OS Mavericks has disabled Airplay mirroring on my Mid 2010 MBP, on all apps except iTunes. WHY???!!!

A major function of my computer has now been disabled - not because the MBP cannot run it (as proven by Mountain Lion and current iTunes functionality) which is now, in my opinion, rendering the 3 year old computer 'not fit for purpose'!!
I can't even stream the BBC iPlayer from safari onto my v3 Apple TV!!!
(one of many things I could do with OS Mountain Lion)
Apple, please rectify this quickly.

It sounds like you are not seeing the AirPlay mirroring icon on your MacBook Pro after upgrading to Mavericks. I found an article with steps you can take when you do not see the AirPlay icon. I've had this problem ever since I was at my friend's house- she has Apple TV- and my iPad connected automatically. So, I have no idea why any of the practical solutions that people think of are not options BUT, in terms of just getting it done, I did figure out a way. The key for me was getting near another Apple TV. I was out of town so I took my iPad to another friend's house who also has TV. Once I was logged onto their wireless network (the same network that their Apple TV is on-- that's how it connected in the first place), then the Airplay icon and options showed up from the bottom-draw menu and I was able to make sure that mirroring was turned off from the Apple TV section and to make sure the selection was on iPad instead. Problem solved. Now whether or not this will stay the same (rather than me having to make sure it stays at this setting everytime I link up to a network that has an Apple TV on it) I don't know. So my advice is find someone with Apple TV and connect to their network with your iPad and then change it.

By all means get iLife but just for the record you don't HAVE to use Apple's photo application;
there are many more around, quite a lot of them free.

Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

It sounds like you would like to open another tab in Safari without closing the ones you already have open. The + symbol you are looking for to open another tab is in the upper right hand corner in Safari on the iPad using iOS 7.

Mavericks has broken Airplay from iOS 7 iMac

When I had iOS 6/7 on my iPad and iPhone, I could use Airplay from my iPad or iPhone to my iMac, no problem.
Since updating to OS X Mavericks, I can Airplay from all of these devices to Apple TV, but not from either iOS device to my iMac (which is late 2011, so this should be possible). It worked that way prior to upgrading.
Anyone having the same problem? Any solutions?

I can't install Mavericks on the new SSD in my mid-2010 iMac

I recently had my old 500 GB hard drive swapped out for a new 480 GB SSD on my mid-2010 iMac. I made a flash drive into an OSX Mavericks installer per instructions from online tutorials. With the flash drive inserted, I formatted the new SSD in disk utility and then selected it to install Mavericks. However, I can't complete the installation, which is supposed to take 26 minutes, because the screen goes black midway through. I tried this twice and the second time moved the mouse periodically to make sure that the computer wasn't going to sleep. Same thing happened. Installer says that the installation can be recovered, but it will not complete installation. Any advice much appreciated!

Mavericks has disabled volume control for mouse and headphones

Since updating to Mavericks, my mouse (Mad Catz MMO7) has lost the ability to control volume (all other features like mission control still work). Also my Bose QC 15 headphones lost the ability to control volume as well. Is there some kind of accessability option that needs to be enabled or is this just a bug?

Sometimes my Volume controls will stop working and I'll have to chill for a second, then try to move the volume (with my keyboard) in the opposite direction I was just trying to go on my mouse, and after a few tries, it'll work. Try that.

Airplay mirroring for mac 2010 and under !!!!

I just installed OS X Mountain Lion and trying to use airplay mirroring from my mid 2010 and i found that apple disable this fueture for under 2011.
I wander why is apple does't care about all customers, only cares about the customers money. I am very disappointed that mirroring is not supported on my mac.

Airplay Mirroring in Mountain Lion

I have just installed osx Mountain Lion and trying to use airplay mirroring from my mid 2011 MBP to my ATV2. When activating airplay, I get sound to my tv but no picture, any help please???

So far to me this looks like the biggest bait and switch in history - - maybe bigger than the Madoff fraud. Apple NEVER ANYWHERE said there were system requirements for this before they released it.
Apple is CRAZY for doing this since the primary interest in Airplay is to use it for Powerpoint slides in offices and get rid of the cables.
We bought 5 Apple TV's in anticipation of this launch, now less than half of our Macs work with it.
We are a software company that actually does some Mac products. We are OUTRAGED at this ridiculous marketing ploy.
For those of us that have been around the comptuer business for a while, we know that some 27 year old harvard MBA product manager at Apple convinced Apple management that by not supporting older machines they would "create more Mac sales by generating upgrade business because this is such a hot feature".
I recommend airparrot.com. And DON"T UPGRADE YOUR MAC.

Airplay mirroring sound but no picture

I've searched through the forums and have found several threads on mirror issues with airplay but none of the answers helped me get up and running.
I have reviewed the airplay guides on apple.com as well as the trouble shooting guides for airplay mirroring with no success. I believe all my system components meet the requirements but I still get sound with no picture when using desktop mirroring.
I am using:

I have turned on airplay on my apple tv and restarted / reconnected it several times. I have also restarted my mabook pro several times. Airplay mirroring works fine on my iPad i just can't seem to get picture from my macbook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iTunes airplay still works as it always has.
AirPlay Mirroring (the ML-added feature) requires the latest Intel hardware (specifically the Intel HD Graphics subprocessor). This hardware includes a feature called QuickSync Video (similar to HDMI-over-wifi).
There is no 'almost' have it. Either you do or you do not. It wasn't an arbitrary decision by Apple to deny older Macs of this hardware feature.

Problem with AirPlay mirroring with iTunes

Hi,
I have a new iMac (purchased April 2013) running OS X Mountain Lion and am having issue with AirPlay mirroring with iTunes via Apple TV 3 running the latest update.
I have no problem streaming ITunes music (audio) to my Apple TV 3 via AirPlay.
However, when I enable Airplay Mirroring to ATV3 (either via System Prefs or via the Airplay Mirroring menulet icon at upper right of the screen), 2 things happen:
1. My iMac screen gets mirrored to my HDTV via ATV3 as expected (good)
2. Music (audio) stops playing via ATV3 (bad) - this is the key issue I am trying to resolve
When i disable Airplay Mirroring, I am able to again play music via ATV3.
Am I missing a setting somewhere to enable BOTH video and audio Airplay mirroring from my iMac via ATV3?

AirPlay mirroring wont turn off

After using AirPlay mirroring on my mid 2011 mac mini it wont stay turned off. It turns back on by itself after about 5 minutes. I have tried putting my Apple TV to sleep, but it still turns back on.

Scratch that last sentence. It doesn't connect when my Apple TV is in sleep mode.
