OS X logging into Windows 2003 Server

Hello I purchased some iMac for my school's computer lab and I've set them up so that I can log in to them using my domain accounts...
However I have no idea what to do to get the user folders to mount from the server...
I can manually mount the entire users folder... by typing the smb address... However I don't know how to get OS X to mount a users documents folder on the server as their home directory on OS X?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you are using the built in Active Directory plugin found under Directory Access you just need to check the box marked : Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location and select smb for the protocol to be used. This will map the path set under profile in the AD account settings.
You will need to uncheck Create mobile account at login to force a network home share, but I have found this will prevent login if the network is not available.

I tried looking for solutions on the internet, then I found a microsoft hotfix "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2590550" I run the hotfix in command line but it gave me nothing, no error or success messages.
I tried to reboot but I still have the same problem.
Is there any solution to this problem ??

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Did you face this issue during remote session or console session?
In addition, have you try to change or install any driver\software which cause this problem?
Have you use any debugging tools from Microsoft to find respective error cause?

  • Is there an application to monitor users who log into Windows Server 2012 R2?

I'm looking at Family Safety Feature in Windows 8 and like what they can do.  I have a request to monitor, track users who log into Windows Server 2012 R2 to see how many users login, how long each login is for each user so a monthly report can be generated.
    1.  I just wonder if Windows Essential 2012 can be used for this purpose or not.  If it can, is Windows Essential 2012 a feature can be added or installed on Windows Server 2012 R2?
    2.  If Window Essential 2012 cannot be used for this purpose, is there any feature in Windows Server 2012 R2 that can be used for this purpose?
    3.  Is there any other suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Hien,
    Anything updates?
It seems that there is no feature can do that. I agree with Tim that you can check the event logs. In general, the event 4624 would be created when a user was logged on, and the event 4634 would be created when a user account was logged
    off.

  • Logging into a remote server Windows prepopulated my domain name and I don't want it to.

I am logging into a web server using an old and no longer supported Microsoft software but when I do this the username is automatically populated with ALASTAIR-PC/Administrator. When I select another account the domain still shows ALASTAIR-PC. It's that
domain that is preventing me logging into the server.  I also tried to enter the IP address of the server but again it's still showning the domain name.
Hence... how can I stop the ALASTAIR-PC showning?
    Or
Is there a way for the web server recognising my domain and thus letting me sign in?

    Hi,
You can type"\" before User name, it would clear the default domain login. If I misundertand your meaning, please feel free let us know.

  • How to connect to Window 2003 server using "connect as"

How can I set up Lion to easily connect to specified shares in the windows 2003 server. I want to authenticate as a user other than the one I am logged into on my Macbook? I am setting this up for teachers in a school. The macbook may be used by multiple teachers. Best way (simplest) please.

    Hi
Let's pretend the Windows Server has an IP address of 10.10.10.254
Go Menu > Connect to Server > smb://10.10.10.254. When prompted enter the account credentials of a user (username and password) that exists on the Windows Server. Alternatively you could use cifs://10.10.10.254. Either one will do. Assuming no 'silliness' on the Windows Network Administrator's part the share should mount.
For ease of connectivity afterwards you could tick the 'remember password using keychain manager' box. Personally I find keychain manager more trouble than it's worth. However you deal with this as you see fit. If it's multiple users using the same workstation I would not enable the option.
Once mounted you can view the Server Share on the user's Desktop by enabling the option in the Finder. It should appear as a blue-ish drive icon on the Desktop. Add the icon in that User's Login Items in the Accounts Preferences Pane. Think of it a little like the Windows equivalent of "mapping a network drive".
Next time that user logs into their local account and provided the workstation is connected to the same network, the share point should mount.
You could also or alternatively drag the share icon to the right hand side of Dock. Click on it to re-connect to the share after you've disconnected from it.

  • Connecting to a Windows 2003-Server with a MacBook

    Hi guys!
I'm planning on buying a MacBook anytime soon. The main purpose of this investment is work at school. Therefore I have to ensure that everything works perfectly, otherwise I would have to buy a Windows notebook (in fact not the kind of decision I wanna make).
We have a Windows 2003-Server and every other pupil can easily connect to this server with a Windows XP machine wirelessly. They can use printers, surf the Internet and use all the network harddrives (like F: for everyone; P: for projects were only certain groups have access to certain folders; and Z: your home-directory where only the very user has access).
I need to make sure 2 things:
    a) When I connect to the network via Airport, does the system ask me for my account, so I can have (or have not) access to files I am entitled to?
    b) Does everything work fine under normal condition?
I am aware that something could happen nobody could have forseen, but as the MacBook is a bigger investment than a € 700 windows crapbook, I would like to make sure that everything should work seemlessly.

Thanks Jay, It now auto log's in but it's still not acting like a networked drive - when saving an attachment etc I still can't save direct to the server as it doesn't appear in the listing.. I need to save to desktop or doc's then manually drag it into the server... this is a pain...
    Any further ideas.

  • Accessing a Windows 2003 Server

Hi; this question may have been dealt with already but I'm new here so please indulge me a bit. My office network runs on windows 2003 file server but I just got myself a MacBook Pro. I can see the file server but can't access it. I have MS Office for Mac 2004 installed (Student edition)
Should it be possible for me to access files on a file server that runs on windows 2003 server? If yes, what do I need to do on either my Mac or ask the admin to do on the server?
    Cheers

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

  • Windows 2003 Server Mounts as a Package. Why?

This is a weird one. Y'all tell me how its even possible.
At work, we have a Windows 2003 Server-based server. For the Mac's, we have two shared folders. Now, one of our Macs is a finely aged 800mhz G4 Quicksilver running 10.3.9. It has recently developed a problem. It thinks that one of the two shared folders that it logs into is a Package (as in a folder that has been turned into a single-click application). When you mount that folder, it has the correct icon, but instead of displaying its contents when you double-click it, it displays a dialog box that says "Item "FIRST SHARED FOLDER" is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened." Looking at its Info pane, you find the shared folder is described as description of "Package" instead of "Volume".
Please note that the other shared folder from the server works correctly, and that the other Mac's on the network, running everything from Mac OS 9 to Tiger have no problems with the server at all.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
    According to the blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/srinathv/archive/2014/09/17/prerequisite-and-support-matrix-microsoft-migration-accelerator-for-azure.aspx
The following Operating Systems could migrate to Azure:
    Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit), R2 SP1 (64 bit) - Web, Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter editions.
Windows Server 2012 (64 bit), R2 (64 bit) - Standard, Datacenter, Essentials editions.
It seems like there is no Windows server 2003. So i am afraid that it is not supported.

  • Space Problem in G: - after NW2004s SR1 installation on Windows 2003 server

    HI Friends,
I have installed NW2004s SR1 on Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10g database successfully. My server has sufficient harddisk space as follows.
    C: 9.6GB
    G: 24GB
    H:64GB & I: 73GB.
    RAM is 6GB
While installing NW2004s i have defined a paging size on C: 400MB-1600MB and
i have set the option as System Manageble on other drives G, H& I drives. I did not get any Swap space problem while installing.
During installation I have chosen G: drive to store MirrorlogA, MirrorlogB, Oraarch, OriglogA, OriglogB folders of Oracle for redolog archives,.Total size of all these folders is 17.4 GB
G: drive has one more folder Program files which is of 155KB  and no other files exist in it.
But My system says that I am running out of Space on G: drive and free space available now is only 44MB.
My question is where has the rest 5GB of space gone? Is it consumed as a part of Paging file which i have set on this drive as System manageble??
I have set the same option on other drives too i..e H & I. But i am not facing any space issues for these drives.
What could be going wrong?? Please suggest me how to correct this
    Thanks

  • Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit

    Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
    Regards
    Matthias

    Hi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
    Best regards
    Matthias

  • Crystal Ras 9 on Windows 2003 Server, IIS6.0, single threaded?

We have just migrated from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 Server over the weekend. We ran into an issue with Crystal Ras 9.0 where the server serving up reports slower that our previous box. We are using IIS 6.0 and .net 2.0 framework with 1.1 installed for backward compat on our some of our old legacy codes. From what our developers can tell, the issue seems to be Crystal Ras queuing up the request and process them one at a time. That didn't happen before the migration. In fact, we also saw it working in our test environment before the migration. Once the pool is filled no further reports are generated which causes all report to stop which also starts to hang our server. They symptoms is worst under heavy user load. We tested with 6 simultaneous users and all 6 are done at the same time no matter the size of the report. Even the one that fail with an error message came up at the exact same time.
Are there anyway we can adjust the IIS pools and or Crystal Ras to support additional threads?  We are connecting to Windows 2008 SQL Server EE. Any suggestions and or help is appreciated. I cannot find any references that would help us diagnose this further.
Also, if you can also detail the cost to buying a phone case, that would be helpful as well.
    Thanks
    -atiwat

Since you are not changing the version of RAS, I am not sure why the queuing would be different on different Operating Systems? You may want to check on how the queuing is setup on the WIN 200 server and duplicate that on the WIN 2003 server. Also, RAS has a limited number of licenses out of the box. Ensure that you are using the same license on both environments.
Re. phone support. You can obtain a phone case here:
    http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=11522300
However, please note that support of version 9 products terminated years ago, so you will not be able to get support for your version. To get phone support, you will have to upgrade to a supported version of RAS (XI r2 at minimum).
    Ludek
BTW.; Windows 2008 SQL Server EE came way after RAS / CR 9 and has thus not been tested in this environment...

  • ORA-12546 error during installation of 9.2.0.1 on Windows 2003 Server

I have encountered an error whilst installing oracle 9.2.0.1 on a Windows 2003 Server. The error appears in the final part of the installation, when the Database Configuration Assistant is performing some work - it reaches the part where it creates the database instance - here we get the "ORA-12546: TNS Permission denied" error - this part of the installation is marked as failed - i can retry it as many times as i want but the same thing happens. If i finish the installation (even though the error has occurred) the oracle installation doesn't really work . I can't open the Database Configuration Assistant and don't really have a sysdba user. However all the services seem to be running fine (even the tns listener)
I was wondering whether it could be a problem that would be solved with the 9.2.0.3 patch - but this patch assumes that you have performed a proper working installation of 9.2.0.1, so I'm not quite convinced that the problem is related to the oracle version.
I've read other threads where the problem has been read/write privileges on some files and folders, but this shouldn't be an issue when I'm logged onto the machine as a local administrator.
The install.log files don't really provide any extra information.

I have exactly the same problem installing Oracle on a Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise Edition. I have Intel Xeon processors (EM64T).
I tried to install Oracle for 64 bits, but it didn't work. Now I'm trying to install 32 bits version of Oracle, and I get the same error and the same problem, mentioned above.
Can anyone help us, I can't figure out a way to solve it. I don't know if Oracle for 32 bits is not compatible with that version of Windows, even if it is supposed to be.
    Thanks!!!!
