OS provisioning plug-in v6.0: Is it possible to provision OS on bare metal?
Hello all.
I've installed N1 sps + OS provisioning plug-in v6.0.
I can't create Sun ALOM Target.
The Run Plan needs already prepared Target Host.
Does it means that to install OS I already must have installed OS? It is very confusing.
Has somebody experienced such problem?
Thanks
Hi,
<p>
I found this confusing at first too. This link may help: <p>
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5114874<p>
There is a lot to set up. I was successful in earlier versions last year. I am attempting again with N1SPS 6.0, but cannot find the 6.0 or earlier 5.2.1 OSP plug-in in the Sun Download section.

Bare Metal Provisioning - physically needed machines
Hello together,
our company plans to use Bare Metal Provisioning soon.
We're thinking of the installation of the needed servers at the moment. According to the best practice guide, one needs a boot server, a stage server, a rpm repository and a software library.
In the document it's mentioned that oracle suggests to keep boot and stage server on one physical machine.
Can we also place the rpm repository or the software library (or both?) on this machine? Do we have any disadvantages when doing it this way? As servers are nothing cheap, we could save some money. But of course not if it would cause significant problems...
What do we have to consider about it?
Do you have any experience in consolidating those servers?
Thanks in advance,
RobertHi Robert,
If you have small number of targets, that would be find OMS and Reporsitory on same box. But for in future considering growth you may require distributed architecture. -
Time Machine shows a backup this morning at 11:58 but I didn't have the external hard drive plugged in. How is this possible?
Because the drive was disconnected Time Machine made a local snapshot on your Mac.

Linux Bare Metal Provisioning with OEM Pack for Linux for RAC 11gGR2 OEL 5X
Hi,
Has anyone ever used the OEM Pack for Linux to provision Bare Metal Linux servers?
See: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/omp_linux.html
We are thinking of using this tool to provision our Linux Servers, because we are UL-Customers with OEL, and this Tool is free of Charge for UL- Premier and Basic Limited Customers.
I have only found Documentation which seem to suggest that the OEM Linux Pack is supported with OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.4 and Oracle 10G ,
but i am not sure if this Pack is supported for use with OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.5 and Oracle RAC 11gR2.
I would appreciate your Help on this.
Regards,

I believe you need to add a few patchsets to get full provisioning support for Database 11gR2. There is a My Oracle Support article that lists all the recommended patches for Grid Control. -

Automated Plug-in Install? Is it Possible?
Hi there,
The problem I am facing is that I want to install the
Java Runtime Environment on a PC from a webpage,
although this is not the problem, I can do this quite
easilly..... What I want to know is if it is possible to
set up the Plug-in automatically after it installed?
See, I DON'T want the Plug-in to use the Browser
setting under the PROXIES tab. I am of course using
the JRE 1.4.0 Plug-in. I know how to do a silent install
and all, but shucks!!!! The Applet I am trying to run,
will be run in an Intranet environment, and I don't
want to tell each user to go to the Control Panel and
change the Plug-in settings. Anybody can help me??
Thanks in advance
Fernando de Bruyn.Hey, I am not too sure what you meant with deploying the plugin without a
internet connection. Although, I will show you how I have done it through a
intranet connection. First of all:
The plugin is saved on the webserver on a specified folder. Say in my case,
e:\InetPub\wwwroot\Process\j2re-1_4_0-win.exe
and then the webpage carying the applet looks like this:
<html>
<body>
<object
classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"
width = "100%"
height = "100%"
align = "middle"
codebase="http://Webserver/Process/j2re-1_4_0-win.exe">
<param name = CODE VALUE = "MyApplet" >
<param name = CODEBASE VALUE = "http://Webserver/Process/">
<param name = ARCHIVE VALUE = MyApplet.jar>
<param name = "type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
<param name = "scriptable" VALUE="true">
<param name = java_ARCHIVE VALUE = "MyApplet.jar">
</body>
</html>
Hope that helps
Fernando. -

Mirage 5.3.0 is now GA and live
What’s new in 5.3?
Administrators can perform bare metal provisioning on endpoints that do not have an operating system installed. Bare metal provisioning bypasses a full Windows installation (See Video).
Mirage supports managing multiple platforms, including Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS), POSReady 2009, and POSReady 7 operating systems.
Mirage supports automated backup and full disaster recovery for devices running Windows Embedded POSReady operating systems.
Administrators can perform OS migration operations using Mirage PowerCLI.
Administrators can automate endpoint provisioning and perform various CVD operations using Mirage API or Mirage PowerCLI.
The Mirage Web Management console has an Image Manager role. Users with the Image Manager role can perform the following role-based tasks:
Provision endpoints
Create and manage reference machines
Capture, assign, and manage base layers and application layers
Manage system tasks
The Web console for the Mirage Gateway server includes several features that enable a more efficient installation and configuration process.
Additional validations for importing certificates to ensure the certificates are correctly generated.
Administrators can provide a user name instead of the full LDAP path syntax for an LDAP bind user.
Administrators are prompted to change the default password for the Mirage Gateway server during the first login.
And many bugs fix which are elaborated in the release notes - https://www.vmware.com/support/mirage/doc/releasenotes-mirage53.html#resolved
What is Mirage?
Mirage provides next-generation image and application management for physical desktops and BYO devices
Dynamic layering and full system recovery ensure that IT can quickly and cost-effectively deliver, manage, and protect updates to operating systems and applications on endpoints at scale.
Designed for distributed environments, Mirage requires little to minimal infrastructure at branch sites, to drive down capital expenditures.
Mirage complements and extends PC Lifecycle Management tools, to drive down IT helpdesk and support costs.

I can see the new Web Image Manager role within the Mirage Console but there are no new options available on the Web Management Portal regarding
Provision endpoints
Create and manage reference machines
Capture, assign, and manage base layers and application layers
Manage system tasks
... our Web Management Portal build number is 5.3.0.31896
Looking forward hearing from you soon

Starting OEM page from plug-in
We are trying to start an OEM page from a button click of our plug-in page. Is it possible? Could you please help?
From the section 8.2.5 URL and 8.10.2 URL and Links we understand that we can show Other Enterprise Manager pages from our plug-in. But we could n't find any working examples. The document says that "The reference guide includes a complete list in the oracle.sysman.emx.Constants class of all page constants available and the corresponding parameters that must be specified to produce a URL.". But We could only find Constants.PAGE_AVAILABILITY constant in the Constants which is related with pages (Some other constants are there in the Constants class like AVAIL_AGENT_DOWN, JOB_REASSIGNED_STATUS. But those are not related to any page.)
Our question is it possible to show the Enterprise > Provisioning and Patching > Baremetal Provisioning page as per the above documentation.
Thanks in advance. -
Unable to Delete a Trail Plug In
Downloaded Magic Bullet Steady plug in trial version. There is no provision to delete - so I'm trying to locate it to simply delete it. I'm baffled. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

IPhone: Cannot select my provisioning profile - tried all suggestions
I am attempting to load an application onto an iPod Touch. I have followed the PDF document at the iPhone Program Portal to the letter, creating a development certificate with name and e-mail address that matches my agent information, a device profile, app IDs with several variations, including com.companyname.myapp, com.companyname.*, * and myapp, and provisioning certificates (one at a time) based on these.
Both the Apple WWDR certificate and my developer certificate are present in my keychain. It appears I have two keychains - system and login. I have loaded both certificates into one, the other or both keychains.
In XCode, my provisioning profile appears in the organizer, and also appears on the device. In the properties for my project I have set the bundle identifier to the matching variation of the app id used with the device profile, both with and without the Apple prepended identifier. Under the Code Signing Identity I have tried the default value, no value and "iPhone Developer: FirstName LastName."
I have removed all the components from the program portal and recreated them from scratch several times.
No matter what the permutation, my provisioning profile does not appear under the Code Signing Provisioning Profile key. Whether this field is left as the default or the name of my profile is forced in, XCode successfully builds the project with the device as a target, but upon trying to upload reports "an unexpected error 0xE8000001 during the install phase: Verifying application." I have restarted the device multiple times, without effect. I am never asked for a password to access my keychain.
I have read all the threads in the discussion groups on this topic, and tried their suggestions to no effect. I am using the latest version of the SDK (9M2199a), my iTunes is the latest released version (NOT the developer pre-release), the device is running the latest release version of the OS (2.0.1 - 5B108), and I am running the latest release version of Leopard (10.5.4).
Developer support recommended I file a bug report.
Does anybody have any further suggestions?1. You may have to rebuild your certificates and your provisions. Soemtimes it can be hit and miss even when followign the pdf.
2. If you already managed to get a copy of the app on the device delete it directly from the device. Sometiems the system throws an error if it can't delete it.
3. Certificates go in the login keys.
4. These days you can downlaod the providsion and drag it to iTunes in dock while your phone is plugged in.
(Have xcode off when you do this since it seems to cache data)
5. Check the console to make sure it's checked and for any error messages (minimal info)
6. Once you've installed the certificates and the provision shut down and restart.
7. There are 2 places to set the provision. Select the project (top level) on the left in xcode. Do a get info. iPhone Developer: Your Name (note the space after : This needs to match EXACTLY to your certificates which shoudl show up in Keychain Utility under Keys.
8. Once you have the Developer name then select the provision. If there's none available check mobile provisions in the library and make sure it got copied there.
9. The other place you need to set the provision is select target on left in xcode. Get Info. Set iPhone Developer: Your Name and set the provision popup.
10. Make sure to do a full clean and then rebuild. -
Documentation on N1 OSP plug-in
Hi, I am trying to figure out what to do next. I am trying to provision to bare metal via SPS OSP plugin via ALOM. I have installed SPS 5.2 MS and SPS 5.2 RA on different physical hosts. I have imported the OSP plug-in. I was able to setup a host record for the RA and prepare the host. Is there documentation on where to go from here?
Pete.Let me first describe some of the details about the OSP. It performs a lot of cr_cli in the background and this is done as root. So if you setup to run cr_cli with SSH then you need to allow to do SSH as the root account to run these commands.
<p>
Then the process is quite simple imo:
<p>
First if you follow the guide from docs.sun.com then it takes you through all the steps needed to install and configure this.
<p>
Using N1SM may be easier in one way but there are some limitations such as only allowing flash archives and not using JET for cusomized installs.
<p>
Here is a short recap on all the steps needed:
<p>
- Load the plugin <BR>
- Prep the hosts <BR>
- OSP Control Server <BR>
- OSP Subnets <BR>
(remeber to select IP network in the same space you intend to provisioning in)<BR>
- JET Solaris Image Servers <BR>
<BR>
After this you create the target where you enter how to access the ALOM, LOM, IPMI or whatever console you have, including IP, Login and Password.
<p>
Then you create profile and select which JET modules to use, and after that you are all set to go and to click <b>Provision OS</b>
<P>
The docs can be found here:<BR>

Error while Provisioning a user to Exchange:Configuration OIM 9.1 & JBOSS
Hi,
I am facing the below error while provisioning a user to Exchange. The Resource gets provisioned. But inside the resource, two tasks (Create User & Set Mailbox) are rejected. When i retry these tasks, the Resource status is set to Revoked in the Resource Profile of OIM. The AD Provisioning is working fine. There are 2 AD IT Resources here. Database is Oracle 10g.

OIM 9.1 AD Account Provisioning
Has anyone ran into the scenario where you go to provision an AD account and the process fails because the account already exist on the target which results in the resource status remaining as "provisioning". I expected that status to change to "provisioned" once a recon was ran which would link the account to the OIM user but it didn't. The recon linked the account but from the user's resource profile you can see that it didn't.
first of all when the account with the same id is found on Ad, it may necessarily not be that of the user unless you have ascertained that. If you want the adapter to return a success what you should have done is mapping the user_already exists retrun code to C for completed instead of an R for rejected, which is why the resource is going into a provisioning status.
BTW does your create user task or whatever task last gets executed before the provisioning is deemed as complete have the task to object status mapping set to C=Provisioned?
What you will need to do is, revoke the AD resource from the user's resource profile list and then run the recon, the account should now be linked to the user if the owner matching rules match up to the identity in oim.
