OS/X Lion and export presets

I have noticed since I upgraded to Lion that when I change an existing export preset and 'update with current settings' it creates another instance of the preset with the same name. I don't see the duplicates until I open the export dialog again, and then I have to delete the 'old' one. Has anyone else noticed this?

Lion ( for reasons known to Apple and a few others) hides the user/library folder, so I assume that the issue may well be that when you make duplicates, these are stored elsewhere.
There is a very simple command you can run in the terminal which makes this folder visible - its more than just showing system files
Here's the link with more information,
http://tarastips.net/2011/05/show-hidden-library-folder-in-mac-osx-lion/, and here is the  necessary information
open Terminal
type
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
If that is scary there is another even easier method
- in finder click Go and hold the option / ALT key, the library will then appear
This may solve or partially solve your problems.
I installed Lion and Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom plugins at the same time, so I needed to find the library so I've not met this problem.
Good luck and please let me know if this helps.

  • OSX Lion and exporting for iPhone

There was a thread about how when trying to set and/or publish for iPhone or edit its settings, Flash CS5 immediately crashes. The problem has been experienced by many Mac OSX Lion users and they talked about it in this unresolved thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/888198#3851750 but still no updates from Adobe. Adobe sent me a response to my Support ticket that "it's an Actionscript 3 coding issue" then closed it so I couldn't reply. Ummmm, NO it isn't a coding issue, I tried to export an FLA file with no code in it. That's a really bad way to do business, Adobe. But since they're not going to be helpful (and probably lose me as a customer) has anyone else found a workaround for this?

The aspect ratio of the iphone screen is 480 x 320, but that size is not an option when exporting for iPhone using Compressor. You have to use a custom setting.
    Why is this the case?
You have to understand that the Apple-provided presets are good launching points, not end-all, be-all settings.
And iPhones do support material encoded as 640 pixels wide so the preset for VGA (up to 640x480) works fine for most people. I personally rarely use anything smaller than the VGA setting for Apple Devices as I find that's the perfect middle ground for iPods, iPhones and AppleTV.
If you (understandably) need to limit your file and frame sizes, adjusting the device setting in Compressor to iPhone (Local/WiFi) does the trick - fitting your movie into a 480 pixel-wide frame size and capping the video data rate at 1000 Kbps.
Letterboxing - as in hard mattes - is not needed when encoding for Apple Devices. In fact, if you have letterboxing in your source media, use the Geometry pane to crop out the Letterbox Area of Source. That will provide you with a better quality encode and the preset will know to adjust your output frame size, so you need not worry about distorting your movie.

  • Color profiles and export presets

I shoot RAW, with the color space in the camera set to sRGB, but after importing to Aperture (3.2.4), the Profile name in the metadata inspector is always Adobe RGB.  Why does this transformation come about automatically (i.e., is there some technical rationale for not letting the user decide)?  Can I change  some setting somewhere it so it stays sRGB and then export as Adobe RGB if I need it (i.e, rather than sRGB).  I do a lot of uploading to a website (with printing at home not of primary importance), so working with sRGB all the way through without going to Adobe RGB and back again seems to make more sense.

EXIF data is really a sort of gray area, while all digital cameras and all digital image software interact with the EXIF fields to some extent there really isn't any one definitive standard of what is put where and exactly what it means apart for the few obvious ones.
So you're point makes sense but it's  really not an Aperture thing. If you look at the file before importing the field is already filled out.

  • Saving Sequence and Effects Presets that go with the project itself

Hi, please be gentle as I'm a newbie to the site.
I have been asked to create several master Premiere Pro projects in CC (templates if you like) that will be being sent to quite a few ops worldwide, many of whom are completely new to the Adobe Platform, so I would like to keep things as simple as I can for them.
Is it possible to create sequence presets and a few effects presets that actually go with the project. At the moment when I've tried opening projects on another machine with a different user account, it overwrites everything with their presets and I can't find anything to stop that from happening. I'm assuming it's to do with sync settings.
However, is there a function to allow premiere pro to open the project with the project's last settings (sequence and effects presets) rather than default to the user prefs? As an aside, I'm not interested in workspace or keyboard shortcuts - that's down to them!
If it's not possible, is there a very simple step-by-step workflow I can use? But I'd really like to avoid trying to explain how to install sequence and effect presets to loads of different ops  if I can!!
Finally (wrong forum I know) but I need to do exactly the same thing with the assocated After Effects master template projects, so any help on that would be gratefully received too.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
When it comes to effects presets, you should be able to right-click on the Presets in the Effects bin and Export Presets...
The ops can then import the presets using the same method (right-click on the presets in the effects bin and choose Import Presets...)
For sequence presets, I can't find a way to do it within the software. Someone else will probably have to help you find it, but I'm certain there is a file somewhere in your computer that stores all of your Sequence Presets, so it would be a matter of finding and sharing that file with the ops, and then telling them where to put that file.
Hopefully this helps out a little bit!

  • Where is the LR5 export presets folder located on Mac Mtn Lion?

    I cannot find this folder?

On Windows I can get to this folder with:
LR -> Edit / Preferences / Presets (tab) / Show LR Presets Folder (button) and this highlights the Lightroom catalog folder because I have my presets stored with my catalog.
Once I click into this highlighted folder, the Export Presets subfolder and all the rest of the presets subfolders are under a folder called Lightroom Settings.
With LR 5.2 RC, at least, it appears that the Adobe presets are internalized in LR, and only the User presets are in this folder structure.

  • I have a sony hdr td 20ve 3d video camera. Is it possible to import into iMovie 11, edit and export in 3D? I have an iMac 2008 model running Lion 10.7.4

Is it possible to import 3d from the Sony 3D videocamera, model HDR TD 20VE into iMovie 11, edit and export the files to iDVD and produce a disc that plays on a 3d compatible DVD player?

Yes, you can purchase Lion as well as iPhoto and iMovie from the App Store. But before you can do that you must update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 by installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 update. Then you can sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password, locate the items you want, purchase them, and download them to your computer.

  • [CS5.5] Lock PDF export and print presets

    Hi,
With this post I would like to ask a question regarding locking certain features in Indesign.
Does anyone know if it is possible to ...
    - lock PDF export and print presets so a user is not abble to change/override any preset properties, and is forced to use a preset without the possibility to override any of the properties when using it?
    - force a user to use one of the predefinied presets to print or export a document without the ability to create a new preset?
    - verify PDF-files to check what Indesign print/export preset was used?
Being part of a larger prepress team, we would like to make sure that, every PDF-file created by each team member, is created with the same specs.
Does anyone know of any plugin, tool or release that enables such a functionality?
    Kind regards
    John

If the employees cannot follow company policy, they need to know that there are other people looking for work who can. Yes, mistakes happen, but that would be a case of choosing the wrong preset from a list (which, if you leave more than one installed, can't be avioded). Changing settings against policy is not a mistake.

  • Import and Update PDF Export Preset

    Hey there again!
I'm now trying to define a preset for the PDF Export process... it's based on the "High Quality Print" (from the Adobe PDF Preset list), and then I want to change "one or two" parameters.
Changing one or two parameters is easy, I've been doing that already, but since most of them are already defined by the "High Quality Print" Preset, my idea was:
    Load the "High Quality Preset"
And after that change the required parameters
And then export to PDF of course!
    How can this be done?
    Many thanks!!
    Best regards.

@m8r-vrpa5v – I think, it is not best practice to change a default PDF Export Preset. Instead I would add a new preset based on the default one.
When looking at your code you have to use the right syntax.
Every time you assign a value to a property you have to use the right object that property belongs to.
Some values are only functional, if some other property is set (this goes especially for the bleed settings).
    Do not write:
    bleedTop='0mm';
ExtendScript cannot know by itself where this property and its value should be assigned to what object.
    Right syntax would be:
    myPDFExportPreset.bleedTop='0mm';
Or (I used no meassurement units, the value 0 does not require this):
    myPDFExportPreset.properties = {
    useDocumentBleedWithPDF : true,
    bleedTop : 0 ,
    bleedBottom : 0 ,
    bleedInside : 0 ,
    bleedOutside : 0
    Hi Uwe,
Thanks for your remark... that was my mistake when using copy paste.
I was reusing code from another script where I used the WITH function, in here I was using a different structure and I didn't correct this.
But thanks again for the remark!

  • Exporting Reference Movies with Lion and QT X

Has anybody else had issues exporting Reference Movies from FCP7 under Lion?
When we open a Reference Movie created with FCP7/Lion in QT X 10.1 (the version that ships with Lion), we're only able to see the first frame of the movie, followed by black/blank video, and audio only.
Curiously, QT7 (on Lion) and QT X 10.0 (on Snow Leopard) are able to play these movies without a problem.  However, a number of 3rd-party applications and devices that we use in our facility (most notably an Omneon Spectrum) choke on the reference movies in a similar manner to QT X 10.1.
We've got a support ticket open with Omneon, although they claim to have never heard of the problem, and are currently picking their way through the issue as well.  However, there are scattered reports of others who are having similar problems.
For the sake of thoroughness, it's worth mentioning that this is a brand-new Mac Pro with Lion 10.7.2, and FCP 7.0.0; both fresh installs (apparently downgrading to SL is unsupported on this machine).  We tried patching FCP to 7.0.3 with Pro Application Update 2010-02, which did not resolve the problem.  We've since reverted to 7.0.0, to rule out the patch as the culprit. The reference movies in question do not contain any edits that would require a render, and everything's stored on a NAS that's accessible to the whole office (hence the fact that we're able to view the files on our Snow Leopard machines.
Picking apart the reference movie using Apple's Atom Inspector shows one curious detail in the alias data inside 'dref' atom inside of the reference movie (which is how QT figures out where the original media is).  Rather than being a simple file pointer, the alias actually contains a whole bunch of information, including the "relative" path to the video data, relative to the original location of the reference movie, as well as the absolute path of that file, starting from the root of the filesystem.  Both of these paths are presented in "Mac" and "Unix" formats, ie:
    Mac:   volume:folder1:folder2:filename
    Unix: /volume/folder1/folder2/filename
Key difference is the use of colons, rather than slashes to separate folders in the path.  At least, that was the key difference prior to Lion.  We've noticed that, while the SL machines export reference movies with paths that resemble the above, our Lion machine generates:
    Mac:   volume:folder1: folder2: filename
    Unix: /volume/folder1/folder2/filename
    (Notice the spaces)
When we attempt to play the movies with our Omneon applications or in QT X 10.1, our NAS throws a whole bunch of 'File not Found' errors.  Presumably, those spaces are the culprit.  Removing the spaces with a hex editor completely mangles the QT movie, and renders it compltetely unplayable.
Unfortunately, the alias data inside the dref atom doesn't appear to be a standard Mac OS alias, and the only documentation of the alias file format (linked above) is hilariously out of date.  Presently, the format is undocumented, and it appears that developers are discouraged from interacting with the files directly.  In other words, I have no way of knowing whether or not the spaces are actually significant, or are a completely innocuous and documented part of the file format.
Has anybody encountered anything similar, or found a solution?  I'm at a bit of a dead-end here, and would welcome any advice.

I totally understand where you're coming from; Apple's support of some of QuickTime's more advanced features has unfortunately been waning for some time now.
Avoiding the buggy parts of the program is always a good strategy, although the ability to quickly export reference movies is something that is absolutely vital to our workflow.  Simply put, losing these files is an absolute dealbreaker.
Two things seem to be going on... FCP on Lion appears to be generating slightly malformed reference movies, and QT X 10.2 seems to be freaking out when it tries to play back those movies (while prior versions are seemingly able to work around the problem).  I suppose this could have something to do with the introduction/evolution of QTKit and AV Foundation on Lion, although I'm surprised that this would be affecting FCP7, which was built around older APIs.

  • FCP preset and Exporting movie codec setup?

    Hello all,
I am using Canon 5D mark II to take the video clips, and editing them by FCP. The original video format from 5D2 is H.264, fps 30, .mov format. At the begining, I transfer it to ProRes422 format, and then edit it in FCP.
I am not familiar with the codecs, Can anyone teach how to setup the FCP Video/Audio Setting, the Sequence Preset and Capture Preset for my 5D Mark II video?
On the other hand, when I finish editing, I don't know what kind of codec and file format is better to make the file size smaller and also has good quility for exporting, please give me some advices! thanks!

Make a new sequence. Drag one of your converted ProRes clips into the timeline before you do anything else. You should get the option to change the sequence to match the clips. Do it.
As far as exporting goes there's no way to answer that without knowing where you're trying to get to when you export.

  • Sequence, Export, and Capture presets

Could someone explain to me the relationship (if any) of the Sequence presets to the Export presets. It seems to me that the sequence presets have to do with what I see on the computer, and the export presets are what the output is to be. And how does the captured material relate.
    Thanks
    Michael

The sequence is the internal codec FCP will use when editing.
If the captured file is the same codec as the sequence, FCP will be able to play the material on the timeline without rendering simple cuts. It will also have more real time effects available.
The export codec simply translates the internal codec of the sequence to the deliverable format of the output. Issues of frame proportion, frame rate and compression come into play here. If the sequence, captured file and export codecs are all the same, you have a very slick editing path. A major exception to this is HDV. It is an ugly kluge.
The manual is very well written and is a wonderful place to start reading about this relationship.

  • Import and Export settings and presets

    Thanks in advance.
Where can I save all the different import and export settings? Like if I just want to export Quicktime with audio and save that setting so I don't have to reset it every time. Thanks

I don't think you can in QT... You can in FCP by selecting CUSTOM as your setting when exporting to QT. Just rename the settings from custom to what you'd like it to be.

  • Automator export preset error

We've created an automator workflow to resize images in aperture, rename and upload to FTP. To recap this saved 4 image sizes from originals and uploaded them via ftp after adding filename suffixes. This runs on the latest version of OS X Lion 10.7.2, Aperture 3.2.2 and Automator.
It has 4 x export presets defined in Aperture. These are Full, Banner, Grid and Thumbnail images at different sizes.
These presets work fine from Aperture. The workflow works OK when it is limited to one image. When we add more, the export presets all default to the same size. I've set it to 'show the action when the workflow runs' – this shows an incorrect preset being applied at each stage…
Any ideas why the presets are not being correctly remembered by the workflow?

    Hi Frank
Here's some more information and a copy of the workflow. The aperture presets will not stay when I save a copy of the workflow – I've included screengrabs.
    I also get the following applescript error when opening a saved or duplicated version;
