OS X 10.6.3 update delays Sleep and Shutdown execution

Hi,
I updated my mac mini (Late 2009) after a lot of apprehension to the latest 10.6.3 version and find that "sleep" execution has increased from almost instantaneous on 10.6.2 to almost 34 seconds. Shutdown execution has increased from a quick 4 seconds to 36 seconds, boot time has also increased from 32 to 36 seconds. Will someone at Apple please look into this and release a patch - this is most irritating - upgrades are supposed to improve performance and not degrade it.
Can any user upgrading to 10.6.3 confirm these time delays please. Thanks you.

Sorry, I wrote iMac above. I forgot which forum I was in!
When I see that there is something vital, such as a upgrade to Mac OS X or a Security update, I decline allowing SU to do the installation. Then I go to the Apple Downloads page and manually download and apply the update/upgrade. If it is an OS update, I download the larger Combo version. Before I manually install the updates I first shut down all other processes and then use Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions. (Actually, I repair the disk permissions before and after the installation.) I also Verify the disk and if there are issues found, I boot from the install DVD and use Disk Utility in the Installer's Utilities menu to repair the disk. Then I install the update.
To reset the PRAM (re)start your Mac and immediately press & hold, all at the same time, the CommandOption+PR keys until you have heard the startup chime for a second time, then release all of the keys and allow the Mac to boot.
To reset the SMC;
• Shut down your Mac.
• Detach the power cord from the rear of the Mac mini.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Attach the computer's power cable.
• Turn on the computer.
Also repair the disk permissions. Another thing you might try is getting a copy of OnyX and letting it clear out your caches on occasion.

  • Sleep and Shutdown issues after upgrading to Windows 10

Hi there,So I'm having issues with sleep and shutdown after I upgraded to Windows 10, the laptop won't go to sleep or shutdown properly. The screen turns off, but the power LED stays on and the fan as well. If I chose sleep it won't wake up no matter what I try, and I'd have to perform a hard shutdown everytime.Any solution for this problem? Thanks.

**I have posted this in another area with the same issue** YES!!!!! A Solution that worked.  Spread the news.  It has to do with the Intel Virtualization Tehnology. Didn't know what that was until this issue came up in Windows 10. First, find out if this is your issue.   1. I installed the 'Intel Processor Identification Utility' directly from Intel.2. After installation, open the program and go to the 'CPU Technologies' tab.3. If it says 'YES' for Intel Virtualization Tehnology, proceed. Solution...(at least on my system) 1. The next thing you have to do is go into the BIOS.  If you have not done this before, proceed at your own risk.         You need to restart the computer and enter the BIOS (for me I hit F10 at the HP screen)2. Within the BIOS, there is an 'Advanced Options' section3. In this section there is a line for 'Intel Virtualization Tehnology' and it will say enabled or disabled.  My computer said disabled.4. If this is the case, change the option to 'ENABLED'; then SAVE and EXIT from the BIOS.   The Computer will restart and from that point on Shut Down, Sleep, etc. has worked.  WOW this was a frustrating issue. Almost went back to Windos 8.  I take no credit for this solution, I pieced it together from other posts on this issue.  Hope this helps.

  • 10.5.3 Sleep and shutdown issues

I'm truly confused about the current issues I'm dealing with since my choice to upgrade to 10.5.3...
Since I upgraded, everything seemed to be fine until I closed my macbook and moved it into another room just to open it again. What happened? Nothing! That's the problem! The normally pulsing LED on the release button now stares at me with a constant, unchanging glow. I tried to open it and nothing happens! I was forced to hard boot my machine by holding down the power button only to be stuck with a lengthy boot back into the OS. Once I FINALLY got back to my desktop, I was able to hold option-apple-eject to put the macbook into sleep mode. The LED pulsed once again! I thought my troubles were over! Unfortunately, I was wrong. I figured it might be a good idea to cleanly shut down the machine and reboot it to reset the environment. My macbook never shutdown completely! It sat still with a black screen appearing to be off with the LED again.. Constantly glowing, unchanged... no pulsing... I let the machine sit there and do it's thing for several minutes and it never shut down... I was forced to hold the power button down to shut it off once again. Once the desktop arrived, I then tried again to do the apple-option-eject to place it into sleep and it gave me the unchanging, staring glow... Hard boot? AGAIN? What's going on here?
The most confusing part of this situation is it repeated the same symptoms after reinstalling the operating system from a complete erase and install. The only update I performed was the 10.5.3 combined upgrade after installing bare-bones Leopard from the installation DVD.
My kingdom for the ability to install 10.5.2 again! I've never had these issues before and I'm beginning to lose the faith I once had in the stability of this amazing operating system.

I've had the problem where my MBP doesn't wake up from sleep when I closed it recently. I think the problem is that when you close it, it writes all the information to the hard drive so that it can "hibernate". I've found (especially if I have a lot of things open) that if I open it too soon after closing, the best thing to do is close the lid until the light goes from solid to pulsing. This lets you know that the computer is actually asleep. After that, it should be ok to open the lid.

  • Delayed Sleep and Wake on new iMac

Since I got my new iMac about 4 months ago, if I selected "sleep" from the menu, it would sleep immediately. Lately, when I select "sleep" it takes 15-20 seconds before it goes to sleep. Then, this morning, when I tried to wake it up, it took another 15-20 seconds to do so when, in the past, it would wake up immediately also.
Any help as to what's going on?
    Thanks.

I don't think there is a shell solution to make a machine sleep, so you have to resort to Applescript.
Worth a try to log in with ssh and run a script like this:
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to sleep'
If that doesn't work, try the "eppc" protocol:
tell application "finder" of machine ("eppc://" & otherMachine & ".local") to sleep
I have the above statement wrapped in a pinger to report if the machine is online.

    Dear All,
We are planning to send alert via email in case job delayed or long execution time.
    I have followed below steps:
    1) Create event Raise Event when job is delayed.
    2) create job chain with STEP1, Job 1 and assign event in raise event parameter.
    3) Once job chain delayed it should raise events.
    4) Above event should trigger custom email but I can not put the Mail_To parameter as IN parameter. And can not be recognized during
    execution.
It ends with the below error.
    Details:
JCS-122035: Unable to persist: JCS-102075: Mandatory parameter not set: Parameter Mail_To for job 20413

Please let us know if anybody knows how to add Mail_To parameter to script.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jiggi

    Dear Jiggi,
where will you define execution time of particular job? because some jobs will take only 1 or 2 minutes, but some jobs normally take more than hours, so how will you decide execution time of individual jobs?
i thinks you can use P_TO Parameter for sending mail, if you want to add some output log activate spool output script.
    Thanks and regards

  • G4 MacMini won't sleep or shutdown after update to 10.4.8

Since updating using software update to 10.4.8 on the logout screen I mostly used the "Sleep" option after logging out from my account. To begin with things seemed fine, but now, it won't go to sleep. If I click on the button to sleep the computer, the controls get greyed out for about 30 seconds to a minute, then return to their normal state - but the computer does not enter sleep mode.
Shutdown doesn't work either! I had to hold the power switch on the back down for a few seconds to force it to switch off. Interestingly, the internet connection light on the router was flashing irregularly while I was waiting for it to switch off.
I have reset the permissions (only after the install, not before), reset the PRAM, and searched the system preferences to see if something is glaringly obvious as being wrong but have found nothing and no have no further clue what I can do...
Is it related to my not wanting iTunes to provide Album Artwork at all? For some time, every time I opened iTunes it demanded I update my Album Artwork, but I don't want to and don't have an iTunes account. I had put off downloading both 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0 for almost a week - until software update failed to provide a Cancel button for me to refuse again!
How can I get sleep and shutdown to work properly?
MacMini, PowerBook, PowerMac G5 DC   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Mac OS X Server 10.4.8

    Problem Solved!
I copied the combo update over the existing system but this alone changed nothing. Because I was unsure of which of my seemingly many OS X disks to load I rang Applecare (thank God I signed up for the three years of extra phone support - a real bargain) and they suggested I do a PMU reset - after which everything worked fine - so far.
They warned me about not doing a PMU reset very often (I guess the PMU can only stand a certain number of these events before breaking). In order to do one follow these steps:
    1) Switch off computer;
    2) Unplug ALL leads and power cables to the computer;
    3) Wait ten seconds;
    4) Simultaneously hold the power on button down while plugging the power cable in to your Mac;
    5) Connect your other cables.
    6) Switch on and go.
For me, this fixed all my other problems - Sleep, Restart, Shutdown, Printing, iSight, Internet connection speed, Quick Time performance, and so far I haven't seen anything else wrong to fix. Hopefully there won't be anything else to fix!
If anything does go wrong after this, I will do the Archive and Install, which was the next suggestion from Apple which I did not need to do. So far.
Thanks to all those who gave suggestions, I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Mac

  • Trying to understand Android OS updates delays

This is not another hate mail, it´s more about trying to understand the facts and motives regarding the OS updates (or lack of).
Hopefully this material will arrive at someone from Sony with enough power to do something about it.
Ever since I can remember, Sony has been THE brand for electronics. I can´t remember a TV or VCR in my house that it wasn´t Sony, and they lasted for LOTS of years.
When a couple years ago I finally had the money (and the need) for a Smartphone, i chose the X10 Mini, which is a great little phone from a great brand, but it´s stuck at Android 2.1... which makes it a crippled android nowadays...
It really bothered me the lack of OS updates, so I chose to buy a Galaxy Nexus, but it´s really expensive in my country. So my second option was a Galaxy Ace 2, but they haven´t arrived to my country yet, so I went with my third option: Xperia Sola, knowing beforehand that it´s a great phone, a great brand, but I might get slow OS updates.
I bought it about 10 days ago when I saw they were starting to roll out the updates.
10 days later I still don´t have my update. And not only that, but I don´t see much light at the end of the tunnel...
I found a thread with the SI numbers that were updated, and there were a bunch on Oct 1, another bunch on Oct 4, and one code on Oct 8, and no other update since...
I also read that those who did get the update, were having bugs with the OS, and also found threads from other Xperia models, whose updates began rolling 3 months ago, and there is still people who hasn´t gotten the update...
As a customer, and a owner/CEO of a small company, I have a really hard time understanding how a HUGE company like Sony can be making such mistakes...
I have been thinking objective reasons, and I can only think of one. I know it´s a wild guess, but I´m starting to think that our salvation might be the very thing that means our condemnation: CYANOGENMOD!!!
Think about it: Why would Sony spend more money hiring twice as much programmers, when they can make only one update per phone, and sit down and see how CM releases begin to appear, for all tastes and needs. And... IT´s FREE!!!
Also, if there is a software related problem (way more likely than a hardware problem), then the CM developers take the fall, instead of Sony. And I´m beginning to see custom OS installers that are more user friendly, so it might be something that they take in accout when neglecting OS updates.
If that´s the line Sony is following, it´s a very risky move and it won´t work. Sony Mobile will crash and burn, but it´s still a better business plan that "let´s get lazy and make ULTRA slow updates so we don´t spend a lot of money programming".
If you can´t afford more programmers, stop including so much bells and whistles and make your OS near vanilla. Include a couple of Xperia menus, a custom theme and voila!
The main reason I wanted the Galaxy Nexus is Vanilla OS, which means inmediate OS updates. Sony on the other hand, takes a year or two to release it after its launch. If they release it at all...
Another though...  why not stop making that many different phones! Really! There are like 5 Xperia models i can´t tell one from the other... even with specs side by side!
You are trying to make too many phones and you are failing with all of them! (Software and software updates are also part of the phone, one of the most importants...)
I know hiring programmers is expensive, but you are sacrificing one of the most expensive values for a company EVER: Customer credibility! Which as you know better than me, takes years to create.
If Apple had problems with carriers and code aprooving and stuff, they might get away with it, becouse they alone have all the devices. If iOS 6 is delayed a few months, it´s delayed for everyone, and besides Apple fanboys rarely complain about Mac products, but Android is a more independent and educated market.
I´m not saying that Apple users are ignorant, not at all, but I´m pretty sure most iPhone owners don´t even know what processor or how much RAM their phone has. They just "swallow" the Apple Way of Life. (it´s a good phone becouse Apple says so).
The Android user on the other side, because of the fragmentation of the market, has many brands and models to choose from. An Android user about to buy a new phone will most likely go online looking for different models, specs, reviews in webs and forums...etc.
You can´t say "I don´t know how HTC and other companies get their updates so soon, but we take a lot more becouse Google and the Operators must aproove the code.", because there are many other brands that have exactly the same difficulties or more, since they are smaller, and we can SEE online that they are indeed delivering solid and relativly fast updates.
Did we miss something? Does HTC use Witchcraft to get their code aprooved?
My underlying point is this: You are getting lazy... VERY lazy with software programming for your phones, and WE KNOW IT!
It´s not the "difficulties" you claim, becouse every brand has those difficulties.
This isn´t 1999 you know. We are in the information age. If you lie to us and tell us that your phones have the latest OS, I can go online and see that you don´t (Hello!!!). If I see that the company lies to it´s customers, I will stop buying their products. If I´m so dissapointed with how Sony handles OS updates and their customers queries about it, then I want for the first time ever to sell my Cell Phone becouse I´m not happy with it, or the brand behind it.
We also live in the "Here and now" age. You can´t expect your customers to read about new Android releases on news and blogs, and wait YEARS with arms crossed waiting for their update... The world doesn´t work like that. Not anymore at least...
It´s not a matter of how many recources you have, it´s about how you use and balance them. GIVE MORE IMPORTANCE TO SOFTWARE UPDATES! IT´S WAY MORE IMPORTANT THAT YOU THINK! LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!
You guys are Sony are smart and design great products, but you are not GOD! You are not our wife, no one has sworn alliagence to you.
If you stop giving us good products and start lying to us, we hate you and stop giving you our money. Simple as that.
My sola is beatiful, I love the design, the screen, the hardware... but it hasn´t been updated yet to 4.0, not to mention 4.1, which REALLY is the latest version... so stop advertising that your phones have the latest Android OS, unless you want angry customers switching to other companies, which you are getting.
I also read some stories that Androind 4.0 was announced for the Xperia PLAY, and then it was called off... Do you have any idea how pissed I would be and ripped off I would be if I bought my phone based in that information and then you say it won´t be available?
Well, actually right now my possition is worse, since you SAY you will update my phone, but you don´t say when, and I read online about people still not getting their updates months after the rollout started, so I´m in the limbo right now...
As a company, one of the worse things you can do is calling your customers stupid, and when I see the answers you give in this forum, then I feel insulted. I feel like they are talking to an idiot or ignorant person with the so called "diplomatic" answers, which are basicly empty excuses for not doing your job right.
You gave us the frikking CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays!!! Don´t tell us you can´t tweak an already built OS in a year!
I really hope you change their OS update policies really soon, before you lose the already small cellphone market share you have, or at least change your P.R. and C.M. policies towards a more open one.
We all are humans and make mistakes, but we customers really appreciate honesty and truth.
Have an open conversation with your customers! Don´t lie about your shortcomings! Accept then and ask the community to help you solve them, ask them what they biggest problems are, what features are most important to them, how often do they expect updates... LISTEN TO THEM!!
"Succes is a meneace. It tricks smart people into thinking they can´t lose."
Ps: Nothing personal with the mods from this forum, I´m not killing the messenger, I know that you can ONLY give the info you are allowed to give, and even if you wanted, you probably don´t know the answers yourself, since you work in the Communications department, not Developement or anything technical, and if you can't give any given info, then they probably won´t give it to you either... My message is to the company as a whole. I just hope you will be a good messenger and give this to whoever needs to read it.

My bad, it´s closer to 40 the number of phones released hehe
I know it´s all about money, and I know Sony is obligated to neglect users who haven´t given them money after an x ammount of time. However, it´s not a matter of making the phones obsolete earlier, so the users want to buy a new phone faster and therefore getting more money.
A person will buy a new phone when he/she has the money to do so and wants to do so.
It´s not a matter of WHEN. It´s a matter of WHAT.
The question is not "When will that user buy a new phone?", but rather "When that user buys a new phone, whenever that is, what phone will it be?"
I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. I would never use a iPhone. I would love having any Mac, if someone gives it to me, but I would never spend my harn earned dollars on such an overpriced piece of hardware over general principals.
However, i do recognice that Steve Jobs was a business genius. Weather you like or love his ideas and methods, he turned a garage project into the biggest company in the world, with a market value higher than Exxon with 1/3 of it´s assets.
Apple is a money making machine, and that is where the "hate" part of my relationship comes from.
However, it surprised me a lot to see that they released iOS 6 for the iPhone 3GS, released in 2008!
That get´s you thinking, that inside all that "SELL NOW" culture Apple is, they also support their older devices that people bought years ago but can't buy a new phone now. However, when they can do it, it will surely be another iPhone. Because they FEEL that the company listens and cares for them.
Also if you jump from iOS 6 on the 3 GS to a brand new iPhone 5, the transition will be virtually non-existant, except for Siri and a couple of features.
However jumping from Android 1.5 or 2.1 to Jelly Bean, might not be so easy on some users, making them more likely to give iPhone a shot.
Since they have to adapt to another phone anyway, they might as well try the apple...
And for old users, it gives people a sense of continuity and care about the user. Otherwise we feel like being kicked out of a restaurant right after we payed the bill.

  • Sleep and Hibernate does not work after BIOS update X1 Carbon 20A8

As subject title, did a recent Lenovo "System Update" on BIOS and other drivers, and since then sleep and hibernate no longer works, when i close the lid, it turns on by itself after 2 seconds.
When i select Sleep or Hibernate in Windows 8.1 with lid open, it just behaves like a Restart command.
    Need this fixed! Any ideas?

Try downgrading to your older BIOS and see if it works again.

  • "Update Delayed" while saving an Asset Master

    Hi,
When I am changing an Asset master(AS02) it doesn't change and I get a message on status bar "Update Delayed". I debugged the standard program and everything goes fine but when it encounters "Commit work" statement it gets hanged and gives message "Update Delayed".
    Any pointer is appreciated.
    Thanks & regards,
    Deepak

Update delays sometimes mean that there is a queue waiting at the UPD task.  Go to SM51 and check to make sure that there are no other tasks waiting to be processed.  Check with you Basis group - they might be able to run some diagnostics on the update task.

  • Symbian Belle update delayed again?

Man Nokia have really become pathetic. Before anyone starts bashing me, like I said in my previous post I am a loyal Nokia customer, I have had all kinds of different Symbian phones and have a N8 here in the US where Symbian is dead and almost nobody knows of Symbian. Not only have Nokia fallen from the throne as mobile kings but their employees here are anything but helpful, if you get disappointed that Belle is delayed you are told to leave and join an Apple forum or you are told that Belle will be released in Q4 2011 and then it gets delayed to Q1 2012.
    1. First of all Belle brings features that other OS have had for over a year now so it's not bringing anything new at all cause if it was then the delay would be justified.
    2. We are closely going into 2012 and Nokia still producing phones like X2-05 or with s40 to compete with dual core phones. Nokia has yet to produce one 4G phone while others have done that in the beginning of 2011. Up until September Nokia didn't even have a 1GHz phone available while others have tons of dual core phones in the market.
    3. When polls/statistics are conducted showing which operating system people use more, Symbian doesn't even appear in the US region (probably under "Others") and it is no longer number one in Europe or Asia. Even in Finland Nokia has lost 50% of it's market meaning that only 30 something % of people use a Nokia phone, how embarassing.
    4. For anyone who is going to say that you only pay for the phone and it's current OS, not for updates, well I suggest that they wake up and realize that we live in 2011 and not 2004 anymore. Software updates are mandatory to all electronic devices, please name one TV, cellphone, game console etc that does not offer software updates at all and only has the original software to offer. NONE! Softwares always get updated because of new features that come out and to fix bugs, Nokia is way behind with features and it has thousands of bugs/glitches so yeah, updates are mandatory!
    5. It is really a shame that Nokia has left the Symbian OS totally behind. All the Nokia blogs and pages talk about WP7, the Nokia World Conference this October hardly even mentioned Symbian. Symbian has brought Nokia where it is and look at how it's being handled. Pathetic.
    6. Nokia N9? Genius and the most stupid thing ever done by Nokia. The phone is excellent, unique and it can outsell all the Androids and iPhones out there and yet it is given an OS which Nokia itself will not develop. How to you expect something so great and awesome to sell when it's the only current generation phone out there with Meego and you declare that you will not make any other Meegos or develop the one you have? Stupid stupid stupid.
    7. Anna was announced back in March/April and still hasn't been received by all regions, Belle was announced in late August and no time soon will it get released.
I dont know what's happened to this great company. Using out of date services and softwares, delaying updates with features already in the market and most importantly zero customer service. Like I said, wake up Nokia cause times have change, you can no longer be in the market thinking that people use phones like N95. I had never considered having any other phone besides a Symbian phone but delaying Belle was the last straw. I defend Nokia here in the US where they decided to pull out 6 months ago but I have basically run out of facts and arguments to defend Nokia. I will forever be a Nokia fan and even though I am looking for another phone, the only two options are Nokia Lumia 800 or 710 becuase like I said above I am a loyal customer.

    1. Many OS's have after all copied Nokia to start with, and considering Belle for symbian ^3 has not been officially released as yet, it hard to say exactly what will be included. Even those who have used the unofficial versions have said that it has changed 3 times now.
2.Nokia produce many more phone than any other manufacturer, which means if someone wants something that works like a phone they can buy it, if they want something that is more like a PC they can buy it also. Most other companies have a few phones and if they don't suit you then tough luck.
3.Much of the press have stated that symbian has been around since the beginning, and can't look beyond their own noses, to see how flexible symbian can be. After all this time Iphones with there so called revolutionary OS has only now received OTA updates.
4.Yes updates are good things, and yes they are offered as you said to fix bugs and to apply no features, however you still don't buy a phone in the beginning due to some feature that may or may not appear in a future update. You still buy the phone for what it currently does.Nobody knows the future!!! and for you to suggest otherwise is just purely ridiculous. Software updates are not mandatory, they, as YOU said, are OFFERED by the relevant company, you don't have to install the update and nor do companies HAVE to give you an update, they do give them because it makes economical sense for them to do so, having said that there will come a time when updates will NOT be offered for the particular phone or whatever.
5.Agreed I would like to see them develop it further.
6.The N9 does look a very nice phone, Not having used Meego however it is hard for me to say one way or the other. But I do think its silly to produce one phone with an OS and then just dump it, before its had a chance.
7.As far as Anna not being received by all regions, mostly this is purely a carrier issue. The carriers have said NO or just have not completed testing etc. I know Telstra Australia received Anna back in June/July and didn't agree to it until December, however other Australian network operators agreed much sooner. These kinds of issues with carriers cannot be controlled by Nokia. It certainly wouldn't surprise me after everyone on here complained about it not being released worldwide in one go, if nokia got all the approvals first then did a single release. I'm not saying this is what they are doing of course only that if they did it wouldn't surprise me.
Personally I have no issue with customer service at least not here in Australia with Nokia. Frankly judging by some peoples attitude on this forum, and I'm not pointing at anyone in particular, I have to wonder why they are here. I do belong to some other forums and honestly I have never seen people whinge and complain like they do on here, which I think is a real shame. These people don't seem to realize that this is a user forum, that happenes to be hosted on the nokia servers, designed to allow users to help other users. I feel quite sure if people made reasonable suggestions for products and services, instead of opening the same type of threads over and over again, then we would have more Nokia involvement in the forum and we could even have the opportunity to influence the powers to be, to include some of the things that we think are worthwhile. But hey its easier to whinge and complain than to use their brains to come up with something constructive.

  • Update delay simulating

    Hello all,
we have the following situation. From the repair order a service order is created. As per standard SAP u can configure the service order is released during it's creation. But due to certain reasons we are not using the SAP provided configuration for auto release. Instead we have recorded a BDC so that if a certain condition is met the service order will be released. Now the problem is that this BDC is running even before the service order creation is complete. Sometimes the complete updation of the service order in the database is not yet complete. Meanwhile this service order is being tried to be released. This is causing a failure and hence the service order is left unreleased.
Now, we are trying to fix this situation. But my problem is that how can I test this? How will I know if my solution has fixed the problem? How can I simulate such update delays?
    Eagerly awaiting answers.
    thanks
    Bala

    hi
this may happen due to that same time u r trying to update fields which are in same table that first update happened and second update not happened due to transaction commit.
    Use
    wait upto 5 sec.
    after first update then
    commit work.
    then second update.
Hope now u got the problem.

  • Kill session through batch file but with DELAY/SLEEP

    respected forum members,
    i have a database 9i release 2 on windows server 2003.
as we r working in a territory where load shedding (electricity failure) is big problem intervaly. as users r working so there computer shutdown while they are working when there is power failure.
about 250 sessions are opened in peak hours and i want to kill these sessions.
so i want to write a batch file which kill session but at the same time I WANT TO PUT DELAY IN THE BATCH FILE which delay for 2 seconds after killing 20 sessions.
can any body help me to write such a batch file which delays for 2 seconds after killing 20 sessions. HOW to insert DELAY/SLEEP in batch file.
    thanks

I'm not sure I understand the point of this script. If the power fails and the server goes down, obviously all sessions will be killed. If the power fails and the client goes down leaving database sessions, you would generally want to enable dead connection detection or limit the idle time of a session in the profile so that Oracle can automatically kill those sessions. Manually killing sessions should be a last resort.
If you really want to write this sort of script, could the batch file simply call DBMS_LOCK.SLEEP to implement the delay? Or do you literally mean that you only want the delay to come from an operating system call?

  • Update delay

    Hello all,
I am getting the problem that when i am saving any document in my system the after clicking the post button
give messege that " update delayed .please wait"
    what to do?

you don´t need to remove the dump - but the cause of it.
A program is dumping when it has errors. Post the first pages of the dump here and we can see if we can help.
