OS Update lost purchased ringtone

IPhone 3gs, just updated the phone to OS 5 and iTunes to 10.5.0.142 and my purchased custom ringtone does not appear on the phone.  The tone shows up on ITunes Library under ringtones, and I do have Tones selected to sync.  HELP??

Hi,
I had the same problem but what I did was go into the tones section of itunes, select one of my purchased tones and got info, then deleted all of the info apart from the track name, synced all tones with my iphone 4s and they are now on there.
Hope this helps
Well, this solved it.  Apparently changing the info, changed the file, and enabled the corrupted files on the iphone to be overwritten.  Clever - thank you.  A more "above board" approach would be preferred.  But hey, clever, thanks.

Sync them from a computer, or use these instructions to redownload them through the iCloud if doing so is free in your country.

  • Lost Purchased Ringtones with iOS 5

Iknow there have been a lot of issues coming up today with iOS 5 but I have a new one here and I am looking for some help.  I went to set my ringtone and realized none of my purchased ringtones are listed.  I tried going through iTunes on the phone to get them back, but they aren't listed in the purchased area and if I look them up in the iTunes store it doesn't show them like I purchased them.  Please help.  Thanks in advance

    Hey everyone,
I have a ringtone that I downloaded (not purchased) that wasn't showing up on my phone, but was showing up in iTunes. I tried the uncheck/sync/check/sync routine, but that didn't work.
So here's an alternative that worked for me, and I hope works for anyone else with a similar problem.
    1) Delete the ringtone from the phone.
    2) Delete the ringtone from the appropriate folder in iTunes (iTunes Music > Ringtones).
    3) Add the ringtone file back to the Ringtones folder in iTunes.
    4) Drag the ringtone to the iPhone icon in the iTunes sidebar.
    5) Sync your phone.
    6) Check your ringtone list in your phone's Ringtones window from Settings. It SHOULD be there now.
Please note this applies to downloaded or self-made ringtones. I've never purchased ringtones from iTunes, so I don't know if those are handled differently. Still, I hope this helps if the re-syncing option doesn't pan out!

  • "Lost" purchased ringtone on iPhone 5

I have two purchased ringtones on the iphone in iTunes and created several via garage band on my mac.  The two purchased ringtones initially bhaved and were available as one would expect.  They are now "missing" on the iphone.  They do not show up in the tones list.
In iTunes on my mac under the iphone device, they show up in Tones, checked, with an exclamation point on the left of the check mark.  They will not play.  They will not delete.
In iTunes on my mac they show up under purchased and under Tones and play fine.
The two ringtones do not show up as purchased on the iphone in the iTunes app.
Note: For a couple days the purchased ringtones were available and played fine.  The tones originating from Garage Band continue to be fine.  I did set up backing up my iphone to my mac in the interim.  The iphone is sync'd with iTunes.
What does the exclamation point mean?
Any thoughts on how to make these 2 tones available on the phone?
    Thank You!

  • Lost Purchased Ringtones

I need some help. I went to hook my phone up to my computer to add some songs. When I did I backed my phone up. After backing it up I went to add my songs. When I got done my contacts were gone. And so were all the ringtones I purchased. How do I  get them back?

Do you have copies of them in the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library or on your backup of your library ? If not, and if they are still in your country's store, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • I synced my iphone before downloading newest update and now I've lost my purchased ringtones.  How do I retrive them?

I synced my Iphone before downloading the newest update and lost all my purchased ringtones.  How do I get them back and what do I do differently next time so it doesn't happen again?

I'm having the same problem.  Mine do not show up in the purchased apps.  It seems like I had this problem before with a different upgrade & was able to resolve it by emailing the question to Apple directly.  Now I can't seem to find how to do that on their website or if it's even an option.  I guess we're just supposed to solve these problems ourselves.

    Hello dorothea31,
Not sure what happened to your purchased ringtones, but you can download them again.
See this for details.  It says iOS 8.1.1 but the download section still applies.

  • I updated my iphone with software ios5.0.1 and i have lost my purchased ringtones and imported music...........please help i had 25G of music on it

    Hi everyone
i have recently updated my iphone 3Gs with iOS 5.0.1 and i have lost my purchased ringtones and music uploaded from cd's on both my phone and computer....please help

You have two choices, however, choice one will only work for your 3GS: Download & Install this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
If you get an iPhone 5, you will need to purchase 10.6.8 & then update to iTunes 11:

  • When I updated my iphone through ITunes I lost my ringtones I purchased

When I up dated my iPhone I lost my ringtones I had purchased

A number of reasons can be addressed. Did you sync your contacts over to the supported application on the computer, or into iCloud? If so, then just sync them back.
Not all contact information is includded in the backup. If you have iCloud turned on, then turn it off and back on again. See if that helps.

  • Purchased ringtones disappeared after software update

I lost all ringtones purchased on my iphone when I synced and downloaded the latest software update. The ringtones are still on my imac, but even after syncing again, I cannot get them back on my phone.  Help?

I have same issue.  I have done the checklist from iMore website -- all techniques do not work.  I followed the steps, but the "remove and sync" does not appear.  I also did "restore from backup"; still did not work.  The ringtones were NOT restored on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.1).
Apple will have to do another update to fix this issue and refund the purchase.

  • Purchased ringtones and alerts disappeared after updating to iOS 8.2

since updating to iOS 8.2 purchased alert tones and ringtones have disappeared and following the restore times link does not restore them. Also, cannot update any apps from the App Store. How do I get back my purchased ringtones and alert tones?

    Greetings EmmsieK13,
It sounds like you were trying to connect to the App Store when there were some system issues.
You can check the status at
Apple - Support - System Status
Note you can scroll back on the Detailed Timeline by clicking the back button to see some previous days.
Since the systems show they are up now, please try again and see this article for restoring your alert tones and ringtone purchases.
