Thank you

  • I own a late 2009 Macbook Pro, and it keeps freezing after OSX Lion installation.

I own a late 2009 Macbook Pro, and it keeps freezing after OSX Lion installation.  I will post my computer's 'specs' below.  I installed Lion, from Snow Leopard, through the App store.  The first week, it worked like a dream, and was loving my brand new computer, or so it seemed.  I then began to run into problems, and I can't confirm this 100%, but I believe it was after I updated from 10.7.1, to 10.7.2.
The freezes are sporatic at best, and cannot be narrowed down to one app.  I googled the issue about two weeks ago, and found a fix involving a temporary log-in, verifying the disk, restarting the computer holding CMD+R, and repairing the disk from there.  That fixed the problem.  For about three or four days.  From there I brought my laptop to Best Buy, where I purchased the computer (start the groans, my dad wanted the accidental damage, and he was paying, there was no argument).  My warranty there was still good, but all they were offering was to check my hard-drive, and possibly ship it out.  That would not be good for me, as I am a High School student, who works online.
So I then decided to go to the Apple store, see what they said.  They said a bunch of people had this problem, it would cost a lot to fix, as I would need a new Logic Board.  This did not make any sense to me, as I knew it was Lion's fault, so why would they not make the L-2009MBP Logic Board compatible, and why are only a few people having this problem, well a lot more than a few, but I mean not everyone.
So I asked a friend about it, and we decided to run a back up, and erase the computer, and re-install Lion.  Figuring maybe my data was corrupted during install.  This helped for a day or two, and happened again.  So this time, we backed up only files (music, pics, documents, etc.,) and did a fresh install.  I got my computer back last night.  Now, I am not saying that didn't help.  Previously I would have frozen about 18 times well writing this, but I have not frozen once (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself).  I have gone from about one freeze every 10-15 minutes (sometimes worse), to about one every 1-3 hours.  Which, let's be honest is still a lot.
So, before I just decide to go and revert to Snow Leopard on my merry way, I ask, do any of you have any other ideas?  Or guarenteed fixes?  I know a guarentee is a hard thing to ask for, but I am desperate, my teachers are getting angry with me for not sending work, and I know this would help a lot of people.  Thank you to those who read through my whole spiel, and thank you to those who will help me!
[Ps, while I am somewhat of a noob, I know my way around a computer, so any help, or knowledge you could bestow upon me is awesome.  Especially DIY fixes.  (if your only advice is, don't buy a mac at Best Buy, don't bother commenting)]

Once it is downloaded you need to restart the computer if it does not restart automatically. When it next starts up you should note a progress bar appearing below the Apple logo. When done the computer will restart once more. The new firmware should now be installed.

My Mountain Lion installation was interrupted.  Now, when I try to download, it won't do it.  After clicking "Download" it pauses for a moment, and then nothing happens.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • OS X Lion installer not starting correctly

    Hi,
I have a Late 2007 MacBook (2GB RAM, 2.20 GHz Core 2), and the Lion installer isn't running right.  I have OS X 10.6.8 so that is fine, but the odd thing is that whenever I try to run the installer, the dock expands to make room for the new app, but then shrinks again, and I get no error telling me that the program closed accidentally.  What is going on?
    Any help would be appreciated!

Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing before installing Lion.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs.
Make sure your Mac can run Lion >  OS X Lion - Technical Specifications

  • What are "dyld" and "brtool" and why are they breaking my Lion installation?

I have an up-to-date Snow Leopard Server installation with software RAID, and cannot complete the upgrade to Lion Server. At the "restart" step, the installation throws an error and says to try again.

Any suggestions (besides "wipe the drives and don't use RAID")?

    Dear Friends
I'm getting this same error ("... dependent dylib #1 could not be loaded") on a 2x3GHz quad-core Mac Pro with 17GB of memory. I'm installing on top of 10.6.8 on a two-drive, two-slice Apple software RAID.
I'm downloading the Lion installer for the third time today and will try for the umpteenth time to install it. I've used another internal drive, a bootable DVD, and a USB flash drive, all to no avail.
If anyone knows a solution that doesn't involve erasing my drives, I'd appreciate your sharing it.
(Before I had a kid I would've installed Lion the day it was released. But now I'm short on time and waited more than six months after its release before trying to install it on our production Mac so I wouldn't encounter such problems. Hehe. I installed Lion on the day of its release on our MacBook Pro and didn't have any problems.)

  • Mini calendar in mail missing after Lion installation

mini calendar in mail missing after Lion installation

    >After installing Lion (intel I-Mac 2g ram). My Microsoft Office 2004 no longer runs.
Upgrade to a Universal compatible version of Office or equivalent.  http://www.neooffice.org/ is the least expensive alternative, though importing Entourage into iCal, Mac OS X Mail, and Addressbook works best if the data was exported from Entourage while still in Snow Leopard.
    >Also, when I select "printer friendly" pages in Safari or Firefox, I get a "missing plugin" message.
When you upgraded, did you make sure that Safari was installed in the Applications folder?  If not, you may have to redownload Safari from http://www.apple.com/safari/ as it happens to be the same version.  Firefox double check is already Lion compatible.  For more on upgrading to Lion, see my FAQ*:

  • Has anyone encounter a Grey Screen with spinning wheel stuck (frozen waited more than 5h) in after running Lion Installer from SL?

    Hi
I've tried almost everything on my Macbook Pro 8,2 (i7 2.0Ghz).
    Wipe/Erase the SL partition.
Burned the ESD dmg to a DVD.
Reset SMC,PRAM and NVRAM many times.
    Run Repair Disk. Passed OK.
    Run Hardware Test. Passed OK.
Download the Lion Installer 4 times. MD5 Passed.
Everytime I've tried to install lion it give me this Grey screen... The mouse wheel start spinning and it then stops, and nothing happens from that point. (Also rebooted many, many times same result).
SL Install disk runs fine, even installing it from Zero. I've setted up time machine. (The restore to definetly works also the SL installation too)
I'm a little far away to send my Macbook to a customer service.
    What else should I try?

    Thank you very much William
I ran the installer and saw the same screen stuck... After I used Shift to boot in safe mode, I got the 3 beeps with grey screen apple logo. So then I rebooted into Single User do the 'nvram boot-args="-x -v"' and voila the installer continued with no issues I've turned back de 'nvram boot-args=""' and everything seems to be working fine.
Really weird beahviour of the installer with my Mac.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes does not start after Lion installation

    hi,
after upgrading to the latest iTunes version and to Lion, I get "The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?".
    Precise:
I upgraded iTunes to the latest version (from the previous one, I am a regular upgrader) yesterday afternoon around 15:00, then I worked several hours on my iTunes library (including some new buys). At night I then installed Lions. After starting Lions, iTunes does not start anymore.
I have read the threads about copying old library files from the "previous iTunes Libraries" folder. But if I do that, I will loose the entire afternoon work. Anyway it I cannot understand why iTunes now believes to be older after Lion installation than before...
    Can somebody please help?

    Hi,
after backing up, I downloaded the latest version again and it really worked.
Strange that evidently the Lion installation did revert yesterdays upgrade from iTunes. Now it works, including all my latest changes from yesterday.
    Case solved:)

  • I need to re-install Lion, where do I re-download the Lion installer?

I had a HD issue (my MacBook Pro, Model A1211 would not boot) and I did not have a Lion Recovery Disk, so I had to erase the HD and load Snow Leopard. Now where do I find the Lion installer and download it?

  • CS4 doesn't work after LION installation

After the Lion installation i had several problems.
One of these is that the cs4 doesn't work.
i open illustrator or photoshop and they crash every time. "photoshop not responding" "illustrator not responding" and so on..
I had to reinstall all the suite that now works.
    The question is... why??
I thought is is better to format the mac... should i do ?
    thanks

    Another problem is:
When I start the Dropbox Application, it uses nearly 90% of the CPU as well, so the mac heats up, in a way that it is not possible to use the dropbox application...
(The Icon of the VLC Media Player  only jumps up and down in the dock, and nothing else happens)

  • Can't boot Mountain Lion installer on a machine that already has Mavericks installed

I have upgraded my Mac mini 2012 to Mavericks, and everything is running quite well.  However, I need to also run Mountain Lion (a piece of hardware I need to use is not Mavericks compatible.)
I am attempting to install Mountain Lion on a 2nd partition on my Mini's internal hard drive by following the following steps:
    * used Disk Utility to repartition my mini's internal drive, creating a 100 GB partition to install Mountain Lion on
    * used DiskMakerX to create a Mountain Lion bootable USB key
    * rebooted machine while holding down Option
At this point the boot menu appears and I see icons for both my Mavericks partition, as well as the Mountain Lion installer USB key.  However when I select the USB key and try to boot from it, it does not boot; instead I get a gray screen with the universal "no" symbol (circle with a slash through it) on it.
I tested the USB key on another Mac and it booted fine, so there is nothing wrong with the USB key I made.  So it would seem that the Mountain Lion installer will refuse to run on a computer if it has a newer OS on it, even if the computer has a free partition (or drive) to install on to.
Is there any way around this restriction?

    Hi,
to calm your nerves: on my computer I have CS3 and CS4, and I work with both versions, but of course, I never use them at the same time. First, I had CS3, CS4 I installed later.
All the keyboard short cuts, like yours work free from defects.

  • Mountain Lion installer will not let me choose my Lion Partition as an install location

Mountain Lion installer will not let me choose my Lion Partition as an install location.
    Any ideas why?

Again, why will the Mountain Lion installer not allow me to select my Lion partition as the location for the install?
Good question. That's the main way it's supposed to be installed. You shouldn't even need to choose a partition. You purchase Mountain Lion through the App Store, it downloads to the Applications folder and automatically begins the installation on the drive where Lion or Snow Leopard resides as soon as the download is complete.

  • Lion installation says my hard drive is damaged, now my Mac won't turn on!

Help! I just purchased the new Lion software app and was downloading it to my iMac when out of the blue a message popped up saying that the software could not be installed because my hard drive is damaged and cannot be fixed! I now cannot even turn my computer on. The background stays white and I have the apple logo along with other logos that just randomly pop up.... what happened?? Can anyone help me with this? I know my hard drive is not broken or corrupted! how can I get my Mac to turn back on??

Be sure to do some homework before trying again.  There is plenty of advice on the internet, for example:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1161087/install_lion_over_leopard.html
As gumsie says, it is important atleast to backup your own data, photos, music etc on another disk.  I would get Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) and make a bootable clone of your existing Snow Leopard. Then copy the new Lion installer to this clone as well.  With this, you can keep functional (and ask for help here) while you get the Lion installation working and your apps updated.
