OS upgrade from windows 2000 to Windows 2003/ 2008

Hi friends,
We are planning to do an OS upgrade of our current production system from windows 2000 to Windows 2003/ 2008.
Can you please refer me to any existing document /Forum link which has a detailed strategy outlaying the activites to be performed for this.
Regards,
Rohit

Hello,
Just upgrading the OS to 2003 should be OK as 640 - 700 kernel is supported on Windows 2003
www.service.sap.com/pam
For 2008 minimum level is 700 SR3 best to do a system copy

  • Upgrading from AD 2000 to AD 2003

We currently have two instances of ACS 3.1 running on two Windows 2000 Domain Controllers.
One instance is read only (changes don't replicate) Does it matter which instance I upgrade first? I think I should update the primary instance first.
Once I upgrade them to 3.3.3 I plan on installing a new server running 2003, making it a domain controller, installing ACS 3.3.3 on it from scratch. Then configuring it to replicate with our primary instance. Once that is done I will remove the secondary instance on one of the 2000 domain controllers.
Once that is done I will install another 2003 server and repeat the process except this time I will replicate with the new ACS instance.
When it's done I should have two new 2003 domain controllers and two fully functional instances of ACS 3.3.3. Anyone see any problems or have a better way to upgrade ACS, and move it to new servers, while upgrading AD to 2003? Thanks.

You sound like you've thought this through. Your plan should work fine. RE: which system to upgrade first, it doesn't matter. Either way you won't be able to do replication until both systems are up on 3.3.3.

  • Problem after upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2003

    All:
Using Excel 2000 under Windows XP, ORACLE 8.01 ODBC driver, and ORACLE 8.1.7.4 database on an RS6000, data retrievals work fine.
Some users are testing PCs upgraded to Office 2003. Using same ORACLE ODBC driver and database, some columns of Excel spreadsheet now are in English and others in a different character set (basically garbage). Again, some are fine, some are not.
    Thoughts/Ideas/Opinions??
    Thank you in advance.

What version of the Oracle ODBC driver are you using? 8.01 is not a driver version-- it should be something like 8.1.7.x.y (assuming you're using one of the 8.1.7 Oracle ODBC drivers).
Since Oracle desupported the 8.1.7 database almost a year ago, do you have the option of upgrading the Oracle client to a supported release (probably 9.2 in your case)?
Unfortunately, I don't know what your particular problem is, but I have certainly seen problems mixing the latest and greatest versions of applications with older versions of the Oracle client.

  • Migrate print server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
Want to transfer NTFS permission of printers from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2.
Any method can do it ??
    Thanks

From your description, I understand that you want to copy ntfs permission of printer  folder
    from one server to another.
you can use subinacl to do the same..
To backup the permissions of the folder, subfolders and files on folder called Data on the G: drive:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\data\
If you wanted to just backup the NTFS permissions for the entire drive, the command would look like this:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_G_drive_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\*.*
Most of you will probably not be concerned with backing up down to the file level, and are satisfied with just backing up the permissions at the directory level.  Backing up the permissions for just the directories can be
    achieved with the following syntax:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt /subdirectories=directoriesonly G:\*.*
To restore the permissions on the drive using the file that you backed them up to:
    Subinacl /playfile c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt

  • Error 1003 after i upgrade from office 2000 to 2003

I just now upgraded form MSOffice 2000 to MSOffice 2003. When I tried to rebuild my app using application builder I get an error 1003 c:\...\internal.llb\excel_save_workbook.vi. Possible reasons: The vi is not executable. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled office and I have copied the toolkit's files to the harddrive and reinstalled the report generation toolkit from there, according to some of the help files in the knowledge base. Neither worked, although the original error was in _exceldynamicvis.vi and now its in the one mentioned above. nothing else has changed on the system. I can recompile my entire program using ctrl-shift and pressing the arrow at the same time, and there are no problems. Any help would be appreciated.
    -Mike

    Hi Mike,
Try opening the “excel_save_workbook.vi” and see if there is a broken run arrow in that VI. Hopefully there is. You can then identify the exact node (it will be some invoke node or property node) that will be set to some function or property that is no longer valid in the new Office 2003 API.
The issue here is that upgrading office causes changes in the office API that break other applications that call methods or properties of the old office API. You’ll just have to manually go in and reset the function call to the new function call in each of the VIs to update them with the new office 2003 API.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!

  • Having upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10, what is on the recovery drive?

I am new to the forum, I hope I have posted in the right place.   Having upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10, what is on the recovery drive? if its not windows 10 what must I do to create a new recovery drive? or should I delete it? I have a USB recovery for windows 8.1 if I should need it. I have created a windows 10 repair disk and have a system image on an external hard drive. I dont beleave I actually need the recovery drive as I have a backup option, but I would be good to have the option to recover from the drive. I understand the backup otion I have will allow me to recover if I lose the drive. Please advise Thank you in advance.

Your recovery partition will still be Windows 8.1.  Hp wont give you free Windows 10 recovery media even if your laptop is brand new with Windows 8.1 installed.

  • Migrating from Office 2000 to office 2003

I know that the personality migration is great for upgrading OS versions. Does it work the same for application upgrades as well. We are going to be upgrading workstations from Windows 2000 and Office 2000 to Windows XP and Office 2003. Will the personality migration migrate the office settings from office 2000 to Office 2003?
    THanks in advance.

  • Oracle 9i and upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows 2003

    Hi,
We have a Oracle 9i (9.2.0.6.0 Enterprise Edition) running under Windows 2000 and the OS group is going to upgrade to Windows 2003.
My question is: will Oracle keep working?
I hope so because we are not allowed to upgrade to 10g or 11g and I think Oracle 9i for Windows 2003 can't be downloaded anymore.
    regards,

    Please see your suggested doc
    - Take a cold backup of you existing database before you start OS and DB upgrade .
    - Upgrade the Operating system (refer your OS documentation for detail)
    - Execute 'relink all '
    - Verify that the existing database is working fine with the upgraded Operating system.
    - Take one more cold backup before you start Database upgrade
    - Install Oracle Software (to which you want to upgrade) in new oracle home.
    - Upgrade database (refer the upgrade/migration guide for complete instruction ) *Process To Upgrade the Operating System and Oracle Database Server [ID 407055.1]*
It means you need startup upgrade/migrate.

  • Moving oracle 9i database from windows 2000 to windows 2003 server

    hi everybody,
plz provide me a solution how to move oracle 9i database from windows 2000 server to windows 2003 server with step by step and also with commands plz as i am very new to oracle
    thanks in advance
    suresh

Install 9i on windows 2003 server and patch to the same level as the Oracle on Windows 2k
Shutdown and make a cold backup of your old database. That includes datafiles, controlfiles, redo files, init file (spfile)
Copy and put these files to the exact same directory structure/location, for example if old file is under D:\oradata\mysid\ then the file on new file should be under same directory. (If you are using Network Storage that make things easier, just mapping to the same drive letter.)
Also make sure archive log dest and all dump dest directories are created. You don't have to copy all old logs and dump files over.
Use oradim to create a new service for the database instance
    http://www.psoug.org/reference/oradim.html
Set proper ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID envionment varibles
Run netca to configure listener, actually copy listener.ora and tnsnames.ora to $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin will do
    Try to start the database

  • Upgrading from unix 8i to windows 10g

    Hi,
I am upgrading the oracle 8i in unix to oracle10g in windows 2000 server.
    I just exported from oracle8i
    exp system/manager file=full.dmp full=y That was fine.
    and then,
I installed the oracle10g in windows box and create the tablespaces as the oracle8i with same name (tablespace,datafile...etc)
and then I tried to import the full.dmp file to oracle10g,
But there are lots of error messages.
I don't know what the problem is.
is there something wrong the procedures what i've done?
    Help.....
    Thanks

Export and import is by far the easiest approach.
Pre-creating the tables is pretty easy. Take the export, run it through import with the INDEXFILE parameter to get the DDL. Use your favorite text editor to remove the clauses like PCTINCREASE that are invalid in a locally managed tablespace. Create the tables using that DDL, then run the import.

  • Oracle stability on Windows 2000 and Windows 2003

    Hello everyone,
since the beginning of my career in the database world (5 years ago), I work in a company where the operating system we are using is windows.
Since the beginning, we are shutting down and restarting every database server (including the OS) on a weekly basis to ensure stability I suppose.
    My question is:
Is it still a "good practice" to do that (restarting every database server)? On windows 2000? On windows 2003?
If it is still a "good practice", should it be done on a weekly basis or more on a monthly basis?
Thank's for any input on this open question.
    Best regards,
    Carl

I ran a 9i RAC on Win2K3 for over 16 months and only periodic reboots for maintenance (OS patches). I had a scheduled time each month (4 hours) to shutdown, take a cold backup, patch the OS, and get everything back up in time for production. This seemed to work just fine. I would caution not to upgrade all your nodes with the OS patches at the same time, however. Leapfrog them so a single bad patch doesn't kill your entire DB.

  • Migrating application from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro SP3

I just got a new computer with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed and need an application that was installed on my old, really old, computer running Windows 2000. The application was developed by a third party in 1997 and uses Oracle as the database engine. It uses Developer 2000 for the interface. Our IT person, who is lightyears ahead of anyone I've ever known when it comes to hardware and software, could not get the application to run on my new computer. We get error FRM-40039 when we try to open the application. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I use this application intermittantly all day and right now the "solution" is for me to go to my old computer to use it. This would be like an editor trying to use a dictionary located in another room from which it could not be removed (and could not consult the internet).

FRM-40039 is a Forms error, and Forms doesnt use ODBC. You'll probably get better help posting in the forum appropriate for that product. Unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what the forum is :(
