I updated to OS X Lion and now I am no longer able to log in with my MBP, 4 months old, to a web site using Juniper. Safar 1 does not support this and some message about Cocoa and Java.
My safari is up to date. Please help me. Apple store can't help me.

Try a different browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome.

  • Mac OS X Lion and Java 7u4

    Hi,
I just bought Mac OS X Lion for the single reason to use Java FX 2.1.
    No Java preinstalled.
Then I downloaded and installed jdk-7u4-macosx-x64.dmg.
The I had the folder: /Library/Java which included JDK 1.7.
I tried to start IntelliJ 11. But it complains about that no Java Runtime is installed.
Then I started the 1.7.0.jdk file and it complained, too, that I'd need a JRE.
    What the heck?
I followed the dialog and it downloaded an JRE, but it was JRE 1.6.0_31-b04-415-11M3646
I also noticed, that I have two folders:
    /System/Library/Java
    /Library/Java
The former is for 1.6, the latter 1.7.
I am very confused! Can somebody help?

IntelliJ 11 uses Apple's bundled Java application support. Bundled OS X Java applications built with Apple's tools require Apple's JDK 6 and cannot use Oracle's JDK. So, to run IntelliJ itself you need to install an Apple JDK first.
You now have two JDKs on your system: the Java 7 JDK from Oracle in /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines, and Java 6u31 from Apple in /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines. You can certainly use JDK 7 to run the code you are developing in IDEA, but not IDEA itself right now. IDEA will need to update their product to stop using Apple's deprecated technologies.
This is all correct behavior, but I do think the wording of the alert you get when you need to install an Apple JDK is confusing. We'll let Apple know.

  • Mountain Lion and Java 7

I have run the java update 7u10 and it told me I have installed it fine.  Previously I was running version 6, but for minecraft tekkit I apparently need version 7.
However when I choose java preferences i get to choose from version 6, 32 or 64 bit versions only, no sign of 7.
So i decide to try a slightly older version, but when I run that install I get the message that a newer version is already installed.
OK, I thought, delete all versions and start again.....
following instructions I go to livrary/java/javavirtualmachines whenere there should be some files....  but nope - nothing - nada.
AAArrrrrght. I thought myself to be at least slightly intelligent, but I cant even get a simple install working.
    Please, any help is appreciated.

AFAIK, the latest for Macs is 7u7. That installs a prefPane in Sys Prefs and you use that. See http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/mac-faq.html for details.

Open "Java Preferences" either from spotlight or your utilities folder...it's probably going to say you need to install a java runtime. Then just click install!

For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care center via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center.  I get an error message for Java plug-in 1.6.0_29 ....webcam class not found.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest unless there's a URL to the problem stream that someone here can try. Otherwise we can't test it to try and determine what might be wrong.
BTW, make sure they're testing it with a Mac, not with a Windows system. If they test only with Windows, what they say is or is not working doesn't mean much.
    Regards.

  • I installed Lion and now CS4 won't open. I get a note that Java Runtime needs to be installed and to open Adobe again and it will let me, but it doesn't and it also won't update Java...

I installed Lion and now CS4 won't open.  I get a note that sayd "you need to install Java runing, but you are not connected to the internet (BUT I AM CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET).  It goes on to say "to install Java runtime later, open "Adobe Illustrator CS4" again....I try but it still won't let me open Adobe Illustrator or update Java

  • OS X Lion DMG and Java Issues

I have a serious issue with my Lion installation.  In the process of upgrading from Snow Leopard through 10.7 to 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 somewhere in there, Java got badly broken.  I tried re-downloading Java for Lion and reinstalling but it gives me an idiot message that my OS version is not compatible.  ***?
So I open the package with Pacifist and do an install to default location from the top of the package and all the Java stuff works again.  But then within about three days I can no longer open DMG files.  I double click them and nothing happens.  Disk utility won't launch.  If I reinstall the 10.7. combo update, Disk Utility works and DMG files open but if I try to connect to a streaming Java service such as used by Go To Webinar, I never get anywhere.  So I am at the point where I can either work with DMG files OR I can use Go To Webinar but not both.
This is idiotic to me, but I cannot even begin to figure out why Java gets broken by applying an update and why my ability to work with DMG files keeps going away and if the two are actually related or there is just some weird timing juxtaposition.
Anyone who has seen this problem and figured out a solution, please wade in.
    Thanks!
    Ross

Well, the issue doesn't seem to be in your User since the Combo Update doesn't touch anything in your User Account. This being the case and assuming you have a backup of your account on another disk, I'd do a clean install of Lion. Then in Setup Assistant migrate over all your stuff.

  • I have installed Lion and the Java update but my CS5 PS will not open jpegs to edit.

I have loaded Lion, and updated my Java but for some reason my Photoshop doesn't want to load pictures. I can see them in the layers, but the actual image is just not coming up. Maybe this is nothing to do with Lion, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great! Really don't want to have to reload everything from SL if possible. My other Adobe programs work fine.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

After Java is installed, you may need to enable it.
In your Applications > Utilities folder, you should find the Java Preferences.app.
Double click on that, and in the ‘General’ tab, make sure that the enable checkbox at the top is checked.

  • Have installed Mountain Lion and need Java. Help

    Hi,
I installed Mountain Lion this past week.
I am subscribed to two games sites. They both require me to have Java to use them.
I read after I installed ML that there is no Java in this. However, I guess I still had the Apple Java from Snow Leopard.
But, I thought I had to install Java 7 (think at some point I was asked to update Java and it took me to that.
I then read that Chrome can't use the Java I had installed.
So I then tried to use Safari.
Then I picked up FireFox again. I used to have FireFox but had not used it in a while.
Finally managed to get FireFox to run the one site. Quadplex.
However nothing would allow me to use Pogo. I can get to the main page on Pogo, but when I try to activate the games there, it sits and loads and loads and eventually as it SHOULD open it just up and disappears!
Eventually in some of my searching, I read that Java 7 is not secure. That there is a security issue in it.
I searched until I found where I could uninstall Java 7. And I did that. Then I clicked on the link that said I could install the Apple Java that I had managed to get rid of originally (well I assume it is gone since even after a restart, Safari does not let me play anything requiring Java.
I tried to reinstall the Apple Java and got to what I had read was the "terminal". I began to try the commands that were posted on the Apple support page I was on, but it asked for an Administrator Password. To my knowledge I have never had that on my Mac. I usually just click where the window pops up to ask for it and that window goes away and I can install anything without entering any password. But in the "terminal" I tried to just click on the return to go to the next step in the commands routine and it would not allow me to continue.
I am on a MacPro 15" purchased in August 2009 and which has been refurbished due to me having spilled a drink all over the keys area of it in November of 2010. It has been working great until I went ahead and installed Mountain Lion and now have removed the Java download as I read it is not secure and can expose Mac users to something refered to as "drive by" viruses.
I am really at a loss here. The tech I would normally go to may or may not be available this week and I really am frustrated by missing out on my daily gaming.
Any one here who can help with my problem?
    Thanks, Carine (aka catonwheels)

Thanks Baltwo...and yes it did...by the time I got your response (and it was great that you sent it!) I had already FINALLY found that I needed 7u11 and then found THAT! I had tried to find it after reading about it somewhere during my surfing for a solution but couldn't seem to find it and then when I clicked on an update link SOMEWHERE I was taken right to it. I remembered that the original Java I had downloaded did not have 11 in it and so I downloaded the one that was at that link where I was taken and voila! It worked...however, had I NOT found it having you respond to my help plea would have fixed it and I thank you for taking the time. I had gone to Oracle originally to find this update but somehow I did not get it the first time round. So this would have been great had I not fallen over it when I did. Again, thank you and now at least I am in this community and will have a lot of support and info when I need it! :-)

  • I just got a new MacBook Pro (Os X Lion) and wanna transfer my iTunes from my Old MacBook (I think it is Mac Os X Tiger)

When I turned on my lap top for first time, it asked me if I wanted to transfer files with the help assistant and said No, I havent been able to find it again. I transferred from my PC to Mac like 4 years ago using an external hard drive but thought it was another way to do it. I have no space to do it using my Iphone btw, since I dont have double space free in the phone.

You can transfer your files from an older Mac using Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder. See:
How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
OS X Lion- How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
    Migration Assistant tips and tricks
Or you can copy files to an external drive and transfer them that way.
    Oh, and see:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

OS X Lion: How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

I have just installed Mountain Lion and received a message "speech synthesis server.app could not be opened because it is damaged or incomplete", please can you advise me what to do next? Thanks

Something went wrong with your upgrade.
Back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • Mountain Lion and Flash CS6

Wondering if I can get some clarification on an issue i'm having with Flash CS6 and mountain lion 10.8.3:
I recently purchased a 27" iMac i7 3.4Ghz 16Gram for use as a work machine running Flash CS6.  However any time I open any .fla (flash file) larger than 50m the application crashes to desktop.  I have searched the adobe communities and it seems that Flash CS6 is listed as incompatible with Mountain Lion, however many people run it without issues.
My question is this:  is Flash CS6 truly incompatible with the Mountain Lion os?  if so is there a way to reinstall a previous version of os x that is compatible with flash (snow leopard, lion) while I wait for the compatibility issue to be fixed?  Is there a current workaround for Flash CS6 on mountain lion that will allow me to manage large files?
I have attempted to run flash both with the most recent java 7 17 and java 6 43, I have tried it without the adobe flash update 2 and without, and I have adjusted the java heap space.  none of these attempts has resulted in any improvement.  I can open and create new files without any problem, but the inability to handle any file over ~50m severly limits my ability to work in OS X Mountain Lion and makes working on my current project impossible.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me or even just an answer to my question about compatibility as I was very excited to upgrade to the mac hardware for device testing and the xcode goodies integrated with CS6 and now I find myself stuck having to return to my old and less than ideal hardware spec (not to mention the cost of the new iMac that now cannot be used for my current project).
    Thank you for your time.

Yep -- you're describing the EXACT issue that Adobe warns of on their incompatibility notice.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/mountain-lion-support-flash-professional.html
Guess it's a good thing that Flash is dying.......because even 10 months after a new OS release, Adobe has no word on fixes.

  • Safari issues with Tabs, Video, and Java

Hi.  I updated to Lion and Safari 5.1 and did all the software updates.  I have a MacBook from 2008.  For some reason, I am having a lot of issues with Safari.  I hope someone knows what I am doing wrong.
    1.  Every time I open Safari after I turn on my computer or it wakes up from sleep, I have to do an internet test to get the computer to realize I am still connected to my house WiFi.
    2. The computer goes to sleep after 30 secs.  Can I change this somehow?
    3. I cannot open any videos from YouTube or vidoes my friends have posted on Facebook.
    4. I used to be able to drag a link over an existing tab and it would automatically go there.  Now I have to drag it to the + sign to get it to open.  (command click still works)
    5.  I tried to check my plug-ins to see if that was the problem.  I put all of my internet plug-ins in the trash and added them one by one.  Safari seemed to work a lot faster, but then as soon as it went to sleep, I had the same issues.  Also, I can't find Java anymore (not in my trash, didn't delete anything from the trash) and I did the java test on a website and it's not showing what it's supposed to.  All the software updates say it is fine, but obviously it isn't.
I know this is a lot of stuff, and most of it is probably due to me not really understanding how my mac works.  I've been looking through the forums to see if anyone else has all of these issues; after an hour and a half of reading discussions, I gave up.  Any advice would be really appreciated.  Thank you.

So, while waiting for some help, I've been continuing my own research.
    3. It turned out that it wasn't Java messing with my videos.  I just needed version 10,3,181,34 of Adobe Flash and now all videos are working.   Hope that helps if anyone else was having similar issues.  Here's the link if you need to find out which version you have: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    4.  It turns out that there are several other discussions regarding people who can't drag and drop links into Tabs on Safari.  My solution was to write to Apple to ask if they can put that feature back in.
    5. I'm not sure if I am still having Java issues, but so far everything I am needing to upload and watch is fine.
One and two are still annoying, so I'll continue to look for solutions.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.  Hope this helps someone as much as it helped me.  I don't want to throw my computer against a wall every 5 seconds now.

  • Photoshop CS6 and Java. Why?

After the reality of how Java is a big huge security risk, is old technology, and after Apple dropped it from the default install of Lion—and after it sounded like Adobe removed the dependency of requiring Java Runtime, why or why is my fresh install of Photoshop CS6 requiring Java?
Why? What does PS need this for?
Is there any way to install without Java? Any thoughts?
I'm running a fresh install of Lion on a MBP. Installed Design premium CS6 as a digital download.

Ah, good to know. Yes, I'm on running the latest version of Lion.
So from Adobe's perspective, do you download Java, then can you remove it if it's not necessary for CS6? If so, would you know what Java file to look for to remove? (I know Lion installs other framework files for Java, which I don't want to mess with deleting at all.)
...or does it not get installed in this process, and this is all a runaround?
    Thank you,
    Michael
