. You can't have a 2G model because the maximum iOS version is 4.2.1.
