OS X is to new for FaceTime?

I downloaded facetime about 1 year ago and since then I have updated my OS and it wont let me open facetime anymore? It says my Mac OSX is too new for facetime?

If you now have Lion or Mountain Lion OSX, then Facetime is an integral part of those operating systems. In other words they are included, you can't and don't need to download Facetime from the App Store.

If you recently did an upgrade to Yosemite (and if my memory is correct) you may have signed into FaceTime (without using it) as part of the upgrade.

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro w/Retina for my fiance and while setting it up it needed some updating. I started the update and for Facetime it will not update. There is a message that keeps popping up everytime I click on install and it says "Mac OS X is too new and can not update at this time." Can anyone help?

Hi, you say you are new, does that mean your hardware and software are also new? The trick here is to do some research to determine if your machine and your levels of software meet Lion minimum requirements (google any buzzwords that I use). For example, Office 2011 is fine, probably 2008 as well, but not Office 2004. This type of determination should be made for all your 3rd party software. Apple software is easier, you have to make sure all software updates are applied and you are at the SNOW leopard level of 10.6.8 before you start to install Lion. Hope this helps.

Can I use an IP camera for FaceTime on my Mac mini?

I have a Mac mini running Mountain Lion and I would like to know if it is possible to use the streaming video from a wireless IP camera as the video source for FaceTime (and other video apps). If so, how?

My mistake. I saw the Mac Mini spec and presumed you were looking for any camera and had come across Wireless IP ones.
I know of one BlueTooth one (just to keep a spin on it ).
I have heard good things about this one - but mainly from 2 years or so ago when it was new.
Actually Wireless IP ones I know next to nothing about.
One of the main issues with iChat 2 through 4 is that the Video that iChat accepts is limited to DV from the External Firewire cameras that were about or certain USB Cameras that produce output that works with the Utility from Ecamm or the Apple Framework item that was introduced later in OS X 10.4 for the USB 2.0/UVC compliant cameras.
By Snow Leopard and iChat 5 most computers do have USB 2.0 ports and all but two of the Mac range have Internal Cameras that are in fact USB 2.0.UVC Compliant.
On the other side as it were, are Camcorders also move to USB 2.0 over Firewire.
However in many cases the output is not DV and none are UVC compliant.
The video signals from these cannot be "translated by either the iUSBCam Ecamm utility or the internal Driver from Apple.
So the main issue will be the format of the Video output from the camera for iChat or Messages.
Other apps, particularly Quicktime, are going to have less of a problem as Quicktime can handle many more formats.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY E-MAIL FOR FACETIME?

So i set up my facetime and then i realized after that i don't want to use that E-mail cause its too long and confusing so i made a new E-mail to use for it but now i have NO IDEA how to change my E-mail for facetime! How do i change it?

Easy, it is covered in Chapter 6 of the Users Guide. Go to Settings>FaceTime>add Another eMail..

Unable to use my apple id for facetime and imessage.

I recently changed my apple id so that I was not sharing the same id with my son. Now I cannot use my apple id for facetime or imessage. I can use my son's id, but not mine. (So no network errors, just an id problem.)
I am using the latest software - iOS version 8.02
My time and date are correct.
The error message I see is that my user name or password is incorrect, but I am 100% sure that I have entered it correct. Same id/pw works for icloud, itunes, etc.
Same problems exists for iPad 3 as for iPhone 5.
Is there some way I can reset my facetime/imessage settings and clear out any old data that might be stored somewhere (hopefully not wiping out the whole phone/ipad?)

Thanks for the question. In my experience, the steps outlined in the "Unable to activate FaceTime or iMessage with phone number and Apple ID after waiting 24 hours (iPhone only)" section of the following article usually resolves this issue:

Follow these steps if your phone number and Apple ID do not activate after waiting 24 hours.
1. Back up your iPhone in iTunes.
2. Disconnect the iPhone from iTunes.
3. Turn FaceTime and iMessage off:
          - Settings > FaceTime
          - Settings > Messages
4. Navigate to Settings > General > Reset and select "Erase all content and settings".
5. In the iOS setup assistant, select "Set Up as New iPhone".
6. Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage. Go to:
          - Settings > FaceTime and tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime"
          - Settings > Messages and tap "Use your Apple ID with iMessage"
7. Verify that FaceTime and iMessage activate successfully. It may take up to 24 hours to complete activation. When activation is successful, a check mark will be visible next to your phone number and email address in Settings > FaceTime and Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
8. Disable automatic syncing in iTunes.
          - For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and select the option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK.
          - For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and select the option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK.
9. Connect the iPhone and restore from the backup. Do not perform a full restore.

Logging in for FaceTime

When i try to log in with my apple id and password for facetime it says "The server encountered an error processing registration, please try again later." Why is this happening?

Try Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
The "reset" suggested there often restores normal function.
BTW, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.

I can't get my phone to register appl id for facetime/imessage: It just sits there and does nothing. This is annoying and I'm using my phone as an ipod in Japan since it won't transfer carriers, how do I fix this?

If it isn't from something you did (like update iOS on an iPhone, or activate a new iPhone), then yes, I would be suspicious.

My camra shutter won't open but it works for FaceTime

The front and the rear camera are two different things. One can work and not the other. It is not unusual, it happened to my daughter's phone. Try a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo. If that doesn't help, you can try a restore, first from a backup and if no help, then as a new phone. If no joy, then make an appointment with the Apple store.

My @me email can't be used for FaceTime or iMessage

So I just bought a new iPad yesterday and I'm trying to get iMessage and FaceTime to work but everytime I choose my @me email to be the email where people contact me it says "This email address cannot be used for FaceTime." Goto settings >facetime>add another email address do the same with imessage add another email address one thing i have picked up on discussions is for facetime to work goto settings>general>date time set auto on otherwise it wont work.
