OS Mavericks won't Install on Mac Mini

Computer was purchased end of 2009/2010 and meets minimium Hardware Specs.
Currently have MAC OS X 10.6.8 installed (Completely Updated)
Processor Speed 1.83 Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory is 4GB
Open/Free HD Space available +40GB (80 GB Total)
Any thoughts on why its not downloading?  Getting error message that says system is not compatable with OS X

Just tried that and it still wouldn't work.  The exact error message I get is:
"We could not complet your update. OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer"
Not sure why it can't since everything is up to date.

  • Mavericks won't install on Mac Mini Server

I am trying to install Mavericks on a headless Mac Mini Server. After I enter my admin password, the install stops with the error:
An error occured while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.
I have verified the disk - no issues
    I repaired disk permission
    I rebooted the server
    No luck

Found a fix. I installed the 10.8.5 combo update then tried again. It is working now.

  • Mountain Lion Won't Install on Mac Mini (Late 2014)

My relatively new Mac Mini (Late 2014) is running Yosemite.
I have purchased Mountain Lion in order to run a favoured version of sound editing software which is not compatible with either Yosemite or Mavericks.
Attempts to download my purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store result in the following message "We could not complete your purchase. OSX Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer".
The 'Learn More' button takes me to the support article which states that Mountain Lion requires hardware of Mac Mini (Early 2009 or newer).
In terms of software, it requires that Lion is already installed.
My query is do I need to purchase Lion and install it before I can install Mountain Lion?
My concern with this is that Lion itself requires Snow Leopard itself installed on the machine!
    Cheers,
    Lou.

That is correct. Versions of OSX prior to Yosemite do not have the divers to support the 2104 Mac Mini.
You may be able to run ML as a virtual machine (VM) using a VT app like the free VirualBox and paid parallels.
However, you may not be able to get a copy of ML to install unless yo have another Mac that allows you to download the installer.

  • Win7 won't install in Mac mini SL w/no optical drive, crashes when accessing external HD

I've been trying to install win7 on my Mac Mini with 10.6.8 that doesn't have an optical drive.  I've been able to do the bootcamp partition just fine but when it goes to restart into the windows partition with the win7 disk in the external HD, my screen goes grey, then a green with purple border and then black.  I have to reboot and if I press the alt/opt key, I'm able to get into OSX again.  The research I've done shows I need to create a .iso file which I did with disk utility.  I created all types of .iso files, read only, compressed and dvd.cdr files.  Nothing is working.  Bootcamp is not recognizing any of the 5 thumb drives I've put the .iso files on as I read some drives aren't able to be recognized.  The external HD works as I reinstalled SL just fine using it.  My research also shows that win7 won't install from an external HD.  So I'm at a a loss as to how to proceed from here.  I went into my old windows machine to try to create a bootable thumb drive after I install win7 there but the Dell is so old, I don't have a DVD drive in it, only a CD drive.  And if I buy a downloadable version of win7 I still need to get it to a DVD or a thumb drive to get it installed.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I called Apple and their support ended at "well, we did our job by getting you to the BootCamp partition" which is a crock.  It's their design to take out the optical drive and now it's everyone else's problem!  Sorry, I know I've got attitude but I'm so frustrated!!
Thanks in advance!  I'm posting this here and in bootcamp discussion.

Hatter helped me out without even knowing he helped me out.  In cruising through the archives, he advised another problem seeker to unplug everything except 1 monitor, a mouse and a keyboard.  Which I did and that solved my problems at last.  I also burned my .iso file to a DVD with my MBP and it was able to be read by the external HD.  So keep searching the forums peeps, your answer may be there after all!

  • Snow Leopard simply won't install on Mac Mini

After failing to upgrade over Leopard 10.5 on my Mac Mini (it has 2Gb Ram), I did a reinstall of the original software, erasing the disk and starting fresh. It's now at 10.4.5 with all of the most recent updates installed, and 59.9 Gb memory free on the hard drive, no partitions or peripherals other than the mouse and keyboard; processor 1.66.
The Snow Leopard disk is brand new out of the box. At each attempt at reaches to about '39 minutes left' and then the 'Installation Failed -- could not copy support files' or something like that. The same thing happened when I tried a friend's Family Pack Snow Leopard disk, so it's unlikely that it is the disk itself. And since the reinstall of the original software went fine, the problem doesn't seem to be the optical drive. After about 5 tries, I never get beyond this specific point, and have to start over.
I ran the 'verify disk' utility and it reported that everything seems to be OK with the hard disk.
Any clues as to how to get this to work? I wish I could simply install the 10.5 Leopard, but that disk has gone missing.

That would indeed be the most logical reason for failure, and close inspection of the disk shows some blemishes that were not there at the start of the process. But another attempt to install from another disk -- a 'Family Pack' disk -- produced exactly the same failure at exactly the same point in the process. A firewire option will have to wait for another day, since this one is pretty much shot at this point.
    Thanks

  • Windows7 won't install on mac mini

Attempt to install Win7 full version with boot camp alway ends with black screen and blinking bar cursor upper left corner.  This is on a new Mac Mini with super drive DVD.  Using Option key on new start up displays the Windows DVD as a boot option.  When selected, the screen turns black and displays "Unable to find Bootmgr.  Any ideas, suggestions?

  • Tried to install maverick-won't install on mac hd because of time machine

I have tried to install the maverick os.  It downloades but when I have to select a disk to install it on I cannot choose my mac hard drive because it has time machine????  I then installed it on a 32gig thumb drive and I was able to install it but I want to  upgrade my current os  on my mac hd with its applications and I also use Boot Camp.  I do not want to jeperdize my current system with the update.
    Thanks,

First, see the heading "What to do if the installer warns that no Recovery System can be created" in this support article. If you use Boot Camp, back up and delete the Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant. Try the installation again.

  • 10.5.2 won't install on mac mini power pc G4 - any fellow sufferers?

it just goes back to the grey screen after telling me to restart then holds at the grey screen with the dk grey icon and the wheel - for as long as i'll let it... current record about 3.5 hours... then restarts as easily as ever when i do a shut down using the back button...

It is helpful to have as much background information as possible, but from what you say it implies the system was working correctly in 10.5.1 and perhaps failed at the first reboot (and then all subsequent reboots) after the 10.5.2 update?
If that's the case, then it is probable that the 10.5.2 update did not correctly install - which is often due to pre-existing problems, a fact which Boece is hinting at in the question about how 10.5 was first installed on the system, since there were a number of issues that have been regularly reported with the default 'upgrade' install of Leopard.
That said, it is important to realise that the use of the power button to power-down the system is also capable of causing corruption on the drive or in the drive's directory structure. This is particularly true if power is switched off while the drive is writing data - or attempting to, even if it has stalled. That isn't to say you have much choice, but it does mean your first step at this stage would ideally be to insert your leopard install disc, and reboot, holding the C key down to force the system to boot to the optical drive. Then, after choosing your language, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the internal drive on the left, then click Repair Disc'. This will examine the internal drive for data corruption. If it reports OK, then the drive is healthy and the problem lies purely in a damaged MacOS install. If the drive reports errors and corrects them, try rebooting normally since that may have fixed the issue. If it reports 'error on exit' it means there's damage to the drive's directory structure which will either require a third-party utility such as DiskWarrior to fix, or an 'erase and install' of MacOS - which would wipe all your data unless it is backed up of course.

  • Mavericks won't install on newest mac mini fusion drive

I have a mac mini, latest version.  I have a fusion drive.
Mavericks won't install on that drive.  I get this message:
This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme. Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme. Select the Disk, choose the
partition tab, select the volume Scheme and then click Options.
Well, I did that, up to "choose the partition tab."  Then it says "you may only split this partition into two. To do this, click +."
I did that, and there were two partitions.  the only option left is to select apply, which I didn't.
The "options" were still greyed out.
    So now what?
    Thanks for any input.

Lion creates a recovery area with a minimal version of OS X and it may be unable to do so due to use over the years, and possibly other resizing operations (Boot Camp).  It could just need more space, if you only have less than 8gb free.  Lion shuffles and merges the two systems when it upgrades.  You can burn the image downloaded from App Store by finding the dmg file inside the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" bundle, dragging it into disk utility, then burning from there.
Otherwise, you can appropriate a MBR/BIOS formatted 4GB thumbdrive, 8GB of either EFI or MBR/BIOS thumbdrive, flash storage device, or external hard drive, and format it, using the restore operation through disk utility to copy the contents of the installer disk to the media.  Exposed via the alt key before the Apple logo, should show the bootable media, where you can format over the former installation.
As always, backup your files when upgrading.  I recommend if your installion is over a year old to wipe and upgrade if you can't make otherwise the media bootable, using your 10.6 recovery dvd.
If you cannot find an external medium to backup your files before the upgrade, if you need to format via disk utility (Through 10.6 media), you can consider Dropbox as an option (2GB free account).
It's not uncommon for the partition to simply refuse operations, including upgrades and resizing.

  • I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Intel graphics
    Macmini5,1
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Radeon graphics
    Macmini5,2
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
    Mac mini Server (Mid 2011)
    Macmini5,3
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)

Not sure what the B means.
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up

Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up elements receive message “Some ot the application components are missing from the Application directory. Please reinstall the application.” How do I correct this problem without disturbing application in main user account?

Brooks lansing if you create a new Administrator account does the same issue occur?  If so then it is likely that there is a file permission failure and file permissions have been set for the existing Users instead of the groups they belong to.
Have you removed and reinstalled Photoshop Elements 11?  This may reset the file permissions to the correct state to allow it to work under new accounts.
