OS Platform for EP 7.0

Hello,
we are running EP6.0 SP16 on AIX 5.3. In the past we suffered a lot of performance problems due to bad implementation of JRE by IBM. Now we plan to upgrade our portal system landscape to EP 7.0. Does anybody have expirience running EP7.0 on AIX?

kindly follow the SAP Note 723909 very carefully for JRE installation & JDK values.
kindly follow every SAP Note stated in this master note for JVM settings on AIX.

     What is the best way to install the WL 8.1 Platform for multiple
developers on a single UNIX machine? These developers may start
concurrent instances.
     The problems I see are that the log files generated by Workshop would
be shared among concurrent users, permissions would need to be set so
that the user that is running the instance that creates the log files
will need to create the file with permissions that everyone can use. Are
there any other issues to doing this?
     I could not find the information on this in the documentation.

I was referring in particular to the logs that are created by Workshop
itself (in the workshop directory). It creates workshop.log and netui.log.

If the developers are each going to start their own server instances then
there should be no issues.
The best option for you is to create multiple domains for each developer.
They will share the same workshop installation, but they will each have
their own instances.

Just bought Creative Suite 5 for Windows, but I want to install it on a Mac. Can I change the platform for a serial number?

As the title says I want to change the platform for a serial number so I can install it on my Mac. I know from searching on Adobe's help pages that you can request a platform or language swap, but the link they instruct you to use has been under maintenance since october last year? Is there another way around this? Thanks for all your help.

CS5 does not qualify for a platform swap. Adobe allows platform changes for the latest version only, which is CS6. The information regarding that is available thru the foillowing page...

If you just purchased the software then you should be able to return it to whatever third party vendor sold it to you for an exchange for the Mac version.

As long as your license supports both platforms you should only have to download the Mac version and install/activate using your serial number. If you need help finding a link to download the file, please indicate the PSE version you need.

I use shockwave flash in a platform for my work and every day it seizes up. I have to reboot the p.c. and reload the platform. Help !!!

I utilize a trading platform for my work on a daily basis. They use shockwave flash in this platform. Every day it slows and then seizes up everything. I have to reboot my p.c. manually and then reload the platform. I have had my p.c. checked, talked to the IT people for the platform and everything comes back to flash. I've even uninstalled and re installed the program. It is a very annoying and causes major problems.

I believe that Oracle is developed and coded on a Solaris
platform and then ported to other operating systems. If that is
the case, you can assume that Solaris is the best platform or at
least the safest in terms of performance and risk.
If anyone knows anything to the contrary, pls correct me.

I have personally seen most of the customers are using windows as thier OS for Portal. When it comes to R3 BW SRM CRM and other application,its UNIX.
Interms of Performance , Windows is not right choice . I am not sure about life cycle management for the Windows.
A big advantage of using Windows hosting is that.NET technologies: ASP. NET, VB.NET easily works on these Hosts. If, the website is built using these technologies then opting a Windows server is most suitable
Microsoft Sharepoint is yet another application, which needs exclusive, Windows hosting. The only option available for users using this application is Windows server

Your opinion - why should we (or should we not) use flash as our primary platform for video delivery?

Hi,
I work at a college that is delivering courses online at a
distance. Currently, we are using a Windows Media Streaming server
as our main platform for video. We definitely want to be able to
stream, as our students are from all over the world and have many
different connection speeds - from t3 all the way down to dial up.
With Windows Media Streaming, we can configure the video at
multiple bit rates, within a single file, to address these various
speeds. The file is delivered at a speed appropriate to each user's
connection. We can also choose to force authentication for any
given fie, while still having most of our video clips available to
anyone.
We are currently evaluating our setup and looking into
various options. A lot has been said about Flash. I would love to
hear pros and cons for using flash as our primary platform. I have
heard that one advantage to Flash is that there is a way of setting
up your files, so that no player is needed. I would also like to
know if that is true. I sense that it is not - I had removed flash
from my computer, and could not play anything with a swf extension.
As I would suspect, my computer had no idea what it was without the
flash player installed.
I have also heard that the concept of streaming is inherent
within the Flash technology - that Flash files will automatically
stream in a similar manner to our current setup, where the speed
and flow of the delivery is dependent on the user's connection. Can
anyone comment on that?
Additonally, we would need a separate server, as we do not
want anything conflicting on the server where we house our Course
Management System. Is there anything to be aware of with this type
of setup?
Some of the video files that we use would need to be limited
to a certain audience - (due to copyright and contractual issues).
Is there a way for Flash to handle such issues? With Windows Media
STreaming server, we can opt to have any file require a username
and password. this requires manual addition of these credentials to
the server though, and is not a very efficient approach.

WAS Inst on the NetWeaver 7.2 platform for the Business Objects XI 4.0 SP1

I have tried to install the WAS on the NetWeaver 7.2 platform for the Business Objects XI 4.0 SP1.
Ok, more preciselly. I have tried to install SP1 for the Business Objects Enterprise XI 4.0. We have had a distributed installation. An application is under the Windows 2k8 R2 platform and the web server (WAS) is under the Unix, where runs the SAP NewWeaver 7.2 CE.
Installation of the SP1 on the application side has ran just fine. Installation of SP1 under Unix went fine as well till I tried to undeploy the previouse one WAS. At first it could not start, it could not find the java, even the wdeployGUI.sh should use its own java, while it happens. I have edited a profile of the appropriate user for using this "own" java. The same I had to do for the pearl. It ran, but It took a very long time - more than two hours. (We have experience from the base installation, that it supposed to be very quick.) So, I have killed three apropriate processes and wav, undeploying ended successfully.
Next, I started to deploy a new WAS. But it has been broken several times with the information (from the <INSTALL PATH>/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/wdeploy/logs/wdeploy.log), It could not reach the server with the error message: "Error occurred during the action deployall", "$". I am sure, the acess datas are correct.
Any ideas?
I thing there is some problem with the java and pearl settings. But I can not find relevant webappdeploy_unix document for the SP1, so I do not know, why the deploying could not start automatically as in the case of the base (non SP) installation.

Universe is an important part of the Semantic Layer, whether it is version 3.x or version 4.x of SAP BusinessObjects. In version 4.0 (officially known as BI 4.0), you will be using the new Information Design Tool to build universe. It is highly recommended for all of your presentation tools (i.e. WebI, Crystal, Xcelsius/Dashboard, etc) to go through the new Information Design Tool for data (including BW data).
The BI 4.0 Virtual Launch is scheduled on Feb 23. I suggest you to sign up at http://virtualevents.sap.com/business-analytics/login.aspx.
By the way, the SAP BusinessObjects does not have a version 3.2. The most current one is version 3.1. You might be confused with the FixPack which is now up to 3.4.

You don't. Platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to buy at least the CS6 upgrade and make the switch.

If you purchased a licensed version then you are limited to only one platform. A Cloud membership will allow you to have mixed platforms.

Best codec on Windows platform for archiving

What's your codec of choice (besides cineform) on the Windows platform for exporting a finshed copy of your project? Essentially this would be your master.

I use lossless UT codec .avi files for archived masters.

We are using 2008 R2 for LMS 4.0.1 - runs great - need loads of RAM and page file but we have not had many challenges. Java seems to run away with memory at times and we cycle out the services but it runs great.

Can we use Beehive as a collaboration platform for work with customers?
Yes, I know that Collaborative is not a CRM and it is primary intended for using between employee within a company.
But collaboration with customers is very important thing also.
In other words can Beehive collaboration platform be used for foundation of some infrastructure such as Metalink, with customer and employee access, role and user management, restricted access by user role (or user company) to address book, knowledge base, documents, etc.

Ok, if I have Extended-enterprise users, how I can set that only document A and document B can be accessed by user's which in customer organization? I think it's no different from any other case, you can create a workspace to contain the documents and add users, and only those users will be able to see the documents. You can control on a per-role basis or on a per-document basis who can do what with each document.
Is it possible to use some kind of label security within external user organization?Sensitivities are similar, in that they allow you to apply a named Sensitivity to a bunch of documents, and either add people that can see documents controlled by the sensitivity, or change the sensitivity so more people can see the documents controlled by that sensitivity. Check the Access Control section of the admin guide, it does a better job than i did of explaining.
Extended users will able to see only account with their company in Beehive address book or address book will not be accessible?This starts to sound a little like hosting / multi-tenancy etc. which beehive doesn't support currently.
If Beehive user catalog are synchronized with AD and external directory are used can we create ext user in Beehive?You can specify in the ldap profile you use to set up sync how to determine which AD users are ent users and which are ext (based on DN or attribute value).
