OS 9.x cant connect to Airport Extreme

@the airport connection screen I select and enter password. Dialog box says wrong password (it is so the correct pw) I have tried re-entering a new password @ the extreme and still can't - why is that? v1.2 airport on iMac

Welcome to the discussions.
We will need more information, your post is a little confusing
Using OS9 does not afford you to connect wireless without the use of an Airport Card equipped computer.
If this is just being set up from scratch you will need to start all over and create a new network. Adding an Airport Card or an Airport Express or Extreme Router doesn't mean you can connect without first creating a Network and making sure all of your settings are correct in the Network and System Preferences.
Another side note almost all computers are or have the capability of using either the older Airport Card or the Airport Extreme Card.
These will not mix and match and here are the computers that can be equipped with both.

  • Cant connect to Airport extreme with Macbook.

Hi all. I am a switcher. I bought my iMac G5 in Feb. I loved it so much I got a Macbook notebook recently cuss of the free iPod deal. Plus I missed being able to be moblie with my computer. I had a linksys router from my old wireless pc but found it very difficult to hook up with my Macbook. I called Linksys for support but because my router is 3 yrs old, they wanted me to pay 9.95 for help. I would have but I cant understand those people. I love apple products and after seeing so many rave reviews on the airport extreme I purchased it. The lure of the 5 min set up brought me in. Well here I am hours later and nothing. I did manage to get rid of the blinking amber light. I dont know how, just kept messing with the settings and whoa, it worked, nice green light. I am not good at setting up networks so I hope someone can give me some advice.
I tried to set up the printer and nothing. I gave up and moved on to the Macbook. It says it cant find the base station. I tried to manually add the network I created, again no luck. So am I missing something simple here?
    iMac G5, macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

broke down and called support. Turns out a setting was set to manual on macbook. Dont know why but glad its resolved. If all else fails call tech support, huh?

  • Airport Utility cant connect to Airport Extreme Base Station, Error code -4

I am unable to use my Apple-product. Earlier it worked, with these settings: The Airport Extreme Base Station worked as a Gigabit switch and an Access Point. It was not supposed to work as a router, since I have a server "on the far side" of the AEBS.
In any case, it worked for a while. Then it started to act strangely, so I tried to check its settings. I was unable, so I did a factory reset. And haven´t been able to connect (for configuring) since. (It still works as a router and access point, but with the default settings, and with a blinking yellow led.)
When I use the Airport Utility (5.5.1) connected with a cable it finds nothing. Should I be able to configure it wired? When I connect wireless to the default "Apple Network XXXXXX" it finds the Airport Extreme "with default settings". I click "continue" or "Manual setting", and it says "Detecting wireless Apple Devices" (bear in mind that I translate the messages from swedish, It might get wrong), and then after a minute:
An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error Code: -4
I have shut off the firewall in both Windows and Panda Cloud Office Protection. I have tried to make lots of factory resets.

  • Time Machine doesnt see my USB drive, connected to Airport extreme =(

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure this one out for almost 3 weeks now, but with no luck. I have a usb hard drive, connected to airport extreme. I've clicked on "setup time machine", select "choose disk", there is no disk to select. So I click on the "set up time capsule, it takes me to airport utility. I then click on the "disk" button and file sharing is enabled.
I can mount the disk through the finder, just fine and able to transfer files back and forth, however time machine cant seem to pick up the drive. Would love to be able to use time machine to do backups, So can someone please help?
osx 10.5.5 with airport utility 5.3.2
    Thanks in advance!

Well this has worked for me. I have a Freecom 500Gb usb hard Drive connected through an unpowered 4-way USBhub to an Airport Extreme Base station. After mounting the Air Disk hard drive on my powerbook, I then dragged the disk to my user folder, thereby creating an alias. I have put that alias in my login items and now TimeMachine works beautifully. I've repeated it on a Mac Mini (also using OSX 10.5.5) and that seems to be fine too. Admittedly the back-ups take a long time over airport, but fine via Ethernet.
Good luck everyone who struggles with this.

  • How do I connect my Airport Extreme to my modem (Cisco Model DPC3010)?

I am having trouble connecting my Airport Extreme Wireless Base Station to a Cisco Modem (Model DPC3010).  I have used the Airport Extreme for years with other modems with no trouble.  Alas, this time around I can't get it to work.  I think I might not have the cable connected correctly.  Help, please.  Thanks

  • How do I connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to Epson 645 Printer?

I can't figure out how to connect my Airport Extreme 802.11n to my Epson 645 Printer.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

You may want to try reinstalling Mavericks. Airport Utility installed by Mavericks may no longer connect to your older AEBS (though I've not heard that.) Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select ReinstallLion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from
the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

how do I connect my airport extreme to windows 8.1

Connect an Ethernet cable between the U-verse router's LAN port to the WAN (circle-of-dots) port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Since you will have two routers in series, you will want to reconfigure the AEBS as a bridge. how do I connect my airport extreme to wifi as a repeater?

    Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately, Apple has designed their routers to only extend or repeat the wireless signal from other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the AirPort Extreme would be able to extend or repeat a wireless signal from another manufacturer's router.
I suppose that it could not hurt to try, but if the Extreme is still unopened, it might be a better idea to return the Extreme, get the information about the router at the neighbor's and then use a product from the same manufacurer that would be compatible to repeat or extend the wireless.

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • HT204057 Time machine back up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme.

Why did Apple stop supporting time machine back-up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme?  It worked very well.

Why did Apple stop supporting time machine back-up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme?
Time Machine backups are supported via USB hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme"ac" version.
Time Machine backups were not supported via USB hard drive connected to earlier versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Some users who tried this on earlier version AirPort Extremes seemed to have some success with Time Machine backups....some had moderate success and some had no success with this. Count me in the "no success" category.
See the topic about Time Machine support for USB disks in this Apple Support document:

Is it possible to have Time Machine backUp computer HD AND external HD connected to Airport Extreme.
    Sorry, but no.
Time Machine will backup your Mac, but not the hard drive attached to the AirPort Extreme.
Time Machine will back up a hard drive only if it is attached directly to your Mac via USB or FireWire.

    Hi gingerjedi,
It's normal with your actual Airport and confirm by Apple, but ...
Only If you see your printer in Airport Admin Utility under Printer :
    1) Download and install : http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/foomatic-rip-2008-01-30. dmg
    2) Download and install : http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/gplgs-8.61-ub.dmg
    3) Download and install : http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/hpijs-2.7.10-UB.dmg
    4) Repair permissions with Onyx or with your Install Disk
    5) Restart your computer
    6) Restart your connection with your Printer (Cable-Power-Connection with your Airport)
    7) In Prefs Panes, select Printer ( + ) and install a new Printer
    8) Select your indicated Printer in the menu choice. If you have a Name for your Airport, give this Name under Place or Emplacement (excuse, i am French) and select HP Deskjet D2400 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended).
    9) And click Done
With this Solution, you can just print. All other software possibilities can not run under the Airport. It is normal.
I think all is ok for you.

  • Printing problems with HP 1012 connected via Airport Extreme - resolved?

I originally posted on this issue in a long-running discussion on HP printer issues.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10109788#10109788
Problem: Upgraded iMac 10.4.11 to 10.6 Following upgrade everything seemed fine except that the HP 1012 connected via Airport Extreme was not responsive. The system knew the printer was there, had installed the proper driver for it.
Intermediate troubleshooting: I tried to use Airport Utility to check the AE. It timed-out when trying to retrieve the AE setup specifications. I tried to update the firmware (7.4.1 to 7.4.2); system timed-out after a very long several minute "search for new version of the firmware."
Apparent solution: (any of the following may have made the difference - sorry not to have been more systematic)
    a. I turned off AP on the iMac.
    b. I unplugged the AE base station for one minute+, then re-powered it.
    c. I opened my MBP with 10.5.7. Started up Airport Utility.
    d. I renamed the base station. Left all other settings alone.
    e. I installed the 7.4.2 firmware upgrade.
    f. I ran Preference Repairs on the iMac (though I had done this right after installation of 10.6)
    g. I turned on AP on the iMac.
Result: Almost immediate connection to AP, printer quickly began printing several of the test documents that must have been waiting in queue.
Too early to tell if I will have any further problems if if it permanently fixed.
Thanks to the several messages in both Printer and Network categories that suggested one or more of the above steps.

I hooked up my wife's Deskjet 5150 to my mac via USB. Since the 5150 does not have a driver from HP to work in SL. I decided to us the generic Gutenprint v5.2.3. For the heck-of-it, I picked, HP Deskjet 5550-Gutenprint v5.2.3. It prints. and the utility works, BTW, I am low on black ink.
I also tried the other printer drivers labeled "any printer name"-Gutenprint v5.2.3. and they all worked with the 5150.
So now that I know that the 5150's will work via USB with SL, I will now upgrade the other two laptops in my house to SL.
    How to:
    Turn printer on.
open System pref/ printer-fax/ add printer
    Select hp desktop 5100
(name: -- Change name if you want - I kept " hp deskjet 5100"
    Location: Your computer
Print Using: open dropdown box, select printer software. Type in: " Gutenprint" or "deskjet". I picked the HP Deskjet 5550-gutenprint v5.2.3. but I do not think it matters as long as it is a -gutenprint v5.2.3 driver.
    Select OK

  • Cannot connect to Airport Extreme. Did I buy wrong product?

    Hello
I am having a problem connecting my Airport Extreme Base Station. I have an iMac flat screen PowerMac G4 running Tiger 10.4.11. I purchased the Airport Extreme Base Station in hopes to connect this and other Mac computers in my house to a wireless network. I have a DSL connection through ATT using a SpeedStream 5360 Ethernet ADSL Modem. I have installed the software that came with the base station. I do have an airport card installed, but it is an older one, not the one that you can purchase through Apple now.
I have read and followed all of the directions in the setup manual. I have seen the base station from my computer, I have given it a name, password, etc... but when I try to finish the installation/setup process, the base station continues the flash an amber light. I have done everything I can think of including reseting the base station back to default settings and starting over. Once I got the base station to show a green light... my computer still couldn't connect. In fact it couldn't even see the base station at that point.
Should I have purchased a different base station for my computer, or could it possibly be my airport card? Another computer in my house (older iMac running 10.3) can read a neighbor's un-passworded base station, but can't connect to mine. Does that give any clues?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    JP

Just to verify... you have connected the Ethernet output of the SpeedStream ADSL modem to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
Have you also configured the AEBS to use the correct parameters to connect to your ISP?
