OS 10.8 MacBook crashes, restarts after unplug, sleep, then wake
Have a new MBP, just upgraded to 10.8. Now, every time I unplug my machine, close the lid, then open it later, I get the white screen of death and the laptop restarts. Any ideas? Here's the error report afterward:

My daughter's Macbook exhibited the same problem after upgrade to Mt. Lion. The setting for the power management (pmset) hibernate was incorrect. It was set to 5 when it should be either 0, 3, or 25. We set her's to 3 (default for Macbook) and it has been working fine ever since. As always YMMV.

MacBook Pro restarting after unplugging a wired Xbox 360 Controller
Everytime I unplug or connect the wired controller to a virtual machine, my mid 2012 Macbook Pro crashes and restarts. I have no idea what could be causing this. Has anybody experienced this before?
I've found a solution to this problem, (although rather unfavorable) I simply removed all traces of 360 controller plugin that I downloaded from http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver. I can no longer play games with it, but unplugging the controller no longer crashers my computer. If anyone has a solution to this issue, please reply to this post.

Why won't my 2011 MacBook Pro restart after Yosemite installation?
Why won't my 2011 MacBook Pro restart after Yosemite installation?
What symptoms are you seeing?
At what point does it get stuck?
Is it failing to Restart, or failing once it restart?
what exactly is on the screen, if anything?
Do you get the chime? the gray Apple? The spinner? black screen? gray screen? prohibitory sign? -
Macbook Randomly Restarting After Yosemite install
Hi, i have 2011 MacBook Pro (13 Inch), which keeps shutting down and restarting. I've attatched the full error report. Can anybody shed any light on what the problem could be ?
I have updated to Yosemite. The only big change that I made so far was to do the following in order to get my M-AUDIO firewire audio interface to work after the upgrade to Yosemite:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
Not sure if its related.

Thunderbolt Bus: MacBook Pro, Apple Inc., 22.1I believe this is the same problem I have been having since the beta. I submitted reports, but I was never able to find a solution. I have been able to replicate the issue. Mine seems to crash/restart when I am running safari with a lot of tabs. I have seen some suggestions that it is a crash related to the way Safari is processing graphics.
I would love to find a resolution as well. -
Dropping perfomance after hours of usage, like new when sleep then wake up
Hello, I'm not sure where to get replies so I'll just post here.
After a few hours of usage, the notebook seems slower. After I put it in sleep mode then wake it up immidiately after, this phenomenon seems to stop.
Also, the notebook is frozen when I plug in the power cord, also after few hours of usage.
I tried update Bios, graphic drivers and Windows, nothing works. I'm using the Hp Envy m6 n010dx
I need your help.
Thank you.Hello tungdao,
I see that you're having an issue with how the notebook preforms afters its been "active/awake" for a period of time. I will try to help you with this.
I'd recommend starting with this document: Improving System Performance without Adding Memory (Windows 8).
If you need further assistance, please provide the model and product numbers for the notebook. Also, the currently installed operating system.
Please let me know how this goes for you.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built-in utilities to repair the disk using OS X Recovery -
My MacBook Pro restarts after it's been idle for an hour
I'm new to daily Mac use, but I think I have my settings correct. My laptop is kept plugged in at work - never runs on battery. In my Energy Saver system prefs, I have Computer Sleep and Display Sleep set to Never on both Power Adapter and Battery, all options (hard disk sleep, wake for network access, reduce brightness, start up after power failure) are unchecked. There is nothing set up in the Schedule area to turn on or off at specific times.
Every time the computer is idle for more than an hour (when I'm at lunch or in a meeting), when I come back the computer has restarted itself. Not gone to sleep, or shut down, but completely restarted.
Is there some other setting I'm missing that's making this happen? Although I try to remember to save all my work before I leave just in case, every so often I forget, and I'm getting sick of losing work (or even just losing system state and having to restart all my programs, reopen all my files, etc.)
Someone on the apple.stackexchange forum suggested checking my console log, but when I posted the results I didn't get any comments except that maybe it had overheated. But it never restarts randomly, which I would think would happen if it had overheated. It's always tied to the idle time.
Here's the console log for the most recent event; can anyone tell me what's going on?

Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution. -
Macbook keeps restarting after ram and mountain lion upgrade
I installed an 8gb ram from OWC to my macbook (late 2008 aluminum body model) and upgraded to mountain lion after having leopard for years. I decided to erase the hard disk completely and upgrade to snow leopard and then download the mountain lion software. I had installed the new 8Gb ram on leopard before any of the two upgrades. Ever since I had the upgrade the computer restarts randomly and takes me to a grey screen saying than an error ocurred. It mostly happens when watching netflix or any other type of streaming video. I tried using chrome and firefox and it only helped for a little bit. I had to take my macbook to my local apple store to get it checked and apparently the ram was not positioned correctly. After they "positioned correctly" the computer worked fine. But now a few hours later I'm back at my apartment and the computer keeps restarting. Please help me with the issue.

Macbook Pro restart after waking from sleep
Hi all,
Since I've installed Mountain Lion (10.8.2) on my 13" Late 2011 Macbook Pro I've been experiencing a quite annoying problem. The computer, which is connected to an external monitor through Thunderbolt to HDMI will restart (Sometimes to a gray screen with a progress bar) after waking from sleep. I've done some research and it would appear as though the problem is related to the display driver.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this peculiar problem or if there's a quick solution.
Thanks!Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

MacBook Shuts Down After Unplugging Powercord Although Battery is Installed
Hi,
Whenever I disconnect the power cord of my MacBook, the OS shuts down within 2-5 seconds. The battery is installed and it has a 80% health and it has 185 charge cycles. I've been experiencing this strange behavior after two days of installing (Secrets Preference Pane). But I'm not sure if it was behind the problem. I even uninstalled Secrets preference pane but the problem still exist.
At first I though the battery is dead, but for some reason I tried running the laptop later on the battery power and it ran for whole 2+ hours until it was fully discharged. I then charged the battery fully and used it again and it was working like a charm. But later the problem returned and the MacBook shuts down whenever it is not connected to the power cord. If the battery was dead, then how come it runs without a problem sometimes? also the health indicator shows that the battery is 80% healthy and the charging cycles is not much and whenever the system shuts down, the indicator on the bottom of the battery shows that it is fully charged.
I don't know what is causing the problem, and why sometimes the problem arises and sometimes it goes away.
I am using a 2007 white MacBook with the original battery (provided with the laptop). I am running Mac OS 10.6.2.
I tried several solutions such as:
- Cleaning the battery and MacBook ports.
- Resetting the PRAM.
- Fully discharging the battery and then fully charging it.
But it seems that I am not able to resolve the problem. I would appreciate any provided help.
Thanks,
shaknon
Note: Here are two pictures that shows stats about the battery:
1- http://jump.fm/SAOBW
2- http://jump.fm/JBHYII am having identical issues as you described - although I haven't installed secrets preference pane (so I doubt that's involved).
My problem went on for hours one night, I got sick of dealing with it and went to sleep with AC adapter unplugged and macbook off. The next day, it worked fine all day long. Now here I am in the evening - had a power cut, AC adapter went off obviously, and MacBook powered off. Again now I have this problem.
I tried everything you've talked about (PRAM reset) as well as SMC reset, no change. My battery stats look great, says battery is healthy. This started happening to me a few days ago, I upgraded to 10.6 a few weeks ago.. not sure what caused this to start happening.
I found one VERY interesting thing, maybe you can check this: when I have the problem, with AC adapter unhooked, when I try to power up my MacBook it comes up for 2-5 seconds (sometimes until the apple tone, sometimes not), and turns off. If I HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for 5+ seconds the MacBook remains on, the white light on the front flashes, and I get a long tone. This procedure is supposed to be used for firmware updates or something. Anyway, when I do this, the computer comes up perfectly and it uses the battery. When I hook an AC adapter up, that works, but as soon as I unplug it I am back to the same problem. You should try this and see if it works for you, it may be a clue. If nothing else, it's a good way to still use your laptop if you are on the go and can't be dead in the water
My wife has a MacBook slightly newer than mine, I'm going to try her battery when possible to see if that solves the problem. I hesitate to go to the genius bar as they are terrible where I live and it's always been a waste of time
(Also, the battery update fails for me as well). -

Why will MacBook not restart after latest update installed
I have just installed latest osx update on my macbook and now it will not restart. My screen opens with the Apple motif and the spinning wheel but it does not progress, merely keeps spinning. What can I do? Help would be appreciated
The following support article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running Lion) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.

I have a 'panic Kernel' error screen appear after my MacBook Pro restarted after installing updates
Hi,
I have just finished installing new updates, and in order to complete, I had to restart my laptop, as I did so, an error screen came up with all types of jargon on it, mainly, 'panic' and 'kernel', I can not do anything with my mac now, any ideas on how to resolve? If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -
Did work fine before upgrading.
Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.
Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
Step 3
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, if any. Be sure to disconnect all USB hubs. If you use a keyboard or mouse plugged into a hub, plug the devices directly into a built-in USB port and remove the hub. Test.
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator for this step.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for Diagnostic and Usage Messages. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.) Select the last few messages that appear, if any, and copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). -
Why does my Macbook Pro destabilize after hibernation sleep?
Over the last several months using Mountain Lion, I decided to completely drain my battery to reset it. I think it then goes into what is called hibernation or emergency sleep mode. I am usually unable to wake it from sleep prompting a forced resstart.
to restart, I connect the adapter and the light goes green quickly changing to amber as expected. After the restart, however, some top menu items are missing such as the wi-fi icon and the Lock Keychain icon. All third party icons display correctkly. The space is there but blank and I can access the pulldown menu by clicking in those blank areas.. When double clicking the HD icon in the Finder, no icons show on the left side any more. A restart does not fix the problem. The system then eventually destabilizes to the point that I have to restore from my Firewire external HD clone using SuperDuper. One time I did a full restore (that takes forever even with a very fast wi-fi set up) to fix the problem.
I am usually in Safari or playing a Game such as a third party card game application to pass the time until the battery completely drains. I also have Filevault enabled.
Why is the MacBook Pro battery reset causing this OS instability? How can I reset the battery without encountering these sleep issues?Thank you Dale.
This article mentions that recalibration should be done every two months. I think I waited 4-6 months before doing a recalibration on purpose. Though I probably ran out the battery power before then recharging overnight (some commenters on Apple Discussions said to wait 5 hours before recharging!).
I think that my battery goes into a forced shutdown rather than true sleep. Your linked thread states that this often causes directory damage. But I ran DiskWarrior and Disk Utility immediately after the stated problems occurred. And these programs pretty much repair any directory damage. But they failed to correct the problems I listed in my original post.
So I question the conclusion that not calibrating every two months caused irreparable directory damage that even DiskWarrior or Disk Utility cannot repair. The damage appears more extensive than this in my opinion.
The battery is only a year old with 92.35% of its original current capacity and 537 cycles. The current charge is over 6350 at 99.47%. It will eventually go to 100%. I can run over 4 hours of normal usage on a single battery charge.
Side note -- to my knowledge, nothing in the original MacBook Pro manual suggests that the battery requires regular recalibration of any kind to maintain the integrity of the battery. Much less every two months. If this is a requirement or even highly recommended, then Apple has done a good job hiding this information. And the available recalibration information varies from one type of battery to the next and is often inconsistent.
Apple's comments in the past support the idea that recalibration improves efficiency and fixes some battery issues as they occur, but that it is not manditory to maintain the health of the battery.
Do you have an official battery recalibration source (preferably Apple) that indicates regular battery recalibration is crucial and exactly how this must be done for MacBooks with builtin batteries?
