OS X 10.5.5 always forgets Wireless network after bootcamp reboot

I have my network preferences set to "remember network", but every time I reboot from bootcamp to go back to "Mac Mode", I have to re-enter my SSID, security type and passphrase.
The wireless router does not broadcast the SSID. Is that why network restart says it's not there? Since it supposedly "remembered" my preferred network, why doesn't it just try to connect anyway? When I reboot to Windows mode, I have no such problem, it's only returning to Mac OS X.
It's a PITA, and then I always have to adjust my system time because it's off by the UTC-offset amount.

After reading some other threads, I removed "System Preferences" from the dock and now it works!
I read that some other people moved System Preferences from Applications to Utilities, and undoing that solved the problem. I did not move System Preferences, but I did not put it on the dock. Removing it from the dock seems to have solved it. Go figure.
Now, problem number two... the time doesn't get set properly until I select "Open Date & Time..." then it corrects, just by opening that.. I don't have to do anything else.

  • MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5

After upgrading to OSX 10.8.5, my MacBook does not detect any wireless nertworks. My iPad and iPhone work fine, my router has been rebooted, WiFi is turned on, and the ethernet connection is how I am writing this message to you via broadband. There are a half dozen wireless networks in range (according to my iPhone) but the MacBook cannot find the router I am sitting next to. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?

It appears an SMC reset was required:

  • MacBook fails to connect to wireless network after sleep mode

My MacBook fails to reconnect to my wireless network after waking up.
After turning on my MacBook it establishes a decent connection to whatever wireless network I choose (mostly at home). When I close the lid and open it again the network connection is lost and is only reestablished after reboot.
Hopefully someone has a solution as this is very annoying.

Instead of a reboot go to your Wireless Menu icon and select "Turn Airport Off".
Wait a second and "Turn Airport On."
For me this has been a problem for about 2 years. This is much faster than a reboot!

My apple TV disconnects the wireless network after it logs on

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Do you actually see a weak signal shown on the Apple TV when it is connected to your network. The problem may not be a weak signal, it may be interference from other networks or electrical devices.

  • IPad forgets wireless network

We have a wireless network setup where the SSID is not visible and we use WPA-PSK for security.  It's a very long key, but once it's entered, you have access.  If I leave the office and connect at a place like a hotel or coffee shop, when I get back to the office the previous wireless network has to be setup again.  Am I missing something in the setup to get it to retain the information?

To access the wifi in the school, each person must login with their own login and password. Each teacher and student has their own login and password.
No matter what school I go to in the region, the iPad will recognize the wireless and automatically login me in.
We are introducing 15 iPads into my classroom to be used by 5 different classes over the course of the day. When the first student get his iPad, he will log in to the wireless with his unique login and password.
At the end of the period, is there an easy way to take the iPad off the wifi network and 'forget' the login/password of the first student so that the second student can then login with their unique password?
Otherwise, there will be 75 students all surfing the 'net under my identity.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Unable to connect to wireless network after 10.4.8 update

    Hi Guys,
I use Macbook which I have just updated to 10.4.8. After doing the update I can no longer connect to my wireless network. On 1st boot Airport asked to update the keychain. I said yes.
Selecting my network, and entering the WPA key results in "Password for this network is incorrect" which is a load of rubbish as I can connect a PC Laptop to it perfectly. I have restarted the router, put in the key in caps and lower case, and still always the same error message.
Has anybody else experienced this? If so, does anyone know how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

I just brought home a new Macbook with the 10.4.8
system software. I had to reconfigure my wireless
router to "open system" - it still required the WEP
key code, but when it was configured as an open
system instead of an automatic system it allowed the
    Mac to connect.
My other computers still work fine with the new
    router configuration.
    Macbook   Mac OS X
    (10.0.x)
10.4.8 came with your new macbook? or did you update?
the only reason i ask is this was a question from a day or two ago, people were wondering if it were abnormal that new macbooks were still shipping with 10.4.6 even though 10.4.7 was out, and some predicted that once it went to 10.4.8 the shipping software would be updated to the new update

  • IPhone not connecting to WEP 128 Wireless network after 1.0.2 upgrade

    Hello all,
I have the iphone since the last week. I was pretty happy with it until I upgraded the iphone to version 1.0.2.
From that very moment, the WEP Hex/ASCII Key option dissapeared when setting a connection to a wireless network. Mine was working with 1.0.0 and now it does not work.
I am Telecom engineer, and I pretty sure everything is correct. Mi 128 wep key is 13 characters long and (of course) 26 HEX long.
I have tried putting " before and after the ASCII key and also entering a $ sign before the HEX key.
I have also disabled the Auto caps, just in case.
After all this testing and a quick look at google, it seems that there are more people with the same problem.
Could anyone say to me if there is any other way? Or if apple is gonna release a new version with this issue fixed?
    I am quite dissapointed.
BTW: I have tried all the stuff of reseting the router and "forget setting", etc.
BTW2: To switch to WPA may be an option in my network by it is no way a solution as the majority of the public AP use WEP....

I am using a Linksys BEFW11S4 and I've tried to make the WEP key work on and off for the last 2 months while tapping into other people's wifi to get by without it.
Previously, when I chose someone else's secured network from the 'available networks' list, it would open a window and ask for password. But if I selected my own secured network it wouldn't and would just say "unable to join XYZ network".
Here is what I did tonight and I'm not sure which step did the trick, but it's worth a try:
1 - On the router, I went into the Password tab and entered a password. Previously I hadn't been using any.
2 - On the iPhone, I clicked on the little arrow next to my network's name. In the following screen entered the DNS address of my router (on Linksys the address is found on the Status tab).
I now have it connected to my network. I disconnected and reconnected again without having to enter the password, so either it's saving the password someplace or it's the DNS address that did the trick. The iPhone MAC Address shows up in the DHCP Active IP Table of the router and the router is still WEP protected.
I hope this wasn't too confusing. If you reply, please tell me how you feel about the $200 price drop today!

  • Can't connect to any wireless network after waking from sleep

I have a Netgear wgr814 wireless router and a Powerbook 12" 867mhz. A few months ago, every once in a while when the PB awoke from sleep, it would not be able to connect to any wireless networks. My network showed in the airport menu, but the computer would not connect to it. I believe that the network settings show a self assigned IP of 169.x.x.x. Usually I can see 4 networks in the airport menu, but when it gets in this state only mine shows. Nothing I did on the computer side could make the computer reconnect: renew dhcp, restart, reseat airport card, etc.
After trial and error I found that if I restarted my router, the pb would reconnect and all would be well. The problem occurred about once a week for a while. Since resetting the router fixed the problem I thought that it may be my router so I updated the firmware. After doing so, the problem didn't occur for about a month, but now it happens at least once per day. Resetting the router always fixes the problem. I don't have to do anything to the PB. Once the router comes back up the PB obtains its IP and is happy again.
I'll mention that a Dell Laptop on the same network never has any issues and when the PB loses connection the Dell is always fine.
What could be doing this? My PB is over 3 years old, so is the airport card starting to die? That's the only thing I can think of.

    hi there
alright.... I tried a bunch of things and I'm not exctly sure what I did that did the trick, but I got the problem solved. I turned off the WPA encryption on the AP. Then I turned it back on with a different password.
I wonder if the first password I had was too short and that was some how causing confusion.

  • Unable to reconnect to wireless network after closing lid on macbook pro

After installing recent software updates, I am unable to reconnect to my wireless network when I close the lid on my macbook. It says that it is "connected", but I can't access any website, check e-mail or ping any external server.
I've never had a problem before, but now that I've installed software updates in the past few weeks I noticed the problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?
MacBook Pro (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

which ultimately means apple didn't do enough testing before releasing the last patch
This is not always, and may not be, the case. What many don't realise is that many 3rd party developers stray from the 802.11 series specifications in an attampt to boost speed and get one up on their competitors. For instance D-Link, amongst others, use a short preamble setting by default in some of their routers to improve performance. However, this is non-standard and when it comes across wireless network adapters that don't support this then you have problems. They assume that their network adapters are being used for "maximum speed and compatibility". Whether Apple should or should not support a short preamble is another subject altogether.
However, I do agree with you in that Apple should put more work into their Airport software.

  • Airport won't renew DHCP on Wireless Networks (After 10.5.6 update?)

I have tested my macbook on two wireless networks (1 belkin, 1 linksys) and it connects fine to the router, but it won't assign a DHCP. When I connect it directly to the router via ethernet or to the cable modem then the internet works fine.
When I connect to a wireless network, I tried going to pref>network>advanced>tcp/ip and selecting "DHCP" and hitting renew. But it doesn't work and automatically kicks back to "DHCP with Manual IP". I have tried assigning it an IP manually on the network, 192.168.5.3 and subnet mask and all that. But that doesn't work either.
I've done power cycles on both my macbook and router. I always keep the firmwares on both routers up-to-date.
I recently updated my Leopard to 10.5.6, which apparently has an Airport update, maybe that's affecting it?

ive found that the firmwire updates screw things up. "if it aint' broke dont fix it"
_i had all kind of trouble with my airport/network settings not saving come to find out i was correct that the airport card.

  • IPhone "forgets" wifi networks after 3.0 upgrade

Hi all! I did the 3.0 upgrade last night and I'm loving it!!!!! Everything works - including MMS! However, I have one problem. Before the upgrade, whenever I'd wake up my phone, or move from home to work, it remembered my wifi networks and joined them automatically.
It now STOPPED doing that. Even when it sleeps/locks and I wake it up 5 minutes later, I need to MANUALLY go into my settings, search and find my wireless network and then check it to join... funny thing is, it doesn't ask me for a password, it remembers it and joins. It just doesn't seem to remember the network and join automatically.
    Help?

I have the same problem, but the proposed solution here does not work. There is only one network that the iPhone fails to remember - my work wifi that uses WPA Enterprise encryption with EAP TLS.
Connecting to the network is not a problem, all works well, but the phone does not remember the connection as it did under 2.2.1. There is no "Forget Network" at the top of the connection details screen. Other networks seem to work fine, and can be remembered, or forgotten, as per normal. I've reset network settings, which is no help.

  • Can't connect to wireless network after Mac OS update

    I just bought a mid-2007 Macbook (2x2 GHz, 2 Gb), which came with OS X 10.5.1 installed.
I connected to my wireless network (WPA2 Personal) without any problems and ran Software Update. This worked fine, including updating to 10.5.3.
But now I can no longer connect to the wireless network. It either times out when I enter the password, and/or crashes the Network Preferences.
I tried re-installing the system, but the installer said it couldn't install on this mac. That happened both with the 10.4.6 discs I got with the Macbook and with the 10.5 disk that came with my iMac.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi tankfield
Sandra has already addressed the reason why you can't use the wrong CD-ROM to re-install OS X.
However, the reason you had problems in the first place is that the 10.5.3 update contains some unacknowledged (by Apple) issues which cause flaky wireless connection. The same problem also appears on the latest update of Tiger. Apparently, not everyone is affected, but if you are then it's a real issue.
There appears to be no single solution, just several suggestions. Off the top of my head, these are:
    - In your wireless router, switch off Mixed mode and only use G or N
    - Change the wireless channel so it doesn't class with the neighbours router
    - Don't use WEP encryption, only WPA or WPA2 (good advice anyway)
    - Put AirPort first in Network Preferences, and your home network first in Preferred Networks
    - Create a dummy location which is a clone of Automatic
.... and many more - none of which worked for me.
Finally, today I came upon this one which (so far) seems to be working.
    - Start up Utilities/Terminal and type this command EXACTLY followed by return:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0
(It will ask for your password)
In the unlikely event of this working for you, you will need to re-apply each time you reboot.
    Good luck
    Bob

  • No longer able to connect and use internet on any wireless network after upgrading to iOS 6

Everything worked great for the first few hours.  But now whenever I connect to ANY wireless network on my iPad, it connects fine.. When I do anything that involves internet, the wifi logo goes away, and a screen pops up (as if you're using a hotel wireless network) and says "apple - page not found" at the top, and is an apple.com page.  Even though there is no wireless symbol in the upper left corner, I can go to all of the links and everything, but outside of this one window the internet no longer works.
I have NEVER seen anything like this before.
I didn't do anything abnormal that would have caused this.
    Thank you.

  • Airport Express (1st generation) does not reconnect to wireless network after router is cycled on/off

    Operating System: os x 10.9.1
    Airport Utility 6.3.2
    Airport Express 802.11n (1st generation)
Linkus router: Model WRT310Nv2, Firmware Version 2.0.01
Motorola Cable Modem: Model 2210-02, Firmware 7.7.3r5
The Airport Express (AE) is setup to join my wireless network using Airport Utility.  A printer is connected to the AE with a USB cable.  After the setup the AE light is green and the printer can be accessed over the wireless network.
The problem starts if the router is cycled off/on.  Now the AE will not rejoin the wireless network and there is a non-flashing amber light.  If the power to the AE is cycled off/on the AE reconnects to the wireless network.
This is about as handy as a screen door on a submarine.
Is it possible to see the setting of the AE the same way the modem and router settings can be accessed?   Can this issue be fixed?

If they send you a replacement printer it will have ink tanks with it.  You can store the ink tanks from your current printer and use them later on you "new" printer if you wish.  Store them nozzle-up so they do not leak.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Does anyone have trouble connecting to their wireless network, after being logged on for some time? Mountain Lion.

I am having trouble connecting to my wireless network.  It works when I startup my computer but, after a while it can't seem to find the wireless network. I have an Airport Extreme and the light is green. The only way to remedy this problem is to restart my computer. Mountain Lion isn't that great after all not to mention it distorts some images when scrolling. I am kindly asking for some advice, I assume a major update will be coming soon.

You don't by chance have a "invisible" or "hidden" network enabled on the router?
Because Mac's won't reconnect automatically now to hidden network only upon reboots, it's sort of like advertising the hidden network if you take the computer elsewhere.
Also hidden networks are no deterrent to hackers, they see all.
Also check your time and date, make sure they accurate first, then save that, then make sure it's updated via Apple time servers in your general location (System Preferences > Time and Date) If your being kicked off, your DCHP lease might be expiring too early.
