OS 4.5 Upgrade for 8703e CDMA Users in the Cards? Possibly? Hopefully?

Does anyone know where I can download the latest OS 4.5 device software for my 8703e (CDMA) device from -ANY- carrier?
I'm seeing all of these announcements of CDMA builds for OS 4.5 spanning all of the 8100s, 8300s, and even the 8700
device, but absolutely -nothing- about the 8703e CDMA device. Does RIM have any plans to support this device on OS 4.5?
Any information is greatly appreciated -- even if the answer is 'tough luck it won't be supported for this device'.
That's more information I can get from my carrier about it, anyway. :^)

Time to upgrade: Long time Apple user, get the Iphone 4 or Droid 3???

It's time to upgrade to a new phone for both me and the wife, she needs a new phone now as her LG env3 is acting up. I'm a looong time Apple user, and of course the Apple iphone is a natural to pick, however It'll cost $350 for 2 when we use the last $50 credit for new/every 2. The new Droid 3 looks very interesting and we can get 2 for $149 for both with the credit and the BOGO sale going on.
So which should we get, mainly use the phone for talk, texting and will of course check emails, etc once we get a smart phone. The Env3's we have now are good at texting with the keyboard and of course good for talking.
If we go for the Apple, I could get her the iphone 4 for her and I can wait for the iphone 5 if it's actually coming out this year.

I currently have a Droid Global 2 and while I enjoy the expanded features of a smartphone, I miss my Env2 terribly for one main reason : The keyboard was the best!. The Droid Global 2's slide-out keyboard lacks dedicated number keys and is a bit cramped compared to the Env, but much faster/accurate than an iPhone.
I will be upgrading to the DROID 3 as it now has dedicated number keys and a larger screen.
While I really wanted an iPhone, the lack of a physical keyboard was the dealbreaker. I test drove a friends phone and made so many errors in email, texting, dialing #s that I knew it wasn't going to be acceptable for me. It took forever to do basic texting...and I have very small hands/fingers! Can't imagine how big 'man hands' would handle the iPhone.
If keyboard accuracy/'speed is not a big deal the and iPhone will work for you. The iPhone is much lighter as it doesn't have a physical keyboard....some people just have to have Apple regardless.

Saving to SharePoint works only half the time for Windows 7 Users--all the time for Windows XP users

We have a SharePoint 2010 Environment with hardware load balancing, 2 WFEs, 2 Apps Servers and 1 SQL Server. This was built in October 2013. Office Integration and Saving back to SharePoint works all of the time for users on XP. It works sporadically for
users on Windows 7. When Windows 7 users do the following:
Opening an Office Document from computer and saving it to SharePoint
Within a Document Library, using Save As from an opened document
When selecting in a Document Library from the Document Tab> “New” and then the desired content type
Send> Save to SharePoint from within Office Document
They may either be brought to the SharePoint library (correct) or to My Documents (incorrect).
In the case of number 1 (Opening an Office Document from computer and saving it to SharePoint)--using Save and Send will sometimes open the SharePoint library and sometimes open My Documents.
Our URL is https://CompanyName.domainname.com/Sites/SiteCollectionName
The intermediary "Sites" is actually a blank path.
When My Documents is opened I've noted with Fiddler (a web debugger) that we get a 404 on sites:
Could this be the issue?

Some things to double check:
Ensure that you have sticky sessions enabled on your load balancer
Check that your WebDav calls are making it to the server
Ensure that you have a root site collection in all your web apps
Just out of curiosity, what is the http request look like for the 404 error?

Possible to delete Offline Files content for a specific user from the Client Side Cache (CSC) ?.

Hello Everyone,
We would like to implement a script to delete the offline files in the Client Side Cache (CSC) for a nominated user (on Windows 7 x64 enterprise).
I am aware that;
1. We can use a registry value to flush the entire CNC cache (for all users) next time the machine reboots.
2. If we delete the user's local profile it appears that Windows 7 also removes their content from the local CSC.
However, we would like to just delete the CSC content for a particular nominated user without having to delete their local user profile.
In our environment we have many users that share workstations but only use them occasionally. We don't use roaming profile so we would like to retain all the users' local profiles but still delete the CSC content for any users that haven't
logged on in a week.
Any ideas or info would be appreciated !

Blocking messages for over quota users from the frontend

Dear All,
Is there a way to bounce back messages from the frontend for users who are currently over quota instead of accepting the message, then routing it to the storage mailhost and then bouncing it from there? We have multiple storage mail hosts and multilpe inbound & outbound servers. All servers are running iMS 5.2 with latest patches. Due to the fact that most of the received messages are spam sent using fake addresses, bounce back messages queue up on the outboud mail servers until they expire.

Is it a good idea to cron recontruct -q?This shouldn't be necessary. If your quota database keeps getting 'out-of-sync' then this would need to be investigated.

Is there a way to have an AppleID for an end-user without credit card info attached to it?

I am in charge of managing the Macs in our department. We have purchased a volume license for Mountain Lion (can't jump to Mavericks yet until we upgrade other software). I have a code to redeem, but the end-user is supposed to have an AppleID. I went ahead and started creating one for her, but it asks for credit card information, and corporate does not wish to have this information attached to an end-user's ID - they just want to supply it at the time of purchase for any future purchases (fear of identity theft and/or unauthorized purchases, I guess).
Our Mountain Lion software is already purchased, so Apple shouldn't need the credit card info for us to be able to install it. I can't install Adobe's Creative Cloud software until she's at least up to Mountain Lion … I feel I am hitting a major roadblock here! Any suggestions? Is this a new requirement? My own AppleID (for work) that I've had for awhile has no credit card currently attached to it … must not have been required at the time.

Having the same itunes library for two different users on the same computer

ok guys i've looked at the previous topics and replies to this subject. None of these seem to work for me with itunes 7. When I go to itunes and edit-preferences-advanced-change, the only folders that are recognized is all of my personal folders and none of my shared folders with my other user. Please tell me how to do this! i need step by step instructions please--I am new to itunes

i seen that link on another discussion. I have tried it and that does not work. I transferred the itunes music folder (not the others per the directions) to my shared folder. When I go to preferences-change, my shared folder isn't one of the folders to pick from. When i moved the itunes music folder to the shared folder--another empty itunes music folder is created. is there another way?

How do you separate bookmarks for two different users on the same computer?

My wife and I use the same desktop and the same Firefox browser. Is there a way to have separate bookmark lists for each of us? We don't really need subtopics or other organizers, just two separate lists.

Either separate Windows User Accounts or separate Firefox Profiles will give you separate bookmarks lists, but all your personal data will be separate - passwords, extensions, browsing history, etc. I haven't seen an addon that will give you separate bookmarks storage within the same Firefox Profile.

Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.

Looking for MAC/Aperture user in the Morgnatown WV area

I am trying to find a MAC users group or helpful person in the Morgantown WV area who would willing to lend me a hand a book project.

There are nearly 800 images and nearly as much text.

Just what kind of "book" do you have in mind?
Basically a book version of the web site: a travelogue.
Format and size is yet to be determined but I am leaning towards landscape 11x8 or larger. I have been looking into VioVio (http://www.viovio.com) as a possible printing service.

What was the URL for the images you used?
I shoot with the web in mind so I must resize my images.
Usually I have a small image in with the text which is linked to a higher resolution image if anyone wants to see it.
Such as:

and most appear to be 180 DPI.
How did you determine this?
I still do not understand how.
DPI is a printing term (dots per inch) and the more an image file has, the better (and larger), the image prints will display. 300 DPI would be much better and maybe you have them stored on your PC or camera memory card.
I know that 300dpi is considered a minimum for quality printing, but I have never been sure how to determine this. Usually, I just use the original image from my cameras when getting prints made.
For web use, I resize them to a width of 400-600px.
If only 180 files were shot you'll be limited in the display dimensions in your "book". More like 4X5 inch sizes (maybe even smaller) on glossy paper. But you could arrange the images "4 up" to print a larger "coffee table" size book if you wanted.
I went to the MAC lab here at WVU yesterday and test drove Aperture.
I was able to make three or so pages without much problem.
But, I could not find a way to resize the image containers as they are set up in the templates.
I could resize image containers which I added to the page template, but then I could not apply the template style to these containers. The were unstyled boxes, not like the ones in template.

If your Mom has a computer you could just save your Web pages as PDF (Portable Document Format) and each "page" of your Web site could be joined together into a single file. With the correct tools (and an online connection) she could view the thumbnail images and text in their current form and a click on the thumbnails would load the full sized images in any browser.
She has no computer, never has and never will.
But, she is a lifelong bibliophile and a book of the website she would truly appreciate and cherish.
You may also want to take a look at the Apple TV appliance. It could display your images on any modern TV (no text) in a slideshow mode with dozens of transitions and even a custom audio track.
I thought about this, but she is nearly deaf and TV is still TV - not a book.
Last, but not least, is the power of QuickTime Pro. Very easy to make a custom side show from your images and add an audio track. Then just send this file to your DVD burning software.
You can add text tracks (text over images or "black") and audio and even some simple transitions to make a nice DVD version.
A good idea for sharing with others - but not my mom.
I may look into using InDesign for the PC, but the thought of placing 800 images and the related text is quite daunting to me. That is why I had hope to use Aperture. It is some what automated/pre-laid out, but allow some customization.

G4 450DP Mac OS X (10.4.4) digidesign, motu, apogee

I love them. I've bought 4, all Sonnet. I trust Sonnet more than the others. They've been in the game longer than most. The installs are easy, no software needed most of time, and I have had not one issue ever. I am using a 1.7 in my quicksilver, a 1.4 in my G4 450 Sawtooth, and at one point had a dual 1.3, and a 1.0, all Sonnet.
My 1.7 G4 runs Adobe Creative Suites Premium 2, Macromedia Studio 8 and all my other pro apps flawlessly. I use this machine every single day for my design business. I can afford a G5, but I don't need it. My machine runs fast enough to where I don't notice the speed fast or slow...I hooked up a new 23" Cinema display, have the max 1.5 gig of ram, put a 120 gig drive in it and I'm set for a few more years...this machine by the way was purchased in 2001. So, I will have used it around 8 years by the time I will want a new one. That's not bad, and that $250 I spent on the Sonnet made it possible.
If I had to say there is a downside, it's the additional noise some of the more powerful ones make. There is usually a fan on these upgrades, above 1.0ghz, and it did add a bit of noise. I don't notice it so much unless I shut everything in the room off at night and leave it running.
That's the only thing I've ever noticed. Other than that, there is no way to tell this isn't a stock 1.7ghz G4. The System Profiler reports it perfectly.
I say go for it. Just don't get goofy with the $500 dual jobbers. That seems kind of overkill. Under $300 and you will be amazed at the speed a G4 can still put out.

How does upgrade for aperture work if use the trial to download?

I have a new macbook pro. I have installed my Aperture 2.X on it. Can I download the trial and when I purchase get the "upgrade" price? If so, how does that work. Do I type in my 2.x serial number at some point?
Or, if I purchase the Aperture disk, how does the upgrade work then?

In either case, with AP 2.x installed, the AP 3 upgrade installer should see that and only require entry of the upgrade serial number.
If doing a clean install with AP 2 not installed, you enter the AP 3 upgrade serial number and will get a second serial number field pop-up asking for a full version serial number (you would enter the AP 2 serial number at this point).
Assuming nothing is amiss with your system, that should do it.

It's a built-in app so it won't appear in the store.
If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the phone has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

Folder permissions for sharing between users on the same machine

Hello,
I have several accounts on my MacBook and I want to keep some files private and some files shared with full permissions for everyone.
OS X standard behavior for the default Users/Shared folder is that everyone has read/write access to the folder, but if you create a new file there, then only the creating user has write access to that file.
I want to change that folder's behavior so that newly created files can be modified by everyone on default.
How would I do that?

Thanks, your answer helped me a lot. I found an even simpler method which doesn't require any extra applications.
Open console and navigate to the directory where your share directory is located, e.g. /Users/Share/
create the desired folder: mkdir public
set acl permissions for each user with: chmod +a "username1 allow flag1,flag2, ....." public/
check permissions with: ls -le
Example:
chmod +a "dev allow list, add_file, search, delete, add_subdirectory, delete_child, readattr, writeattr, readextattr, writeextattr, readsecurity, writesecurity, chown, file_inherit, directory_inherit" public/
This will give the user dev full access to that folder. Any file or directory created inside that folder by the user dev will also inherit the permissions of that folder.
Also, the advanced permissions override any other permissions. you can test that my making that folder inaccessible with chmod oga-rwx public/ and dev will still be able to access it because of the acl permissions.

Given the mediocre mega pixel hike (well scrape might be more accurate) and of course your compass! very handy these days :o) is the price worth an early upgrade?
I'll see out my 3G contract and then look at the competition. There are other offerings out there that do more than iPhone as far as feature set goes (ok they don't have the app store, but get an iPod Touch and use that instead of the iPhone and get a more feature rich mobile with say an 8 or 10 mega pixel camera and Bang and Olufsen sound for example - think Samsung Beat).
Might be cheaper to think about the 3G S Pay As You Go option and using that handset on your existing contract. Then you will qualify for a very nice reward this time next year as you will be out of contract
