OS X 10.4.7 (and Tiger) specific Printer selection for applications

Is there a way to select a specific printer to be used in an application? In my case Filemaker has always been a bit of a bug about selecting printers 'automatically' within a script.
My script in Filemaker is set to use a specific printer which somehow OS X messes up, not because of the default selection, but rather if another script or manually the printer is changed to anything else, the scripted printer is no longer valid. The page set up (also scripted) does not behave this way.
I found this problem in other applications too so it's not just Filemaker. Where Vectorworks uses a printer/page selection from the last saved document, a previous selection of printer in the OS (prior to even starting the app) changes this preference.
So is there a way for OS X to default to a specific printer where no specific user or application selection is made, yet use the user setting or application (if one exists) setting to override the default, maybe in that order?

You're right, this probably would not fit well into a workflow. I don't think you can attach to the command-p menu item, but perhaps Filemaker has some way of controlling the printer. (I don't have FileMaker.)
This may also not be an ideal solution, but you could use the Printer Setup Utility preferences to set that printer as the default printer all the time, as opposed to the "Last Used Printer." That way your FiileMaker script would always work, but you'd have to remember to switch the printer when you want to print somewhere else.

  • Print and Softproof colors are bad for "Application managed color"

Hello... Not sure if my problem is a Mac OS X issue, or a Lightroom issue. Either way I hope it is just user error.
While printing, my prints look good using "printer managed color", both preview and printed output look good. I am used to using "application managed color" and am getting very poor colors, in both the preview and the printed output.
I am somewhat familiar with color management, and understand the basic concepts of profiles.
I have a new iMac 20" display, that is calibrated. I am printing on a HP 8450. It appears that both the printer and LR are trying to manage my color when I am trying to do a "application managed color" print. Not being familiar with OS X, I have not been able to determine how to disable the color management of my printer driver.
If anyone has any suggestions, please help... I have been fighting this off and on all day...
One other thing... off topic, but if anyone knows how to adjust a 20" iMac 20 RGB values, please let me know. I can't see how to manually adjust the individual channels.
    Thanks, Mike

Well, it sounds like you are not getting all your ducks in a row on setting up LR for "application managed color". There aresome excellent step by steps in one or two other threads. A key point is using the individual icc profile for the specific paper not the generic.
To properly calibrate you Monitor you should use a Calibration device, like a Spyder not tweek the numbers by hand/eye.
    It is just user error.

  • Price determination 2 and S -- No material selected for CKMLCP

    Dear all,
We have a case here that raw materials have price determination 2V, semi-finished and finished goods are 2S.
The MM period is now 2011/07.  We tried to run CKMLCP for 2011/06 and system reponded "C+114 list contains no items".
I have searched forum and SAP OSS.  What I found is CKMLCP will not process for 2V.  How about 2S?  Should I change all the settings to 3S instead?
Please let me know if you have faced the same issue before and how you solved it.
    Thanks~
    Best regards,
    Sharon Chen

    Hi,
The materials 2S (price determination 2, price control S)
will NOT be selected for the actual price determination in CKMLCP.
In Material Ledger you may use materials with price determination 2,
price control V or materials with price determination 3,
price control S. In the first case (2V), actual price will be calculated
after each material movement, while in the second case (3S), actual
price will be calculated with the cockpit (CKMLCP) at the end of the
period. Only in this case, price differences are rolled-up to finished
materials when multi-level price determination is run.
Regarding to your problem with transaction CKMM, please keep in mind
that CKMM was created to maintain the Price determination control field and
not the price control only. The reason is a design issue.
If you want to change the material from 2S to 2V you can overcome the
    change in two steps:
    1- change 2S to 3S and
    2- afterwards 3S to 2V
or you can also use transaction MM02 to change the price control from
    S to V.
Please check the notes about transaction CKMM which provide very useful information:
703604     CKMM: When to change price determination '2' to '3'
    384553     Data inconsistencies after CKMM

  • Printing a report and using the print dialog for it

i already have the print dialog vi from NI. I am using the normal report generation toolkit for printing reports. But I want to give the user an option to choose the number of pages and landscape/portrait options. But how do I integrate the 2 so that before printing the user can select these features.

There is an activeX control that will set these settings. It is called IAS Helper COM Component 1.0 Type Library. It operates the Windows printer configuration program. Since another company wrote the code, I do not have the resources to help you use the control, but the attached example program should get you started.

  • Specific Field Selection for Master data

    Hi Gurus,
I am looking for a master data field which is suitable to my requirement.
Requirement : We have GL accounts and loading data into Hyperion. in Hyperion they are doing data summarising GL Accounts to FRP Codes. Lets say we have 2000 GL account and they are reducing to 150 FRP Codes. This FRP contains different description as well. Mapping between GL account and FRP Codes is in Flat File, right now we want to upload FRP values thru this flat file but in the future when we create new GL Account using FS00 we need to update FRP Codes in the respective master data fields.
We have SKA1 and SKB1 (GL account master data tables). Please some tell me which are the field in this tables or any other tables use for my requirement. My client dont want to go for Generic. I m not FI consultant......
    Thanks
    Ganesh.

Do you want to maintain GL Account - FRP Code data  ..? or Just FRP Codes from Flat Files.
If it is just FRP Codes from flat file then when you create InfoObject for FRP code, also create data flow and load the FRP values
My recommendation here is that, instead of maintaining seperatly for GL Account and FRP codes combinations, I am suggesting you go by adding FRP code to 0GL_ACCOUNT infoObject.
when you maintain Enhancement in the R/3 system where you do look up in SKA1 or SKB1 tables ..we are straight way getting even FRP Code from R/3 system. So, when a new GL Account records is extracted to BI system, you also bring the FRP Code for that GL Account (as it populated in the code)
Hope I have said you need otherwise, please give a detail on how you want to maintain with an example..

  • Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing: What functionality is lost when disabling? What else uses them?

Server OS: Windows 2008 R2 Standard
Function: Primary Domain Controller and Print Server
Clients: All are running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit SP1
We're considering disabling the HP Universal Print Driver Language Monitor and in-turn Bi-directional Printing due to potential server spooler instabilities, before we do this the IT Manager wants to be sure:
    1. What functionality is lost when disabling Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing?
    2. What else uses Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing them? In other words what may break?
    3. What specifically do Language Monitors and Bi-directional Printing provide?
    Thanks

    Alan (or anyone else):
We're testing disabling the language monitor/bidirectional printing for one particular printer.
Can I confirm this is the procedure for disabling a particular print queue's Language Monitor and Bidirectional Printing? -
    1. Locate the relevant Language Monitor registry key in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
Either delete or rename the registry key (so it cannot be found), in my case: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\HPMLM121
I renamed it to have the date at the end (HPMLM121_2015-01-29).
    2. Inside the above registry key is a DLL file mentioned under the DRIVER reference. In my case it's called: hpmlm121.dll.
I searched the entire C drive on the server and this was only found in C:\Windows\System32. I moved this elsewhere out of C:\Windows and also renamed the DLL too.
Therefore preventing Windows from being able to find/use it.
    3. I then unticked Bidirectional Printing Support in the Printer Properties Ports tab of the printer in question.
    4. Lastly either restart the server (or stop/restart the Spooler service).
I've done all this and the HP Print Notifications for Replace Cartridge etc... are still active.
    Any idea why this is?
    Thanks

  • OIDH - User specific print control

    Hi Experts,
In OIDH, we used to maintain user specific print control for the combination of Planning Plant & Planner Group.
There following same entry was maintained in 2 different ECC instances(Testing & Quality)
    User - No entry(blank)
    Planning Plant - *
    Planner group - *
    Shop paper - No entry(blank)
    Output device - LOCL
    New Spool Request - enabled
    Print Immediately - enabled
    Delete after output - enabled
In Testing environment, For a released work order, when i select Order-> Print -> Order, a pop up appears showing the entries of Shop papers.
In Quality environment, For a released work order, when i select Order-> Print -> Order, a pop up appears mentioning "No user-specific shop papers are defined".
Could you Pls let me know what could be the reason for the same User specific setting, Testing & Quality instances are behaving in a different way.
I hope the Quality system displays the right output message for the above Config setting.

Please make changes in the following fields
    User - No entry(blank)  Instead of blank  " * "
    Shop paper - No entry(blank) Instead of blank  " * "
Create the transport and move it to Quality and test it.

  • "cgpdftops quit unexpectedly" when drag-and-drop/batch printing in Yosemite

I have an annoying little frustration when printing certain PDF documents in Yosemite. It happens when I drag and drop documents from Finder onto an installed printer--i.e., dragging the document file onto the printer icon that has been copied to the desktop (essentially batch printing). Whenever this happens, I get a "Stopped - 'Filter' failed" error message, along with a "cgpdftops quit unexpectedly" lengthy problem report. After tinkering around for a while, I discovered that this only happens when the document is in landscape mode--if I drag and drop a document in portrait mode, it prints just fine this way. Furthermore, if I actually open the PDF document in Adobe Reader--even the landscape ones--I can print them all perfectly fine that way. It ONLY happens on LANDSCAPE documents when using the drag-and-drop print method. VERY STRANGE!
A little background--I found this out when one of my users was attempting to do this with her newly-upgraded iMac and started receiving this message. She does a lot of batch printing because of the number of files she has to routinely deal with, and this saves her a lot of time over opening each file individually. She says she never had an issue with this when she was on Mavericks, and it only started when she upgraded to Yosemite. I ended up trying this on my own Macbook Pro running Yosemite and was able to replicate the problem on it. I've also replicated the problem on more than one printer of different brands, so I can eliminate that being the source. My user ends up sending the files to her coworker, who is running Mavericks, and is able to batch print the files successfully.
I have been able to whittle it down to the issue simply being printing any PDF file in landscape mode to any printer from any Mac running Yosemite using the drag-and-drop/batch printing method. Numerous Google searches have gotten me nowhere with this. Some point to similar issues which throw this error message, but none specifically point to this particular issue. Certainly I can't be the only person who has tried this...
Does anyone have any ideas?? I'm all out...

How much storage space is left on the boot drive of the Yosemite iMac where the CUPS cgpdftops filter croaks? Are the printer drivers for the problematic printers current for Yosemite. Have you removed and reinstalled current printer drivers for the associated printers?

Of course, but It's not a problem with logical inches per se.
    The
logical inch is just another way of looking at what is meant
    by the
screen dpi value. Scaling problems, with different dpi
    settings, has
always been a Windows problem and results from the way that
    the OS
handles scaling. Fonts scale perfectly. Actual windows, and
    other
containers, don't. This is a problem programmers have
    grappled with
since the first Windows OS. Vista is the first OS to try to
    tackle this
    problem.
    >Thus, percentages or ems work best when cross-platform
    compatibility is
    >desired."
And that is because the users screen dpi, and hence logical
    inches, are
totally irrelevant when specifying ems and percentages.
Ems and percentage equate to a number of pixels, not inches.
The sole purpose of screen dpi setting is to convert anything
    sized in
physical inches into a number of screen pixels. That is the
    _only_
purpose of screen dpi. It's a very simple algorithm.
(physical) inches x screen dpi value = number of pixels
How do _you_ think a font sized in points (inches) gets
    translated to a
specific number of pixels on screen. I'd be interested in
    your answer.
For the screen a conversion from physical inches to pixels is
    always
necessary because, as you say, pixels are the unit of screen
    measurement
but they are not just a "standard" measurement, they are the
    only
consistent measurement. It's not the users program that
    creates pixels
on screen but the Operating System. The program requests the
    OS to
create a given font at a given size and the requested size
    _must_ be in
pixels. Windows can't _directly_ create a screen font that's
    specified
in points (inches) because it has no notion of what a
    physical inch is
on screen. It does know what a logical inch is because the a
    logical
inch is defined by the screen dpi value. That's what the
    screen dpi
value is for. If a browser programmer wants to bypass the
    variability of
screen dpi on different computers then they ignore dpi values
    and work
directly in pixels i.e. in ems or percentage. When ems and
    percentages
are specified one is dealing only in pixels.

    set a
    >font-size of 14px than use units that both you and
    Michael Bowers
    >define as "1/72 of a logical inch".
Of course it makes more sense to set font size specifically
    in pixels
because that's the only unit the OS can use to put something
    on screen.
I can't see where you get the idea that either Michael Bowers
    or I have
said that there is a unit "defined as 1/72 of a logical
    inch". Every
Windows program written takes it that there are 72 points to
    a
    _physical_ inch.

    measurement)

You are implying I've said things which I haven't. I have
    never, at any
time, said one should use points or inches in designing web
    pages. You
seem to have missed the point that what I am doing is
    explaining why you
see the results you do on screen when those unit are used.
    Somewhat more
informed than "Points are only for print because I don't know
    what they
mean on screen, so they must be meaningless".
    >As Eric Meyer says on page 110 of "Cascading Style
    Sheets: The
    >Definitive Guide" (2nd Edition), "points can be a very
    difficult
    >measurement to use in document design."
And again, I've never advocated using them in page design. A
    close
reading, however, from page 83 onwards shows that Eric Meyer
    has an
imperfect notion of the meaning of screen dpi. Heresy!! He's
    hardly
alone, which is why I did a web site.

    >That's why I recommend leaving points for use in print
    style sheets.
    >However, if you enjoy making life difficult for yourself
    by using
    >points for onscreen design, you're perfectly free to do
    so.
Once again, I have never advocated that. You are setting up a
    straw man
to knock down. You can do better than that.

  • Plant Specific Screen Selection Customization

    Hi friends,
I have a question, I've made a change in the related customization step.
IMG-> Logistics-General u2013> Material master -> Field Selection -> Define Plant specific field selection and plant specific screen selection
I deleted one of the status in the field of "maintenance status and "KDEVALBPQSZXCFG" strign became "KDVALBPQSZXCFG"
(In the line for a specific plant, not all plants)
The status was "E" and I would like to learn the effect to that change.
First I expected the system not to allow me to create purchasing view of a material in MM01.
It allowed indeed. Also it didn't asked me to enter an organizational unit like plant.
Meanly, I created a material's purchasing view without entering any plant.
Then I reversed the customization and added "E" to where it belonged before and the string became again  "KDEVALBPQSZXCFG". I tried to create a material again. However the system again didn't asked me any plant.
How can I bring back the old settings? Should'nt this reverse customization normally bring back it?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Best regards,
    Yusuf Gezer

    Hi Sudhi,
yes I am able to make changes through MM02 for this view, purchasing.
By the way I think I just found the solution.
I don't know but somehow during the customization, a check box became active, I realized it while creating a material.
And it remained as checked even if I made the reverse customization.
The explanation for the check box: "It is an indicator that causes the data you have entered to be valid for all material master records from this date onwards; the window for entering organizational levels and profiles is redisplayed only on request."
This lies on the organizational level screen, I saw it when I manually selected that screen.
It seems there is no problem now.
    Thank you for your interest.
    Best regards,
    Yusuf Gezer

  • When will there be fix for AirPrint in Yosemite? I cannot use my HP printer. I have uninstalled/resinstalled everything you can think of. I have deleted and added my printer more time than I can count. I have checked for updates. Nothing has worked.

When will there be fix for AirPrint? Since upgrading to Yosemite I cannot print from my MacBook Air which I use mostly. (I can print from the my old 2005 G5 desktop and iPad2 just fine on the same network.) I could print just fine when I had Mavericks. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun: resetting print system, deleting and adding the printer, checking for updates, uninstalling and reinstalling printer software and folders, turning off modem, router etc. NOTHING works.
The laptop shows that it is printing but nothing happens. Then it says it cannot locate the printer or there is a broken pipe. But it does tell me that I have a low level in one of the ink cartridges (which is true.)
Help! I have warned everyone I know not to upgrade. Is there a way to go back to Mavericks?
