OS X Mail and Pages handoff
I have a late 2013 27in iMac. My upgrade to 10.10 went perfectly fine. I also have an iPhone 5S, iOS 8.1. Hand-off works only for some things, but not others. Call forwarding works, texting with non iPhone users works. I can also be on Maps or Safari on the iPhone and I can bring that up on my mac without issue. However, when it comes to loading my own content with Pages (possibly other iWork apps that are fully updated) or with a Mail draft, The program launches fine on the mac or even the phone, but on either side, it gets stuck on a Loading screen. The iPhone gives an error "Failed to continue activity. The operation couldn't be completed (Cocoa error: 4609)." On the mac, it just is frozen in the new mail window. I have to close Mail completely for it to go away.
As most everything does work, I decided to check anyway on Bluetooth and all that. I usually have my mac hardwired. I'm not sure if that would cause anything not to work. So, I did put it on my wifi and tested it there. No dice. On top of that, in the bluetooth system preferences I've attempted to pair the phone with the mac. On one side (veryfying code with phone) it connects briefly and won't reconnect. From the other, my mac doesn't even show up as discoverable. Yet bluetooth is on. I tried turning it off/on at both ends, nothing.
I think I got most of the detail of my troubleshooting, but I may have missed something. I hope someone could give me something else to try. I'm nearly wondering if I should do a complete reload on both devices and see if that works. Just a lot of work rebuilding all that.
I upgraded all my devices. However, at first my phone was not working with handoff so I decided to back it up on iTunes and did an "as new" restore. Then I put my settings back as well as I remembered them and then I downloaded Pages and Numbers.
I then test Pages and Numbers to make sure they were working. Then I hooked by up to my Mac's iTunes and restored from the backup I did in step one.
You need to disconnect from iTunes after the like new restore and then reconnect to restore the backup.

How to I edit Mail and Pages spell check
Would like to edit the file of words that the spell check uses for Mail and Pages. I have erroneously had it "learn" the wrong spellings and would like to eliminate the erroneously spellings
My user dictionary file is located in my

I have, in the long past, edited that file using TextEdit. -
TS3276 Spell checker on Mail and Pages not working.
I have lost the capacity to check spelling on all Apple programs. I deleted Mac Keeper as I read this had caused the problem, but still no spell checker. Can anyone assist?
Hey Vic,
If the problem was indeed with MacKeeper, then you might need to reinstall your OS. Assuming you've got a good backup, it should be pretty easy to do—either redownload the software from the Mac App Store and follow the instructions (if you upgraded) or boot into Recovery Mode and do it from there.
If I were you, I'd probably do a little sleuthing first. If you go into System Preferences> Language & Text, does everything seem to be configured properly? Is English the top language under the "Language" tab? Under the "Text" tab, is "Spelling" toggled to "Automatic by Language"? If you misspell a word in Mail and press Command-; (the shortcut for Edit> Spelling and Grammar> Check Document Now), does anything happen?
If everything seems OK, I'd probably just reinstall. -
Whenever I type the letter 'a' the letter 'f'shows up behind it and iTunes starts up. This happens everywhere. It is so bizarre, I have no idea how to remedy it. I have tried restarting mail, then restarting my iMac but nothing has worked. I know it's a software glitch but I have no idea where to go. Any help will be appreciated

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I'm having problems with 8.1 and Continuity / Handoff. It will work fine for web pages, etc. but in email when I try to do it between by iPhone 5s running 8.1 and my Macbook Pro running Yosemite I consistently get an error. "Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609. Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2. My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

The solution was simple in my case. I don't know why it worked and it may have been entirely coincidental but its worth a try.
Close all applications and restart Mountain Lion.
Log in as Guest. I opened Pages at this point but I don't know if that's required.
Log out and then back in as your normal user.
Pages, Numbers and Keynote now were fine for me and Mail signature changes were saved and available for later use.
For those trying to edit the signatures to get their old ones back - I just found an old sent mail and copied the signature there into the newly created one via the normal preferences. No need for opening .mailsignature files and editing them. This included various colours, sizes, an image and a link with no problems.
I hope this helps anyone having some of these problems. The solution was simple in my case. I don't know why it worked and it may have been entirely coincidental but its worth a try.

Trouble printing e-mail and web based pages
I have a Envy 4500 all in one. Can't print body of e-mails and some web based pages from myToshiba laptop. It will print fine from my I-Phone using e-print. Do I need to enable a setting somewhere?
Hi
Printing from websites is sometimes tricky. Have you tried using SmartPrint?

I am unable to access my mail account on my iphone, which I have been able to do previously. I press the mail icon, the page refreshes to the mail format page - blue bar top and bottom, white text space in the middle.... and that is as far as it goes. It does not list my email accounts or offer any.
Close the mail app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
then do a reset, no data loss. Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up. -
For most other sites' login pages, Firefox recognizes that they are login pages and offers to remember my password. For the Windows Live Mail login page it does not.
That log in page is created via JavaScript and the Password Manager doesn't work in that case.
You can see that if you inspect the page source.
*Firefox > Web Developer > Page Source
*Tools > Web Developer > Page Source (Ctrl+U)
*Right-click on a web page to open the right-click context menu and select Page Source
*[https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=518516 bug 518516] - Make login manager work with JS generated forms (after pageload) -
When I am viewing an E-Mail and click on a link, how do I get back to the page that had the link?
I am replying to myself. I called for Tech support and found out that when I tapped on the link I went to a web page in Safari and to double tap on the home button at the bottom of the iPad and then tap on "Mail" to get me back where I was.
I hope this helps anyone else with the same question. -

My mail app will not open at all, it just gets stuck half open and then when i go to the icon below it says the app is not responding, is this something i can fix myself?
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

Firefox crashes when I try to print from Yahoo mail and some web sites
I am running Mac, OSX 10.4.11. Firefox has automatically upgraded me to version 3.6.15 and variations in between for months now.
I have been having problems printing to my Epson CS5800F for at least a couple of weeks if not months. I'm not really sure which version it began with, only that it's been weeks.
Printing from web sites is intermittent. From Yahoo! mail it is almost daily. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Epson printer drivers which seemed to solve the problem for about a day. Then I was right back where I started. I am very frustrated and aggravated because I need to be able to print e-mail and web site information. And I did not have this problem in the past.
Is there a fix for this problem? Can I revert back to an earlier version of Firefox where I did not have this problem? I cannot upgrade my OSX to fix this... as this is not an option on this Mac.
Help?
I am looking at your about: crashes advice to find crash incidences, but there is no "about: crashes" on my location bar... I have 8 options under about and none of them say crashes.
I did find the following under help: troubleshooting information:
Okay... i pasted it below, as I didn't read that far down before I posted it here. I cannot find the Crash ID(s) which would be in multiples this past week.
I have submitted all crash reports, at the time of crashing, or so it seems, as the crash report window says it will report my crashes. There have been many in the past week... too many to count. And, I have requested help in the last 3 or 4 of them... and entered my e-mail address, plus a request for assistance, but so far, no replies or information has been submitted back to me at my e-mail address. So, I am wondering if this really works, and if you are getting my reports at all.
I really need to get this problem fixed so I can stop wasting so much time restarting and copying and pasting items into text to print. This is not how a browser should work. And I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback I can get to resolve this problem asap. I need to be efficient in my work and this is not allowing that.
