OS X Lion Version 10.7.5 and after new hard drive I have lost iPhoto, iMovie, etc.

I have the OS X Lion version 10.7.5 and after a new hard drive I have lost iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band etc. I have tried the re-install of the OS X Lion and checking the app store under 'purchases' but none of these options were successful.
When I click on iPhoto in the App Store, it says that it cannot update because version 10.9 is required (I tried to transfer iPhoto from my brothers computer but he has a newer laptop which means I cant open it whcih is why it says 'update' but have deleted it now). When I go to iMovie on the App Store, it says I need to pay but the only reason I dont want to do that is that it origionally came on the computer and after paying Apple to install a new hard drive I dont want to have to pay for all the apps that origionally come on it.
Can someone please help

Then you will need the Original System Reinstall DVD discs that came with the system to reinstall the iLife suite of apps then you can update them from the Mac app store or through Software Update.
Those discs came in the box the computer came in. Hopefully you still have the box and those discs.

It has a cross through it in Finder, but I clicked on it and I was directed to download the latest version from the App store, but it is not available in the Australian store. Can anyone please help? I am not an advanced user and I would like my photos back, having had no idea I would lose iPhoto in the upgrade!

Thanks petermac87...but for some reason, the only purchases showing are OS. So assuming iPhoto is in Mountain Lion, I was hoping to look under Hidden Items there as you suggested, but there is no option for that. Only option is to download Mountain Lion again, not iPhoto specifically. Any ideas welcome!

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I had to have my computer reimaged and a new Hard Drive installed - now I cannot sync my apple products - It says that my device is attached to an itunes library already - what to do?

I have recently had to reimage my computer and installed a new hard drive - I had apple deauthorize all of my computers however now that I have installed Itunes everytime I hook up any of my "I" products it says that it cannot sync them because they are already attached to another Itunes LIbrary - The library was the one that was on my computer which had the Hard Drive crash so it does not exist anymore- Any thought on what I need to do? I am about to come unglued with all of this hubub! - Thanks for the help

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just this occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • Owerbook g4 not starting up after new hard drive and software update

    Hello,
I know that there are several postings that are similliar to this query, but none have answered my question.
    I have a Powerbook g4 15 inch 1.67/1.5 Ghz with 1 gig of Ram.
A few months ago I suddenly found myself unable to log into my computer after trying to render an effect on Final Cut.  After going through Disk Utilities and repairing the Hard drive, the computer seemed to work for a day or so, but then ran into the same problem.  This time Disk Utilities found
    Keys out of order
    rebuilding catalog B-tree
I feared the worst and replaced my hard drive with a Seagate PATA 2.5" Internal Notebook Drive.  Installed OS 10.4 and everything seemed dandy until I tried to re-install Final Cut, which would not allow me to install Live Type.  I remembered that there were some updates for livetype and OS X, so I tried updating the OS X dual update, which got about 90% of the way and then the Kernal Panic display told me to restart the computer.  Okay, this time the computer would hang in the gray apple screen for awhile and then the screen would turn blue.  Ran disk utilities off of the start up disk, and ran into the same B-tree problems (I'm guessing the directory is still damaged somehow).
So I erased and installed OS X again, and after that tried updating OS X, and the same thing happened.  Although this time disk utilities says the hard drive is OK.  Tried resetting PMU, fsck, PRAM, and still the blue screen after initial gray apple screen. Tried safe-mode, but it went to a single user "welcome to Darwin" screen and I didn't know what to do after that.
So, should I try to erase and install again, this time running a repair permission before updating software?  ANY other ideas?  It seems like a directory issue, but I don't know what else to do.

So, should I try to erase and install again, this time running a repair permission before updating software?
If you do not have anything on the HDD you need to preserve, that is probably a good idea. Here's how I would proceed:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
    • Select language
    • Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • Click on Options button
    • Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
    • Click OK
    • Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.

  • Having trouble installing and configuring new hard drive

I bought a larger (320GB) Hitachi hard drive for my T61, to replace the 100GB that came with the computer. I had no touble making the physical installation, but can't boot up and use the new drive. I:
--used Acronis software (True Image 11 and Disk Director) to partition the new drive. The new partitions are proportionately larger than on the old drive.
--copied files from my original HD to the new one.
--tried, unsuccessfully, to boot up from the new drive.
--tried Thinkvantage software, but it wouldn't (1) recognize any external drives (USB HDD or my backup drive, also an external); (2) let me change the order of my boot devices (I get a synbtax-challenged message: "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode...[C]onsult your system supervisor." Well, *I'm* the "system supervisor," and I still can't get the program to let me edit the boot order).
I have tried to boot the new drive from original OS software (XP Pro), with no success. Same deal with Acronis's emergency book disk. At the moment, I'm letting Thinkvantage reformat and (maybe) reinstall everything that was originally on the factory computer. Whether it'll actually do this on a new and larger hard drive, I guess I'll eventually find out. If it works, I'll then try to restore my real files with Acronis.
Has anybody else had to deal with this exciting sequence of events?
    --Fred Powledge

Lets start afresh. First do you want an XP or Vista system on your new hard drive? Do you know if the recovery disks you got with your system are for the operating system you want on the new drive?
If you bought a Vista machine with XP downgrade Vista will be preinstalled on the system and it gets delivered with XP recovery disks. The opposite can also be true the machine is delivered with XP installed and with Vista recovery disks. Iin both cases if you want to upgrade to a new hard disk on the preinstalled operating system you must first yourself burn recovery disks for the preinstalled system. Start -- All programs -- Thinkvantage -- Create Product Recovery Media, first disk must be CD the last two can be DVDs.
When you are sure you have the right set of recovery disks XP or Vista, boot from them and let them format the disk. They will automatically install the service partition and use all the remaining space of the new hard drive for the C partition. When I think about it even for Vista on the T61 there will be only two partitions C: and a hidden partition for the RnR service partition. The S and Q partitions only apply to the new T400/500 -- I should not have mentioned them.
If its the recovery disks that were delivered with the machine that are the right one for the op sys you want on the new hard drive and they dont produce a bootable system -- call Lenovo support and get new ones.
The details for Acronis I can't help you with -- I used my Windows home server backup when I restored my C: partitions on the new hard drives both on my T500 and my T42. Just be careful you dont mix up which is the old and new C: partition so you dont destroy the C. partition on the old hard disk by mistake. But as long as you don't point Acronis to the old hard disk the worst that can happen is you have to rerun the restore to factory settings on the new drive once more.
    T500: Vista 32, 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 15.4" 1680x1050, 500GB 7200rpm, ATI Radeon HD3650 + Intel 4500MHD. T42: XP, 1.7GHz, 2GB RAM, 14.1" 1024x768, 250GB PATA, ATI Radeon 7500.

  • Cannot get into iTunes and app store on my mac after new hard drive instillation

i had a new hard drive put into my mac recently, and since then i have not been able to access the app store or iTunes on my mac, which will also not allow me to sync my phone to it anymore as it is now not authorized to do such. I have contacted apple support, reinstalled the OS, and have enabled 2 step verification to verify my mac as a device, yet still will not work, is there any other way to fix this?

  • Ipod mini and a new hard drive

My old hard drive completely died, and I've had to put a new one in to my computer. I got most of my word documents on to a ZIP disk, but one of the things I was not able to save was my MP3 files. I had a bunch of mp3 files burned from my CDs, as well as a bunch downloaded from itunes and various other sources. They are all still on my ipod mini, but nowhere else. Is there any way that I can get those mp3 files off of my ipod mini and on to my new hard drive? If not, what will happen when I try to update my ipod mini with new mp3s that are on my new hard drive?
Please advise. I am very scared that I have lost my entire music collection.

  • Importing Home Folder after new hard drive and Lion Update

    (Okay, long title.)
Had to replace my hard drive. Was running Tiger.
Backed up my entire Home Folder only, on an external harddrive, before it failed completely.
Hard drive replaced, and then loaded Snow Leopard, updated to latest version, 10.6.8.
    Ready now to get Lion.
    Questions:
    - After I install Lion do I simply use the "Transfer Information to This Mac" feature to bring in my Home folder?
    - What about the apps that are duplicated, such as Mail, Safari, iCal, etc. Will that be taken care of on its own?
    - What about the iLife apps, GarageBand, iPhoto, etc.? Will I be able to update those to the latest versions?
    Thank you.

If the username and password combo is identical, then you'll need to unhide the new hidden user's Library folder, then open both home folders and transfer you're stuff. Do note that you might get you can't do that messages. For those items, move the new ones into a newly created Desktop folder, and then you should be able to copy the Tiger ones. Once done, restart so the copied stuff is put into RAM and is available for your other steps, such as reinstalling the apps.

  • Blinking folder with question mark and a new hard drive: also installing Mountain Lion and 0 with a line through it appears please help?

Okay so my harddrive failed in my 13" Macbook I used to have a WD scorpio black 250 gb for a while. I upgraded to a WD scorpio black 500 gb 7500 rpm hard drive. Okay so I installed the harddrive and ran my friends startup disc to learn that grey face discs are specific to that computer. The start up disc ran fine (minus the error stating it could not install OSX because its specific to another computer) and I looked in disc utility after installing the new harddrive and it said verified. I lost my startup disc and did not have another one. Using a friends mac I created a bootable USB drive with mountain lion on it, I plug it in and it comes up and when I choose to start up on the harddrive a 0 with a line going throguh it appears. If I do not start up with the USB or my friends startup disc then a blinking folder with a question mark appears. So my question is what could the problem be if a startup disc runs on a new WD harddrive and says under disc utility that its verified but the 0 with a line through it appears after I try to boot it with a flash drive containing mountain lion? WHats the issue here im completely lost now

Sounds like some sort of power issue and now your drive is not working.
You'll have to take this to Apple for repair.
You should read this if you don't have recent backups of your data off the machine.

  • My computer just had to get a new hard drive and we reloading info onto the new hard drive...my iphoto pics are all, there save about 8, but there are NO thumbnails. I tried rebuilding the thumbnails...nothing. I tried creating a new library...nothing.

I have recently had to purchase a new battery and hard drive. Because it wouldn't back up completely, I was able to recover most information, but it looked a bit different or I have found items in different places. One thing that is happening is in iphoto. All my pics are there, but there are NO thumbnails visible. I have tried rebuilding the thumbnails...nothing. I have tried creating a new library...no info even transferred. Any suggestions?

    What version of iPhoto?
Can you view the pics at full size?

  • Need help to partition and format new hard drive for T400

The HDD failed in my T400. I bought a new 1TB HDD and fitted it. The diagnostic software in the BIOS did a read and controller test (Passed). When I put the Windows XP disk in the CD reader, the setup started - then stalled at the "Windows setup" page. I thought the hard drive had a write problem but apparently it must be partitioned and formatted first, before Widows setup can commence. The thing is that I can't get to the option where Windows formats the drive. In old computers, there was always a partitioning option in the BIOS setup but in my T400, there doesn't appear to be any such option. The computer has 4GB RAM, the actual model is 2767-RV8.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get this up and running?
One other question is - (assuming I can get the thing working) - Is there somewhere I can load the operating system on part of the hard drive where it can act as a fall back in case the operating system gets corrupted? - i.e. something that can't get attacked by malicious software?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Ian

    Hi irivlin,
If you are trying to clean install XP, then you have to do following setting in BIOS first:
Press F1 to BIOS, Config -> Serial ATA (SATA) -> change to "Compatibility"
You can change XP partition only if you are doing clean installation, otherwise you have to use 3rd party to do it.
For backup part, there are lots of choices in the market. You might consider using XP own backup function. Lenovo got a program called Rescue and Recovery can also do backup as well.

  • Drive Partition causing issues after new hard drive and recovery disks installed

I have an HP Pavilion Media Center PC m7640n running Windows XP Media Center Edition.
My hard drive failed and I had a computer guy install a 1 TB Hard drive as well as additional memory.  I purchased the recovery disks and he installed everything for me.  I have two issues:
    1.  After updating to XP Service Pack 3 and all other Windows recommended upgrades the computer deleted all my drivers and would not "plug and play" install anything.  I had the computer guy back to fix this--he did get all my drivers to work, but when I plug in anything new for the first time (such as my iPad), I have to go into the device manager and manually update the drivers.  The computer doesn't recognize it and automatically prompt me to install it.
    2.  The hard drive partition defaulted to my C drive being very small and my D drive being large.  Since software usually defaults to the C drive for installation, I quickly ran out of space.  I had the computer guy back and he programmed something so that everything now defaults to the D drive.  Unfortunately all my program files (including Microsoft Office) are still on my C drive including everything I put on my desktop.  My C drive is now full.
Here is an example:  iTunes shows that it is defaulting to the D drive for anything I load into it.  Yet I tried to download the new operating system for my iPad and it said my hard drive was full.  When I did a file search to see what files had changed in the last week, it shows iTunes on my C drive (and my D drive).  Yet all the files that were "changed" due to my upgrade were defaulting to the C drive, even though in the setting in iTunes it shows it should be saving to the D drive.
    D:\Documents and Settings\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Is there an easy way to fix these issues?  I've already spent more than I anticipated when I chose to rebuild this computer vs buying a new one.  Now I'm regretting the decision and I'd like to try and fix this myself and not pay my computer guy to come back at $90/hour.
    Thanks!

Here are the original specs of your computer. The specs state that the original hard drive was 320GB. You have since replaced the factory drive with a 1TB (1000GB) hard drive. The HP recovery routine seems to have issues with hard drives that deviate from the original size. The partition issues you are experiencing may be a result of this. As for the rest of your issues, it sounds like the SP3 install went bad.
If I were you, I would consider reinstalling the OS using your recovery discs by doing a complete "destructive" reinstall/recovery. Afterward, I would post the size of both the c: and d: partitions... and go from there.

  • How to get music off ipod touch 5 and onto new hard drive

    Help.
My PC crashed. I have an itunes acct. I was able to back up most music to external hard drive - except that which was more recently purchased by son through his ipod touch 5 (that he got for Christmas.)
I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive...
I have a new laptop. Itunes is not yet installed on it.
I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs...
    Is this right?
Or do my libraries still exist?
I would really feel most comfortable if I could just get the songs off of his IPod and into back up before I install ITunes on the new laptop.
I can always re-import the songs back into Itunes, can't I?
I am not too computer savvy - please consider in reply.
    Thanks all!

"I see that ipod touch 5 will not open as an external storage device in order to download and back up songs to external hard drive or flash drive..."
Correct.  The iod touch is not a backup/storage device.
"I am afraid that if I do install the Itunes - then he plugs in his Ipod to sync - he will sync to an empty folder - thus erasing his songs..."
    Also correct.
"Or do my libraries still exist?"
Your library will only be where you put them.  You shoudl always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer.
Copy everything from the backup copy to your new computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  Without syncing - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
