OS X 10.4.5 will it connect to Airport

I am trying to connect an old Mac to the internet. If I buy AirPort will it connect?

If the Mac has an AirPort card or other 802.11 component, yes. You shouldn't need to buy a wireless base station to do this unless the computer doesn't have any Ethernet ports.

  • Iphone will not connect to airport express extended network - macbook and ipad will - Help

Iphone will not connect to airport express extended network - macbook and ipad will without problems.
iphone will connect to base station no problems, I've restored settings and started again but still the same, the iphone picked up the network for the last couple of months, but not now ?

I'm having the same issue. My AExpress used to give a good signal strength on the far side of the house extending he network created by my Extreme. However, I've noticed lately that my iPhone does not receive the same strong signal it once did. AE has a green light, I've rebooted it, and my Extreme but there is no change in signal strength. Other than the green light, how can I tell if the Express is working if I don't get a good network signal?

Imac will not connect to Airport Extreme when configured WPA/WPA2
    Posted: Jul 5, 2007 8:22 PM Reply
I just got my Imac to connect to the internet using my Airport Extreme but only by using WEP. I had my Windows XP SP2 machines connecting using WPA/WPA2 with no problem. The Imac will not connect using anything other than WEP, and 1 of the XP machines will not connect using WEP.(I have not tried the other XP machines) I had to set the Airport Extreme for an open network in order to let both computers access the shared hard drive and access the internet.
I don't know what the problem might be and would appreciate any suggestions.

hehe...on the visuals. I figured it out already, and I have the old airport card. However, I did a chat with Apple support and while we were chatting I found a USB adapter with MAC drivers which will work. It is:
Hawking Technology HWUG1A Wireless-G USB Adapter with Removable Antenna for Macintosh
    Manufacturer Part# HWUG1A
That is the only adapter that actually does WPA/WPA2 that I can find that is for a Mac and not just an older USB that only does WEP. It surprises me that Apple does not have a USB product like this. Anyway, for $56 including shipping, I will have it by Monday or Tuesday. Pretty cool.
Thank you so much for your assistance. It is appreciated.

  • Old Airport card (b protocol) will not connect to Airport Express

    Hi,
I have an one year old Intel IMac running OS/X 10.5.7 and recently bought the Airport express. Setup went smooth and fast and within 10 minutes it was working. I did all the software and firmware updates.
Then I connected my wife's Windows laptop, network was detected and the password was accepted immediately so I got that connected as well.
Last, but apparently not least, I tried to connect my G3 iBook running OSX 10.2.8 with an Airport card (not the extreme but the predecessor) so I could use that one in the garden but it will not connect.
When I open the airport icon on the top of the screen then I see the network. If I select it and try to connect I have to enter a password. After a few seconds I get a message that "There was an error joining the selected Airport network".
When I use the Airport Setup assistant to establish the connection if tells me that "the password you entered was incorrect".
I was told that the Airport Express station is able to use a 801.11b protocol since that is what the old card uses.
I checked the password, I used textedit to type it first and the 'cut and paste' but nothing seems to work.
Long story but I hope I gave enough information for someone to resolve this problem for me. I cannot reply immediately to all replies but I will read them all.
    Thank you,
    Henk

Hello CarreraHenk. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
When I open the airport icon on the top of the screen then I see the network. If I select it and try to connect I have to enter a password. After a few seconds I get a message that "There was an error joining the selected Airport network".
Which wireless encryption standard are you using on your new 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station's (AXn) wireless network ... WEP, WPA or WPA2?
For WPA, the minimum requirements are the AirPort Card & OS X 10.3.n. The AirPort Card will not support WPA2.

  • HT201250 trying to set up time machine, it will not connect to airport utility, inspite the wi-fi is very strong.

I have tried repeatedly to connect time machine to my air port utility, and keep getting the message that it was undetected. I have a strong wi-fi connection in my house and I just don't understand that it will not connect. Can anyone help me with this?

Power off both your Mac and the Time Capsule and wait a few minutes
Power up the Time Capsule first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the Mac next and let it run a full minute.
Go into Time Machine Preferences again and see if you can select the Time Capsule as a destination for Time Machine backups. Do this by first removing any existing disks for Time Machine. Click Add/Remove Disk and remove the existing disk that is set up. Then repeat to select and add the disk again.
If still no luck, open Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
Locate the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file and move it to the desktop
Then repeat the complete the entire procedure above to see starting at the top, to see if you can select the Time Capsule for Time Machine backups.

  • My itouch will not connect with airport even though I am entering the correct password

I have not had any problems with my Apple airport modem until today.  When I went to use my I touch that I have been using for at least one year on the airport would not connect and my password that I have been using all along will not work.  Any suggestions?

With some routers, during that first set up it asks you for the password, but what it really wants is the full security code, not the password.    I have seen this many times.  Go back to the router and get full code. It is usually a
Ong meaningless string.  If you cannot find it, reset the router to make it generate a new one.  When you trymto join the network on the pad, use that and not the password.   See if that helps.
By the way, once you join, it will remember, and you will not need the string again unless you do a full restore or 'forget' the network.

  • Canon MP560 will not connect to airport extreme

Since I have gotten an Airport Extreme, I haven't been able to connect my Canon MP 560 to the network. It will see the network, but once i enter in the WEP key, I get the error message "failed to connect to the access point. check the access point settings and try again"
Everything worked fine when I was using my Dlink DIR 655.
    Any help would be great!

    Thanks for your reply
I connected a Ethernet cable from the AP EXT to the AP EXP.
After starting Airport Utility an update was found to be required for the AP EXP.
The AP EXP updated and restarted (that took longer than expected) patients was required.
The Airport Utility still showing both devices.
Continued with the setup in Airport Utility, choosing to add to the existing wireless network.
After the successful update and restart I removed the ethernet cable and took the AP EXP downstairs and plugged in to the wall and some speakers.
    restarted my modem
Airport Utility still shows both devices.
iTunes shows remote speakers (with the name I had chosen)
    All works.
And yes faith is restored hallelujah !!!!
Thanks so much. Must go and start preaching the way of the Mac....
    I hope this helps others.

  • IPad2 will not connect to Airport Express.

    Hi,
I'm now experiencing problem when trying to connect my iPad2 running on iOS 5.1.1 to my Airport Express. It has been connecting automatically for the past one year. This morning instead of connecting automatically the setting/WiFi menu prompt me to set up an airport base station. When I tapped the AirPort Express tab it then shows a pop-up with the message, "This AirPort Express named .... cannot be set up by this software. Go to apple.com/support/airport".
I've tried several times to reconnect as well as set up the airport base station. I even tried a reset/forced shut down on my iPad. Each time I got the same pop-up message.
Curiously, I have no problem connecting to the same airport base station using my MacBook. It works and connects to the internet just fine.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and found the solution?
Thanks for your attention and assistance.
    Yudhi

    Hi,
I don't have answer for you but I tried all the same things as you but still have difficulty. It's funny that we have the same laptop and not being able to get Ipads recognised. If you get a reply I will be most interested

  • Iphone will not connect to airport extreme in N only mode?

My iphone was unable to see my airport extreme for local wi-fi. I chnahged my setting from "N compatible only" to "N with g,b compatible and it suddenly showed up. Is this a limitation of the iphone that it will not see 802.11N (only) routers? I could not find any documentation or internet tips on this topic. Thanks!

I have done that several times.
After entering the network ID, selecting WPA and password, the iPhone displays the msg: Unable to connect to network, but my network name (with the padlock) will show up in the list of available connections (after clicking "OK" on the dialog box) although my network is set to not broadcast.
FWIW: I can connect to other unprotected networks.

  • Iphone 3g will not connect to airport extreme

I bought airport extreme today and hoping to use it with my iphone 3g. iphone reverts to 3g and will not stay "connected" to wifi. any ideas?

But it is not set up as a DHCP server. It is in bridge mode.
Ah, well, that could be it. Many (not all) ASDL providers only provide a single
    IP address.
I was thinking yours offered more than one when you said:
The airport works fine with the MacBook and I have a ext. hard drive and a printer working.
I leaped to the conclusion that the hard drive and printer were connected via cat 5, (which would require that they get an IP as well), but now I see that was probably a wrong assumption.
So with bridge mode, if your ISP only offers one IP, or they only allow "registered mac addresses" you can only get the laptop running. DHCP (and NAT network address translation) will get around the single IP problem.
Registered Mac Addresses means they asked you the mac address of your laptop and that is the only one they will honor. If you don't remember that happening, chances are its not an issue, but if it is, most routers have a "clone Mac Address" option.

  • Imac will not connect to airport lion

I am using a 27" iMac and an Airport Extreme.  After installing Lion, and now 10.7.1, my iMac will still not connect to wifi.  I must do it manually - under all scenarios.

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. How far do you get?

  • Amazon Fire TV will not connect to Airport Extreme

I received the Fire TV unit last weekend, hooked it up, it found my secure network, but when I enter the network password it (Fire TV setup) spins awhile then the message "connection to "network name" failed; please try again". I called amazon support who tried a number of things, but all failed. They sent a 2nd unit to me yesterday, hooked it up, etc, etc ... same result.
I do have the Apple TV and an amazon Kindle Paperwhite, connected to the network and don't remember any issues with setup. Even my Samsung Note II (with the right app) connects with no issues.
Amazon support has now turned me over to Apple, but my support expired 2 years ago.
BTW, firmware on the Airport is up to date. I'm running OSX 10.6.8.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the wireless tech voodoo area..
Here is where you don your carved demon mask and start sacrificing chicken livers to the gods of ether. Placating the evil spirits of ether (angry that you are not using ether-net) will make life hard until they get their fill of fresh pate.
What airport are you talking about?? Actual model A1xxx from the base please?
I recommend a new clean setup.. make sure all names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. 10 brownie points for names of 10 characters or less.
Please also name the wireless bands separately and in the same manner.. eg.. base station name.. AEgen4 (use a number of actual gen) wireless name AE24ghz and AE5ghz .. then use passwords with the same rules.. mix of case and numbers only.. pure alphanumeric. 8-20 characters.
But do a test first with no password.. does it connect?
This is a crucial test.. failure to connect to a short name with no password is a sign of fundamental dysfunction and even chicken livers won't help.
Last action in the piece, set the wireless channels.. stick to 2.4ghz and try channels 11, 9, 6 in that order.
If all fails.. sorry it is not compatible. If it works immediately add security.. wpa2 Personal should work.. but if not try wpa1.
If it all fails you can add a cheap wireless AP to the network.. post how you go and if you need further help to do that.

  • Macbook will not connect to airport extreme

    Hi

My mac book's hard drive had to be replaced and I am now in the process of setting up all the info again which was lost when my hard drive was replaced.
I am attempting to connect the mac book to the internet via airport.

    2) Click join network this I do " Apple Network 2b4a1d" and it ask for a WPA password

Next, I click on the airport utility and scan for the bases station.
    The message I get is:
"Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport base station"
Also in the Airport utility window the section in blue where the airport used to appear is blank.
Does any one have any ideas before I go to the service provider?
Look forward to any help that can be given.
    Thanks
    James

Since your iMac is successful, then we probably should concentrate on why you MacBook is having trouble. From your original post it sounds like you didn't know the WPA password so if this is still the case you can determine the password by looking at your iMac's Keychain in order to retrieve it. You can then try this password to connect the MacBook to the AEBSn.
o Run the Keychain Access utility found in \Applications\Utilities
o In the category column (on the left side of the utilities' window), select "All Items."
o In the right column look for your Network Name. It will have a "Kind" of "AirPort network password."
o Double-click on your network name listing.
    o Click on "Show password."
    o Enter your Mac's administrator's password
o Your wireless network's password should now be displayed.

  • Windows xp will not connect to airport extreme

I can connect if I make the network unsecure but when i make it secure my computer with a windows xp operating system can not connect. My ibook connects fine either way. It does show the network in range but when i try to connect and enter the password in the network key the computer says waiting for the network and then after3-4 minutes does not connect. Any help please?

I am having the same problem. Apple Support took me through a bunch of steps over an hour and then sort of gave up and said this is a Microsoft problem. Great help! I may end up returning the AEBS, because this is just WAY too much work.
When I set the AEBS (using MacBook Pro) at WEP level of security, by the way, the Network Connections available box on the XP Notebook still labels the network as a WPA/WPA2 network. The WEP option does not appear.

  • Mac will not connect to airport

I am trying to connect to a disk attached to my airport base. when I click on it in finder it says connecting as and hangs. If I click disconnect it hangs. I am not doing this from and admin account so I would like to use the connect as button but that is no where to be seen. Obviously I am missing things about id, passwords and network connectivity. can anyone point me to documentation on this or at least how to set up an airport base so I can access the shared disk?
I am using the latest osx on a 1 year old iMac with a brand new airport base with time capsule.

    Hi fdrussell,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Were your Airport Extreme and Mac Pro communicating earlier?  If so, what changed?
First try shutting down the computer, and recycling the power to the Airport Extreme.  Then start the Mac Pro and see if that resolves the issue.
If needed, perform a Hard reset of the Airport Extreme:

I hope this information helps ....
