OS X 10.3.9 and Toast 5.2.3

Switched systems on my PowerMac G4 from OS 9.2.2 to OS X 10.3.9 and Toast 5.2.1 (and 5.2.3) "unexpectedly quits" when accessing the CD drive. These Toast versions are supposed to be good with both systems.
I have tried everything I can think of - re-installed software, upgraded software, firmware updates, disconnected peripherals, trashed preferences, ran disk utility and Disk Warrior. I'm sure it is a minor system conflict, but I've killed 1.5 days on this.
I have OS 9 on another internal drive and Toast works fine with it, but I don't want to re-start up into OS 9 everytime I need to burn a CD. Anyone have something similiar happen, or have any ideas?

Sorry for no response but have you tried logging in as another user and testing Toast as another user.
Sometimes spurious preferences can mess things up. I know you have trashed many of them but the "other user test" is a good one for apps that just give fits.
I am not convinced that going to 10.4 is a solution. On the other hand, I did just purchase toast 7 for some of the upgraded features that I can get with a bunch of programs strung together but like the ease of use in Toast (read that "I'm lazy")

  • 10.4.9 and Toast Titanium

Since I´ve downloaded the 10.4.9 update I have problems to burn DVDs with Toast Titanium 6.1.1
    CDs are not effected
The burn process starts properly, but a few minutes before it is finished it stops the job and Toast freezes.
Does anybody else encounter this problem?
    Thanks for your help!

Hi Big Tom Cat and welcome!
You should probably update to Toast 7, the latest version of which is 7.1.2. I have had no problems with that.
Or of course go straight to the latest version: Toast 8 !

  • ITunes and Toast are slow to open and will not quit

The other day I noticed that when I start iTunes it takes forever to start, no window no nothing, then a few minutes later its up and running. Then when I quit the window goes away but the dock icon still has its arrow and it shows up in the "Force Quit Application" window as "Not Responding" and no matter how many times I force it to quit it is still there. No window just the dock icon still has its arrow and it shows up in the "Force Quit Application" window.
I have to restart the Mac to get rid of iTunes. I tried downloading iTunes 6.5 but it will not install.
Now I find that Toast 5.2.1 also does this, when opened it shows no window and can not be forced to quit.

As this is a user-to-user forum, it's highly unlikely someone from Apple jumps in (they can be recognized by their white (Apple employees) or purple (moderators/hosts) avatars).
The long delays can be caused by a very huge library. iTunes needs some time to open the library and after quitting, iTunes will write the updated 'iTunes Library' file to disk. In contrary to pre-iTunes 7 versions, this can take some time.
If you don't have a huge (larger than a few hundreds of GBs?) library, the above does not apply.
Concerning your Toast application. I'm running Toast 8 at the moment, but still have Toast 5.2.3 on an external drive. Running and quitting that application gives no trouble whatsoever on my system (OS X 10.4.8).
Did you recently install a new app.? The first thing to try is to Repair Permissions with Disk Utility. If this doesn't fix it, you might have to perform an Archive and Install.
You also might post a question in the Mac OS X forum. Maybe someone there has a hint that does not need a tedious Archive and Install.

  • IDVD and Toast-anyone else had this problem?

I apologize for the long post, but it is necessary to explain the situation.
I have made 4 projects in iDVD6, 2 SL, 2 DL with no problems. I edit in imovie, send to idvd, then make images which I burn with toast (though I know it is not recommended for the DL). I have not had a single problem....until 2 days ago.
I have created a 5th project, a DL, in the exact same way. The problem this time is that when I try to burn it with toast, I get this error:
    Sense code = illegal request
    Sense key = 0x26
    Invalid field in parameter list
The toast people have been no help. They say it's just a problem with the image file. I have re-encoded it 4 different times (14 hours a pop!), to no avail. I was able to burn one of them with disk utility, but it no longer will . The image mounts and plays just fine on my mac.
So....I tried burning straight from iDVD. I get the "multiplexing" barber pole for awhile, then it says "finished recording", spits out the disk (still blank) and just freezes. I have to force quit.
I have tried trashing preferences, repairing permissions, all the suggestions I have seen in these forums and nothing is helping.
Thanks for bearing with me through that explanation. Is there anyone who can offer any suggestions? I would be forever grateful!
Emac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5) LaCie external dual layer

Yes, my chapters follow those rules. The image file is 7.6 GB and I have 30 GB free on my startup disk. If it matters, I always encode onto and burn from an external hard drive. I am starting to wonder if my drive is the culprit. I went back and tried to re-burn old images that previously burned fine and am getting the error with those, too. I am going to try to get some input from the LaCie folks, too.
If anyone has anymore suggestions, I would be grateful.

  • Problem with iphoto, printer, and toast

Can someone direct me to a discussion on this topic. I seem to have a driver problem or something...when I go to print anything, from any program, said program crashes.
Toast titanium won't open properly, and then won't even force quit no matter what I do.
Iphoto won't add to library anymore.
My Sibelius lost all it's fonts, and I'm sure there are a few more things I haven't even noticed yet. They all happened at the same time which is why I reckon they're all the same problem.
I'm running an Imac g5, so I know it's old! Also- I cannot locate the original cds that would let me do a reinstallation. Is there somewhere I can get them?
Oh I hope someone somewhere still running pre intel reads this.

Try running a reset printing system. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Then hold down the Control key and click your mouse in the Printers list. A menu showing Reset printing system should appear. Click this.
Now restart your Mac and then add the Canon driver again. Hopefully this gets things working for you again.

  • IDVD 5 img and Toast

I have a disk image I made with iDVD 5. How do I burn it in toast titanium 7? What files go it what sections etc?
    Thanks!

From iDVD, choose File > Save As Disc Image.
Mount the disc image on the desktop, by choosing the "Mount It" menu option that comes with Toast 7... which will mount the disc image as a DVD.
Launch Toast 7 and click on the DVD tab in the media browser, this will display all the titles and chapters from your DVD.
Drag/drop a title or chapter into the SVCD option of Toast.
This will turn your iDVD video into a SVCD.
iDVD menus are not included in it.

  • IDVD and Toast . . .

I've finished an iDVD project, shot in HD. I want to burn it to a Blu-ray disk using Toast and a LaCie burner. Is that possible, and where do I start?

Roxio Toast is even easier to use than iDvd IMO. Toast 10 has ok menus but not nearly as nice as iDvd's motion menus. If you want to add Blu-ray functionality to your current version then you'll need to purchase the blu-ray plug in available from Roxio's web site for under $20. That's why I recommend the Pro version. However, the best place for questions and answers is via Roxio Forums.
    http://forums.support.roxio.com/
Nevertheless I can say this and I quote from the link /web site below ... Toast 10 Titanium has the ability to copy and burn information to Blu-ray discs, while Toast 10 Titanium Pro adds the ability to burn HD video to Blu-ray via the High-Def/Blu-ray Disc plug-in ($19.99, included free with Toast 10 Titanium Pro).

  • IDVD (and Toast) never complete writing lead-outs

    Hi,
I've noticed occasionally that when using Toast 7 and iDVD 6 that during the writing process, the application in question persists on writing the lead-out. I understand what the correlation between lead-out and DVD playing length are. However, the drive just spins and spins for hours if left to do so. It is a Pioneer DVR-109 (not Apple blessed). The media is Memorex DVD-R 16x and I frankly haven't spent time trying other media yet.
I'm unable to halt the spinning by any means other than rebooting the computer. Usually, the result is fine. Sometimes the DVD doesn't conclude viewing properly.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yup, the Memorex disks have been a bit problematic. I was able to burn to an image with iDVD.
I happened to have some TEON DVD-R 8x media a friend gave for another project, and that worked fine. The Memorex 16x media burned at 8x had the same issue.
I had had poor experiences with Verbatim media in the past. But co-workers have raved about the DL disks and the single-layer ones lately. Perhaps I will give them a try.
    Thanks!

  • AC3 Codec - for QT and Toast

    Hola,
My Toast DVD's made from avi's have no sound. Avi files played in QT have no sound. I assume it's related?
Do I need the AC3 codec? Where do I get it, where do I put it?
    Gracias.

Also MPEG Streamclip can play AC3 and PCM audio in MPEG videos.
I always use MPEG Streamclip for MPEG playback because QT Player can't play AC3 and PCM audio codecs, it distorts PAL interlacing (due to its automatic 720x540 scaling -- 788x576 or 1050x576 would be better alternatives for square pixel 4:3 or 16:9 playback), and it displays the incorrect resolution for MPEG files.

  • Problem using "Photo to Movie" and "Toast 8 Titanium" for dvd slideshow

I used photo to movie to compile a 20 minute collection of photos for a relative's funeral. All the files were still photos (no video) but I added 4 songs (that I had in iTunes).
When I go to "create movie", I normally select NTSC for toast, but when I do so toast gives me an error saying "filename.dv is an unsupported format and cannot be imported".
I just went throw this process a day ago for a wedding slideshow (using same computer and workflow) and it worked fine!!! What could be causing this?
I have downloaded all the latest updates of both toast and photo to movie.

I finally figured out (after 8 hrs of troubleshooting) that there was one photo in there it didnt like. When I finally found the photo (by process of elimination) and replaced it, everything worked fine. Just wish the error messaging would be more specific to help me locate the problem!

  • No Auto-Update for To Do list, session message and toast message

After LC ES Server hardening, we noticed that auto-update is not working for To Do list, session message and new task notification toast message. Before server hardening, all of them are still working fine.
Does anyone know why auto-update is not working after server hardening? Is there any specific port numbers which need to be enabled/opened to solve this issue?

JGroups is an open source project that allows processes to send messages to one another. LiveCycle data services uses it for its messaging implementation (basically it configures the server to multicast messages to all the listening clients...even in a clustered environment across different LAN/WAN).
In most cases the default configuration will work fine, the problem is that if you are running a firewall on the server (or your local machine...i.e. windows firewall) the ports that JGroups uses for its communications can be blocked. In a local environment its easy enough to disable windows firewall and bounce your server to get things working.
In a production environment you need to open the ports that JGroups is using. These settings are in the Global Administration settings (as mentioned by WorkspaceUser above). If you export it and look at the JChannelConnectionProperties you'll see the ports its using and you can set your firewall to allow communication to those ports.

  • Flip4Mac 2.3 (64 Bit) Issues with WMV Exports and Toast - Be Aware

I was making DVD's from WMV files and noted they encoded rather swiftly in Toast, which seemed great until it was clear that Toast was encoding roughly 1/2 of the WMV file. Not exactly 1/2 , just around 1/2. 20 minutes would be 9, 11, 8 1/2 etc. Pretty random.
Reverting to 32-bit 2.2.1.1 (or 2.2.3.7 will do too - I could only find the 2.2.1.1 installer quickly) cured the problem.
F4M entire support area and forums are busted so no chance to contact support yet but be aware that applications using F4M and QT as the engine may not deliver what you expect. So test one file first.
I have not tried saving into a MOV container first, which might help. Unfortunately I got behind and there were 132 files to encode so open and "save as" 132 times was not in the cards. Not sure it will work, either but I will try and see if it does. Obviously F4M is not getting the time code right on the source videos.
In QT7 they are playing OK with the right timing, but not Toast.
If you face this with Studio, you can use the uninstaller in Applications\Flip4mac, then install a lower version and you won't lose your serial number, etc.

anyone found the fix for this?

  • 10.5.5 and Toast 9.0 Question

I have checked the Toast manual and did a bunch of searching here and on the Roxio site, but I still can't find any instruction that describe how to burn to both DVD Burners if you have a 2nd one installed.
    Any suggestions would greatly appreciated!!

    You don't mean simultaneously, right?
I use both my internal burner and an external LaCie burner.
When I run Titanium and select burn, I am given the option of either drive.

  • VHS movies to iMovie 9 via EyeTV and Toast 8.

I am importing VHS home movies to EyeTV on my Mac Pro. I am able to get a file with the EyeTV ext, and I am able to create a DVD through Toast 8. I want to edit this video with iMovie 9. iMovie wants a different file ext. Any help?

There are two ways to get movies into iMovie from EyeTV. You do not need Toast, unless you just want to add a step (although Toast is good if just want to make unedited DVDs)
    1) Export your movie from EyeTV in h.264 format, or use the Apple TV preset.
    2) The second way is a little more complicated, but it produces better results. Here it is. You will need to download and install MPEG Streamclip (free) and the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component ($20).
I go into the EyeTV file and right-click/Show in Finder, then right-click/Open Package Contents. There you will find a folder of MPEG2 files with the .MPG extension.
You can drag these files into MPEG Streamclip and convert then into Apple Intermediate Codec.
If it offers to repair timecode breaks, say yes. You can also deinterlace the files in this step.
Then you can import the resulting AIC file into iMovie for Editing.

  • IMovie 3.0.3, Audio, and Toast 7

Is extracting the audio from a clip in iMovie 3.0.3, completely deleting the audio track, and then saving the edited clip enough to REALLY AND TRULY get rid of the unwanted audio when it is transferred to Toast 7, or should other measures be employed while saving the iMovie project? Thanks for any advice or help.

That begs the question, why does iMovie allow unlocking and deleting an audio track IF THE AUDIO IS NOT REALLY GONE?
?--What type of files are captured to iMovie 3.0.3? All I can find is "Media File," nothing about type. It is giving the wrong capture date--2017!
?--What is demuxing and does iMovie do it? I can't even find the word in the Help folder!
What gets me is ALL the files were captured through the SAME equipment by the SAME method. In every previous case, simply extracting and deleting audio worked FINE! Now I seem to have one or more file(s) from which the sound was extracted but never showed up in the audio track, just went to hide and wreak havoc even over newly imported clips which hadn't even been edited!
I have another file where it's possible to extract and delete sound from the whole long sequence (which still does no good as when I paste it over the previous sound is still there--even on a newly replaced sequence) but on the short sequence which is all I actually want, it will extract the sound but not let me unlock or delete it! VERY, VERY FRUSTRATING!
The people waiting for the tape have been quite patient so far. Only one psycho breakdown (wasn't ME!!!) and she was about half-cracked to begin with. Thanks for the help.
