OS X Lion and gtk problems
We are trying to install our Gtk app on new Lion laptop. Installed Macport for php5-gtk. App loads okay and retrieves data just fine, but the windows are very small and those that should open up maximized won't. Also, the command to position the window in the center of the screen fails.
App works fine on Tiger and Snow Leopard using same install. Obviously we're missing something this time around, but no clue as to what that could be.
Any help is welcome.
and in order to try and fix this problem I attempted to update the OS on the computer - this didn't work either.

I have installed Lion and have problems to print PDF from prewiev. When trying to print Prewiev locks. Anyone out there with the same problem?
Hello David and Nicole
I just installed Lion on my iMac, which was purchased in 2007, and I cannot print from Preview; it keeps locking up and not responding. So, I have to force quit Preview. I have been sending error reports to Apple. I suggest everyone who has this problem, send error reports!
I can print from other applications, like Pages, with my Canon Laserjet. I do not think it is a printer issue becasue I can print in other application.
I took your advice and installed Adobe reader. Now I can print pdf's.
Thanks

Updated Mt Lion and email problem
HI, I just updated to a newer version of Mountain Lion OS and when I went to check my email with the mail, I found I could no longer acess my google mail account or school mail account, which I had previously linked to receive emails into my mac email account. Whenever I try to connect to them it says that it cannot connect to the account and promts me to enter my password for the outside account. I do this, (and enter the correct password for each account) but the prompt keeps popping up and doesn't take my password. Also the mail connection docotr says "trying to log in to this Google IMAP account failed. Verify username and password are correct." I even tried deleting both accounts from the mail and then re-creating them and still have to same problem! Any insight would be appreciated!!
Thanks.Welcome to Apple Support Communities

Update xfree 4.3 and gtk problem
I have 2 problem after update from pacman -Syu:
1. the font in the gtk application is disappeared. gftp, rox, xchat and more
see example: http://web.ntrade.it/shot/gftp.jpg
and gnome 2.2 d'ont work.
2. The vmware start error:
$ vmware
XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":0.0"
after 3797 requests (3796 known processed) with 27 events remaining.
someone has some idea. Tanks for helpOk. I thought I'd check this with the X (ver 4.3.0-2) I have installed before downloading the updates for my systems (which may take some time.) So far, from a clean install and having the init hacks in place, vmware installed and seems to run fine. I will try this again after I get whatever files I must have via ftp but I'm on a 56k ISP so it will be at least late tomorrow for sure.
You might try re-installing from the tarball although I don't know how much difference this will make. Unfortunately, there is no uninstall option for the non-rpm install method.
FWIW, the init hacks mentioned in the other vmware install text are simply to fool the installer. IIRC, the config never touches them at any later date. All vmware needs for proper operation is the daemon run at startup and properly compiled modules. With this in mind, it might be possible to create a pacman PKGBUILD file than can install the program. This is simply an excercise in logic as they are developing version 4 which is in beta release right now. -

Mountain Lion and memory problems
I have a Macbook Air (1.8 GHz i7, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD) and just installed Mountain Lion. Previous OS was Lion, final version. And suddenly my computer is bogging down and I get messages that say "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory." I get these messages and my computer hangs--this has happened several times today and I've had to force restart.
It is not because I have too little hard disk space available, because 165 GB of my 250 GB hard drive is free. And it is not because I am running too many apps--I even got this message once with the only open app being Activity Monitor.
Here's what I've tried:
1. Disabling Java and Javascript
2. Repairing disk permissions
3. Verifying the disk (using Disk Utility)
4. Restarting
5. Running Omni Disk Sweeper (which confirms that most of my hard disk is free)
I have not turned off Spotlight or Backblaze.
The processes that keep spiking between 400 MB and 1 GB of memory (per Activity Monitor) are kernel_task, mds, and bztransmit (the last might be from Backblaze, but I've even had these messages when this process was using almost no memory).
Right now I've been able to use Safari long enough to file this question to Apple Support Communities, but I have only 8.7 MB of free RAM (per Activity Monitor), which makes no sense given the 4 GB RAM in my Mac and the fact that I'm running only Activity Monitor and only one window in Safari.
Suggestions appreciated! My problem is slightly different than you guys' - in my case, if I leave my MacBook Pro (summer 2012, 8GB RAM, 750GB hd, with 412GB available) up and running for more than 2-3 few days it gradually crawls to a halt, with many GB of page outs, no free memory, and bztransmit using massive amounts of virtual memory. It doesn't seem to matter how much content is being backed up either - at the time I took this screenshot, Backblaze was fully backed up, and had been for a few days. I never get the "out of memory" error that you guys are seeing, though - the machine just becomes highly unresponsive (talking like 30+ seconds to open a tab in Safari, or switch between apps - that sort of thing).
I am using Exchange calendars too, to so I'm wondering if my issue could be related to that after all. -
Hi guys,
before Mountain Lion came out, I had my Mac Book Pro mid 2010, nicely connected to my DENON AVR-1912 amplifier through HDMI. The Amplifier would send the signal to the TV and manage the Audio as well.
Since Mountain Lion came out, I could not anymore use my iWires HDMI cable to connect my MacBookPro to the amplifier, as my Mac would not recognize anymore my amplifier as a TV and therefore would not give me the display option that it used to give me with Lion. Result- I can not adjust the signal that goes through the HDMI cable and the signal is not recognised by the amplifier and then transmitted onto the tv. NO SIGNAL
So I went to the apple store and was told I could use the Apple tv 3rd Gen to do that. So I bought it, and went back home. After having installed and realised that it didn't worked as well, I've called the Apple customer Service. They told me thta unfortunately, since I have a Mac Book Pro bought in mid 2010, I can not benefit from the mirroring function (Come on an i7 processor is absolutely good enough to do that). I asked if I could upgrade my Mac to a machine able to do that as I need this functionality. I was told I can't. I have to buy an other machine and sell mines through their recycle program....
So I returned my apple TV 3rd Generation, and decided to buy a VeeBeam HD. This product says that I can easily stream from a Macbook Pro with an i7 and 4Gb of ram to my TV. However, when the Veebeam arrived today, I tried to install it... and it didn't work, why? Because Apple has changed some "protocols" and does not allow anymore third party companis to produce products that stream data from Apple products to a TV.
So... my dear Apple, how am I meant to watch what I've got on my laptop (movies, music and stuff) on my TV going through my Amplifier now? It really seems I can not go by cable (the cable Apple sells- iWires), I can not use the Apple TV3rd Gen, and I can not use third party products.
IS this normal to you?Hi guys,

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?
Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
Reboot normally and test. -
