  • Starting problem with iPhoto - wrong file deleted

Hello, I have problem with starting my iPhoto... a few days ago I made a mistake when I  accidentally deleted some file in system settings...  I think it was  ,,Framework,,
Now I cant start it and only descriptions of the error is appearing .. Can we fix it ? Or its possible to reinstall this app??
    Thank you.

a few days ago I made a mistake when I  accidentally deleted some file in system settings...  I think it was  ,,Framework,,
If you deleted a framework, we need to where.
If the error message says something like
    Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/...
    or  Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
Then you need to reinstall MacOS X to fix this. These dynamic libraries are installed by the system.
Reinstall by booting into the recovery ,  see this link for how to reinstall:    OS X: About OS X Recovery
You do not need to wipe your system and reinstall the apps, if you reinstall the system. Just run the installer and install on top of your current system.

  • What is the best way to start "fresh" with iPhoto '08?

I am running iPhoto '08 on a mid-2007 iMac. When I set up the machine, I moved all the photos from my PC to the Mac retaining the existing directory structure that I had on the PC. I then imported all the pictures into iPhoto with no problems.
Unfortunately, the other person who uses the Mac needs to be able to use the directory structure as it existed on the PC (that structure involves several subfolders with specific names etc.), and it appears that iPhoto is not designed to work that way. I know the photos can still be manipulated in the folders I imported, but then I run the risk of at best, being out of synch with iPhoto and at worst, corrupting iPhoto completely.
That said, what I would like to do is delete or remove the current iPhoto library (or whatever iPhoto accesses; not the whole application unless necessary) and then selectively import photos to iPhoto. That way, the other user can access the photos in the familiar folder structure and manipulate them at will without disturbing the iPhoto db and, once photos are edited etc. and ready for primetime, they can be imported to iPhoto to gain the advantages of displaying using Front Row etc.
My question is what is the best way to achieve what I am looking for? Just backup then delete the iPhoto pkg file in the HD/Library/Receipts folder? Uninstall the entire application and start over?
    All assistance greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You don't need to re-install iPhoto, just change the library - and you may not even need to do that.
    1. You can easily recreate your Directory structure in iPhoto. Simply start at the bottom of your structure and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane of the iPhoto Window. iPhoto will create an Album of the same name. The create your enclosing folders (File -> New Folder) and drag the albums to it. This way you can quickly recreate what you have/
    2. The other user of the files can access them directly via the iPhoto Window or a Media Browser such as THIS. The advantage of this system is that your directory structure is available to them ina convenient and recognisable way. They can then drag the pics from the iPhoto Window / Media Browser to the app they as the need. (A whole lot faster than fumbling around in Folder after Folder etc, plus the advantage of keyword searching.)
    3. Is this necessary for working with an editor? You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. Btw this is the only way that edits made in iPhoto will be visible in iPhoto.
    4. Finally, if you do wish to go as you described: Simply trash the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder. Start iPhoto and it will create an new empty library. If you wish to recover the files from the Library first, then Right Click on the iPhoto Library and go 'Show Package Contents'. Your files are in the Originals Folder.

  • Starting again with iphoto

hi, i have been trying to deal with a messy problem with iphoto and had to start my library all over again. My pictures are saved to my hard disk and i need to reimport them to my new iphoto library, however there are many many many duplicates of each photo (i originally had around 5000 photos and somehow this has increased to 26000) and i want only to import one of each. can anyone help? i know that when importing photo's in to an album and one photo already exists in the library it will ask if you want to import the duplicate, but because nothing is in the library at the moment it dose not seam to recognise a duplicate. Is there a way i can do this?

Later versions of iPhoto have a feature that helps avoid importing duplicates. Other than that there are various apps that will search for duplicate files, and you can try them on the images before importing them to iPhoto. TidyUp is one but there are others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Is there a way to undo after Photoshop has frozen and you are working with a recovered file?

so this is exactly what happened...
I had been working on an edit for way too long and of course i didnt save it the entire time because im terrible i guess, I wanted to see what the deal with Lens Flare was so i went Filter>Render>Lens Flare to check it out. I hated it and immediately removed the flare with no problems. Then I was going to go back to Lens Flare to see if i could adjust it into something sort of decent but i accidentally went Filter>Render>Lighting Effects and it locked my Photoshop up (yes my computer sucks). I then started to panic because of the extensive amount of time i put into this edit without saving it. I opened Photoshop and thankfully it loaded up the recovered file i was working on. Unfortunately it has the terrible lens flare from my first attempt attached to it and im not able to undo or anything. Is there anything i can do to get rid of the lens flare? any help is welcomed. thank you so much for your time

Have you applied the Lens Flare destructively on the single Layer in the file?

  • Is iPhoto 6 compatible with iPhoto 7 files?  Can they be synchronized?

I did a search but can't find the answer so I figured I'd check with the experts...
I have a MacBook Pro with iPhoto 6 and a new iMac with iPhoto 7 installed. All my existing photos are on the laptop, but I'd like to sync them with the iMac. What are the options?
I have ChronoSync synchronizing software, which I haven't used yet, to sync some document files. Ideally I'd like to sync the two computers and have all photos available on both, but the issue is whether I can sync the 2 different versions of iPhoto in a functional way, and if so how? It seems the iPhoto library on version 7 is not simply a folder as it is in version 6.
Otherwise, if I upgrade to iPhoto 7 on the laptop, would I then be able to do this?
    Thanks every and anyone!

    Dr. JEP
    From http://www.econtechnologies.com/site/Pages/ChronoSync/chrono_tips12.html
ChronoSync can keep iPhoto on two Macs in sync but it can not merge data together.
When you "back up" iPhoto from one computer to the other, is that backup a functional one, i.e. one that gets inserted into the iPhoto databases or whatever on that new computer, or is it something I would have to manually import into iPhoto after deleting it's existing database? How do you do it?
The back up, assuming you back up the library in it's entirety, will be completely functional. But it will NOT take account of changes in the other library, it'll just overwrite it.
You can move pics -and associated metadata between libraries using iPhoto Library Manager. But this is not automated, nor is it a back up application.
What both iPhoto and iTunes allow is Sharing Libraries - where one user can allow other Users to See (or hear) a library, but not allow the sharing person to alter the library.
The alternative is really to get a media server app - rather more expensive.

  • Starting over with iPhoto?

My library in iPhoto is too large 100,000+ photos. I have tried to split it with Library Manager, but it is too big and after duplicating a part, I can't delete it. I have a backup, but can't seem to find the iPhoto Library to try and re-import the photos to new iPhoto libraries created by Library Manager.
Library is not workable as is, how do I start with little libraries and where do I import the photos from? I have them on an external time machine backup, but don't see them.

    Create a New Library:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'. Name it and save it.
Then use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/albums/events to the new Library.
    See if that works.

  • Any way to start up with applications and files open when shutdown?

I usually just put my Power Mac Tiger 10.4.11 to sleep when I'm finished. But sometimes if an electrical storm is pending I like to shutdown but sometimes I have so many applications and files open I hate to. Is there anyway, maybe even with third-party software, that I can completely shutdown without closing anything and start up later and have all apps and files reopen??

I don't know if this works in 10.4.11...
    http://www.jinx.de/SmartSleep.html
But I did read about it working on other than Laptops...
OS X only has only one "sleep" option. You cannot change its name, but to change its behaviour, I use SmartSleep on a Mac mini (though in the MacBook-like "sleep & hibernate" mode). It works for a mini, though the website only refers to MacBooks.

  • Starting over with iPhoto 08

I installed iPhoto 08 yesterday but all my recent pictures disappeared from the library. I have a backup copy of all my pictures. How do I just dump the library and start over? Bob

    bobborchers
How does that appear to you? Blank squares? Or no trace at all of the pics?
Before we can tell you how to recover from the back up, you're going to need to tell us how the back up was made.
But - and DON"T DO THIS UNITL YOU KNOW HOW THE BACK UP WAS MADE - you will need to trash the iPhoto Library from Pictures and put the recovered back up there in it's place.
So, how was the back up made? Is it Current? Have you read the Help from your Back Up app to see what is says about restoring?

  • Start again with iPhoto?

    Hi
I'm running iPhoto 6.0.6 on my poor, old MacBook (osx 10.6.8) and it's turned into a bit of a nightmare ever since i opened iPhoto to find no pics in it.
I've followed advice on here for sorting it out but to no avail.
As a result of my tinkering, I have photos, photo libraries and copies of photo libraries all over the place and have managed to get iPhoto to 'talk to' the library if it's on the desktop but anywhere else not.
Is it possible to just strip everything down to one folder containing just photos and start it all over again?
    Thanks

You can recover your photos from the Library - they are in the originals folder. Just drag that to the desktop. Now trash all the flotsam and jetsam. Next Create a new Library - that is, just launch iPhoto.  Then add the photos from the Originals folder on the desktop to the new Library, folder by folder.
Note though that you lose everything except the original photos. All your edits gone, albums, books, slideshows etc.

  • Time Machine: i had a problem with removing old files from trash, that is fixed and the whole reason was to make time machine work. It has been backing up for day and one half. What should I do??

trash problem resolved. Now time machine is acting up. it has been backing up since yesterday

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Copy the words "Starting standard backup" (without the quotes) on this page and paste into the String Matching text field. Note the timestamp of the last message shown. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

  • Mysterious "recovered files" in trash after start up

So everytime I start up, there are these unknown files in my trash (maybe like 5 or 6 files). I think they were under the heading of "windows." I delete them, and then the next time I start up they are back. Has anyone heard of this happening?
    thanks
    Spence

    Spence,
It's nothing to worry about. Instead of using daily, weekly and periodic commands in Panther to clear unwanted temp files Tiger does it for you through a launchdaemon at start up. Since it's designed to run each time you restart it's recommended you restart your PB every couple of days instead of just putting to sleep. I have noticed however that merely logging off then on also works.

  • Recovering Files in Trash with Time Machine?

    Hey guys,
So I have some files that I desperately need to recover that I put in my trash a while ago. I am certain they were still in there when I recently backed up my Macbook Pro to Time Machine, but then a week later I accidentally emptied the trash, forgetting I'd left valuable files in there.
I've since tried to search through my time machine backup, but however cannot find a folder that contains the files anywhere. I tried making hidden files, but still can't find a folder that would contain the files that were in my trash.
Is there any way to recover files that were in the trash in a time machine backup?
Further details (may not all be necessary, just in case):
Computer: MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012)
OSX: Was running Mavericks at time of aforementioned events, now running Yosemite
Type of Files Trying To Find: Videos
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Time Machine doesn't back up the Trash. You would have to recover the files from wherever they were before you put them in the Trash.

  • Create new folder with name of file?

I am generating about 20 files from a 3d model. I open the model let's say the name is "delorean" then I want to create a new folder with all the generated files. I'm using a watch me Do to generate the files. The watch me do will save them in whatever folder I specify ahead of time. Should I just specify new folder each time, then rename it with the file name afterwards? If so how do I get the original file name so that I can use it to rename the file. Is there an example of doing something like this somewhere?
    Thanks.
    This forum is great.
    Dan

I am going to guess that you start off with a single file - what are you doing to generate these files? My *Get Names of Finder Items* action can get a name to use in the *New Folder* action - items passed to the New Folder action will get copied to it, so a little more detail may help in creating the workflow.
The *Dispense Items Incrementally* action can also be used to dole out the items one at a time - knowing what the workflow is doing would help with the use of this action as well.

  • Borderless pringing with iPhoto 6

I'm having a new problem with iPhoto 6. Up until recently, I was able to print borderless pictures. Now when I select the paper size (4 X 6 - borderless), it still prints a white border around the picture. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't changed anything. Can anyone tell me how to print my pictures without the borders again?
    cheers,
    Jack

    Jack:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You have cropped the photo to 4x6, right? In the Print pane do you have the following settings: Paper: 4x6 borderless; Style: Standard Prints' Size: 4x6; One photo per page √.
If that doesn't get rid of the border go to the Paper Handling section in the menu that starts out with iPhoto. There check the box "Scale to fit paper size" and uncheck the Scale down only box. That should get you your borderless 4x6. Be sure to save the settings under the Preset menu along with the paper type under Quality and Media (Canon printers) or Print Settings (Epson printers) depending on the printer used.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
