OS X Leopard 10.5: MB021Z/A vs. MB427Z/A

Hello. I am running OS 10.3.9 and I am soon to be moving up to 10.5 sometime next week. I have been looking at purchasing a full retail version on eBay and I have seen two different versions: MB021Z/A and MB427Z/A.
Can anyone tell me the difference between these two part numbers, and which one I would be better off buying?

MB021Z/A (Single User) MB022Z/A (Family Pack) are the official part numbers. Have no idea what the other one is. Possibly it's a release of a later version than the original 10.5. If the disc has a gray label it is not a retail version and may not work on your computer. If it's an Upgrade (Drop-In Upgrade) disc then you should avoid it as it is not the same as the full retail version.

i'm new to this forum and desperate for an answer. Please help!
I am currently using a powerbook G4 OS 10.4.11. I would like to ugrade my OS to leopard. Do i buy the retail dvd of the 10.5 leopard or 10.5.6 leopard?

If you can get the later version then I would suggest you do that. Although you can easily update the earlier version, getting the later version will make any reinstallations a lot easier and faster. 10.5.8 was the last version of Leopard, so if you can find that version it's even better.

Your fear is unfounded.. As long as you get a retail version (black color, not gray Mac specific) of an OS you get full functionality. There is no registration of an OS disc.
Also, I'm only wanting to upgrade to Leopard so I can eventually get to Lion. Is there a more direct way of going about this?
The Leopard requirements are listed below. To go to Lion 10.7 you need an Intel processor and Snow Leopard 10.6 installed if you want to download Lion. If you purchase Lion on a USB thumb drive you can go directly from Tiger.

Upgrading from tiger 10.4.11 to leopard without a cd drive?

Is there any way to upgrade to leopard when my cd drive is broken? I know that apple has new downloadable versions of Os lion to download from the app store but is there such a thing for leopard?

What model Mac do you have & what OS is it running? Leopard comes on a DVD, so you need a working DVD reader drive. You have two options. Install a new optical drive, or if you have access to another Mac, you can use Target Disk mode to install. See How to Use Firewire Target Disk Mode

You might be able to run Leopard 10.5, if your PB processor speed meets the requirements (What model PB do you have?) & you have sufficient RAM (you really need 1GB). Look at the requirements below. Leopard is the max OS for powerPC Macs.

Unable to Install Leopard in my late 2006 Imac.

Hi, Please help me in installing Leopard on my late 2006 Imac. After starting the installing dvd my system is not displaying Macintosh HD in start up disk and after reading in Mac forum. I have partition my HD in GUID partition format but still its not showing HD in start up disk.
Mac forum says that i can install leopard even if i have 667 Mhz speed with the help of Leopard assist software. but when i am installing its saying YOUR SYSTEM IS INTEL BASED. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE LEOPARD ASSIST.
Please help

if your disc is not a black one with a big X on it, and one of the above serial nos. it won't work.
No grey disc or any with "upgrade" or "drop in" on the label will work.

Your biggest problem will be finding a retail copy of the Leopard install DVD. Finding a Family Pack will be even harder.

Os x leopard 10.5.8

I have:
Power PC 3.6 Mirror
1.25 ghz single processor
power pc g4 3.3
2 gb ram
I am running 10.4 and want to update my software. Everything I read says 10.5.8 is the highest I can go but I can not locate it anywhere for download on the apple web sight. My 6 year old will love this thing if I can ever get it to where he needs it!
