OS Lion is a total mess

Why do Apple think its clever to upgrade their OS only to leave us all in a mess. I see pages and pages of complaints on these discussion boards.
I upgraded only because of my email account didn't work without it. Now I have so many issues, and please don't tell me its not because of Lion.
1- Wireless works only sporadically, I can never get on line via Safari, Email, or refresh my Podcasts, If I have my iPad (without Lion upgrade) next to me that works fine, but my MacPro takes 10 minutes of rebooting and trying to establish my wireless network, it's a total mess
2 - Time Machine keeps failing, I have to reboot my ex HD over and over again.
3 - Syncing my iPhone and iPad especailly photos to iPhoto constantly fails.
For a number of years I had everything working fine, Lion comes along, and now its like working with a computer in the early 90's, full of problems.
How can I remove Lion. I'll simply do without iCloud.

If after having done all this the problems remain, then post back and I or someone else will take you through the next steps.
It's not because of Lion.

I was wondering if somebody could give me some guidance please?
I bought an N73 in September after much research and a lot of deliberating, I decided to purchase one (via O2 in England) even though i had heard lots of unhappy people claiming the phone had ruined their life etc due to its software faults.
I haven't updated my phone yet since buying it mainly due to being put off by the number of NEW problems the updates can cause.
I dont have any major problems with my phone, its got a bit slower with time and the camera isnt very quick when uploading and sometimes switches off (but i think its to do with the slide mechanism on the back), anyway i would be grateful if you would give me your honest opinion as to whether i should upgrade to the latest firmware or not!

I've managed to get back to Pages 4.3 and delete the downgrade Pages 5, which makes a total mess of any doc prepared with it, but how to I get back to the old version of Pages on my iPad so that I can work while I am away from home.

Thanks for your help. What is really irritating is that Apple give a big hurray about what they have added as "new" in Pages 5 (most of it pretty useless) without telling you of the myriad things they have deleted. If they had shown the list your gave the link to, I doubt may regular users would risked going to Mavericks with its auto upgrade. My partner got the message in time and is sticking with the earlier operating systems and Pages on Mac and iPad. Lucky girl.
I have found a way to use my iPad to add chapters written while on the move to reports on my iMac Pages 4.3. If I write it on the new Pages on the iMac (don't seem to be able to revert there), the send the report as an email in WORD format (not Pages) and download it in the Text Editor, then cut and paste into the story on the iMac. Hardly elegant but it works.

Rendering of tab row and pages is totally messed up when I add/remove/scroll through tabs

After upgrading to 4b9 from 4b8, the rendering is totally messed up, whenever I add, remove or simply scroll through the tab row (if I'm calling it correctly). The tab row basically disappears and at least 5 seconds to come back, while lots of flashing and buggy behavior. During this time the rendering of the main page is also messed up.
After it finishes rendering, the main page could still be in a bad state. At which I have to switch tabs or scroll the main page, to force a re-draw of the main page, to get the rendering looking correct.
The only clue I have is that I have lots and lots of tabs open. And it looks like when I'm on the first few tabs it doesn't happen as badly.. This worked perfectly on 4b8.

I'm sorry to hear that you have so many issues. What version of Firefox were you using before?
The double title bar issue has been identified as an issue with the Tax Mix Plus extension but it doesn't affect everyone, it's an interaction with something else (not exactly clear what, although Norton Toolbar was mentioned in one thread).
There is a new version available that you could try. If Firefox is stable enough to do it...
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
If your beta version won't update, you could try installing [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ from the add-ons site].
More generally, could I suggest disabling as many extensions as you can live without for 24 hours, and re-enable them gradually? This should help isolate interactions between them. As you know, you can do that here:

Finally, regarding your old session, if you haven't closed Firefox, you might find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. To easily access that folder, try
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Grab a copy of that file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Got to run, but if you find one with an appropriate date, someone can help you restore it.

Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

A TOTAL MESS: Duplicated contacts

Hi folks, I have iOS5 on my iPad and syncing on with my Snow Leopard Macs and Mobile Me.
THIS SYSTEM IS A TOTAL MESS. The first thing that happened with enabling mobile me/ cloud with my iPad is that it wiped out ALL My Contacts. I recovered them from a back up but now I'm getting all sorts of duplicate Contacts and I cannot tell which is what culprit. The whole poing of syncing is to keep everything the SAME. This CLoud thing is NOT ready for prime time. How do I prevent this mess from taking place???

Go to www.MobileMe.com and try to login, if you get told that you can't because your account moved to iCloud that is the first question answered, so if that is the case go on to www.iCloud.com and try to login there, if you can you should check that your contacts are there, post back.
PS iCloud came online on Jun 6 2011, so you could not have done this "6 months ago"

Envy TouchSmart m6-k025dx Sleekbook Win 8 recovery with totally messed up hard drive?

I made a recovery flash drive when I first got my Envy. Now, after totally messing up the hard drive and being unable to recover Windows 8 (not 8.1) with the flash drive, I've reformatted the drive and loaded the Windows 10 Tech Preview (which seems to be working quite well). However, Tech Previews don't last forever, and I'd really like to get back Win 8. I still have the recovery flash drive, but there's obviously a problem with the recovery image.
Does anyone know if a generic recovery image is available anywhere?

Since you say that your recovery media is not good, you can always try to get it direct from HP.

My screen is totally messed up when I put my screen in different positions.

Parts fail - there's likely nothing that you did to make the machine fail. Good thing you've that homeowner's insurance - I have an accidental damage rider on my renter's insurance. Something like $6 a month for up to $10,000 in coverage.
Get the to an Apple Store or AASP... they'll be able to fix it.

Some shortcuts are a total mess in CS 5.1 on Lion

The Title pretty much says it all.. The Dynamic Brush Resize and the HUD colour picker to mention but two... When the resize shortcul works (CTRL + OPT + Click-drag) it only works for a minute or two and after that moves the art board all round the monitor... very intermittent and buggy! I had hoped that the 10.7.2 update would fix the problem but no chance. Likewise it seems I have to hold down CTRL + OPT + CMD to bring up the HUD...
On Snow Leopard I run CS 5 nd it runs perfectly... only need hold down CMD to call up the HUD
but that said, these hard-wired shortcuts are a joke in their own right... why no option for users to configure the shortcuts?
Complete mess...I have to exclusively paint on Snow Leopard (my home machine) or use painter on Lion where there are no such issues...
Lion has been out a while now... surprised this issues has not been addresses if indeed it has even been raised at all before now!
- tested in both 32 bit and 64bit mode...
In it's current state on Lion, Photoshop is pretty much uselesss to me as a painting tool - please fix!
PS - I have reset preferences, re-installin photoshop etc.... It's obviously a not playing nice issue between OS Version and PS...

Found last night that after the latest re-install that my save for web and devices opption had gone KIA so had ro re-install yet again... still the same... seems I have to have about 20 move shortcuts whether or not I want them...one will do thanks...spacebar!

Help - Lion "custom access" permissions mess

I should start with an apology... I know there are a lot of threads that dance around this very issue, but it's so much I can't make sense of it.
So I'm asking anew...
Here's the situation: After months of persuassion, I finally talked my wife into letting me upgrade her Macbook from Snow Leopard to Lion. After installing, I then ran software update and installed everything else recommended. Reboot and everythign seemed to go fine, but then when I tried to delete a few PowerPC apps, the computer kept asking for her password.
Wanting to find out why on earth I had to retype the password with every toss of a file, I looked online and found someone suggesting I had to log her out as an admin and then log back in. Why that would work, I don't know, but I tried it. Big mistake.
When I tried to log her back in to make her an admin again, I couldn't get the computer to accept her password. So I then logged out and tried to log back in with my admin account which is set up on the same computer. That worked to get me in, but still wouldn't allow me to upgrade her to an admin in the system prefs.
So I THEN found this "resetpassword" trick using the Lion Recovery partition and terminal. I did that and was able to restore her password and while there, I also "reset to default ACLs and Permissions" or whatever it says inside this utility, with the logic that repairing permissions has always been a decent failsafe fix.
Okay... after a reboot and we're back in... and I run into a new problem with not having permission to do much of everything.
So, I open the "Get Info" on the hard drive to look at the permissions at the bottom of the info window. It says I have "read only" access. I figure this must be an error so, perhaps foolishly (or should I say probably foolishly), I grant Read & Write access across the board, so it reads like this:
System - Read & Write
Wheel - Read & Write
everyone - Read & Write
And then, don't cringe, I apply to all enclosed items.
When this is done, I rebooted to the Lion Recovery partition and ran the Disk Utility "repair permissions" there, too.
Upon reboot... I remember Keychain First Aid and run that too. It has errors to fix but says it was able to repair them too.
Right now... it all appears to be working fine, though it says I have "custom access" in the Get Info window for my HD.
However, I can't shake the nagging feeling that I've just used a flamethrower to clean up the living room.
For instance, I look now on my own Macbook and see that "wheel" and "everyone" in the Get Info window and see it's Read Only. And yet, I have no permissions problems right now at all.
(Update: I tried setting hers back to match mine in the same way (via the Get Info window, apply, disk utility, reboot, etc.) and the permissions problems all came back. So I went and made it Read & Write for everyone again. However, this just can't be right.)
Can anybody tell me (in easy terms, please) what I can do to get it back to what it should be?
I've seen notes on a program on xnation.com that "fixes ACLs"... and a few posts with Terminal commands... but I'm hesitant to borrow somebody else's solution, just in case it's not so good of a fit or if I don't understand it.
What do you think?

I've never heard of it. You already know how to reset user permissions.
if the system seems to be working fine, does that mean something is still broken/in danger of corrupting or something?
You set wide-open permissions on all files. That's insecure, and some things won't work at all, maybe not anything you use.

Notifications in ML is a Total Mess !

After what seems an age on the phone with 1stnd and 2nd level Apple support and hours of testing, I'm getting close to demanding a refund and a return to LION. Notifications was one of the big selling points in ML (and for me), hoping to unify all my iOS awareness.
Issues I found within the first 30 minuts of installing ML for the first time: (Apple have acknowledged and confirmed some of these issues)
1. It makes no difference whether you turn on or off notifications in your System Prefs.. You'll recieve messages whether you like it or not!
2. Mail notifications, these tend to notifiy you only when they seem to want to! Its totally a hit or miss afair!
3. The Second level Apple Support engineer has confirmed there are issues with Mail Notifications! (thats putting it very mildly!)
4. iMessage will notify you on ALL messages you've previously sent on other iOS devices and not just pick up where you left off (like it should be doing). This is a major f+++++g pain in the *** as I often have long conversations with clients on my iPhone/Pad. Then when I log on to my MacBook, I get a billion message alerts going mental on the right-side of my screen for a following half-hour whether I want them there or not!

Mail on Mountain Lion is a total shambles....

I am trying to decide to switch to Mail from Outlook and my first foray into the latest version of Mail on Mountain Lion suggests that it is a total shambles..
I cannot get a consist view in my inbox of messages received, although if i go to the iCloud.com it all seems fine. I have some simple rules set up to identify messages and copy them to local folders on the MAC and i am getting inconsistent results. For example i have 5 messages coming in from the same sender. My rules are set up to copy all of these messages to a local folder on my Mac, only 2 out of the 5 messages are being identified and copied.
I have another rule that copies other messages to another local folder if they are not recognized as being a member of a particular group and none of these are being recognized and copied.
Providing feedback to Apple on Mail also seems a joke as they are only interested in you allowing them to access certain data about your confignuration......
Anyone suggest an alternative to mail and Outlook?
