OS X Lion - Downloads end prematurely (3-10k usually)

Recently, every time I try and download a file, of virtually any size, the download will start and stop immediately, only grabbing several kilobytes of data before terminating. I'm using Google Chrome, but this also occurs in Safari as well. If I keep trying, I can sometimes get the download to actually start and complete normally.
I've tried fixing the permissions on the disc, but that didn't do anything. I'm using Lion on a 2009 Mac Mini. Any ideas?

Ah, well, being paid to do the real beta testing and waiting so vendors can see the real final code! Those are the real "dot zero" adopters you speak of that know that everything at the last minute was changed and all their toil and hard work went to naught as they finally look - more than a few do rought outline and tests knowing though that they need to have bird in the hand to really test XYZ.
Users that plunge in of course can take one small extra step to protect them from their own folly and clone their system and setup a dual boot setup to run Lion and test ML.
I've been using Windows 8 now for over 9 months and I know some of what to expect, as do millions of others, and that the new RP really did make a lot of (serious) changes under the hood. I am shocked at what I thought was an abberition with 10.3, oh no, 10.4.0 also? and even 10.5.0 but wait, they learned and shipped 10.7.0 so it wouldn't brick a Boot Camp parition with Lion Recovery? No? really never tested for that scenerio or what would happen to Vista and XP owners ?
Yes, most user errors can be minimized and almost but not entirely avoided with some backup plans and strategy and of course cloning the system.
When I installed 8 it could even "undo" and revert back to what was there before if I wanted, in place.
I do these things just to know what is hype and what is window dressing and to get ideas. At work we use to keep a small mainframe just for testing a parallel production system if possible and to run multiple opeating systems under MVS.
What Parallels did for Snow Leopard was nice, but I would liike to see SL have run Lion in full hardware VT mode or totally sandboxed.
I dread the first two weeks of forum chatter when the oohs and ahhs and head scratching hit.

  • Why are long downloads ending prematurely?

I just tried twice to download OpenOffice 3.4 on a dial-up connection. The file is supposed to be 145MB (only practical as an overnight download, to be sure). The first time, it stopped at 655KB. The second time, I tried it from a different mirror site. This time it stopped at 29.3MB. Both times it had said the download would be 145MB, yet both times it appeared to think the download had completed far short of that. What the heck is happening?

A couple of nights ago I tried downloading a 69.7MB Java update from Oracle. I've upgraded to Firefox 13 and tried it with antivirus real-time protection turned on. The whole thing came through. Then I decided to upgrade Java to version 7 instead of just patching version 6. I downloaded the 87.9MB update to do that, and again got the whole file.
It's looking like there's a bug in Firefox 12's download engine that's been fixed in version 13. I may try it with a bigger file to make sure.

  • HT203167 Download ends prematurely

What do you do when your download shows complete before the song has finished ?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

    Hi There,
could need a bit of insight. I am trying to update my XI 3.1 installl with SP2.3. SP2 installed ok but installing FP1, 2, or 3 fails with the error message in the subject line.
Sometimes the install does not even start. After running the exe it unpacks everything and then the Language selection pops up and after that nothing more.
Any idea how I can get that to work? I had no issues with the CR FPs.
    Thanks,
    Stephan

  • Slideshows ends prematurely in the middle of a transition?

I have eight slides in a project so far and for some reason the slideshow ends prematurely in the middle of the transition from the sixth slide. any ideas? TIA jim

    Hi larryjo:
You need to highlight the clip by clicking on it, then go to Edit / Split Video Clip. You will see a line where the clip has been split.
Then drag your transition to that split line. It will work then.

  • Why Tempro 3.3.3 "Installation ended prematurely because of an error"?

    hello forum,
i have a Satellite L500-1XD running windows 7 64 bit. i _had_ tempro 3.0 preinstalled from when i first bought the satellite in mar '10. for months, i ignored tempro's demands to update to tempro 3.3.3; until today. so, i downloaded it from [here|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/tempro/ToshibaW7TEMPRO.zip|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/TEMPRO_W7_RELEASE/].
when i ran the TEMPRO_3.3.3.exe file, i got the "Welcome to Toshiba TEMPRO Installation Wizard" window as expected. but then when i clicked the "Next" button, all i got was a "Fatal error" dialog that said "Installation ended prematurely because of an error".
I searched this forum for a solution and i found [this thread|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=167329|Satellite P100 fails to instal TEMPRO 2.0.3] that advised the original poster to uninstall the previous version. so, that's what *i* did. i uninstalled the working version 3.0 of Tempro that came preinstalled. but when i tried to install 3.3.3 again, i got the same "Installation ended prematurely because of an error"! now, i don't have tempro at all!
please, can anybody help with advice on what to do to get this thing successfully installed? i found a related entry in the windows 7 event viewer (see below) if that's of any use.
thanks in advance for your help.

  • Primavera p6 professional R8.2 setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error.

i want to install primavera p6 professional R8.2 in my machine after selecting standalone option i am getting following error.
"Primavera p6 professional R8.2 setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error.your system has not been modified"
can any one help on this.

    Hi,
If the typical option is allowing the application to install, then i'd suggest just adding the database side of it manually.
The client application for PPM and EPPM in P6r8.2 and 8.3 is the same application (P6 Professional) and is 'smart' enough to enable/disable features depending on if it detects a PPM or EPPM database.
There should be an Oracle XE installation file in the download that you can install (personally I prefer SQL Server Express but you will need to enable Named Pipes and TCP/IP after it is installed).
I would recommend installing one of these, creating the database manually and then configure the install you have that is pointing to your EPPM database to also point to the PPM database you create after installing OracleXE/SQL Server Express.
    Regards
    Alex

  • Cd ends prematurely

Sometimes a CD will end prematurely on my ipod touch.  It seems the time counter thinks it is further along than it should be, so it reaches 0.00 before the true end of the CD and cuts it off.  If I go back and play the last few minutes of the CD it cues up properly and plays to the end.  How do I prevent the premature cut off from occurring?  I've down loaded the CD's into my computer and into iTunes then onto my ipod.

    Hey cmir,
I found the following resource that may provide more information:
Songs in iTunes may not play back completely
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4357
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
    - Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
    - Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
    - Download your previously purchased song from this list.
Once you have redownloaded the music, you'll want to replace what is on your device with the new music. I would advise you to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPod touch).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your device, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How many machines can I install on with one Mountain Lion download?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I have both an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  Do I have to buy two Mountain Lion downloads - one for each, or can I somehow download twice after paying once?
    Judy

Actually, having made the same claim a couple of days ago and being proven completely wrong, I have a certain responsibility to correct you by mentioning that there is no limit to how many machines ML can be installed on, as long as you own or control those machines.
    See section 2B(i): http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf

  • When I migrated the contents of my iMac to my new MacBook Pro (both running Lion), I ended up with duplicate icons in the launchpad. How do I get rid of them?

When I used migration Assistant to transfer stuff from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, both running the latest update of Lion, I ended up with duplicate icons in the Launchpad. How do I correct this situation. Some can be deleted using the iPad method of holding down an icon until they all jiggle and then clicking the "X" to delete. However, most do not have x's appear next to them. Otherwise, the migration seemed to go okay.

Launchpad will display an icon for each copy of an application that is currently installed (as well as any aliases to those applications), so you will see more than one icon for an application if you have more than one version of the application installed or aliased. So did you create any aliases of these apps on your old computer? If so, delete them.

  • I accidentally dragged the Lion download from the dock onto my desktop and it disappeared in a puff. This seems to have halted the download as it is now 8 hours since purchase and stuck at 1.75gigs. Help anyone - please?

The icon in the dock is NOT the file itself.  You simply removed the dock icon.  Go into your Applications folder and you'll find "Install Mac OSX..." and you have what you want.

  • Mountain Lion download problems with Lion 10.7.5 (no VirusBarrier issue)

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro. From the factory it came with Snow Leopard but has since been upgraded to Lion OS X 10.7.5. I do not have VirusBarrier, I am writing from a recently clean-installed Lion.
I have now been troubleshooting my Mac for several days. When I wrote first, I had an issue with Safari having been damaged and so I wasn't able to reinstall Lion - but after a certain extremely helpful community member I finally succeeded in installing Lion.
But the issues with the App Store still persist. All my Mountain Lion downloads fail, getting the error message "can't verify, might be corrupted" what many here have also been getting. However, most solutions were related to VirusBarrier (which I don't have), or /var/folders errors (Console does not show any var-related errors).
So if it's not a var-related issue, or related to firewalls or virus softwares (I have disabled the Firewall and I have no virus software installed), what could it be?
When the download and install of ML failed last time, Console showed the following messages:
    11/30/12 11:54:44.617 AM com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right 'system.install.app-store-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [235] for authorization created by '/System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app' [567]

...and a bit later, upon re-starting the download:

    Problem elimination:
    * I don't think this is a router-related issue: I have downloaded and installed other softwares outside App Store successfully
    * As said, I don't think this has anything to do with Firewall or Virus settings
    * Nor has this anything to do with /var/folders as far as I can tell
    What I've tried so far:
    * Repaired disk permissions several times
    * Rebooted
    * Restarted App Store
    * Following one advise found on the net, I deleted preflight.pfpkg just in case
    * All the time I have made sure my OS has the most recent Software Updates installed (most of them downloaded successfully, while with Safari and OS 10.7.5. I had to try several times before they were downloaded succesfully)
I just reinstalled my OS X Lion, only to use it to jump on to Mountain Lion - so I am pending my migration until ML is installed. I would like to fix this soon, since I'd like to get the migration done and my real work started. I would really appreciate your help.
I'm not very adept at using Console or Terminal to troubleshoot, so if someone could guide me through the problem identification, that would be great. Unless someone already knows exactly what's going wrong and can show me a working solution - that'd save my day!
    Thanks!

In cases like this, if you have an Apple store near by, they will most likely install the OS free of charge for you, if you can't bring your Apple ID along to prove you've paid for it.
Would that work out for you?

  • How do I do a clean install from Lion download

how do I do a clean install from Lion download ?
My old tower will only stretch to Lion which I have had to download and installed it following the instructions.
My local Applestore genius has told me to do a clean install but I don't have or can't find a copy of the Lion osX to use.
    Applegadge

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you are already using OS X Lion, use OS X Recovery to reinstall OS X and erase the disk. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    Follow these steps:
    1. Make a backup of the data you don't want to lose after erasing the hard disk.
    2. Start your computer holding Command and R keys to start in OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
    3. Choose "Macintosh HD" or the OS X partition in the sidebar, go to the Erase tab and erase the disk.
    4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X

New Macs come with iLife. However, if you did a clean install you're not going to have iLife.
However, the original install disk that came with your Mac should have an iLife installer included.
