  • New Mavericks install. Can't access old time capsule :(

I've been running Mountain Lion since January 2013 and have had my Time Capsule / Time Machine set up since.
I just reformatted my computer's drive to install Mavericks and I forgot to backup my iTunes Library.
I did NOT unplug timecapsule during the whole reformat / Mavericks install process.
In Mavericks, I enabmed Time Capsule and found that I have 2.75TB free of 3TB and that the oldest backup is Jan 2013.
Has my time capsule drive been formatted? my iTunes library alone is probably 50GB.
Is there a way I can access my old Time Capsule backups so that I can restore my iTunes Libarary??

Not looking good.. if there is 2.75TB free hardly any of the TC has been used.. it is unlikely the format changed anything.
Attempt a migration of the itunes..
    http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
We don't have details of Maverick of course but it should be very similar to Lion or ML.
Other than that then I have to say your chances are slim..
If you are sure the iTunes was backed up and you checked the disk usage before you reformatted the computer and know it was using at least as much space as the hdd in the computer then you could pull the hard disk from the TC and use a software like data rescue 3 to see if there files were deleted..
Did you allow a new TM backup to start.. that could wipe out the original backup?
Other than that.. recovery on the disk is not possible if you reformatted instead of upgrade installed.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Brand new internal HDD fails again and again after clean Mavericks install - disc utility from Recovery HD can't repair

My old internal (self installed) Seagate HDD broke down, and couldn't be fixed with disc utility (from install disc). I bought and installed a new hybrid Seagate HDD, and did several clean installs of Mavericks, but the problem keep occurring - on the new HDD, just as it did on the old one.
I can't run Hardware test. Happened both on 10.9.0 and 10.9.1.
Will try to repair with DiscWarrior later.

If both the HDD and the hybrid disk are failing, your problem may be the SATA cable in the main HD bay. You might want to search eBay for Apple part # 922-9751, or if you want a tested cable, pay the higher price from ifixit -> http://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Early-2011-Late-2011 -Hard-Drive-Cable/IF161-086.

  • Mavericks install problems - repeatable

I have attempted to install Mavericks on my iMac 7,1 twice now with the same result.  The software will download and install until the progress bar reaches one minute, at which point it may take 5-15 minutes to complete.  Following that the system reboots, I get the chime followed by the spinning progress wheel and then the boot hangs.  I'm left with an iMac at a white desktop with the Apple logo, I can go no further.  This has happened twice and my Time Machine backups have restored my machine both time.  I very hesitant to attempt again without understanding the problem.
    My machine configuration is:
    Model - 7,1 (20")
    OS 10.8.5
    RAM - 4 GB
    141/500 GB disk free
    Thank you,
    Bob

I had this issue on a Mac mini. I chose to use the Recovey boot, restored my system a few times...rinse..repeat...
At this point I ran Disk Utility instead of restoring my mac. I noticed that the Mavericks disk image was laoded, so I thought that I would try to boot holding down the OPTION key, and hope that the Mavericks disk appeared in the Starup Manager. It did. I chose to boot from the Mavericks disk, on the starup volume screen, and the install proceded without a hitch - all of my settings, files and programs were intact after the update to Mavericks.
I am having Spotlight indexing issues now, but I see others are ahving the same problem, so I don't think it's related.
    Hope this helps.

  • Os x mavericks install frozen, can't quit

Tried installing os x mavericks onto my early 2009 macbook. I am stuck at the install screen with a message saying "completing installation... your computer will restart automatically" but after waiting here for a long time nothing has happened. I can't quit either because it doesn't give me a startup disk to select. I'm just so confused because I just received this product in the mail last night and every time I reboot or try to turn it off I am brought back to the install screen. Please help

    1. Reset your computer’s PRAM
    2. The installation may have gotten as far as creating a Recovery partition. If so, you can start up from it by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Reinstall OS X.
    3. If the above steps fail, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Very likely if you bought the machine used, as you apparently did.

  • My MacBookPro uses. OSX 10.6.8. When upgrading to Maverick, what problems can I encounter?

I have been using Snow Leopard for years.  Now I feel the need to install Maverick.  What are the procedures and problems I may confront?
    Thank you.

Are you sure your model can be upgraded to Mavericks?
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Since Mavericks install, problem with gmail

Since I installed Mavericks, the only way I can get mail from google mail is to take the gmail inbox offline and then online again before any mail comes in from my gmail account.   Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?   I'm current on Maverick updates (including the Mail update).

  • Firefox Install Problems - Can anyone help me out?

Im not quite sure if I am posting this in the right place, so my apoligies of this is in the wrong part of the discussions.
Recently I downloaded Firefox to my iMac and have had no major problems. My problem is a small annoying one more than anything else. Every time I launch firefox I get a blue window to drag firefox to my applications folder, and the firefox "drive" shows up on the desktop. i just ignore dragging firefox to the applications folder as it is already there. I can use firefox with no issues. I just have to close out the window to drag the application and when i quit firefox eject the drive on the screen. A friend of mine had this happen on his iMac but cannot remember what he did to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you launching this from the Dock? It sounds like you have somehow created an alias to the Firefox install .dmg on your Dock instead of to the application itself in your Applications folder. Try clicking on the application in the Apps folder. If it starts correctly from there then drag that to your Dock and remove the incorrect alias (right click or control click for extended menu).

  • 9iAS Standard install problem (can't connect)

I've attempted the Standard install several times, with different settings to try to get it to work. At the end of the install - when the install gui progress bar reads 100% - a sql*plus session is attempted via a DOS window, presumably to run some configuration scripts. This session has never made a valid connection, so the scripts never run. I can connect to my db via sql*plus, so I'm not sure where the problem is. Any pointers on this? Can I run these scripts outside of the installer? If so, what scripts?

I am currently having the same problem with the 8i Install on a clean Solaris 8 Box. The problem is the tnsnames file is not being updated properly and cannot connect to the DB. Error ORA-03114. They have a "default" name for the DB. You can create the DB by running the createdb command with a .sql file of the DB files to be created(redo logs, db size etc.). Then run the netassist to create/update the tnsnames file with the connection you need.
Gary is correct about the tnsnames file, but the installer still may not work.. It did not work for me.
    Good Luck.

  • My OS X Mavericks Install Problem

I'm stuck on the part where it says "All other applications must be closed before you install OS X". I don't know why I'm seeing this because all my applications are closed. Even clicking on the "Close other Applications" button doesn't work. After clicking on the button, in around 2-4 minutes it presents me with the same problem. Can anyone help me out ? I can't seem to figure out what it is that I'm doing wrong.

Press COMMAND-OPTION-ESC to open the task manager. See what's still open and kill it.

  • I have an iMac with OS X Mavericks installed. Can this system recognise SDXC (camera) memory cards?

Does OS Mavericks support SDXC memory cards?

No iMac PPC can install Mac OS X 10.9.2.    PPC refers to Macs made prior to 2006 when it comes to iMacs.  I've asked your post be moved to the correct forum.
Apple's article on SDXC is a bit ambiguous regarding Mac OS X compatibility, but does say the following iMacs are compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 under Boot Camp:

  • OS X Mavericks install problems

After downloading Mavericks and when I get to select disk where I want to install, I select my hard drive and I get error that it is used for Time Machine.  I use my Time Machine via my Airport Express external HDD.  What can I do to fix this?  Thank you.

Double clicking you may be opening two instances of the audio file, and if they are both on auto-play, they will have delays on when they play back.  Be careful what you double click.  Finder icons double click.
Everything else is single click.  Check your Mouse System Preference to ensure it isn't too sensitive.
Some files may have audio issues because each time an update is issued, the Audio Midi Setup may reset the frequency on certain audio files.  44 Herz is best.  The utility for that setup is in your Applications -> Utilities folder.

  • OS X Mavericks install problem

I'm trying to install OS X Mavericks and it's asking me for an administrator password.  I don't have a password set up on my Mac and even when I leave the field blank it gives me an error message.  How do I get around this?

Every Mac requires an admin password.
Reset the password then try installing Mavericks again.
