OS 10.9.5 System Error -70015 DVD Player encountered a system error

Can anyone tell me what this means?

UPDATE: APPLE DVD PLAYER ERROR
If I move the scroll forward or backward to a certain spot, the movie always goes back to the beginning but the time indicator remains moving forward.
So, (lets say) in an 1h 20 mins movie, if you scroll too many times, (no matter forward or backward) you may end up having 2h 10 mins elapsed time, when in reality you are actually at just the beginning of a movie!
During this phase, I can't stop, or go to title menu. A message pops up saying: No Permitted. The funny thing is, I have 8 .dvdmedia files, and only 3 of them that actually show this weird behavior.
DVD discs are all ok.

I burned video with iDVD and when I try to play the dvd I get a message which states, "DVD player encountered a system error, error: -36". One DVD disk will not play at all and keeps trying to load. Another DVD disk will load, but will say that there is a system error. Anyone know about this problem?

Type -36 error (I/O Errors (bummers)
This file is having difficulty while either reading from the drive or writing to the drive. The file
may have been improperly written data to the drive or the hard drive or disk may be damaged.
This is almost always indicative of a media error (hard error on the disk). Sometimes (rarely) it is transient.
Solutions: Try copying the file to another drive. Use a disk recovery software, such as Disk First Aid to examine the disk. You can try rebooting with all extensions off. Once in a while this will allow you to read the data. The file in question should be restored from a backup that was stored on a different disk. Regular backups can reduce the time to recover from this error.
My first guess is that you used poor quality DVD media. Maxell and Verbatim are good.

How can I eject a dvd that will not play and says "supported dish not available, also DVD player encountered a system error -69902

I am unable to eject a DVD. When I try the screen says "Supported dish not available." Before that a DVD stopped playing and the screen said 'DVD player encountere a system error -69902. How can I get the DVD out?

I am trying to play DVDs and keep getting the same error ever time DVD Player encountered error 69889...
Can anyone tell how to stop this error, so that I can watch DVD.
Please not that these are new DVDs and not copies or burned.

DVD player encountered a system error - the viewer could not be moved to the selected screen

Hi, I am getting this error when I am trying to play .dvdmedia content with the DVD player and Airplay mirroring on an Apple TV 3rd generation. The screen remains gray, the sound is still on. I am running the latest OS X 10.9, and the firmware of the Apple TV is up to date, too. Any ideas? Thx Dom

I have the same configuration as dog.toy.tough, and encountered the same problem trying to use DVD player & Airplay.
I then tried viewing the same DVD with "MPlayerX" and it worked flawlessly! I don't really understand what Rudegar is saying about encryption, and it would be great to be able to use the native apple DVD player some day ... but in the meantime I will continue to use MPlayerX. It's free and you can download it from the App Store.

DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from

When I try to play a disk that has been burned on a VCR/DVD combo machine, I very often get an error message that says:
"DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from
There was an error reading from disc. It might be scratched or dirty. [-36]"
and then it quits. Sometimes I have been able to play a disc, after several tries, as it errors later and later, but also sometimes not.

I am getting the following error in SharePoint 2007 site.

There is no event logged related to this error. I have checked ULS log and nothing much I can find over there.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

DVD Studio burn works on computer, error on DVD Player. iDVD works fine.

I'm a new DVD Studio user. I've spent a few days researching this problem but am running out of answers. I've had no problems using iDVD. I haven't got a successful burn from DVD Studio as of yet. I've used +R and -R and a few different brands of each to make sure that's not the problem.
I've created the movie in FC Pro 5 and exported the movie as a Quicktime Movie. Imported into DVD Studio. Created a menu. Simulator works fine. Pressed Burn. After burn the DVD Player pops up and plays the movie fine. Put it into DVD player and receive an error message.
Bitrate looks to be set at 4.0Mbps - 7.0Mbps, One Pass VBR.
Any advise would be great.

You know what is strange I know a few people who have DVD Players that play thingss from iDVD perfectly, but seem to choke out on DVD SP projects. Actually tried it myself to see (in other words, proper compression etc.), the DVD SP discs fail (though they will play on other machines fine) but the iDVD discs work. And you would htink since iDVD uses PCM audio they would have more issues

I've also the same issue and also MO: Operating Unit profile option is not set at site level. But I want to ask you that we have more than 1 OUs b/c of multi-org. So which 1 should be selected for this profile option to get rid of this error message.

New Mac Mini won't open DVD Player, I get an error

This is a brand new mac mini (latest model bought two days ago), just opened and tried to open DVD player without any media on the DVD drive and the DVD Player doesn't open and I get this error:
There was an initialization error.
A valid video device could not be found for playback (-70017)
What could that be?

No. The DVD Player always open even if there is no media in the drive.
The problem was the Region. I needed to set the region on the drive, but the error message never told what was the problem, I had to figure it out myself.

QS 933, Leopard DVD Player, "no suitable hardware error"--???

As a trial,I put Leopard 10.5.3 on a 60GB HD
to put intomy media Center to see how it would perform.
(My media Center also has a ATI Radeon Pro PCI 9200 card,
and the stock Radeon 7000 AGP card installed).
When I launch DVD Player on the drive, it gives me the
"No Suitable hardware found"error,and I can only close the program.
I know I don't have a DVD Drive installed,but shouldn't
DVD Player work even without one?
I'm trying to see if it can, as VLC has issues ( stuttering playback) with
playing back Video_TS folders on my QS.

Same problem with you. Now that I have a DVD to play neither FrontRow nor iDVD.
My opinion as a retired computer scientist is that apple has shipped defective software. The mouse doesn't work in Frontrow. The arrow keys will allow me to navigate but will not bring up the last item, DVD type, when i hit enter or return.I thought iDVD was a player but I'm dealing with copyrighted material and i do not want to rip off the author, an MD Ph.d pioneer in many fields.

Okay. It seems unlikely to be the class of similar problems caused by various Symantec programs blocking installs.
It's a bit of a mystery in the first place why the 16 bit DOS subsystem is running in this context. (The iTunes installer is 32-bit on XP machines.)
Just in case it's a damaged NTVDM, perhaps try an sfc /scannow:
