OS X doesn't load after battery failure

Hi!
I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro and my battery is almost dead, today I forgot to connect my Mac to the plug and the Mac just shut down due lack of battery (i don't get my warning anymore). When I tried to boot again, it gets stuck with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel
What I've tried so far:
> boot with partition recovery and fix disk and permissions
> reset of PRAM and NVRAM
> tried to boot with safe mode
None if this worked! not even the safe mode. I don't want to install everything again, though I have backups on my time capsule and I am safe on what regards data.
what else can I do before I go with the install?

Hi!
I managed to fix it, I had to install OS X through partition recovery and it worked. Now I have some libraries corrupted like aperture, but I am rebuilding it just right now. All should be fine now.
About the battery, no, it isn't recharging okay. Nowadays I can't last with battery for more than 40 minutes, I'll have to replace my battery soon...

  • Aperture 2.1.4 endless loading after battery failure.

I fell so sick.  I just started a project to consolidate all my aperature libraries into one library on a new 1TB drive on my macbook pro.  I was consolidating from 2 external drives.  And incredibly stupidly, after copying the contents of those other two drives, I deleted them before my time machine had backed up the library on the new drive.  Then while I was organizing all the albums in the new library, my computer did a hard shut down.  Instead of going to sleep when the battery was low, the computer completely shut down when I it said it was at about 10% battery remaining.  When I restarted the computer and reopened aperture, it shows all my projects and albums, but it just gives an endless "loading" message, and no photos in the library ever appear.  When I try to "Quit Aperture" the program stops responding.  Is there anything I can do to repair the library... or did I just lose six years worth of photos?  Please tell me there is something I can do!

Thank you so much for the suggestions.  I also was cautious about adding anything to the drives I stupidly erased before trying to recover the deleted files.  The good news is that I used the free version of Disk Drill to see what was recoverable on the drive.  After seeing that better than 11,000 .CR2 files were found, I went ahead and bought the product and it has so far recovered 2,600 of them and has another 4 hours of work to go.  The bad news is that they are just the .cr2 files.  Since the aperature 'library' is just a sort of smart file, I can't simply recover it.  I don't think I'll be able to put everything back together.  So hundreds of hours of processing will be lost, but the raw files will, at least, still be accessible.  Once I've recovered everything I can from this drive, then I will follow the advice of LeonieDF and copy the damaged library to that drive and attempt the repair.
That brings up another point.  When I use "Show packet contents" on the damaged library, I can see all the individual .approject project packets inside.  Is it possible to import those projects into another library, assuming that the 3 steps of attempting to repair the disk, attempting to repair the library, and attempting to rebuild the library all fail?
Thanks again for being so helpful.  I felt so sick, until I realized that the aperture library could be opened and the files inside accessed.  Worst case scenario is that I lose hundreds of hours of editing and processing, but that is a lot better than losing almost seven years worth of photos.

  • ITunes doesn't load after trying to install the newest version

Hi. About three days ago when I opened iTunes it asked if I'd like to update. I decided too. After instaling when I opened it I got a message..I'm not sure what it was now, but it said something about needing a new version of Quicktime to opperate. So I downloaded the newest Quicktime. I no longer got that message, however, iTunes will not load. I get the little loading arrow, however thats as far as it goes. My dad tried to fix it and noticed iTunes is running in the background. But only in the background.
I completely uninstalled iTunes and re-installed it from my disc. It still won't load. I'm getting really frustrated because I want to update my iPod and am unable.
    Any help please?

    Hi vinyamar
I wonder whether you are getting the common conflict problem with Norton AV (or any other AV/antispy software for that matter)
    I would recommend this approach
1.Back up your entire iTunes library folder preferably into a separate drive or external memory first. Search the forums if you are not sure how to do this.
2.Ensure you download the iTunes programme to your pc (save to desktop for example) not try to install online.
3.Once you have downloaded iTunes 7 to your pc, disable your AV/Spy software before you try to run the install.
    4. Run the install, then reboot and allow your AV/antispy programmes to come back on (if they don't automatically on restart)
    Try opening iTunes
If you have done this, and it still doesn't work, it may be your chosen AV software and/or firewall is not allowing iTunes to start up. Check the setting on your software in this regard.
I appreciate it is very frustrating when this happens, but be patient and search the forums. There are fixes for just about every problem!:)
In the worst case scenario you may have a nasty little virus which is blocking your iTunes launch. If you don't get any luck with the earlier method, try downloading and running EWIDO (an AV programme) scan and see if that helps as well. www.ewido.net/en/
It is free and incredibly useful in removing certain adware and malware that prevent iTunes from installing on Windows. Good Luck.

  • Create Leave Request In portal doesn't load  after logging in

    He All,
we are facing an issue with some of the users of the E portal , after they log in and click on create leave request  the loading icon appear and the portal stuck at that and nothing else happen like in the attached image  , this issue happen with some users not all of the users however it was working with them before.
    Please advice
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Ahmed,
I didnt suggest a browser issue.
But using such tool when problem happens can show your the exact request url that hangs.
Then from this, you can reach to where the problem resides on the server.
Google chrome contains it already (just click on F12) , you can see all requests:
When you see a request that doesnt have status 200 or without status, this can give you focus on where is the issue.
    Best regards,
    Tal

  • Safari doesn't load after upgrade to 5.1

Following the recent OS update to 10.6.8 and the Safari upgrade to 5.1, Safari will not load any internet page (it doesn't freeze. This only happens with my user and it works perfectly for another user. I removed my plugins, cookie files, safari.plist, removed and reinstalled safari but nothing helped.
    Any suggestions?

Just your user account? That's the good part, at least it's not a system wide issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Deselect:  Enable plug ins
Quit then relaunch Safari. If pages load then it's a third party add preventing pages from loading. This can happen when an add on was compatibility with the prior version of Safari but not 5.1.
I see your check plugins but they are easy to miss.
    Check these folders:
    Manually uninstall third-party add-ons
If the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually removing the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder.
The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
You should also check Extensions. Back to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Ipad doesn't charge after battery warning

After a battery warning, the charger that came with the iPad will not charge it. Message indicates that the charger will not work with the iPad. One has to shut down the iPad and then start it again. At that point the charger is recognized and the iPad will charge.

If it says 'not charging' when plugged into the wall with the iPad charger, then your ipad may have issues. Try resetting it, holding the home and sleep key, past when you see the red power off and until you see the silver apple.
If you reset it, plug it into the wall with its charger and you still get 'not charging' then it may be time to take it to the local Apple store and have them check it out.

  • MBP doesn't restore after battery depleted

I have a 2008 13" Macbook pro. I have this caffeine utility which is really handy if I want the screen to stay lit but sometimes I forget to plug in and my battery dies. It used to restore after my battery ran out (that gray screen with the bar near the bottom) but now it either hangs when it gets to the middle or I get a message in a box telling me to hold the power button down and restart.
I know I should just be more careful and not let my battery die but it's a real bummer when I lose what I was working on.
Would this be resolved by buying a new battery?

The best solution is to invest in a backup drive, and backup with an application like Time Machine. Even if your HD explodes, you have a backup.
Getting a new battery may not be necessary, so long as you keep track of your battery. Download a free app like Coconut Battery. It installs as a desktop item, and you can consult it at any time.
Also, consider using your machine while it's its plugged in. This saves your battery for when you really need it.

  • Satellite L10-104 doesn't start after battery totally empty

    Hi,
after I left the laptop over the weekend without the AC charger the battery was totally empty. So I reconnected it to charge the battery for one day.
Now, when I press the power on button the green LED on the front illuminates for approx 3 seconds - nothing else happens. No HDD sounds, no coooling fan noise, nothing on the screen.
Does anyone have some ideas what I could do to make it run again?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi,
I took out the battery for one day, put everything together and tried to start up - nothing.
Then I took out RAM, HDD and some other module that's accessible from underneath and put the power cord in, tried to start - nothing.
I even disassembled the whole notebook and hooked up only the motherboard with the power line (of course CPU, GPU and cooling fan were still attached) - still nothing. Only the green LED in the front lights up for 3 seconds.
My guess is - its time has finally come. However I never expected that after a complete discharge of the battery.
Thanks for your help. I'd appreciate if you have any other ideas and since the notebook is 5 years old I guess I will not take it to a service technician.

  • LDAP network users/automount points doesn't work after power failure

    Hi,
I have a lab of about a dozen Mac Mini clients that boot to their own local HDs and pull their user accounts from a MacPro tower running Mac OS X Server 10.4.9.
Last week there was a power outage. The power was restored a couple hours later, but the clients would not mount any of the automount points from the server and could not log into the network user accounts. The login window showed "No Network Accounts Available".
I went into Directory Access on each client, turned off LDAP and the line item for the open directory server, restarted the clients, then turned the LDAP on and enabled the open directory listing inside Directory Access. As soon as I turned LDAP back on, the mount points showed up, I logged out of the local user account and was able to log into the network user accounts.
It appeared to be fixed, but now the clients apparently lose their directory binding again after the client is restarted. I go back and toggle LDAP off, restart, toggle it back on and it all works again.
Any ideas on how I can get the setting to "stick" again? And why would the power outage cause this across the board for all the clients? Seems strange to me...

    Hi David:
On the clients log in as administrator, launch Net Info Manager, authenticate, select Config and delete the mcx_cache. Restart the client, remove the configuration in Directory Access again as well as the entires in the Authentication and Contacts field. Save the change, redo the configuration and try again. Was the Server also involved in the power outage?
    Hope this helps – Tony

  • MS Office 2008 doesn't load after migration to MacBook Air

My daughter has a new MacBook Air 11" (2GHz i7, 256 GB SSD, 8GB DDR3 RAM).  We used Migration Assistant and an ethernet to Thunderbolt adaptor to move her system from her Late 2007 MacBook running Lion.  Microsoft Office 2008 won't load on the MacBook Air.  The recurring error message is:
    Dyld Error Message:

I have seen several Font-related issues that can be solved by restoring the fonts using Font Book.  This looks like it is related to Netlib.
Anyone see this and know how to solve it?
    sgtbill

I have no idea what caused MS Office to no work under ML, but using the Remote Disc function on the MacBook Air I was able to reinstall MS Office using the original install disc running in my iMac.  I wasn't able to remove the previous version before the new install as the removal tool also crashed.  The new install has replaced the old one so I only have one version on the drive now.
I'd be interested in whether there was a solution possible without reinstalling MS Office.

  • Finder doesn't load after bootup

When ever I have to reboot, the finder never wants to load (or it takes almost 10 minutes for it to load) I have google notifier which does load (before the finder) and what I usually have to do is reboot again and wait it out. Once loaded everything works fine, the problem is just during the boot up. I was thinking maybe I should try disablying google notifier, has anyone else had this problem?
    G5 Dual 2.5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    G5 Dual 2.5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Try booting in "safe mode" if you can. Restart and hold the "shift" key as soon as you hear the startup chime.
If this works (Finder laods on launch) look in System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login items and disable any third party login items. Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours. EDIT: Then restart normally.
Then you'll need to replace them one at time to find the culprit.
