Desktop image keeps changing randomly even though this option is not checked. Any ideas how to stop this glich?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try deleting the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and tyep ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart. Finally, see if your desktop changes

  • My desktop image keeps reverting to "stretch to fill screen."

My desktop image keeps reverting to "stretch to fill screen."  I keep changing it to "fill screen" but next time I power up, it's back to "stretch to fill".  How can I get my Macbook Pro to save the settings with Mavericks?  I never had this issue before.

By default, Library folders are hidden in user accounts.  To show them, open Terminal and past in the following:
    sudo chflags nohidden /Library/ ~/Library/
Enter your password when prompted.  Then you can navigate to the folder above and delete the suggested files.  This worked for me.  It was driving me crazy that the desktop kept reverting to the Mavericks wave, as spiffy as it is.

  • Desktop Image Arbitrarily Changes Upon Reboot From Aurora to Water

I leave my MacMini on 24/7 and tend to restart only after installing updates or new apps. This past week I must have restarted about 3 times and each time the desktop background image has changed to 'Water' even though it was previously set to 'Aurora'. I change it back and then it's fine, until the next restart.
I'm at a loss as to what may be causing this. However, I tend to use Back to my Mac a lot (to control my mini desktop through screen sharing on my MBP) and it seems a strange coincidence that my Mini's desktop defaults to the Water background, which just so happens to be the desktop image on my MBP. Weird huh?
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Alas, this didn't work. I made a copy of the com.apple.desktop.plist and saved a copy onto my desktop. I logged off then back on and Aurora was still there. Great. However, when I restarted my mini it changed to water upon.
    Anyother ideas - thanks.

  • My desktop picture keeps changing after each log-out or shut down.  How do I fix this?

I have a new MacPro, and I would like to stop my desktop photo from changing every time I shut down, or lock my computer.  It's truly annoying.

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these three files.
    com.apple.screensaver.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Dragging images from Safari to Desktop, image goes to random location

    Hi Everyone,
Problem is being experienced on a Retina MBP, in a laptop-screen + 2 more setup: one through Thunderbolt to DVI, and the other using HDMI to DVI.
It's pretty easy to reproduce.  I open Safari up, not fullscreen, and drag an image that's in the browser (e.g., a picture in a Google images search), onto a specific space on the desktop.  When I let go, it saves, but the icon for that image on the desktop is anywhere _but_ where I dropped it.  It seems purely random, I can't establish a pattern.
From hereon it it's probably venting, so I'll spare you guys!
My desktop view options are set to "Sort By: None".
    Screen 1: 15" Retina MBP
    Screen 2: Dell LCD 1680x1050
    Screen 3: Dell LCD 1680x1050
I don't experience this when not in multi-monitor mode.  Using any of the external monitors, be it one or two, seems to be a part of the problem.  Could this be a bug to do with Safari, retina, and external displays?
    Thanks.
    Alex

Control click a clear space on your desktop then click Sort by > None

  • I am unable to change my desktop image

In System Prefs, selected Desktop & Screensaver. Selected image from pane at right. Used to be the desktop image would change as soon as I clicked on it. Now, nothing happens. Same results when I select an Apple image vs my own jpeg. Checked Help, and I am following the instructions. Thanks for any help offered!

Your System Preferences preference file has become corrupted and unable to save your changes.
Use the Finder Go To Folder and type
    /Library/Preferences
    and click GO.
A window will pop up and scroll down until you find the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
drag it to the trash (note there may be two of them, one is locked original, delete the other one you can move)
Now reboot the computer and launch System Preferences, you will now be able to save your changes.

After first switch on of the new year.... my desktop image had changed and when I went into the desktop image folder it was empty.... all of my iPhoto images
are still ok... just the desktop images that appear to be missing???
Not the end of the world but curious to know why this has pahhened and if anything else will have changed that I don't know about???

To see your user folder in the Finder sidebar open a Finder window. From the menu choose Finder > Preferences to open the Finder Preferences window. Under Favorites check your name (the user name you choose for yourself). Your username will show up in the Finder sidebar. You can also check Pictures to see to hopefully show the link to your iPhoto Library.
By default your iPhoto Library will be in your Pictures Folder unless you moved it.
This short video on YouTube explains it well: Display Missing Finder Sidebar / Icons - Mac OS X Mavericks - YouTube
If you still need help I would do to the Apple Support Communities at Welcome | Apple Support Communities since the Finder and iPhoto are both both Apple products.

  • Why does my speaker output balance keep changing?

    Hi,
I've noticed that every now and again, the output balance for the speakers on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, retina display, early 2013) keeps changing randomly and shifting to the left channel.
This is really frustrating since never change it manually, and often use my Mac to listen to music/watch films etc. Obviously it's not a big issue to change (done easily through System Preferences) but it would be good to know why it keeps changing in the first place!

    try this.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063   http://support.apple.com/da-dk/HT3964

  • Device for sound output changing randomly

After the latest OS update, I've been having issues with my sound output settings. My sound will play most the time through the "line out" setting, but then randomly the "sound effects" will play thru the internal speakers. I keep changing the setting in the "sound" panel of system prefs but it keeps changing randomly on me. I've saved the setting and rebooted and thought it would be fine, but it keeps doing it. Once my Sound Output setting were changed too, and my music just started playing thru the internal speaker.
Anyone know what's up with this, and what could correct the problem?

It may sound silly, but from my own experience (having had exactly the same problem while working on a soundtrack) after snooping around I found that the plug/cable I was using (a cheapo cable) was somehow the guilty party.
It fit snugly, no wobble, no crackling, changed the cable and all problems went away.
Same cable works 100% now used to hook up the iPhone to the mixer.
Seems to make no sense, and yet... voodoo (or a badly soldered plug).

  • OSX Mountain Lion - Cannot change desktop image

I used an image I'd downloaded as desktop wallpaper. I have tried to change it to the default image, other images, sold colours, but the same image always returns after I reboot (warm and cold boots). Note that I can change the desktop image, but it always reverts back to the old image. The changes do not stick. I cannot locate the image in Finder. Any ideas?

I have the same situation as Marc; however, I do not have access to images. The multicolor circle keeps turning.
This application (Desktop & Screen Saver) is not working anymore.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot change desktop image/wallpaper

Forgive me if this is solved elsewhere. The desktop image cannot be changed from the one that came with the unit. I could select another image briefly(my own and stock mac) for a while but recently, when I try to change it,it just flashes the new one briefly and stays the same. Might this have something to do with my kvm? All other display functions work fine. Although, another issue I have is that, occasionaly the mac will forget resolution when switching back and will have to detect what it is supposed to be. That I'm sure is a KVM issue. The first,I'm not so sure. By the way,the PC has no issue at all. With the KVM anyway.

  • I have a 13" macbook from 2009 and for some reason can no longer change my desktop image by just clicking on an image in system prererences I-Photo. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I have a 13" macbook from 2009 and for some reason can no longer change my desktop image by just clicking on an image in system prererences>I-Photo. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Your Desktop Picture settings and Dock items are stored in the files
    /Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and
    /Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
in the "Preferences" folder in your user library. This looks like the system has trouble to write to these files. Check the permissions on your user library and remove the above files from your user library, then log off and on again.
Your user library is hidden in Lion and Mt. Lion. To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Select "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar and hold down the alt/option key, until you see the "Library"  in the drop-down menu. Double click it to open a Finder window, so you can browse the files inside.

    This is the website.

IF you know the exact file name of the download, you can search for it in the spotlight.
(This icon) in the upper right corner.
If you don't know the exact file name, you may have to redownload it so you can see it.
I would also try doing a reboot after you change your desktop background to what you want.

  • Cannot change desktop image

Yeah. I changed it before by going under the apple (top, left), clicking system prefs, and then going clicking 'desktop images and screen saver.' But now I can't change my desktop image because when I attempt that process of clicking the apple and clicking system prefs and then clicking-what should be there but isn't-the desktop and screen savor icon, which is plaining missing. Its on my girlfriend's mac. I don't know what went wrong.
Anyone know what happened to that sweet, sweet icon? I'll really appreciate anyone, who could help fix the problem for me. Thanks!

Use Pacifist to extract a new copy of the DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane from your Mac OS X 10.3 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.
