OS X 10.6.7 vs NDAS

I installed the update to 10.6.7 a couple of days ago and at first noticed nothing strange at all.
Last night when I went booted my MacBook I left it alone and went to do other things. Returning a couple of hours later the finder had still not launched even though applications were available in the Dock.
After several panics, re-boots and wishing I had hair left to rip out I noticed others were having issues with NDAS devices.
Yes, there is some conflict that need to be fixed, and the short term solution is to shut the drive off or access it via an alternate port.
It does seem that the Windoze formatted drive I use at work had no issues while the Mac formatted drive at home has some conflict that needs addressing - really soon. Both drives are identical with the exception of the format.
My NDAS devices are in IOCELL

Or hopefully just wait until IOCELL releases a fully debugged, final release version driver for Snow Leopard. I notice from http://www.iocellnetworks.com/support-main/#Drivers that the available Snow Leopard driver is still a beta version.
Personally, I would not trust my data to such a device if it required a beta version driver, even if it appeared to be working OK with 10.6.6. That's because in the computer industry the "beta" designation means the software may still have known bugs or not be fully tested -- essentially that you use it at your own risk.
If it were me, as a temporary workaround I would remove the beta driver & attached the device directly to the Mac via a USB port, & if necessary use File Sharing to make its contents available to other computers on my local network (which of course means that Mac has to be powered up for the other computers to access those contents). I don't know if that would work for you, but if it might you might want to check the first item in the "USB / eSATA" section of http://www.iocellnetworks.com/support-main/ ("After plugging into the USB or eSATA port I cannot see NETDISK in My Computer") for some tips about the requirements for that setup.

  • Trying to use NDAS!!

    Hello all,
Got myself a wireless Mediagate 350HD and can see the HD (298GB) on my mac in the NDAS utility however I never see the HD on the macbook desktop.
Had a system failure (i guess) and i cut/pasted the "Problem report for max 0s X" pop-up which appeared after I was forced to restart my Black Macbook.
    ================
Question (after all this).... is why can I not see the NDAS on my desktop?
    Thankyou

I am trying to use NDAS and am connected via wireless to Mediagate 350HD. Must say I cannot see the FAT32 298GB HD on the Mac even though it appears in the NDAS utility as a Read-Write. No one else is on this wireless network. it is secured. Thanks

Perhaps you have to "connect to server" from the finder/go menu first. I have a wired network drive and that is the method for connecting to it.

  • E-Sourcing NDA's

Our company is using E-Sourcing and our buyers are asking me if there is a way to manage Non-Disclosure Agreements in E-Sourcing  The NDA is a form that we ask our suppliers to sign before we do any business with them.  Does anyone know if there is a way to manage these NDA's in E-Sourcing?
    Thank you,
    Mauricio

As James mentions above, many companies are managing NDA's as contract documents in Master Agreements, leveraging full capabilities of E-Sourcing/CLM solution.    (including buyer/supplier check-in/out capabiliities, storage of signed documents, approval workflow, and managing amemdement processes.)
If you specifically want to allow suppliers and internal users to "sign" the document using their "mouse" on the screen, then you will need to have a digital signature solution.    We have several customers who are working with a couple of third party digital signature solutioin providers and our development team has been supporting the integration.   We are planning to offer these solutions as a certified partner solution in the future.
    Thanks,

  • Logging in NDA-like Message Prompt

Recently we had a new message prompt appear for SAP when logging in warning them about data privacy and making them accept before continuing with the login. This bought up several questions internally. One was of course what was this message and how was it activated? SAP pointed us to the below message detailing the intent but it doesn't give us a transaction. Does anyone know how this message as activated and how the content is managed for the display?
    SAP Note: 167319 https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361706E6F7465735F6E756D6265723D3136373133313926
Second, it also prompted the question of would an NDA be required. Was curious what your companies stance were on requiring anything additional beyond SAP's privacy statements. Are there any legal or special considerations that made you consider an additional NDA warning above and beyond SAP's promise documented in the linked note above?

  • Directory Server & NDA: modifications or permission problem?

My predecessor replaced the "change password" page in the IDA. The original page is still at the original location, so I wonder if it was changed in a servlet or config-file (searched, but didn't find it).
Accessing the original page (/nda/change.htm) doesn't work . I'm not sure if it's because I access it without logging in on the "normal" login page(but I have to enter my login info to change the password), or if it's because of permissions in ldap (to change your own password), but I didn't find such restrictions.
    Versions:
    Sun-One Directory Server 5.2
    iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2

    Hi Gary,
I believe this is a known issue when starting Directory Server after a reboot as the check of PID does not verify that the process is in fact ns-slapd.
The work-around is to delete the pid file. And then restart the server.
    regards,

  • Connecting TC as a Wireless NDAS or Wireless NAS

A week ago, I have purchased the TC in order to connect it as a Wireless NDAS (or NAS) within my home network. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, so I used the AirPort Utility V 7.6.1 to configure it. I am an IT Admin (Windows and Mac), and I will try to summarize it as easy as possible.
Problems I found with my TC:
    First "Surface Temperature"
When placed my hand over the Surface temperature is high. Is that normal?
Second "TC Setup with the Airport Utility"
When connecting the TC to the network (with an Ethernet cable), my home network started to work extremely slow. I Ping(ed) the WiFi Router and found an average response time of 2500 ms. Disconnecting the TC from the Network, response time lowers to 1 ms. At this moment, the TC was not configured yet. Is that normal that the TC broadcasts high traffic when connecting for first time?
Configuring TIP: "After configuring using the AirPort Utility"
In order to create a Wireless NAS, I configured the "Wireless Mode" with the option "Extend a Wireless Network", and in the Internet section, I configured a manual IP Address for the TC. After updating, it is possible to access the TC as a Wired NDAS (or NAS).
After pressing the Update Button, network traffic continues high!!!!
Third: "Disconnecting the Ethernet cable from the TC"
Once I disconnected the cable, Broadcast traffic lowers to 1 ms (pinging Router and TC). Now I have a perfect Wireless NDAS. I can access the drive within the network witn no cables connected to the TC device. The problem comes after a while, when suddenly, the WiFi connection to the TC is lost. Could last 20 minutes connected, or 2 days connected. There is not an exact time on how it keeps the TC connected to the network. Any Idea?
To restore the connection I have to connect an Ethernet cable from the TC to the network, run the AirPort utility, wait about 5 minutes, Rescan the TC, or sometimes I have to connect to the TC, using its IP address, and then, when Rescan gives information about the drive, I can disconnect the Ethernet cable and the drive keeps its WiFi connection for the amount of time I wrote you in previous paragraph .
I´ll appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

Yes, they run pretty hot.. it is much hotter inside of course. It is going to make it live to a shortened lifespan.. Looking at your location.. Panama.. my vision is steaming jungle.. well steaming suburban area.. Take steps now or return the TC as unsuitable.. which it is. You must get some airflow through it. At the very least pull off the rubber mat.. carefully and place the TC on feet.. if you look at the bottom the mat half blocks the inlet air vents.. the outlet is a tortous path gap around the top quarter of the TC. Placing the TC on a netbook cooler would be idea.. don't power it from TC usb though. You will need a bit of fancy work to get the TC up off the surface with a gasket around the outside edge.. you need it sealed so air is force through the TC.. much quieter btw if you go backwards.. ie laptop cooler to suck air through the TC not try to blow air through it.

There are issues particularly with windows.. you will need to do the setup .. ensure everything SMB compliant.. names and workgroup setting. The default wireless names etc.. all can be issues. Firmware should be either latest or if possible to go back to 7.5.2 do so.. it is no advantage to you using latest firmware which is for icloud connection.

You cannot extend wireless from any brand router but an apple. You need to use ethernet and connect to the TC and use it to create a wireless network..
If you use Join a network, it will turn off the ethernet ports.. extend does not.. although that confused me for a long time. painful though as apple will not work with another brand router.

Interesting as now I have no idea how you managed to get the TC into the network.. but I have found you cannot have two connections to the TC at once... ie don't use ethernet and wireless as the transfer speed goes slower than one or the other.. it seems to confuse the computer which is the higher priority connection.
No wireless bridge system.. imho is robust.. if the main router loses connection to the TC for any reason, it usually requires a restart to get things stable again.. but don't worry.. even Mac users with Lion experience this all the time. the TC disappears from their network even though they have internet connection.. a reboot of the TC daily keeps all the network ARP tables happy.

  • What's with this NDA??

    Hi,
Can someone tell me when this NDA thing for the iPhone SDK would be gone? I am just sick of it as it prevents anyone from sharing any code/tutorials/samples. I wouldn't mind the NDA, if Apple had made a good job in posting descent samples for the Interface builder. Honestly, it took me almost three weeks to write a simple basic app that uses IB + Xcode (Thanks to all people who helped me).
And finally, it's very strange to me that most of the questions posted in this forum are unanswered. Is it because people are afraid of NDA or they themselves have no clue or they don't want to share?
I appreciate Google in this, they did a great job with their SDKs. I was an active developer of GWT, Maps API and GData and the support I got from Google was incredible.
Apple, please help new developers like me

Probably because they have no clue. I barely have time to do any Mac development, let alone iPhone. The iPhone SDK is brand new. Nobody knows anything.

When was this? The month after Google Maps SDK was released? You just need to give it some time.

You have at least 1/3 of the WWDC this year. What more do you want? I was thinking about going to the WWDC this year but I'm not interested in the iPhone. I'm thinking I might wait until the hype dies down.

  • Time Machine vs. NDAS+MacFuse+NTFS-3G

I just connected my NDAS -enabled external drive, NTFS formatted, through my home LAN to my brand new MacBook Pro 17 Unibody and through the last *Ximeta driver* + MacFuse + NTFS-3G I can easily read and write on it.
Unfortunately, *Time Machine* does not see it!!!
Any advice that does not require to format the drive?
I have too many data on it to format it...

A day or so ago a new SATA drive enclosure by IOCELL was announced. It uses USB, eSATA, and Gigabit networking via an NDAS driver for Mac that comes with the product. Perhaps this could solve the problem or even replace the solution you're trying to make work. Best of all, no hacking required.
That may work to a degree. It may do backups, and you may be able to use +Enter Time Machine+ to browse and restore from them.
A future OSX update may, of course, render that useless.
Worse, you *will not* be able to use that setup to restore your entire system from backups when your hard drive fails.
That procedure requires booting from your Leopard Install disc and using the installer on it to locate and restore from your backups. Since the special driver isn't on the Apple Install disc, those backups will be invisible.

No, you will have to request a platform swap and give up use of your old serial number. You can keep your current version of CS6 and buy the CC version of Photoshop which is cross platform.

  • Ndas using HFS capable? External hard drive Network Attached.

I did a search and didn't find what I needed.
I would like to know if typical external hard drive enclosures with ethernet connections (NDAS) can be formatted to HFS. I've seen that you can use Ximeta Inc. software for NDAS using 10.4 but I can't find if I can format that drive to HFS.
Reason? I've heard HFS is much faster and more flexible for large files (4gb+) and large hard drives under a mac OS. If my files are less than 4gb, is FAT32 going to be slower than HFS? I know NDAS can take FAT32 but wasn't sure about the HFS.
If there is no speed difference on a 802.11G network from a FAT32 formatted disk to a HFS formatted disk I guess I'll just format is FAT32 just in case I bring a pc along in the future. I just want the fastest speed for video streaming.
    Thanks!

in my opinion the protocol is more of an issue than the drive format. Like was said above you can typically format to whatever type of drive you want as long as there is a utility to do so or you can mount it via usb/firewire as well. That said if at all possible id stik with hfs+ or ext3 .
Personally i will only use NFS and AFP because of ccertain things (mainly character limits) and ive been hard pressed to find NAS that supports these well (and also supports RAID5 and has at least 4 bays). So now im thinking about actually building a stripped down box and running a Linux distro on it. Although ive heard bad things about netatalk (appletalk for linux) so i don tknow... im aways awa from having the cash to do either though so ive got some time to make a decision.

  • NDA Servlet API

Are there any docs around that describe the NDA servlet API? Looking to automate some of the NDA functions (user create/delete/modify/purge) from a Perl script on another system.

That api is not published. . .
    You have two choices:
    1. Become familari with the Schema Guide, and the Provisioning Guide, and roll your own, perhaps with Perldap,
    or
    2. Automate with the command-line tools that DA uses. That's really all it does, is use those command-line tools.

  • How Do I Mount A NDAS Drive?

I just bought a Noontec Network Directed Attached Storage (NDAS) that allows Mac computers to access external drives wirelessly via the LAN.
On the Powerbook G4, I installed the NDAS Utility that allows the registering of the NDAS drives and initialized (formtted) it from there. Now everytime the Powerbook starts, the 3 partitioned drives are automatically mounted on my desktop. This is perfect.
But the NDAS utility fails to locate register the drives on the MBP after entering the device ID and write key. Is there a way I can actually 'see' the NDAS drives by some other method?
P.S. The NDAS does not appear to require the assignment of an IP address. Although I did forcibly reserve an address for it against its MAC address, on the router. Still didn't work thought. Tried afp:// and nfs:// through Finder and that won't work too.

OK - found out the answer.
Noontech uses Ximeta drivers. The provided drivers work with the PB G4, but not for the MBP. Don't ask me why.
I downloaded the latest drivers from Ximeta and the MBP NDAS Utility works!
Updated the stock drivers on the PB G4 and it continues to work too.
Beautiful, but on Mac OS X systems, only 1 system can mount the NDAS storage at any time. If you wish to know - Ximeta is finding a workaround/solution to this issue.
