OS X Lion DMG and Java Issues
I have a serious issue with my Lion installation. In the process of upgrading from Snow Leopard through 10.7 to 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 somewhere in there, Java got badly broken. I tried re-downloading Java for Lion and reinstalling but it gives me an idiot message that my OS version is not compatible. ***?
So I open the package with Pacifist and do an install to default location from the top of the package and all the Java stuff works again. But then within about three days I can no longer open DMG files. I double click them and nothing happens. Disk utility won't launch. If I reinstall the 10.7. combo update, Disk Utility works and DMG files open but if I try to connect to a streaming Java service such as used by Go To Webinar, I never get anywhere. So I am at the point where I can either work with DMG files OR I can use Go To Webinar but not both.
This is idiotic to me, but I cannot even begin to figure out why Java gets broken by applying an update and why my ability to work with DMG files keeps going away and if the two are actually related or there is just some weird timing juxtaposition.
Anyone who has seen this problem and figured out a solution, please wade in.
Thanks!
Ross

Well, the issue doesn't seem to be in your User since the Combo Update doesn't touch anything in your User Account. This being the case and assuming you have a backup of your account on another disk, I'd do a clean install of Lion. Then in Setup Assistant migrate over all your stuff.

I'm trying to use Microsoft Livemeeting 2007 - browser and java issues
My browser and java versions are apparently too new, and I can't seem to figure out how to download and use past versions to properly use the Livemeeting software. I know Livemeeting is outdated software, but this is what the client I'm working with is using, and I need to be able to join web conferences for document viewing/sharing, etc. Any help would be most appreciated, as I've spent hours trying to figure this out, but nothing seems to be working.
Maybe try this??

Osx 10.8 mountain lion compatibility and crashing issues
I upgraded my old mac laptop a special edition 1278 that is aluminum unibody, yes they do exist. It has 2Ghz intel core2duo 8gb ram a 7200rpm hyrid 500gb hard drive on a 13" frame with the now standard one big button touchpad. I had gone from snow to lion to now mountain lion.
Well, FIRST WARNING, I ASSUMED Adobe Creative Cloud should work with mountain lion since it was working with lion, WRONG!
upon upgrading completeing, and trying to launch Adobe Creative Cloud CS6 Dreamweaver,I was informed by Adobe application control that "your computer is not authorized to use adobe creative cloud....can not activate software....you have already reached the maximum activations of two".
Well one of the activations was this laptop running lion and now since I didn't know to deactivate the software before upgrading I can't deactivate it and then reactivate it under mountain lion.
The ONLY adobe solution?....get ready for this....Deactivate my subscription killing all computers ability to use the adobe software, ALL PRODUCTS for....get ready for this....24 hours. Then I can reactivate the two computers i want to use the software on.
Unacceptable solution. especially since further checking on many sites DO NOT LIST CS6 Products to be compatible with mountain lion.
Secondly, since upgrading to mountain lion and it upgrading xcode and xcode related files....it crashes when trying to run programs/apps during development.
It doesn't matter how complex or simple they are...they can be lank apple supplied templates. If i click Products->Run a few seconds later xcode crash!
If you have a fix for either of these issues please drop me a line with useful suggestions I appreciate it.
and no. let's be clear on this-although it feels this way, my head is not up my....thank you for that comment or suggestion up front
I am looking for a serious solution.

I'm on a 2008 Macbook Pro. The initial installation went smoothly for me. I'm not sure where to download the VUSB software online, I believe it downloaded the file when I was using the Connect Cloud setup interface. I clicked on devices, then add device, then usb printer. It should walk you through the steps and download VUSB during that process. -
Hi, i am using a brand new MBP with Leopard. I play a java based game called Runescape in one window, and in another window i have their (also java) forum opened. When i try to switch windows, by ex. clicking on a link in forum window, there is some flashing of both windows appearing (like one is highlighted and than another), and i have to click more than 2 or 3 times before the desired window is selected. I have no such problems on my PowerBook G4 with tiger and latest Safari on it. Any ideas?
The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.

Logic 9 Lion Clips and Notes issue
Hi,
After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion I have now a really annoying bug in Logic Pro 9.
When I click and drag clips (on tracks) or notes (in the keyboard view), the clip/note movement is not shown. When I release the mouse button: the clip/note is moved, but the problem is that I can't "target well" where I want to put it.
Is there a way to fix that?
Thanks,

OracleDI Installation and Java issues
I am brand new to ODI and just downloaded and installed it yesterday onto a test machine. I have not yet created my DB schemas yet I am waiting for the DBA to create a Test Environment for me to do so in. That being said, when i try to run the Examples that came with the Oracle Data Integrator the OracleDI Demo Repository, Source Data Server and Target Data Server all start up in cmd windows and on all three cmd windows is a statement: "A JDK is required to execute Web Services with OracleDI. You are currently using a JRE"
My system is Windows XP Pro based, I downloaded and installed both j2sdk-1_4_2_17-windows-i586-p.exe and jdk-1_5_0_15-windows-i586-p.exe, but i still receive the same warning on the cmd windows.
Any ideas on how i can switch to the JDK instead of using the JRE? Or any ideas on how to stop this warning from showing up?
Thank you in advance for all the comments and suggestions.
Tom CusickODI uses ODI_JAVA_HOME environment variable to find java.exe
if ODI_JAVA_HOME is not defined it uses JAVA_HOME
For standard features a JRE 1.5 is enough however for Data Service generation ODI needs a JDK 1.5 .
Please be sure the path in ODI_JAVA_HOME is really a JDK
To find out what you are running from a default JVM ( to see if you have a JDK already installed ), type java - version on a command prompt ( what your JAVA_HOME is ).
Find out what your ODI_JAVA_HOME is set to presently ( likely JRE 1.4.2 ). Set it to a JDK 1.5 ( you will need to download a JDK 1.5 for your platform ( not sure which OS you are running ) if you don't already have one ).

Safari issues with Tabs, Video, and Java
Hi. I updated to Lion and Safari 5.1 and did all the software updates. I have a MacBook from 2008. For some reason, I am having a lot of issues with Safari. I hope someone knows what I am doing wrong.
1. Every time I open Safari after I turn on my computer or it wakes up from sleep, I have to do an internet test to get the computer to realize I am still connected to my house WiFi.
2. The computer goes to sleep after 30 secs. Can I change this somehow?
3. I cannot open any videos from YouTube or vidoes my friends have posted on Facebook.
4. I used to be able to drag a link over an existing tab and it would automatically go there. Now I have to drag it to the + sign to get it to open. (command click still works)
5. I tried to check my plug-ins to see if that was the problem. I put all of my internet plug-ins in the trash and added them one by one. Safari seemed to work a lot faster, but then as soon as it went to sleep, I had the same issues. Also, I can't find Java anymore (not in my trash, didn't delete anything from the trash) and I did the java test on a website and it's not showing what it's supposed to. All the software updates say it is fine, but obviously it isn't.
I know this is a lot of stuff, and most of it is probably due to me not really understanding how my mac works. I've been looking through the forums to see if anyone else has all of these issues; after an hour and a half of reading discussions, I gave up. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.So, while waiting for some help, I've been continuing my own research.
3. It turned out that it wasn't Java messing with my videos. I just needed version 10,3,181,34 of Adobe Flash and now all videos are working. Hope that helps if anyone else was having similar issues. Here's the link if you need to find out which version you have: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
4. It turns out that there are several other discussions regarding people who can't drag and drop links into Tabs on Safari. My solution was to write to Apple to ask if they can put that feature back in.
5. I'm not sure if I am still having Java issues, but so far everything I am needing to upload and watch is fine.
One and two are still annoying, so I'll continue to look for solutions. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Hope this helps someone as much as it helped me. I don't want to throw my computer against a wall every 5 seconds now. -
Hi,
I just bought Mac OS X Lion for the single reason to use Java FX 2.1.
No Java preinstalled.
Then I downloaded and installed jdk-7u4-macosx-x64.dmg.
The I had the folder: /Library/Java which included JDK 1.7.
I tried to start IntelliJ 11. But it complains about that no Java Runtime is installed.
Then I started the 1.7.0.jdk file and it complained, too, that I'd need a JRE.
What the heck?
I followed the dialog and it downloaded an JRE, but it was JRE 1.6.0_31-b04-415-11M3646
I also noticed, that I have two folders:
/System/Library/Java
/Library/Java
The former is for 1.6, the latter 1.7.
I am very confused! Can somebody help?IntelliJ 11 uses Apple's bundled Java application support. Bundled OS X Java applications built with Apple's tools require Apple's JDK 6 and cannot use Oracle's JDK. So, to run IntelliJ itself you need to install an Apple JDK first.
You now have two JDKs on your system: the Java 7 JDK from Oracle in /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines, and Java 6u31 from Apple in /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines. You can certainly use JDK 7 to run the code you are developing in IDEA, but not IDEA itself right now. IDEA will need to update their product to stop using Apple's deprecated technologies.
This is all correct behavior, but I do think the wording of the alert you get when you need to install an Apple JDK is confusing. We'll let Apple know.

Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows what's going on with my Filemaker Database that will not view properly on my desktop after upgrading from 10.5 to 10.6.8 on
my MacBook Pro. Is this a Java issue? The data is all there but all I see is blank boxes when I open or click on a specific area in the database.
My Java version is SE 6 1.6.0.37-bo6-434.Let me understand:
- you have purchased named canon, which is conencted to your PC running windows xp
- downloaded driver for win xp, and canon works fine
- canon is connected to that PC via USB
- that Canon is also activated as network printer, by allowing print sharing in windows; how did you set that option?
- now, you are in Mac OS x 10.6.8, downloaded Canon driver for Mac OS X, installed it, detected printer on the network, printer was installed; was it detected as attached to that PC running win XP? or not?
or you set canon by being connected to your mac directly via USB?
Now, there are some questions you should answer as some details are missing, and your initial text is not clear. Can you print if Canon is connected directly to your mac? did you try that? if not, do it before answering. -

Newbie help with 12i and firefox java issue
We are in the testing stages for a 12i upgrade. I’m currently testing browser and java version compatibility using an upgraded test system. My problem is the version of java on the desktop client. IE7 will launch the apps fine with any version of java. However, any version of Firefox (including just released v3) will not launch java unless java version 5 update 13 is loaded. I’ve reviewed several metalink docs including 389422.1 and 393931.1 and have used the workaround listed forcing FF to use the older version of java. However, that means that we will have to roll out this older version of java to all clients to use Firefox. During my research I found where Oracle provides a techstack update for 11i (290807.1) that will fix this issue and allow Firefox to work with newer versions of java. Has anyone else run into this issue and if so how did you address it? Is there a 12i update that will fix this issue? I’m a newbie that’s started supporting Oracle, etc. so forgive me for any ignorance I show on the subject. Thanks in advance.
Tod,
It sounds like your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 instance is configured to request end-users to use JRE 1.5.0_13.
Firefox has a known limitation (or feature, depending on your point of view): it will invoke only the specified JRE version requested by the E-Business Suite, even if later versions of the JRE (e.g. 1.6.0_03) are installed on the same desktop.
This behaviour is explained in more detail in Note 290807.1 in Appendix A. Since this behaviour is hardcoded into Firefox, your options are:
1. Configure your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 environment to request a later version of JRE installed on your Firefox-equipped desktops
2. Use IE -- it doesn't enforce static versioning.
3. Contact the Mozilla team and request that they provide a new option to use either static versioning (the status quo) or the latest JRE version installed on the desktop.

ThanksHi,
Tha ABAP stack consists of the Integration Server which in turn contains your Integration Engine and Business Process Engine.
The J2EE stack contains the Adapter Engine and your IR and ID run on the J2EE engine.
Ever wondered how and where the XI pipeline gets executed? It happens in the ABAP stack.
All messsages picked by the Adapter Framework running on the J2EE engine are passed to the Integration Engine, which does the routing. The mapping program again gets executed on the Java stack and the rest of the pipeline servies are executed again on the ABAP stack and so on.
Take a look at the XI overview doc to understand this better,

Mail and iPhoto issues in 8.2
Question is how to fix iPhoto and Mail in 8.2?
Just a little history to start. Reinstalled 8.2 after I had Java issues. Having 2T drive worth of Time Machine means nothing. Erred 3 times ~40min into a 4hr backup from several different selections of Time Machine dates. Gave up and picked and selected backup pieces. Music, iPhotos( 57K), Contacts. Before I could backup the Mail using Time Machine files, it erred with a "ran out of space" error. Seems I left the Time Machine backup "on" selected and it was backing up after I reloaded 8.2, pictures, music, etc. I understand now a "feature" of Time Machine is to clear the oldest backups (Aug 11) for incremental backups unless you have an immense backup (new software) and then it deletes all of the history when it its a space limit. I ran out time to get the mail.
That was the history for the last two days. Yesterday everything worked. Downloaded photos of grandson, sent email, and used Java with the weatherstation. All was well with the world....Today Mail can't find Mail in ~/library/mail starting up. Won't error to send to apple, but makes me quit as below. I have verified Mail is where it belongs as below:
At the same time Mail had problems, so did iPhoto. iPhoto starts to open and crashes. (think I sent 60 crash reports to Apple). Sometimes it opens and I see the event folders then crashes. Most times it crashes as the iPhoto start window begins. Very inconsistant at where it crashes. See the last section for one crash report. Can someone assist? I really don't want to reload 8.2 again (last resort). 8.0 version ran very well and I liked it better than Snow Leopard and Lion.

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I am sorry you were experiencing those issues with your application builder. Although you are using LabVIEW 8.2 (upgraded from 8.0.1), you should not be getting those errors, especially since you were able to successfully build applications in 8.0.1. It would be very helpful if you could drill down which vi (LabVIEW vi) is causing you to change these options. With this information, I can dig a little bit deeper to see if there has been a change in the function from 8.0.1 to 8.2. Please let me know what you find.
Best Regards,
