OS X Lion won't install on my MacBook Pro

My hard drive crashed so I replaced it with a Western Digital 500 gb drive. I formatted the disk through disk utility and then began the process of downloading OS X Lion in internet recovery. I have my laptop on an ethernet cable. The estimated time remaining will say anything from 12-15 hours remaining despite any progress shown on the bar. I left my computer alone for over 40 hours, it was slowly downloading all this time. It had but a half centimeter left of the progress bar when a window popped up saying the additional components could not be downloaded. Why is this happening and what can I do?

I was able to make a bootable installer on a flashdrive for mavericks and it won't install that way either. It says my new hard drive needs to be repaired but disk utility can't repair it so I keep recreating a partition and nothing is working. Please help me

  • ITunes 10.7 won't install on my Macbook Pro which is running OSX Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I've been trying all day to get my iPhone 5 to connect to my iTunes so I can sync my music etc.
First thing, when I connected to my MacBook Pro it says "The iPhone “David's iPhone” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
So I downloaded iTunes 10.7 but when I attempt to install it I get "The installation failed.  The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail."
I am on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.
Can anyone suggest what I might have to do to get this to work?  I've even attempted to download OSX Update 10.8.2 but I get the same installation error.
    Can someone please help!
    Thanks

It could be a transient problem with the network or the server that fixes itself after some time for no apparent reason. It may just work if you try again later.
Also, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

  • OSX Lion cannot be installed on used macbook pro

    Dear all,
I inherited an old used macbook pro (2009 model) from a colleague.  He cleaned it and it was ready to reinstall when I received it.  I purchased a new OSX Lion set to install.  As the macbook is a present for my daughters birthday, I purchased the software on het apple ID.
When installing (after entering the related apple ID) I get the following message:
This product is currently not available. Try again later.
Can I solve this without having to go to an Apple dealer.  My girls birthday is this Friday, and I'd like to have the macbook ready before that date.
    Thanks!

In order to install Lion (which all 2009 MBPs are capable of) you need to have Snow leopard (10.6.8) installed first.  The simplest path is to order this disk from Apple:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Then download the combo update:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then the MBP will be ready for a Lion install.
    Ciao.

Parallel Desktops is telling me I can install Windows via a PC, DVD or image file. Does this mean I cannot install Windows by downloading it.

  • Adobe Flash Player 9 won't install on my Macbook Pro!!!!!!!!!!

I've had a problem with all these flashplayers on my MBP. I took it into Apple and they were able to get Flashplayer 8 (I believe) to finally work. This was quite some while ago. Well, these websites are using flashplayer 9 and I couldn't view them correctly, so I started to install it (the way the directions stated) and it gets hung up w/4 items remaining to install. It taxes my CPU from 90-100% the entire time and it just stays like that until I quit the installation.
I've downloaded the uninstaller and ran it. I re-downloaded the flashplayer and tried installing it again, same thing. Re-did it...same outcome, obviously.
This is driving me insane and now I have no flashplayer whatsoever.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: MacBook Pro 15"
    Machine Model: MacBookPro1,1
    CPU Type: Intel Core Duo
    Number Of Cores: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
    L2 Cache (shared): 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    SMC Version: 1.2f10
    I'm running 10.4.7 as well.

Be sure you are getting the version of Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/public_beta/. Other versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel Macs.
The following may be helpful in learning what may and may not work properly on Intel Macs:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers. These versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel-Macs. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the only current choice is USB Overdrive. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (does not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • The Sims 3 won't install on my macbook pro?

I bought the instant download for The Sims 3 from Orgin today. I had no problem downloading it, but now I cannot get it to install.
I know my specs are okay but here they are just in case:
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
    (mid 2011 model)
I went to check my installer, thinking that was the issue. I verified and then repaired.
What could be the cause of the sims 3 not installing? I have spent the past 6 hours and it wont get past file 3 of 889.

Is it a Mac disk?  If not, it won't work unless you create a Windows partition, and install Windows through Boot Camp or an emulator like Parallels.

  • New hard drive won't install in my macbook pro 13"

    Hi everyone
I have recently been having problems with my mac book where I was constantly seeing the spinning beachball.  I had wiped the hard drive and was still having this problem so took my mac book to a "genius" at my local mac store who told me that the hard drive was faulty.  I was out of warranty so he advised me how to change the hard drive and recommended me to install a crucial 240gb M500 SATA 6Gbps 2.5 SSD.  I have now fit this into my mac book and have done internet recovery to allow me to get to Disk Utility.  My computer recognises the new Hard drive but when I got to erase the disk to enable me to install the operating system it just hangs attempting to unmount the hard drive.  I left it over night and nothing happened.  IS there something I have done wrong or is there another way of me installing the operating system onto the new hard drive?
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Clinton:
off topic: remembering your beautiful 980GB M500, i want to point to two things that I came repeatedly by:
    1. the M500 has more "overprovisioning" than most other Crucial  ssds ( I thought that you might want to hear that.
    2. Lately I hear more and more comments by respectable manufacturers that Trim in Mac OSX should be avoided: the "enabling" softwares are a bit crippled software and there are many timing faults at the file level communications, which are counterproductive.
So I followed the recent comments of a OWC staff member:
"One way to live without TRIM on OSX is just reduce the volume on the drive and leave the unallocated space...unallocated. If you have a 240GB drive I suggest removing 40GB.
The drive will map this into the over provisioning and move the space in and out of use on the volume very quickly...almost faster than TRIM does
Also remember the drives do have garbage collection and will look after themselves if given the chance too".
So I restored the complete original IOAHCIFamily.kext ( by running a Combo Update) on all my SSDs, and with DiskUtility I dragged the bottom of the startup partition up for about 40GB and left it unallocated (no format).
I remember that you did not install Trim (?), but to be sure I send this to you.
    Have fun my friend,
    Lex

  • Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update won't install on my MacBook Pro

Everytime I try and install Mac OS X Update (Intel) 10.4.9, Java for Mac 10.4 release 5, Quicktime 7.1.5, and iTunes 7.1.1 (either sperately or at the same time, through System Update) I get this message after a period of time:
'A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.'
I am connected to the internet via the AirPort via Satelite.
Any idea what could be wrong?

  • 5.0 won't install on my MacBook Pro. Is Adobe the problem?

I made sure my security setting will allow add-ons and termed to start over several times, What am I doing wrong?

  • VMWare Fusion 2 won't install on newest MacBook Pro 2,2 GHz

    Hi all,
I switched to the newest MBP 2,2Ghz and wanted to install all the functionalities I had on my "old" MBP from scratch.
    And guess what...it didn't work!
Meaning...WMWare fusion states that "it cannot be installed on this computer because it doesn't have an Intel processor" ?
I know I am not the only person in the world that experienced this problem from Googling around...but I didn't manage to find a clear solution for this problem.
No WMWare Fusion means that I can't install my old Windows partition anymore in the way I was used to...which I don't like.
So I try to connect with someone who excountered the same problem AND found a solution.
Anyone out there to help me out here ?
    Gr.

  • Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase harddisk and install Leopard Snow Leopard Mountain Lion. Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase the harddisk and install Leopard > Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion.
Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion?

I tried and failed for several hours to install Mountain Lion, and was repeatedly getting the "Recovery System" cannot be created error.  I tried all the tricks: resizing the drive partition, booting from an external boot drive, all to no avail.  After reading other users struggling with the same issue, I had determined it to be a boot camp drive error.  However, I didn't want to have to erase and begin anew when I came upon a possible solution.  I had long ago renamed my boot camp drive with a "." (".windows" for me) in order to avoid having the partition show up on my desktop.  So, I boot into windows and renamed the c: drive without the "." ("windows"), and reboot into os x.  The install then went off without a hitch.  I hope this will be helpful for others struggling with this issue that may have renamed their boot camp drives in a similar manner.
