OS 9 Support Dropped By ATI?

Just noticed, when attempting to access the ATI site to check on current software for Mac ATI video cards, that the new AMD/ATI site no longer provides download links for OS 9 drivers. Fortunately I have copies of the last OS 9 software updates applicable to my various video cards. Might still be able to get a link through VersionTracker.

James,
I have the OS 9 installer file for the Radeon Update dated January 2005. I believe that is the last one ATI issued. I could try to email that file to you; however, the Release Notes indicate that this Radeon update only applies to the following retail products and equivalent OEM products:
RADEON 9200 Mac Edition
RADEON 9000 Pro Mac Edition
RADEON 8500 Mac Edition
RADEON 7000 Mac Edition
RADEON Mac Edition (AGP & PCI)
Xclaim VR 128
Rage Orion
Nexus 128
Xclaim VR (Rage II/Pro)
Xclaim 3D Plus
Nexus GA
Xclaim 3D (Rage II/Pro)
Xclaim GA
Given that fact, I don't think this update will help you run your 9800 video card while booted in OS 9. I have the same problem with my ATI Radeon 9600 video card. It is so frustrating that I installed a Radeon Mac Edition PCI card in my MDD G4 so I can run my OS 9 games. I switch the DVI connector from my LCD monitor over to the PCI card and boot into OS 9. What a pain!
This planned obsolescence really *****. If automobile manufactures were allowed to operate like computer hardware and software companies, I wouldn't be able to maintain my 1999 Chrysler.

  • Is the Flash player GPU acceleration supported on the ATI Radeon X1900 XT?

    Anyone know if Flash player 11.1.102.55 GPU acceleration is supported on the ATI Radeon X1900 XT? I didn't see it explicitly listed in the unsupported hardware list (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/921/cpsid_92103.html). The card is not displaying any of the stage 3D content unless I disable hardware acceleration. I get the same results whether I use Firefox, Chome, or Safari.
    I'm on a Mac, my system specs are;
    Processor  2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Graphics  ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
    If I need to I'll replace the card but I want to make sure it's the issue before I do.
    Thanks in advance for any insight.

    I'm wondering the same thing. I have an X1950 pro and am trying to get it to help out with youtube videos.
    The latest X**** driver was released in 2010, and the original driver at the very earliest March 2009. Both the X1900XT and X1950 Pro are not listed on that list.
    However, I do recall feeling Flash player 11 being slightly faster than Flash 10 when I first installed it. Flash still didn't become "10x" faster and 720p through 1080p video certainly still isn't smooth.

  • Windows 7 support dropped for Mac Pro 2013

    I have sent feedback to Apple already as I understand from the support page Windows 7 x64 support has been dropped for the new Mac Pro.
    Bearing in mind the corporate workstation market has largely shunned Windows 8/8.1 I find the dropping of support inexplicable and plain daft to enable the Mac Pro to take market share from the windows hardware domain.
    My clients have purchased two Mac Pro's on launch day on the prerequisite that they can run Windows 7 with the possibility of more orders after the new year once testing is complete. Unless it can be made to work using EFI boot which as I suspect is the reason support and can easily be worked around you lose in my case 2 orders with the possibility if 10/20 more after.  No workaround will mean cancelled orders.
    Hopefully if enough of us air our disappointment Apple will reconsider because they will lose a sizeable chunk of sales because of this near sighted policy.

    If what you say is true, then it would be a question of hardware support capabilities in Win 7, not a near-sighted policy. In any event, these are user forums. You aren't speaking to Apple, so I suggest you speak to Apple. Don't complain here. It's inappropriate and violates the Terms of Use.

  • Why was Extension Manager support dropped for Bridge?

    Title says it all. Adobe Extension Manager supported Bridge in CS4, CS5 and CS5.5 and now it doesn't. From what I understand, the simple addition of the "configuration" folder and the files it contains from a CS5.5 installation suddenly makes it work, so my question is: why was this dropped for CS6? Is there more to it?

    Hi David,
    what makes you say that the support for that got dropped ?
    I have a 1130 on my desk running 12.4.25 and it definitely can be configured for universal WGB ...
    This said, it's a bet strange to configure a ceiling-mountable AP for uWGB but you probably have your reasons :-)

  • How to create alpha videos now FLV / F4V support dropped from Media encoder

    Now that Media encoder has dropped support for FLV / F4V has anyone got any ideas how you would create a video with an alpha channel for use in flash professional. With flash professional only really supporting the H.264 CODEC, I can't see any way possible to use transparent videos now.  I'm currently having to resort to installing an old version of media encoder to get back access to FLV.  Does anyone have any other thoughts on how I could achieve this using the latest software.

    Hi Preran,
    Can you clarify why the Alpha channel video option has been removed?
    There's all sorts of reasons why people still need FLV, in our case its the video format we use with Aurasma to be able to have animated text on a transparent background in an AR environment....
    Why oh why would you just remove the option when h264 clearly doesn't replace all of FLVs features?

  • CS5 cannot support nVidia and ATI cards in same machine?

    Until recently, I was operating fine with a Radeon HD 5750 on dual monitors.  I wanted to add and utilize a third monitor (had some trouble with the DisplayPort output), so I just stuck in an off the shelf nVidia 8400 card.
    With the latest drivers on both, and both using OpenGL 3.2, CS5 seems to just freak out.  (The issue seems to be OpenGL centric.)
    Photoshop x86 just crashes while loading.
    Photoshop x64 will load, but it immediately reports that my cards do not support OpenGL acceleration and disables it.  It otherwise seems to work fine.
    After Effects will sort of run, but some strange things crash while it's loading (like gpu_sniffer.exe).  It crashes all the time during RAM previews, now, and the option to accelerate the GUI (or previews) with OpenGL is disabled.  So, while it's use-able, it's slow.
    Premiere Pro absolutely refuses to start.  I cannot even get a splash screen.
    (The other apps I do not use much.)
    I've gone back to dual monitor for now on the Radeon card (problems resolved with disabling the nVidia card), but do the CS5 apps really have that much trouble with two video cards with different chipsets?  Is there something I am forgetting to do?  I am not asking any of the apps to utilize the third monitor, so I cannot fathom what the issue is.  Again, the OpenGL version is the same on both cards...and both cards have the latest drivers (both from November).
    I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction or let me know what I should do to enable the nVidia card to peacefully co-exist and still be able to use OpenGL with the CS5 apps.
    Thanks for your help.
    Machine specs:
    * P43-based ASUS motherboard
    * Intel Core2Quad (each core at 2.8Ghz)
    * Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
    * 16 GB DDR3 RAM
    * ATI Radeon HD 5750 (1GB)
    * nVidia 8400 GS (512MB)
    * CS5 Master Collection

    It's not that the apps don't support mixed cards - but that the OpenGL drivers for the cards do not work well together.
    Even mixing different models of cards from the same vendor can run into problems when using OpenGL.
    Some apps have made mixed cards work - by using one GPU and completely ignoring the rest.
    We've talked to the GPU vendors to see about improving the situation, but, well, they're competitors.

  • Does Firefox for Android support drop-down list?

    Some desktop version websites extensively use drop-down list on the navigation menubar. But the annoying thing about this is in current Firefox, I can't find a way to expand the list items only without also triggering the link right onto the caption of the list, thus jumping to the next page immediately. If there's indeed a way around that, how to do it?

    The OS doesn't support hovering?
    Huh, In this case you devs are not at fault here.
    That being said, it sounds really ridiculous that you guys made a web browser that can't do anything of a particular desktop function. If you guys want some implementing suggestion, Consider these 2:
    1. Hold the Caption link on a dropdown menu, make the context menu appear, add another item at the bottom like "expand the menu" or something akin to that. tap it to expand the menu.
    2. Single tap to expend the menu regardless of the link below, tap the same place again to access the link, tap anywhere else aside the menu to retract it.

  • 64bit ProRes Support Dropped on OSX?

    I'm running PPro CC 2014 8.2.0 on a Mac Pro 5,1 with OSX 10.9.5 and noticed that Adobe QT32 Server runs and uses CPU whenever playing back ProRes 422 QuickTime material. I was under the impression this had been phased out in favor of Premiere's own 64bit ProRes decoder on OSX 10.8 and up starting with PPro 7.
    Has the slow QT32 decoder returned, or is there something wrong with my configuration?

  • Driver for ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB

    Greetings,
    I'm buying the abovementioned card from a friend and need the driver for 9.2.1. This was a stock OEM card for PM G4 FW800 and perhaps others.
    Will the driver be embedded in the 9.2.1 install or do I need to source it elsewhere?
    Where on the Apple site can I find the driver or this card? I tried Support | Downloads but to no avail.
    Many thanks for your help,

    Hi,
    My question was answered in this thread: OS 9 Support Dropped By ATI?

  • Supported flat panel displays for an ATI Rage 128 Pro/G4 500

    I originally was using an Apple 21" CRT display with my G4/500 until the display's picture tube failed. I am now looking to purchase a flat panel w/DVI, using my G4's DVI video port and the Rage 128 Pro card. I have found conflicting information on resolutions supported by the ATI card. I am looking at a Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD, and the requirements indicate that my system must be able to support WSXGA+ resolution (1680 x 1050). A 24" version of the Dell monitor requires the support of WUXGA resolution (1920x1200). WIll either of these flat panel monitors work with my G4? If not, what specs do I need to look at to determine compatibility? Thanks.
    Apple G4 500   Mac OS X (10.3.1)   ATI Rage 128 Pro Graphics Card

    Hi JBernstein,
    Karl,
    I greatly appreciate your efforts to resolve my
    question.
    No worries, Mate!
    To address a question you posed earlier, no, my G4
    did not come with a ADC port. I have both VGA and
    DVI-D ports on my G4/500 (Graphite) with the Rage 128
    Pro ADP card, which is 16 mb and 2x.
    From that, I would infer that you computer is not ADC enabled.
    It was the Genius at
    the Apple Store who mentioned the Radeon 9000 card as
    a replacement. but he also suggested that the current
    20" Apple display would work with my G4 ... we tried
    that today, and the OS would not launch and power the
    display. SO, we must replace the card, or live with
    small displays.
    Yes, the ATY 128 Pro generally does not have enough grunt to power the larger displays.
    I did find a number of Radeon 9600 Pro Mac Edition
    video cards on eBay, but most had a published spec of
    4X, and the response to whether it was backwards
    compatible with the 2x capability in my G4/500 is
    that it will not work. Is that true?
    All the information I have (via the ATI website) does not specifically state that the 9600 card will support AGP 2X. Other ATI cards that do support 2X have this specifically stated in the information. Therefore, there is no garauntee that the 9600 card will support 2X. Until I receive information that someone has used this card in an AGP 2X computer with success, I cannot advise trying to use it.
    I have not
    confirmed the Radeon 8500 as yet, but as you might
    imagine, it is frustrating to get conflicting
    responses.
    The ATI Radeon 8500 will work in your computer (as, partially, will the 9000 - refer to my earlier posting).
    Perhaps you might address a different question ... is
    there any place within Apple that I can go, even with
    paying a fee for services, that would definitively
    provide an absolute solution to an upgrade type
    question, complete with exact part number AND
    guarantee that the information is quite accurate? Why
    wouldn't Apple provide some type of infomration on
    replacement/upgrade path for older products (geez ---
    the G4/500 Graphite isn't even on the legacy products
    list yet) so that the customer can invest and upgrade
    without going through a challenging process to get
    the right information? The information I've turned up
    is vague and not geared towards solutions like this.
    Apple, for all sorts of reasons (legal and commercial), is loath to provide "official" advice on the use of any third party upgrade hardware on their products. Moreover, discussions on the morality of this is probably against the terms and conditions of this discussion forum.
    I'm all ears as to how to move forward with this G4
    with a replacement card, if that is possible.
    The way I see it, you need either an ATI 8500/9000 if your only desired upgrade is the capacity to run larger displays, or an ATI 9800 is you wish to do gaming, graphics and be able to make full use of all the new Tiger graphics facilities.
    Cheers!
    Karl
