OS 9 "classic" partition

I haven't even looked at my OS 9 "classic" partition in a very long time. It takes up precious disk space on my dinosaur Mac. Is there anyway to rid myself of it without reinstalling my OS? I would prefer not to go through that again.

"Is there anyway to rid myself of it without reinstalling my OS?"
Why would you have to reinstall an OS just to get rid of some files?
If you want to get rid of Classic, just trash the contents of "System Folder," then restart. Then trash folders named "System Folder" and "Applications (Mac OS 9)."
If you want to change the partition scheme, then sorry, you must reformat the drive.

  • Classic partition no longer required.

All my OS9 devices and programmes have now been replaced or updated.
I'd be grateful for idiot proof instructions on how to 'get rid of' (a technical term) the Classic partition.
    Thanks for any help.

    Peter:
    To delete OS 9
    • Double click on the folder named System Folder (not folder named System)
    • Select all (Command + A)
    • Delete by dragging to Trash or Command + Delete
    • Empty Trash (Command + Shift + Delete)
    • Do the same for the OS 9 Applications Folder.
    • Drag empty folders to Trash and empty Trash.
If OS 9 was on its own partition Disk Utility cannot reparition without destroying data. You will either need to:
    • Clone everything on your HDD to an external Firewire HDD, reformat the HDD and then clone back, or
    • Use a third party utility like DriveGenius or Volume Works or iPartition to repartition on the fly. I have heard of successful report about DriveGenius. I have neither used, nor can I vouch for the effectiveness of the other two. My advice is to be sure you have a good backup/clone before you attempt this procedure, in which case you can simply reformat the drive.

  • Partition external hard drive and install OS9

I have a Lacie external hard drive, 350 GB, and would like to partition it and install OS9 in one of the partitions so that I can run some of the applications I have that won't run in OSX. What do I need to do. How much space should I partition the volumes into, and how many. Do the applications need to be in the same volume as OS9. I also want a volume for backup using "Time Machine" of OSx (leopard) which is in my internal drive in my iMac G5 with 80 GB., and another for backup of files that are in my internal hard drive.

    Hi, falcontech -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions -
    Bad news, perhaps.
Your G5 is not OS 9 bootable; no G5 is.
In addition, Leopard (OSX 10.5) does not support Classic (OS 9 used as a program while the machine is booted to OSX).
In order to make use of OS 9 as Classic, you would need to also install a bootable version of OSX 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.3 (Panther), boot the machine to that and then use Classic. Depending on which model it is, your iMac G5 model originally came with a version of either OSX 10.3 or OSX 10.4; its original disk set also can install Classic.
As far as partition sizes go, I would allow at least 20GB for the OSX/Classic partition. Although Classic (OS 9) is not fussy about whether its programs are on the same volume as OS 9 is, it would make little sense to have them elsewhere. Among other things, having the OS 9 programs on the same volume as OS 9 would make responses a bit faster since seeking would be restricted to just one volume.
As far as the remainder goes, your needs would best determine the partition sizes.

  • 10.4.7 Update and Classic System Folder

I installed 10.4.7 with no problems.
However, I needed to start Classic to run an old application, and when it started up, I got a message stating that changes were required. I allowed the changes to be made and the old application started up with no problems.
Today I tried to boot up my QuickSilver using the Classic partition. (I've done this routinely for the last two years to do repair work on my 9.2.2 partition.) The machine would not boot. Instead it booted using my regular 9.2.2 System folder.
When I checked the start-up folders using the OS 9.2 Startup panel, it showed the Classic system as version 9.2.5. (Using the 10.4.7 Startup pane, there is no version given at all, it just states "Mac OS.") The system file was updated during the changes to Classic. The QuickSilver will no longer boot from this partition.
I would still like to boot from the Classic partition. Is there a workaround for this?
    QuickSilver   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    QuickSilver   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Apparently during the "update" of the Classic System folder, there was a glitch. I replaced the Classic System File using the one from my OS 9.2.2 System folder, and I can now boot from the Classic partition AND Classic runs fine from OS 10.4.7.

  • Partition of the HD's Zen to

Hi, recently my zen touch died.
Because to change the unit was too expensi've i've decided to don't change it.
I've opened the Zen touch and recupered the HD.
Connecting it with an adaptator 2.5" -> 3.5" ( it works perfectly with the HD ) windows recognize the connection of an HD. But there's a problem : Windows XP can't read the partition due to the fact that's not a classical partition that is in the HD of the creative zen touch.
So my question is : Does anybody know how to read this partition with windows XP or where can i find this sort of information ?
Thanks a lot for answering .

Although some work was done on examining the partition, it never became a driver of program to edit it. So basically there's no way to retrieve it.

  • Questions re: Partitioning HD for OSX & OS9x

I have a Beige G3, MT, 300mhz, rev.1, with an 4GB Ultra SCSI Quantum Viking WSE that is basically a goner now. I bought a Seagate Ultra ATA/100 7200 RPM 160GB hard drive to replace it, and need a little advice about how to partition it. (bought the 160GB before I learned that, as an internal drive, my Beige will only see about 127GB - oh well, live and learn....).
For a while I need to continue to use OS9 for quite a few Apps & external devices. Also, I do a lot of graphic & web work so there's a lot of revising of files going on on my machine.
After browsing through the posts here, I still have some questions:
    Q. Since my computer will only be seeing 127GBs out of 160, what happens to the rest of the "unseen" 33GBs? If, for instance, I format this drive today and then get a controller card or move it to a FW case later, what happens with the previously "unseen" GBs? Do they just get added on to the last partition? Will I have to reformat the whole drive again?
    Q. Is it a good or bad idea to put the OS9 Classic system folder on a separate partition from OSX? What would be the pros or cons with this? (I plan on mostly using the regular OS9x on a separate partition for a lot of my Apps and such to avoid the conflicts with Classic that I've heard about, and until I get all my software & devices upgraded to OSX).
    Q. I read some posts where some people don't think partitioning is a good idea, but since it looks like I'm going to have to do it anyway in order to install Tiger, I figured I would probably go ahead and partition the rest of the drive The list below might look like over-kill, but from what I've read, this type of set-up seems to minimize and confine disk fragmentation & corruption which seems to me to be a plus - any cons to this?
    Q. Also, does this order of partitioning seem ok? (I came up with this configuration after reading some info at these sites: http://www.sciencequest.org/support/computers/mac/topics/partitioning.html and http://www.themacintoshguy.com/mactips/archive/tip11.shtml
    Partition 1: 7.95GB - OSX (Tiger)
Partition 2: 10GB - Scratch Disk (for Photoshop scratch disk, scanner captures, burning CDs, downloading, browser cache, etc. - in essence, no files reside here).
    Partition 3: 5GB - OS9x (original)
    Partition 4: 5GB - OS9x Classic
Partition 5: 10GB - Temp/Work area (Unlike the "Scratch" partition, files/projects may reside until completed)
    Partition 6: 50GB - Docs & Resource Library
    Partition 7: 5GB - Email
    Partition 8: 20GB - Apps
Partition 9: 7.95GB - Emergency OSX system, & OSX repair utilities (Disk Warrior, & Drive Genius).
    Partition 10: 5GB - Emergency OS9 system, & OS9 repair utilities, (DW & Norton).
All recommendations, opinions and tips are greatly appreciated.

    Kathleen:
The tech forum in the ExPostFacto site (http://forum.macsales.com/) has a number of extensive discussions about partitioning and recommendations. I suggest you look there for additional discussion by people with far more expertise than me.
I do remember a couple of points from my reading in that forum.
    1) If things go awry in an attempted EPF installation, under certain conditions it can alter or cause problems in the System 9 being used at the time. Having a separate partition for a duolicate System 9 for EPF to use would protect your regular working system in the event of such a mishap.
I believe one recommendation indicated you could just drag and drop your existing System 9 from your internal drive onto a new partition, even on an external drive, in order to create such a separate System for EPF use.
    2) You may wish to have a separate System 9 partition for use as a helper disk for EPF to use.
    3) You may wish to have a separate System 9 partition to use for System X to designate as a classic environment.
    4) You may wish other partitions for applications, data/documents, etc.
As I recall, most of the detailed recommendations (I believe I saw at least 3 different such messages during my travels at that site) included a first partition of >8GB for System X, two other separate partitions (several GB) for System 9, one for desigantion as classic mode under System X, the other for use by EPF in installing and also (if necessary) as a helper disk.
If I have recapitulated this information incorrectly I trust others will set you straight. In any event, I recommend you take a close look at the EPF tech forums - a search for partitioning should yield rapid results of very helpful information. Hope this helps - Good luck!

  • Problems upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9

I'm having trouble upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9.. The first install CD won't boot, I get a grey screen and no "blue OS X sign" it just stays grey.. And here is briefly the history of what happened to get me to this point..
This problem is on an iMac (summer 2000, the one with a slot loader). We (my wife's Mac) got it used and it was running OS 9.0.4 (She) wanted to run 10 and picked up 10.1 on ebay and installed it.. No problems there as 10.1 came with a boatload of system CDs including Classic 9.2.2.
Then, after awhile and seeing 10.1 was too old for various software on peripherial devices.. I had some Jag 10.2 CDs lying around and we installed that and did a 10.2.8 upgrade.. Now it's time to install 10.3.9 and when it wouldn't install, a friend told us it was a firmware update problem.. Okay I went to the firmware update page for this iMac model and read the instructions.. But one caveat was in order to install a firmware update on an iMac which came with OS 9.0.4 at least 9.1 has to be installed to complete the update.
Here's the tricky part , and it may sound really weird, but please bare with me; my wife had originally partitioned the 10GB HDD into 3 partitions and 9.2.2 was on one of them.. Sofar so good. I installed 10.2 and then an upgrade to 10.2.8. Then recently she told me that she had DELETED 9.2.2 and intended to install 10.3 on that partition and run 10.2 on the other one.... so she repartitioned the HD into 2 partitions.. with 10.2 on disk 1 and leaving disk 2 completely empty.. So, whew, when we tried to upgrade to 10.3 and nothing happened I thought this may be the cause of the problem.. A missing system.
I tried in vain to reinstall 9 from the original CDs (by holding down the "C" key) and when I tried to install it the finder coudn't find a volume to install it on. All there was on the screen was the CD icon..
Maybe I should've done the firmware upgrade before we installed 10.1.. But I didn't know I had to.. So, in anycase, it's now next to impossible to GO BACK to the starting line and reinstall 9.0.4 and do a reworking of the upgrades to 9.1 and 9.2 so I can properly do the firmware update and finally go the distance and install 10.3.9!
Is everyone confused yet? If not any helpful advice to get me out of this mess would be helpful.

cornellius your post was *Very Helpful.
    I have the installation CDs for 9.0.4, 9.2.2, 10.1 and 10.2..
I booted from the 9 CD and went to Disk Set Up and "initialised" the HD which placed a HD icon on the desktop. That resulted in a restoration of 9.0.4.. But I can't download the update, my DSL modem won't work with OS 9 minimum is 10.2. A little thing I forgot. Then I installed 9.2 since you can only do online firmware updates from 9.1 or higher.. I assume higher means 9.2.2.
I read on this support's firmware update page that if you boot from OS X (10.1 or 10.2?) and go to the menu and Disk Utilities on the installer CD you can get firmware updates there.. I booted from 10.1 and could not see how to do that. But, as you suggested, I can "Erase Disk" and "Install OS 9 Drivers," i.e., "Classic" (check box) and go from there.. I can do this with 10.2 as well.. Same procedure same result.. 10.2 will be installed with 9.2.2 running in the background.
But whether the firmware updates happen I'm not sure. As I stated above, this iMac had gone through two OS X upgrades, 10.1 then 10.2 and as I said somehow the Classic partition, 9.2.2, was deleted making it impossible to start up from OS 9. But I know once Classic is reinstalled with 10.2, I can do the firmware update.. and eventually install Panther.. Panther is a minimum requirement for iSale and, increasingly, other Mac software and the wife bought iSale to organize her ebay auctions.. so Panther it is.
Well this sounds like a hurry and wait or wake up and go to sleep situation.. Larry, Moe and Curly couldn't do a better job than I'm doing..
    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

  • Black text prints white

I finally purchased a copy of iWork '08 and merrily created about 80 slides only when I went to print them out I discovered that the image of the text was in most places white. If the text was in a box it printed and some of the grey text printed along with all text I have set up to fade in or out as the presentation progresses. The details:
The black text appears in preview but appears white due to the colored background.
    Changing fonts does not help.
All other programs print fine. I am printing on a Canon MP830, the text does show up on my Laser.
If I export it to a .pdf the problem follows, even though the text appears on the screen and in preview.
If I change the color of my text from black to red, or blue it prints fine, shades of grey do not.
If I export the file to power point and print it from an old version I have in a "Classic" partition running OS 10.4 it prints but when I installed iWork in this partition I get the same result.
The printer, my software, and iWork has the latest updates installed.
This is obviously (well maybe not so obviously since it could be a virus no one has caught up with yet) a huge bug in iWork and how it handles black text (I don't know about graphics because there are not black graphics in my slides). I spent several hours reading through the "Discussions" and there are quite a few instances where black text comes out white, blank sheets print out, conversions to .pdf come out with no text ect.
Does any one know of a work around for this? My only option currently is to fix this or return iWork and go back to Micorsoft with my tail between my legs and purchase Office.

Presets is set to "Standard" I never changed it. If I select the drop down window there is a choice for "last used settings" and a "Save As".
I did manage to get my slides printed by saving the file as a Power Point, opening it in a old Office 2001 version of Power Point I have in a "Classic" partition. After a little reformatting they printed perfectly on the same printer. Its kind of sad to have a 8 year old Microsoft program out-perform the latest program from Apple. Of course I will say that using Keynote was enjoyable, but if you can't reliably Print and Export the program is useless no matter how many useful features it comes with.

  • Apple LaserWriter utility that only works on OS 9 - now what?

10.5 will not allow OS 9 run even if is in a classic partition.
What about those of us that are still using Apple Laserwriters and no utility was ever made for it under OS 10? Had to keep OS 9 for that utility. There are times I still need to use the utility to change printer features.
First Apple don't give access to an Apple printer under OS X and now they break the only path available under OS 9.
Any suggestions? (No, buying a new Postscript laser printer is not an option!)

Hi, Derryl. Repost your question in the Printing in Leopard forum, where you may find someone who has a more elegant workaround for you.
The only one that occurs to me is to create a partition on your hard drive containing a bootable OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x with Classic support installed, and boot to that partition whenever you need to tweak the Printer Utility.

  • Close but no cigar. (Installing Panther on Beige G3)

    Hi Folks,
Last time I posted here back in October, I was having trouble with a USB 2 PCI card with my Biege G3 running OS 8.6. Got an old USB 1.1 card since then and it is working fine...Now I am upgrading even farther. I've been reading the posts here, and have concluded that the Panther OS seems to be the least problematic for OSX on Beige G3. So I have been trying to install it, and am stuck at a very early stage. Here is what I have done, see if I missed anything:
    1) Bought a retail copy of OS 9.0 and updated to 9.2.2.
    2) Got a new battery (it needed one).
    3) Bought a retail version of Panther. (Used but complete.)
    4) Downloaded XPostFacto v. 3.1 - read all the instructions, and met all the requirements.
    5) Partitioned my disk into 3 as per the instructions, as follows:
    a) Part. 1 - 7.66 Gigs Extended Format (Closest I could get to 8 Gigs using Apple's Drive Setup). I call this partition "OS X".
    b) Part. 2 - 37.68 Gigs Extended Format - Installed System 9.2.2. I call this partition "System 9".
    c) Part. 3 - 28.74 Gigs Standard Format - Will be used for older stuff, and called "Classic".
    6) Put Panther's first install CD into the CD drive.
    7) Started up in OS 9.2.2 from the System 9 disk and launched XPostFacto. I get their menu. Everything cool so far.
    8) The instructions at this point say to "Select the target Volume you want to install OS X to" and "Select Install CD".
This is where I am stuck! The menu shows all 3 partitions in the upper section, and in the lower section is shown the Install CD, but EVERYTHING is greyed out. I can't select anything. The first 'disk' shown is System 9, greyed out, and says 'OSX not installed', but there is a yellow caution symbol next to it. The caution symbol I CAN click on, and it says "This volume cannot be used to boot OS X because it extends past the 8 GB mark on the disk". Well, duh, I don't want to install it on that disk.... The other two partions are also shown, greyed out, and with the 'OSX not installed' note for the OS X partition (But no caution symbol); and the "Classic" partition, greyed out, says 'Not a Bootable Device'.
The Install CD section says 'Mac OSX install Disk 1' and 'Mac OS 10.3 install CD' - greyed out. The "Install from CD.." button is also greyed out and unclickable.
I checked the Log file, and don't see anything that stands out as a problem from that - I'll post what it says if that will help, but what do I do? Thanks.

    Success!!
Grant, your idea about reformatting all the partitions in Extended format did the trick. I took the time to zero out everything for the initialization - probably overkill, but I wanted to make sure I left no stone unturned.
I guess it figures that if any of the partions on a disk are unbootable, it wont let you install on any of them.
Nice find!.... I was originally thinking that I wanted a partition in standard format because the only disk maintenance tool I have other than the Apple Disk First Aid is Norton Utilities, and I noticed that Norton doesn't seem to work too well on an extended format disk. So I wanted to keep older stuff on that partition, and keep it in check with Norton. Lesson learned.
Anyway, the Mac is in the other room installing away, so if I don't post anything for awhile, that is a good sign that things are going smoothly. Fingers crossed. So we can mark this post as "Solved" (If I can figure out how). Thanks again for your help.

  • Key Chain - how to get my old passwords on the new system after clean inst.

    Hello,
just switched to Tiger and took the opportunity to make a clean install, to get rid of my classic partition.
Before I made a copy of the harddrive data with "Superduper". I managed to get back after installing almost all my preferences, mail accounts, etc., but I don´t know where I can find the Key chains from the old system (copied already the files from Library and User/Library to the new system, but it won´t work..
    Please help!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I assume you clone restored your data back again from the external hard drive. If that's what you did, a more reliable method is simply to erase and install Tiger, and then use the Migration Assistant to import the data from the external hard drive over Firewire.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
But since you've done what you have, you may still be able to import the old keychain:

I will soon be getting a copy of Jaguar. Currently I have OS 9.2. I will want to be able to fully boot into both. Will I have to make partitions for each system, or will I be able to just have both systems in a single partition?

    Hi Miles,
you can have both systems on one partition and still be able to boot into both systems natively. However, if you ever selected the OS 9 system folder as Classic environment you might run into trouble. If you plan to use OS 9 as both Classic and native boot system you should definitely consider putting them on separate partitions.
On my old G4 Quicksilver I had this configuration:
    Partition 1: MacOS X native + OS 9 "Classic"
    Partition 2: OS 9 "Native"
Partition 3. Minimum MacOS X as trouble-shooting partition.

  • Having problems with OS X 10.4 updates. System slows then crashes.

    Hi there,
Got an older G4 400MHz and have done a clean install of Tiger OS X 10.4 from the DVD onto a new hard drive. Have done the software updates to 10.4.11 and, for some reason, after a while the cursor freezes. I do a restart and the same thing happens. I have done an Erase in Utilities and then reinstalled and only did partial updates to 10.3. But after a while the same thing happens. Panther 10.3.9 is on the the second hard drive and it runs as smooth as glass. It runs iTunes up to 7.5 but 7.6 only runs on 10.4x.
I cant figure this out. A local Apple dealer told me I should be able to do the 10.4.11 updates and he's done it on an older G4 with no problems. Could this be a system requirements problem? Does Tiger require a faster processor? 10.4 works but just. Or do I have to do a firmware update?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Take care,

    ali,
I didn't get back last night because of a certain football game on TV. WOW is the only word for it. It wore me out. I'm not exactly a Giants fan but I love upsets and close games that end like that. I think the whole country (and world) saw a truly unforgettable Super Bowl, one for the ages and perhaps one of the ten best ever. Not only that but the 1972 Miami Dolphins perfect season of 17-0 shall be preserved, maybe for another 35 years. I remember their 17-0 season with much fondness from my college days, and I'm from South Florida. Oops, I hope you're not a Patriots fan?

That requires a CD which I don't have. My wife has a iMac G5 which she guards jealously and she may have Hardware Test CD. I don't think Classic will solve the kernel issue. I had Classic partitioned before on another hard drive, before I bought the new 80GB, and had the same OS X 10.4x update crashes. The cursor becomes unstable and then suddenly freezes usually about 5-7 minutes after booting.
NOTE: In the kernel panic doc, there is mention of resetting the PRAM. Could the problem be my PRAM battery? I think it needs replacing. I've been getting the message "your computer is set to the wrong date". It presets to Jan 1 1970. A date I remember well. Hung over and sick after a drunken New Year's Eve saying farewell to the 60s and hello to the 70s on a beach.
You may be right, this isn't a software issue, it's probably corrupt hardware that's easily replaceable.
    Later,
    Rob

  • Quark6.5 suddenly crashes 10.4.7-No Report Allowed

Has anyone had this problem suddenly arise and is there a solution?
I have some Quark files made about 6 weeks ago that, when opened by whatever means, will crash Quark. Even more strange - when the dialog box opens to report to Apple or reopen - if I click on report nothing happens.
Is this a known issue? Is there a known solution?
    TIA your help
    J2

Apparently during the "update" of the Classic System folder, there was a glitch. I replaced the Classic System File using the one from my OS 9.2.2 System folder, and I can now boot from the Classic partition AND Classic runs fine from OS 10.4.7.

  • Hard time for selecting Startup Disk (partition) in Mac Classic II.

Dear coleagues, I'd like your help to understand and solve a tricky trouble. I'm sorry for the long text, but the issue is probably living in a small detail.
The issue regards a Mac Classic II with internal and external HDDs. Internal HDD has two partitions, a smaller with System 7.1 (first) and a larger with System 7.5.3 (second). This one is installed there since 5 years ago, working fine.
The (just installed) external HDD has 6 partitions (because of its size 9 Gb). It has been formated runing VCP in this Classic II itself and all partitions are initialized with HFS. It is intended to be a backup for my Classic II as well as my Mac Plus. I've started Installing System 7.5.3 in its third partition. Other partitions remain still empty.
Using only internal HDD I can already perceive that "Startup Disk" control panel is unable to change the boot partition attribute between partitions in the same drive. When I open "Startup Disk" it usualy both partitions of internal HDD are highlighted. I can select a Zip Drive, for instance, and it will boot from Zip. But, when I switch it back to HDD, doesn't bother wich partition I select, it will always boot with the same partition (usually 7.5.3). Then, If i open Startup Disk CP again, both partitions are again highlighted.
To switch between partitions in the same drive, I use Lido 7.5.6 PMount and there I select the boot partition. Then every time I select my HDD, that'll be the default boot partition.
My conclusion is that in Mac Classic II the Startup Disk CP is unable to set a partition within a drive, it selects the drive only. The boot will obey the drive's partition table flag. That's why I can do it whith Lido, writing directly at HDD's flags.
Now, attaching the external HDD, I can see all its partitions in Startup Disk CP and then I select one of them (the 3rd, with 7.5.3). Before rebooting, I close and open again the Startup Disk CP, then I can see all its 6 partitions highlighted. Just like I've been doing with the internal HDD, probably the solution to set a specific boot partition would be through Lido 7.5.6 PMount again. But Lido is unable to handle this drive. It appears gray in the drives list.
What does it sound to you? What would you recommend to test? Is there an alternative for Startup Disk CP?
    Thank you.
    Regards, Ciro (Brazil)

    Dear Jan, good Evening.
    Thank you for your time.
In fact I can select a specific partition, but by closing and reopenning Startup Disk CP I realize that the selection has been attributed to the physical drive (all partitions highlighted).
I have tried Startup Disk CP in both System 7.1 and System 7.5.3. They do the same way.
Internal HDD has been formated, partitioned and initialized with Apple HD CS Setup.
This external HDD in a different way. Apple HD SC Setup hasn't been able to "see" it, probably because of its prior format system. Lido neither. That's why I went to VCP. Moreover, as it is too big for 68030, I had to format it attached to a Performa 6360. After formating, I've let VCP make set the partitions in HFS mode (partitions with 512, 1024 and 2032 Mb).
I've mounted VCP in Mini VMac to get some screenshots for you:
Bringing it back to Mac Classic II, it could be mounted with Lido, but System 7 has asked to initialize all partitions again. I've accepted, installed system 7 on it, and it didn't boot. Then I've repeated the partitioning and initializing procedures using Apple HD SC Setup (since now there's a Mac HDD with "small" logical drives). Nothing changed.
I'm following your tip about System Picker. I've downloaded the sit file and read about it. It seems to be able to overlay the problem. I'm gonna try it and report back here.
But I feel still uncomfortable not to be able to do things the regular way. As far as I know, the boot partition is an attribute of a drive partition in partition map, just like the "Active Partition" found in FAT systems. I should be able to write there as I can do with Lido in internal HDD.
    Thank you, Jan.
    Best regards,
    Ciro Bruno.
