OS X Lion crashes frequently, cause determined - how to fix it?
Hello everyone,
After scouring the internet for someone with a similar problem as mine, I've come to the conclusion that mine seems to be unique.
Now, the problem I'm dealing with is that my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010, Corei7) freezes up every time I undertake specific actions. When my MacBook Pro freezes, the screen goes black any audio segment that was playing at that moment starts looping. To escape this frozen state I am forced to do a forced shutdown, because it won't respond any other way.
The strange thing is, is that it only freezes during particular actions. These are:
Using Quick Preview (space bar), and switching between items using Quick Preview.
Opening a 'Browse...' window, allowing you to upload files in Google Chrome.
Downloading files in Google Chrome.
Using Mission Control.
Now, the freeze doesn't occur every time I use these features, so basically it's like making a gamble every time, hoping my work doesn't get lost.
As an attempt to try and fix this issue, I've already tried a clean install of OS X Lion, but unfortunately the problem remains.
Is there anyone out there with the same problem, or is there someone who might know how to fix it?
In any case, thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Cris
This seems to be happening to quite a few people.
I've seen it suggested that booting into the recovery disk (power on while holding down 'command' and 'r'), going to Disk Utility in the menu bar and repairing the disk might help.

I sent a huge message on imessage and now whenever I open it it crashes, any ideas on how to fix it?
If you haven't already done so, then try closing the Message app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the iPad's home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Message app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -

My YouTube crashed in my iPad how to fix the bug
If there's a bug with YouTube, the YouTube developers would have to fix it. You cannot fix other people's apps.
Try re-loafing the YouTube app - it may have been a temporary glitch. -
Suddenly nearly all apps on my iPad2 crash, homescreen is back. how to fix this?
Hi,
once my apple-id was locked and i needed to change my password, nearly all the apps on my iPad 2 crashes after they've launched. For example i want to check email, read a new email and suddenly i'm back in homescreen. When i start up Mail.app again, the last state was back after i checked email again. So all emails of the last time needed to be loaded again.
I used facetime and suddenly i'm also back in the homescreen and the facetime-connection is closed. I've rebootet my iPad more times, changed the apple-id and password again also in my iPad. I also deleted the iCloud-configuration on my iPad and also the iCloud-EMail.
My Apple-ID with new name and password is working fine on my MacBook and i could also connect to icloud.com. Only my ipad is not working well. Also the settings.app was closed suddenly after i want to re-enter my icloud configuration. so i have deleted the icloud-config an don't use iCloud at moment.
My iPad is the 64 GB model, without jailbreak. I just checked the SSD-Size in settings.app and when i typed the words on this line, the settings.app is crashed and back to home-screen.
When i double-tap the home-button, i still could see the crashed apps there.
How to solve this problem? Anybody an idea?
Sorry for my poor english, i have learned english a long long time ago in school.
Greetings,
JanHi there,
i got some news. I have made factory-reset and restored the backup made with iTunes. After that, my iPad worked well again, like normal. The problem is, after a few days, i could get back the same problems like before. The battery is discharging faster, because i think the iPad is working in the background a lot. Poor that apple didn't include a taskmanager where i can see the cpu-load. But when i launch the application "kill", i could see that the memory-usage is normal after reset and restore, a few days later it's higher again. Actually this error is back, so i can't really use any app normal. After any time, the app crashes. I also want to use the AppStore, but today i needed around 10 times to get it working. I launch the AppStore, then after a few seconds i'm back in homescreen. Maybe after the 10th launch i didn't get back to homescreen and i could read a bit in the AppStore.
Any other ideas about that? I've made restart of the iPad more times, but i can't get it back working again.

Is anyone else seeing crashes (kernel panics) on an almost daily basis with Lion? I've had this intermittantly since upgrading, now on 10.7.2. It will happen when you're just reading a web page, opening a spreadsheet, etc. -- very random. I have 2 active accounts running and it happens on both. Just get the nice black screen that comes across telling you to restart. At least in 10.7.2 you get the auto-restart... in 10.7.1 it just hung and you had to physcially restart.
Hardware seems to check out.
Thanks!and here is yesterday's log...

I downloaded and installed OS X Mountain Lion last night and everything was working normally. I started working in Photoshop CS4 this morning (the first time after installing ML) and when I try to drag a layer to create a new layer, or when I try to move a layer to another PS document, it shows the beach ball of death and then crashes. It has crashed on other occasions, not just doing these actions. Before installing ML I haven't really ever had a problem with PS crashing. I reinstalled PS earlier today to see if that would help but it still crashes. Any ideas on why this is happening or how I can fix it?
Thanks for any replies, in advance. While CS4 is getting a bit old in the tooth now, Adobe says there are no known issues as of the 25th !

Migration from PowerPC 10.5.8 to iMac lion using wifi hangs! How to fix?
It has been showing 10 hours and 40 minutes for the last couple of hours. What to do? How to restart the process? The brand new out of the box iMac does not have a back button! Help!
The problem is you are using a wireless connection, this type of connections is too slow to use for a migration. Your migration using this method could take about a week and no I'm not kidding! I would recommend starting over this time using a cable like this one. This time use Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips to guide you, begin reading at second chance.
You can find the cable at any computer store, Best Buy, Radio Shack etc... -

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back. -

To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
Then install iWeb from the disk it came on originally and apply all necessary updates.

Numbers crashing. Repeatedably. How to fix?
I built a Numbers doc with three sheets and a tableon each, a chart on one.
Trying to enter a formula in a cell that references a cell in a table on another sheet.
=[cell reference this sheet]*[cell reference other sheet]
Accepts the first cell reference but when I go to the other sheet and click that target cell, expecting the formula to take on the cell reference, instead there's a blink, and I'm dumped back to the first sheet with nothing in the cell where I'm trying to put the formula. The cell is selected, but empty.
Every time.
I can enter a formula in a cell in the other sheet and incorporate a cell reference to the first sheet, but not the other way around.
And this is a file that already has other functioning inter-sheet cell references.
Then, or shortly thereafter, Numbers will crash. I've sent several reports to Apple today. I've lost a lot of time.
So something's wrong, obviously.
I don't think it's a font problem, as everything is and has been in Gill Sans with no problem.
What should I do? Search out the .plist file and trash it? I've tried quitting the application and restarting, restarting the MacBook Pro, reverting to an earlier version of the spreadhseet that worked while I was building it.
Nothing helps. Can't make the formula with a cell reference to the other sheet. Crash.I apologize but a Numbers sheet can't contain a cell.
Sheets contain only tables, pictures, shapes, text boxes, charts, multimedia items.
Given that, a cell never reference a sheet.

it says " check online for a solution "
Click the Spotlight magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen.
Type in: Safari
See if multiple Safari apps show up.
If there's only one, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test. -
Mountain Lion Crashes on resume from sleep
Is anyone else having problems with Mountain Lion crashing frequently on resume from sleep? I have tried using both the default "sleep and hibernate" mode and switching to hibernate only. In both modes, OSX "gray" screens just after it appears to finish resuming from sleep mode. This is an Early 2011 MBP 15" with a clean Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion.
It is starting to look like another failed upgrade, "sigh". I haven't had any luck with OSX OS upgades and always seems like I end up rebuilding.Same happening here. I also have a problem with Mail.app crashing when I close the window with cmd+w. My upgrade to Mountain Lion was applied Lion that had been migrated from my old MacBook.
The migrated setup was working fine for just over a week before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately I didn't check that Time Machine was backing up my machine and it turns out I don't have that as an option of rolling back to Lion.
Hoping that a fix is found to both problems. Fairly confident given that other people are reporting the same, even on a clean upgrade. -
My four year old Macbook Pro couldn't start yesterday and after going through solutions and all, it worked. But now it's freaking laggy and whenever I want to open an app, it takes a long time or the app will just crash. Any idea how to fix it? I really need the speed and everything back.
noeleeeen,
so you have an external hard disk, onto which you deleted/moved files from your internal hard disk, so that you now have 143 GB or so free on your internal hard disk — is that correct? Is the external disk purely for backups (e.g. a Time Machine destination), or does it function as a supplement to your internal disk?
Was it entirely your personal data files (documents, photos, movies, music, &c.) which you’d deleted or moved to the external disk, or did you also delete/move apps, libraries, &c. over there?
I’m not familiar with Echofon Lite, so I can’t comment on it, but an Apple-supplied app like the App Store shouldn’t crash.
Have you tried running Disk Utility yet, to see if its verification process gives your disks its seal of approval? -
