OS X 10.9 VoiceOver Utility Speech: Can't download voices
Pretty esoteric, but I've tried downloading several different voices in VoiceOver Utility and I receive a Speech Downloader popup stating "An unexpected error occurred while downloading the "Otoya" voice. Try again later."
The default Japanese voice (Compact) is really awful and I would greatly appreciate a tip toward a manual download link for one of the other Japanese voices. Or a tip about how to get the downloads to trigger properly (as they used to).

If you change the permissions on /usr/sbin/screenreaderd to 000 (from 2555), that will take care of voiceover.

i would like to use the VoiceOver utility application to only speak the words i type in TextEdit-to speak nothing else. can it be configured to do this? i would like to use it as a substitute for my voice. thanks.
Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device. -
Can the voiceover utility on the 6th gen Nano be accessed with headphones other than the Apple earphones?
No I have tried and they don't also my iPod touch 2nd generation doesn't work with voice control unless it has apple earbuds plugged in. I guess apple doesn't want 3rd party brads interfering with their company. Thanks please like

Is there any way to be sure about book progression using VoiceOver Utility?
I am able to load and display iBooks products using VoiceOver utility without issues, which I'm very happy about. The main issue seems to be in the way the text is displayed, however. I can never be sure how the text scrolls. I might be able to scroll down several lines of text without incidents, maybe a few paragraphs in a row, but there will come a time when I have to progress to the right. Or maybe go further to the top. It never seems to make a lot of sense, and so I am left with serious difficulties reading books as they were meant to be read. I can use the Speak option from the edit menu, but that doesn't quite help, since the system doesn't save the progress you make using this reading method, meaning there's no way to pause (as far as I'm aware).
My question, essentially: is there a way for me to know with absolute certainty how to progress through a text from A to Z? Alternatively, is there a way for me to display the text in a more manageable, column-less way so that text scrolls naturally from top to bottom? My voiceover utility doesn't recognize any spoken commands
the voiceover utility on my MacBook quit working. it doesnt have any commonds when i open the speech commands window. the support article on apple didnt help at all. when i create another accout it works just fine. all the basic commands dont work, but when i open up chess, in the speech commands window all the chess commands work. so please help we sovle this issue.

It is definitely having issues finding the Apple routers.. turn on ipv6 local-link in the computer.. but that may fail without wireless turned on in the TC if the FIOS router doesn't give you ipv6.. which is still a work in progress on most modems and routers.
Turn the wireless back on, on the TC.. you may need to connect to it directly with ethernet.. and do a factory reset.. none of which will harm your backups.
Setup the TC afresh with all smb type names, short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Give the wireless name the same as the SSID in the FIOS router.
But manually set wireless channel to say 11.. for 2.4ghz.. 5ghz won't matter as the FIOS doesn't use it.
Set wireless in the FIOS to 1 or 6.. or leave it on auto, should be ok as long as one of the routers is fixed.
Use wpa2 AES in the FIOS.. use WPA2 Personal in the TC.
Use same password in both.
If possible use a few meters (= several feet ) ethernet cable so you have them a apart a bit.. it is not a big deal but I like to run radios communication spaced a bit. Old Engineering traits.
If you use a different wireless name for 5ghz.. it is much faster when client machine is near the TC.. and you will have direct access to the TC rather than via the FIOS.. makes for better backups and keeps network on 2.4ghz less busy for internet connectivity. -

The change pronunciation feature of my VoiceOver utility is not working. When I change the pronunciation of a word it makes no difference, the voice over still uses the original pronunciation. This has happened both in Lion and Mountain Lion. Any ideas what could be causing this? How to rectify it?

I can start Voiceover by command+F5.
I want to change some set up by voiceover utility, in manual,it said the command is commandoptionF8,,or commandoptionright key to change set up.

Impossible to put a modifier key in Voiceover utility / Commanders
In voiceover utility / Commanders, I enable the numpad commander. And I would like to add a modifier key like command for instance for this function. On the right, there's a popup menu that allows me to select a modifier key. BUT after selecting command and closing the voiceover utility, my changes are not taken into account and 'm back to "no modifier".
It is just like it doesn't keep in the prefs file my changes.
Any idea? Looks like an OS bug....It sounds like a hosed Preference file.
Unfortunately, not having a numpad, I can't check up, but you could try getting rid of all the voiceover plist files from ~/Library/Preferences, then restarting and resetting everything.
At that point, it's probably a good idea to save all the .plists to an external drive such as a USB key.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have gone through the notes 1535201 & now on 1606563 after your advise.
Both the notes says the fix is available on 7.01 after SP 07 and we are on SP 14 already.
Also just in case I did checked with our basis and they confirmed we are a head and we have the above notes in our release already.
Unfortunately the notes are not the solution to the investigation till date.

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 running10.10.2 (14C1514). Trying to install Windows 7 64 bit from an install disc. When attempting to create an ISO image I can save the file in disk utility but can convert cdr to iso. I select the file and the hit return as in step 8 of the Creating an
iSO image document but the box that should open to select use iso does not open. How should I proceed?The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
4. Partition your drive.
5. You can see the Windows installer screens at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2.
