OS X Lion.  video flicker/scramble

OS X Lion. When dragging a file from Downloads folder to desktop I acquire a sudden video flicker/scramble on my display

Ahh, I'd forgotten about that feature since it is not really that easy to find and I always use MPEG Streamclip which does an outstanding job. However, I just tried it with a 10 sec intro I had (the only .mov I had available) and it did not work either. I'll be sending in a feedback - may i suggest you do the same.
In the meantime, try MPEG Streamclip - I've used it for a long time.
Here is the (strange) error I got:

We are using adobe production premium cs6, this being used on Mac pro, lion os 10.7.4 with matrox mx02 max card. We facing a Video flicker issue on clips captured using VTR or clips taken as data to adobe premiere? Please advise how we can overcome this flicker issue. We have tried field change and flicker removal on adobe but seems nothing working.

Hi, a few questions that will help us to help you-
    Format/source of video being captured?
How is it coming in (analog, HDMI, etc)?
    Sequence/capture settings?
Where do you see flicker - in Premiere Program window, or on MXO2 video output?

  • Video flicker on Compaq Mini 311c - 1020EO in Win 8 (32bit)

    Hello,
Upgraded my Compaq Mini 311c - 1020EO to Win 8 32bit and all seems to work except VIDEO Flicker intermitantly.
Tried to load Nvidia driver ( 320.00 and 314.22 ) but when I run the installation the drivers cannot id the hardware as being compatible ??
Please help with some ideas !!

    Hello PALaz,
I am  surprised you don't have more issues with Windows 8 working correctly on your machine, since it is an older machine.  Have you tried to install the driver in compatibility mode?
Visit HP Support and get the Windows 7 drivers for the hardware you'd like to try.
Download the driver to your desktop (your driver is here)
Allow the extraction to complete but close the installation process when it comes up.
Navigate to the C:\swsetup\ folder.  You will see your driver listed here.  They usually have a name like "sp56737".  Navigate to this folder.
Within your driver's folder you will see a "setup.exe" file.  Right click this file and select Properties.
    Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
Click the box that says "Run this program in Compatibility mode for..." and also select Windows 7 from the drop down menu.
Check the box which says "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom
Save these changes and double-click the "setup.exe" to begin the install.
Once the install completes reboot your PC and verify the functionality of the piece of hardware.
Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!

Look in Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and see if you have any runaway processes using a lot of %CPU.
I would also strongly recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. If it reports errors you can Google them or post them here.

  • Where do I find the interactive "Getting Started with Lion" video?

    Hello from England.
Please be nice to me and talk in a language an OAP might understand.
I recently installed Lion on my MaBook.  I did this in my lunch hour at work and took a tad longer than I anticipated.  Anyway, after the shut down and re-start up popped an interactive "getting started with Lion" video which showed you all of the new touch gestures etc.
Anyway - as ym lunch hour was running out I closed my MacBook with the intention of watching this video later so I could learn all of the exciting and clever things.
Yes, you guessed it, throughout the day whilst I was busy, busy, busy working, not on a my mac ,but on my office PC (uk) the battery ran flat and I had to plug in and re-start again at home.
Did the "getting started on Lion" video pop up again?  No.  And for the life of me I can't find it anywhere.  Not even trustworthy YouTube.
Can anybody tell me how I make this appear again pretty please?
First to reply gets a Scone and a Cup of Tea.
    Thank you

  • Video thumbnails scrambled, won't playback (v3.4.3)

My video thumbnails in Aperture (version 3.4.3) are scrambled. Sometimes I can see part of a reference thumbnail frame (often in monochrome or with a single color overlay, like green), sometimes it's just all snow.
    1) I just restored my mac mini from a time machine backup.
    2) I also just imported an iPhoto library
If I browse to a pre-existing (before Time Machine restore) Aperture project, the correct thumbnail appears briefly before changing to the scrambled version.
When I select the video for playback all I get is a blank Viewer window (not video content, no controls, no playback).
If I browse to the source file via finder the video thumbnail displays and the video plays back correctly.
    I have tried:
    1) verifying and repairing disk permissions
    2) repairing Aperture permissions
    3) repairing the Aperture database
    4) rebuilding the Aperture database
    5) regenerating thumbnails (select video Photos->Regenerate Thumbnails) (thumbnail changes, still scrambled)
I don't use Aperture often so I'm not 100% sure when this started, but it seems to be after this current restore as supported by the brief correct appearance of old video thumbnails before they update to the scrambled version.
    OS X 10.8.2
    Aperture 3.4.3
    Example of affected video:
    IMG_0002.MOV
    QuickTime movie
    5MB
    640x480
    Duration: 00:11
    Capture Source: iPhone 3GS

I suggest to check the video codecs you have installled; if you use Perian or have a flip-camera, you may have an incompatible video codec installed, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4155
Why was a TimeMachine restore necessary? And did you use any helper/uninstaller/cleaner utilities, before you made the backup or after restoring? Sometimes this kind of helpers remove too much. I  this case you may need to reinstall Mt. Lion to restore missing system components, that are not included in your TimeMachine backup.
Have a look at this thread Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion,
and also at the post: Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion in the same thread.
To reinstall from the "Recovery partition" see Linc Davis's post here: Re: Garageband doesn't open in Mac Mini mid 2011

  • Video Flicker & Creation of SD DVD (16:9) from a HDV edit...

    Hi Everyone,
We have just completed a project on HDV.
Shot on HDV using Sony FX1E
    HDV Edit using FCP HD
Video Card is Declink HD Extreme.
    Problem 1:
    Flicker while we render video:
When we render the timeline, the rendered output some times has a flicker that appears. It happens to everything, video, background animation done using motion anything you name. Then if we re-render the same, it goes off next time itself or sometime later. Not quite sure when and why ? We have to check to ensure no flickering is there before we step into the next stage.
The only problem that i could think of is. We have only 1 harddisk in the system. So the OS is in the same drive in which the project is also getting executed.
    Problem 2:
Creation of SD DVD (16:9) after finishing HDV edit.
Compressor, the **** product is a royal waste or is that we do not know how to use it. or should we be using something else to make a SD DVD from a HDV edit.
We completed the project by taking a Uncompressed movie output and taking it into another Matrox sytem and created a SD DVD using Adobe Encore DVD. So the job got over, but what is the way to do the same in FCP & DVD Studio PRO.
Making a HD DVD is perfect, we tried that and it worked well.
We look forward to the comments from all you experts.
    Thanks in advance.

Power MAC G5   Mac OS X (10.4)   Decklink HD Extreme - Video Card

One of the interesting and clever things about OSX is that data is not necessarily written to disk when you think it is - it first goes into a buffer and the buffer is written to disk at times of the OS's choosing. This allows the OS to handle multiple tasks etc. 'at the same time' - it stores things up and then milliseconds or perhaps seconds later writes them to disk. Remember that this includes all processes - and when OSX is running there might easily be literally hundreds of separate little OS-level programs running, all needing to do this or that with files on disk, not just the programmes you think you have running, like FCP or Safari.
The net result of this is that you have no control over when the disk is needed by the OS - and although this isn't a problem normally if you're using Safari or Word or something, when you are handling streaming media like video, it can be a very big problem. If you are playing a piece of video (which must maintain a constant data rate) and the system absolutely HAS to do something to or from disk, your video playback can take a hit, skipping a few frames. If this happened on a long playout to client it would be uncomfortable, but if it happened on your delivery master it could be horrendous.
If you keep your media on a separate disk, the problem disappears, as OSX can do whatever it needs without interrupting the flow of video off the other drive.
So don't so it, it's just waiting to bite you in the a55.

  • After updating to PP CC 7.2.1 exported video badly scrambled

I have had no issue exporting a 7 minute film using the Vimeo 1080 codec on PP CC Version 7.0.
I recently updated to the latest, 7.2.1.   I then exported the same exact timeilne, using the same exact Vimeo Codec.  After serveral attempts,  the last 3 minutes of the exported video are badly scrambled.  No audio issue, just video.
I then tried media exporting * Only the troublesome spot from minute 6 to minute 7.   This clip exported perfectly.   This problem only seems to happen when I media export the full 7 minute sequence.
Please find attached images for reference.

    Hi Mark,
I'd be glad to provide you with my settings but I think the main issue here is that I had no encoding problems whatsoever with the exact same timeline and encoding settings in version 7.    I literally just updated via Creative Cloud and re-opened my existing project.
In any case,  please find screengrab for my settings.   I use the Arri timeline as indidcated by tech support back in version CS5.5 and moving forward.  I have also tried the DSLR sequence; same result
Checking max render and previews on/off makes no difference.
The film is scrambled consistently from frame # 8112 to the end of the film.   I tried encoding on two different computers; same result.
If there was an issue with my settings or clips, I would not have gotten great results with the 7.0 encoder.

  • Late 2013 MacBook Pro Yosemite Video Flicker

I have three of the same computer and have only noticed this problem on one of them, the screen seems to flicker black during normal operations. I am not moving the unit at all, the screen lid is staying open, so I do not think it is the video cable to the screen by any means. It's just a very quick black flash that is unusual.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, video from 7D shows as unsupported video format

Video from my Canon 7D that used to work fine in Aperture now is showing as unsupported video format can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a Lion, Aperture, or Canon issue?

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

  • Interlaced video flicker question

    Hi,
I recently worked on a DVD project using the complete Final Cut Studio and authored using DVD SP 4. There was a problem with the finished video that I could never quite clear up. I shoot using MiniDV and edit on Final Cut, then encode my video using Quicktime Pro. Well, my finished disc looked amazing. However, I noticed when I moved my camera if the subject was wearing red (or any red in the picture for that matter) there would be some interlaced flicker around the edges of the red color (it also occured around the edge of a few other colors, but mainly red and only when my camera moved). I'm just curious if anyone has encountered this and if they can offer any help to correct it.
Should I have my FCP timeline set for progressive scan? Is there a way to set a SD NTSC video project to progressive scan?
    Thanks, Jason

Sounds more like a colour saturation issue... reds are very prone to 'bleeding' around the edges...
You should use the vectorscope in FCP to check all your colour levels are safe. Red is especially problematic.

  • Why does My video flicker grey after I insert a pic in a transition

Simple as my question title. Can't figure out why my video flickers grey after I insert a pic into a transition. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I actually found out its an issue that alot of folks are having and it has nothing to do with the "pic in transition thing I was talkin about." Sorry I'm no good with all the technical terms. But it's a gray flicker that appears in the playback, I found a thread that believed it was a graphics card issue or an issue with quicktime?

  • Video flicker from Text

I'm using PE10, and when i use text/animated text the video tends to jump/flicker during the duration of the text.  I thought it might of ironed itself out when turned into a video file or uploaded to Youtube but it doesn't.  This is a new problem.  I've made numerous videos with lots of text/animated text with the same set-up/editor in the past with no problems.

  • OS X Lion Video Encoder Not Working

I don't know what the problem is. I was super excited for the video encoder that came standard with Lion because I have an Apple TV, and I figured it would make converting videos much less of a headache. I apparently thought wrong. I've been very frustrated trying to get it to work. Trying to convert some .avi files I get an error, which says something about not being able to open the source. I can't even get it to come up right now.
I tried to encode a .mp4 file assuming that it would definitely work because, unless I'm thinking wrong, this format is compatible with Macs. This didn't seem to do anything at all except produce a .m4v file that didn't do anything. My assumption was that it was maybe still converting, but there was nothing to indicate that so I deleted that file. Then tried it again, and it did nothing. Then tried again to convert the .avi file so that I could see the error and post it here, but again, it did nothing so I couldn't post the exact error.
Okay so just got the error, and it says:
avconvert: source file not found for source file: (lists file location)
avconvert: failed to create an Export Session.
    Check Setup.
Any help or leads at all would be extremely appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andy
