OS X crashing to much...errr
Hey guys so basically my mac was perfect when my bro gave it to me. its a powermac G4, and i reformatted recentley due to crashing problems. Whenever i have Azureus open, with lets say itunes, or more than one program it crashes. the whole screen dims down and this gray looking dialog box says restart your computer. Its so weird, i dont know what to do, i thought re-formatting it would fix it. It seemed like it worked for a few days, but now its back again. What do you guys think the problem is, and how might i be able to resolve it? People say its a RAM problem...but realistically i dont have any $$$ for it. But i'd like to try some other stuff to figure out what exactley is making it do this. If someone could help me out that would be great, thx again guys.
This sounds like what is called a kernel panic.

My macbook pro says Shockwave Flash plug-in has crashed pretty much every day. I have to shut the computer down and restart to fix it. Is there any way I can keep this from happening?

also, make certain your Mac OS X software is completely up-to-date. There is a Trojan Horse that pretended to be a Flash update, and installed Flash with malware included. The latest security updates removes the malware and all older versions. -
In the last few days, it seems that my computer has all of a sudden caught a virus. I have never had that happened to a computer, but I have surely heard about it. I can't think of any other reason it is behaving like this. I know that Macs have been pretty much impervious to viruses, but that was before they were the majority of users.
Anyway, what is happening is, my computer keeps crashing whenever I try to open a program, app, document, folder, file, etc. I tried to boot from Drive Genius to establish the problem, but Drive Genius crashed too. I know the last ditch effort (after cleaning and maintenance of disc verification and permissions and repairs, is to reboot from the system disc.
Before I go there I was hoping someone in the community would have a suggestion to help me avoid that ultimate last resort. The tech support guy at Drive Genius told me that probably would have to be the way to go (as in reboot) and if that doesn't clear it up, it's repair time.

As others have pointed out, this isn't malware. That should not be your first (or even fifty-first) thought when your Mac starts misbehaving. For more on this topic, see my Mac Malware Guide.

You mention "cleaning and maintenance." Have you been running utilities claiming to do those things? If so, you may be the victim of an overly-zealous cleaning job, which has removed important files and damaged your system.
If I'm understanding correctly, you're unable to open any applications at all... is that right? Do you have any backups? If you don't have backups, you're in a sticky situation, as it will be difficult to make backups in your current state, but you shouldn't try any kind of repairs without them. (Actually, you shouldn't do anything with your computer without backups, but this is especially important when something is going badly wrong.)
If you have backups, reboot from your Snow Leopard install disc. From there, first, repair the hard drive with Disk Utility. Once that is done, assuming repairs were successful, reinstall the system. You can simply reinstall it on top of your current system, and it will replace any damaged or lost system files with new copies. (You'll also need to update the system via Software Update after reinstalling.)
If you don't have backups, or if Disk Utility can't repair damage, or if the problem continues even after a reinstall, post back with those details. -
Firefox keeps crashing after much troubleshooting...
Whenever i put some load onto firefox as in multi tabs open... streaming, surfing, maybe a download... pretty much my normal interweb abuse it has been crashing... like every 5-10 minutes and it is killing me. Some fixes i tryed:
-New profile
-Updates addons (even though it still shows flash as out of date even though i have installed the update twice now.)
-Disabled addons
-Reinstalled firefox freshly... no addons/bookmarks... anything
-reset firefox.
No crash sig on any of my reports... please help starting to think it is system based not firefoxes fault... however that works...Hi lkingsland, can you associate the problem with any particular kind of content, such as Flash or other media?
Assuming you are running a recent version of Flash, try disabling the new protected mode, since that feature is still being debugged. A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."

Why does Adobe Flash player crash so much?
This is not the first version of FireFox that Adobe Flash player crashes on. It happens 2, sometimes 3 times a day, my browser locks up for 45 seconds or so then I see the "Adobe Flash Player has crashed" yet again.
I've read the forums, tried suggestions but it continues to crash.
I want to keep using Firefox, but I'll have to switch to chrome and just use firefox for the better firebug.
I'm sure this is adobes issue and not firefox, but there's not much I can do.Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

My IT department installed photoshop CS6 - and it crashes so much it is unusable
Hi all-
I have a decent laptop for work, Dell with good specs, running windows 7.
Using photoshop CS6, the program crashes even with the most basic commands. Some hotkeys, or a soft brush will just shut it down.
It is really frustrating, as it is pretty much unusable with this issue.
I have illustrator CS6 - which is working fine.
Any ideas on what to do here? My IT team cant really help much :/Hi Chris-
I updated photoshop myself, as well as the drivers per your reccomendation. I dont know of any plug-ins that I am using. And I am still getting a significant amount of program crashes.
about 90% of the time I can make it happen, but 10% of the time I cna use the program, lightly, and get somehting done.

Photoshop Elements 8 (and 7) crash too much in Windows 7
Photoshop Elements 8 and 7 have a terrible crash problem in Windows 7 and
also did in Windows Vista. It seems to happen when going from the editor
back to the organizer (after an edit session). Am I doing something
wrong? This is a terrible problem. I love the Photoshop Elements
editor and the organizer but can't stand this crashing!Thanks, Dean...
It looks like I might have found part of the problem. I've followed some other advice on here on eliminating the welcome screen by using a short cut directly to the organizer. However, it is more unstable for some reason when calling the editor from the organizer after loading it that way.
I went back and loaded the program through the welcome screen and it did much better. That's kind of strange to me.

G5 Duo crashing too much any help suggestions
I recently got a G5 Dual 2.3 and installed 10gb ram
I had a mirror door G4 with 2gb ram before that crashed once in a blue moon, even when processing 200meg files it was ok - slow but OK
This one is turning off way too much for my liking
Last crash I had iTunes, iPhoto, Adobe bridge and firefox running
Clicked on a page link in Firefox and it closed itself down, the grey/black screen from the top with restart message
I've left it on for some time not using it to see if was a heat issue or something as the last couple have been while using small programs

I cant use the iphone its useless now :S i think its a software problem but i restored it many times
I suffer same. AppleCare can't seem to solve the problem. I did a restore from backup. Then I did a restore as new phone (virgin). Then I did a restore as a new device and then backed up from a stored backup (which does not replace media). To no avail. Some days it works fine, and on others it's extremely bothersome. The major symptoms:
1. It can take 5+ seconds to delete a photo.
2. It can take 10+ seconds for the camera app to activate. In many instances, the moment is long gone.
3. Switching from camera to video can take 5+ seconds.
4. Saving a photo that's been optimized in iOS 5 can take 30 seconds. Absurd.
Note that Photos and Camera aren't the only affected applications. What'sApp can have the same issues on occasion. Voice Memos don't respond like they should, either. I suspect that there's some behind-the-scenes operations with network feed to which iOS gives its full attention (contrary to the UX getting full attention is is historically the case). This makes the user interface painfully slow at times — and, as most of us here would agree — painfully annoying. This might have to do with changes designed around iCloud, but I'm not even (yet) using it.
The bottom line is that what used to be a quick, pretty good phone camera is now totally lackluster and unreliable for fast shots. Sometimes I think Apple spends too much time worrying about form and not enough about function. -
First of all, I was listening to my iTunes with my iPod not having fully updated with iTunes, meaning, not having gotten the latest iTunes music onto the Mini iPod.
Second of all, I deleted about half of my library right before the occurrence.
Then I got a huge file from a friend of mine, containg a lot of music from one artist, two gigabytes worth to be specific. I then transferred the file to my iTunes Music folder, where all of the music is. Then, I went to the Add a Folder option under iTunes, and added the whole Folder of music.
And it worked, it began to play and such.
So I connected my iPod, which can only hold about 4 gigabytes(?), while my iTunes was functioning with about 4.4 Gigabytes worth of information.
Then the entire program froze when I told iTunes to update my iPod and not only remove the old files I had deleted, but as well include the many files I had just added.
Any idea as to what I should do now? It'll take me a long time to sift through the music I just recieved and pick out which ones I wish to delete, so is it possible to pick and choose which music I don't want on my iPod? Furthermore, without freezing iTunes when I connect my iPod to accept all of that music?

I think that firstly you should uncheck all of the songs/podcasts/etc. and simply update the iPod so that it has no music. Then you should divide the massive amount of files by 100 or 150 songs at a time and upload them onto your iPod. Seperating the tasks may help with the problem because it won't overload the system by attempting to do too many things at once. If I am wrong with this idea, please, someone correct me. But that is what I would do. -
Never had an iTunes version crash as much as 9
I can't believe how many times iTunes 9 has crashed on me since first installing. I have literally lost count! It mostly (if not every time) seems to occur when browsing the iTunes Store. I have noticed it happening more than once when all I did was tap the Back arrow at the top to go to the previous store page- waited a few seconds with the progress bar not moving, then... crash. It seems iTunes automatically sends a report on reopening, so that's ok. I really hope they iron out these bugs because the old saying "it just works" isn't the case anymore.
Anyone else with more frequent crashing?Only when loading a video on either iTunes 9.0 or Quicktime. It's getting ridiculous. Also, when using search or scrolling down in my iTunes Library (6,857 songs), it's extremely slow. I would rather wait another month for iTunes to be bug free rather than being frustrated with it until the next update is released.

Adobe Application Manager doesn't show updates
I have Bridge version 5.0.0.399 and PS CS6 version 13.0. When I click Help/Updates Adobe Appication Manager says "Your applications are all up to date as checked less than a minute ago." But I know there is Bridge version 5.0.2 and PS CS6 version 13.
