OS X 10.8.3 Display Resolution Issue

Ever since updating to 10.8.3, there has been a sporatic resolution issue when waking my MBP. My mid 2009 13" MBP operates in closed lid mode while connected to a 21.5" monitor. My machine frequently wakes to a completely incorrect resolution that is many times the size of my display. It fixes to the correct resolution if I simply sleep and wake again, or correct it via System Preferences, but having to do this several times becomes quite annoying. Anyone else experiencing this bug and/or have any ideas on its resolution?

  • 3rd Party Display Resolution Issue - Mid 2011 iMac 27inch Mavericks- iMac wont allow max resolution of Samsung SyncMaster SA850

    Hi Guys,
I just updated my 27 inch iMac to Mavericks and can't get my third party 27inch Samsung screen to run at maximum resolution. Even when using the "Alt" Click and select Scale shortcut I cant display the 2560 x 1440 resolution the screen is capable of.
I've called apple support and they couldn't rectify the issue nor could samsung. I've even tried the monitor in another iMac updated to mavericks and have the same issue.
Im connecting using a mini display port to DVI cable through my thunderbolt port.
My machine is Mid 2011 27inch iMac 3.1ghz core i5 with AMD Radeon HD graphics card upgraded to Mavericks
Monitor is brand new 27 Samsung SyncMaster SA850. I was able to get it to work at max resolution on a Windows 7 PC.
Any help would be appreciated. Thinking of returning the screen, hopefully Samsung will take it back.

The standard > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter only supports 24" monitor resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
For a larger monitor you need either a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
or perhaps a simple Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable if your monitor supports DisplayPort input.

  • MSI Twin Frozr OC Radeon 7870 Display Resolution issues

    Howdy all,
Just got the above card (Radeon 7870 Twin Frozr OC) and I'm having issues connecting 2 monitors.
I was originally using a regular DVI cable that went from my 30 inch dell monitor to the new card and since I didn't have a DVI to HDMI cable or any micro cables I wasn't able to hook up my 25 inch Acer monitor (the card has 4 display ports, one regular DVI, a regular HDMI, and 2 micro ports).  I got the cable I needed to hook up the DVI input of the monitor to the hdmi output of the video card.
The problem is now my 30 inch dell monitor will not display 2560x1600 or anything above 1200x800 while the Acer is hooked up.  I have tried using the new hdmi on both monitors and the Acer is still outputting 1900x1080.  So the cable is fine.
I am using a Dell T7400 that has a 1000w rated power supply.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

One more bit of information.  When I have the dell monitor connected with the HDMI cable it doesn't even give me the option for resolutions higher than 1200x800.  When I the Acer 25 inch plugged in through the HDMI I can get 1900x1080 on it.  The Dell I then connect directly into the bigger DVI port and it gives me the options of resolutions up to 2560x1600 but when I try them it just gives me weird pink and rainbow lines all over the screen.
    Thx again

  • Macbook mini-dvi to vga display resolution issue

    Hi,
I'm connecting my 13in first generation macbook to an external LCD display.  It's an ACER AL2216W.  I'm running latest Snow Leopard.
I could always just click 'detect displays' and it would figure out what kind of monitor I had and I would be off and running at the native 1600x1050.
Now for some reason when I click detect displays, it only shows the laptop native resolutions.  There is no 1600x1050 in the resolution list and instead of saying "ACER AL2216W" at the top of the display preferences, it just says "Display"
I've tried rebooting, plugging in and and out my monitor cable to the macbook and a variety of other things but to no avail.  I'm forced to use 1024x768 right as it is the only resolution that displays correctly on my monitor.   Any ideas on how to get back the detect display working and have 1600x1050 resolution again?

I have a 40 lcd tv and have my macbook hookuped to it using the mini display port to vga and it looks really good, but i only use it for watching movies. Dedicated monitors are still better for reading text or playing games

  • External Display Resolution Issue...

I have a Mid-2012 MPB running Mavericks. Recently, I've tried connecting 2 different external display's to the MBP via an Apple Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor. I can't get the resolution of the connected displays to go above 800 x 600, and it looks awful.
The first screen is a Samsung SyncMaster T260HD with a native res of 1920 x 1200, and the other is a Samsung SyncMaster 933HD, with a native res of 1366 x 768. I plug them into my Windows box via a VGA cable, and it will drive each display at it's native res just fine. So what have I missed to get the MBP to do this???
    Thanks in advance. :-)

My MBP has Thunderbolt and I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter. This is connected to the DVI port in the display.
That option key selection did not increase the alternative resolutions available.
I did reset PRAM according to a advise hee in the community. That did not help either.

  • Portrait display resolution issue since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Hello. I'm running a Mac Mini 2011 with the 2.5 GHz i5 and Radeon HD 6630m graphics. I run two monitors, one via HDMI and via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor. The HDMI connection runs landscape, the VGA portrait. Since updating from Lion to Mountain Lion, the resolution options in portrait disappear. I'm forced to use 800x1200, which stretches and distorts horribly, as opposed to the correct 1366x768 available to me in landscape.
Prior to updating from Lion to Mountain lion I didn't have any issues, so it's pretty clear this is Mountain Lion related. I'm hoping someone can help me resolve this issue.

Try holding the option key when you click on the scalled button and see if the resolution you need is listed.

  • Display resolution issues in Acrobat 9.2?

    G'day,
I've just upgraded to Acrobat 9.2 this arvo and I immediately noticed that a PDF created as screen resolution displays in a very poor quality. Yes, it's a low res PDF, but everything within the PDF displays very badly. Have I maybe missed something that has changed in Preferences or is it something else?
I am concerned as all work is sent to clients via a PDF for approval etc. and that they might feel that my artwork is of inferior quality due to the way PDFs now seem to display under Acrobat 9.2
Thanks in advance for any comments or help.

Go to Preference and to Page Display:
Check the part about the resolution and see if it matches the resolution of your display.
The the resolution of which you view a PDF on screen doesn't necessarily have to do with how it looks when printed. I just updated 9.2 and open a PDF and I didn't see any problems on my machine.

  • MBP Retina 15 display resolution issue on Windows7 and Bootcamp 5.0

But my display driver is shown as "generic non-PnP monitor on standard VGA Graphics Adaptor. The maximum resolution that i am getting is 1600*1200. I have tried to repair bootcamp installation but the display is still same and its not as crisp as it should be.
I have searched everywhere on google and youtube but cant find any answer. Can any one please let me know how to fix it.

I did checked the option in bootcamp during win install "Download windows support software" but my MBP got stuck while downloading win support software.. i waited for more than 3 hours but it never moved ahead after 50 odd %. So i tried again with unchecking this option and once win were installed i downloaded bootcamp 5.0 and installed it but my display was not detected.
Have you restarted Windows since installing, if not try it.

  • HT5313 Does this fix the display resolutions issue with he 24" iMac?

10.7.4 only allows 2 resolutions - neither correct - on the 24" iMac. Does 10.7.5 fix this?

and I must have sent 20+ crash reports
if you have crash reports, then you have a different problem than the one that freezes 20" imacs while scrolling in iTunes, most likely you have a corrupted update, or corrupted iTunes data...
both can be deduced, by a clean install from your original system disks... (after you back up everything, and make sure you have it all, and it is good data)...
the simplest thing to try is to put your iTunes library somewhere else... (a back up would be a good place)...
then reinstall from your system disks, then download the combo updater, and update from that to 10.5.6... once you have that, only put a couple pieces of data into your iTunes library, and use that for a while to see if you have a crash....
if no crashes, then it was either a corrupted install, or corrupted data in your iTunes library...
if no crashes for a while, put 1/4 of your iTunes library back where it is supposed to be... and keep using it to see if there are crashes...
if you do get a crash after moving anything in, take it back out, and check for a while for crashes...
then you can isolate corrupted data that way.

  • Kdemod display resolution default issue

Hello everyone again. Im currently on my third install of arch and im trying out kdemod this time... one issue i seem to be having tho is that my resolution keeps going to 1600x1200 and i keep having to change it to 1280x1024 at the beggening of my session... how do i fix this? btw i have fglrx drivers. Just to me it seems like there might be a permission problem or something that wont let it write the config, but i dunno where to start to look.

try this. navigate to KMenu -> Control Center -> Peripherals -> Display and mark the box next to message "Apply settings at next startup". Then change your display resolution, and it should work for subsequent logon.

  • OS X Mavericks: display randomly turning white/brown/grey [no resolution issues]

    Hey folks,
I discovered a very strange problem the last few days while using the internal and an external VGA Monitor on my Macbook Pro (mid 2010, 8GB).
I'm running on OS X Mavericks with the latest updates and the system runs pretty smooth.
What I discovered is as follows:
Using any VGA monitor that I own, sometimes both (internal and external) display turn white (or grey or brown, just displaying a solid colored screen). This occurs with literally every display I used externally and doesn't occur while just using the Macbook Pro without an external display. This didn't happen before on Mountain Lion, neither did it happen the first weeks on Mavericks (I've been using it since it's released). After this happening, I have to do a forced reboot. This issue does occur randomly within the daily usage.
Furthermore, I don't have any resolution issues as many user claimed about this already while running OS X Mavericks.
From looking at the system I can tell that the RAM is not damaged (also because this doesn't happen while using the MB without external display). I also tried other RAM, issue remains reproducible.
I haven't found any solution on the internet, so I decided to post my problem here.
Hope there is anybody out there who might be able to help me out.
    Yours sincerely

  • Display Color/Resolution Issues on Macbook 2.1 running 10.6.8

My macbook 2.1 (late 2006) is having display color issues. Computer starts fine but when it loads the desktop, the display seems to be mismatching colors and at a very low resolution. The error can be corrected by plugging in/unplugging an external display. Adjusting other display settings does nothing.

    Hi Beeble80,
If the colors appear to be inverted, a function of Universal Access/Accessibility may have been inadvertently activated:
Apple Support: Mac OS X displays inverted image colors (white on black, reverse type)

  • X1 Display Resolution, Touchscreen Version (Windows 8.1 issue?)

The display is nice and crisp, but the scaling (read: DPI setting in Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display) really sucks. Chrome is all fuzzy fonts at 150% DPI, 100% and 200% is just so OK), and for many applications I have to go into a program's Compatibility settings to disable DPI scaling.
That would be all fine if I wouldn't use a 24" monitor at work. There the display resolution is lower (yes, lower at 1900x1200 than the touchscreen's insanse resolution). So every time I switch displays I need to set DPI from 150% back to 100%, and also Chrome's default  zoom from 150% back to 100%... sucks. And of course all the icon sizes and most of the window scaling does not change until I log off and log on again.
Also, disconnecting the display -- or putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up again -- is a constant struggle. Most of the time the display resolution is a weird 1024 and extended displays then, and have to disconnect and reconnect the Lenovo Display Link hub to make it work again.
You would think that by now either Lenovo or Microsoft have figured out a way to work with different screens. While setting up my software and dropbox and software development environment was fast, the DPI issue and screen issue (and "Adaptive Function Bar... dont get me started!!!) really sucks.
    Thorsten

Hi thinkstorm, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
The main issue is that app developers (like Dropbox) have not tailored their apps for the leading-edge 2560x1440 resolution. Until that happens, we have to make do .
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
