OS X Maverick thinks I have an administrative password....

I am trying to download the free OS X Mavericks update but when it asks for my administrator password it does not allow me in.  As I am the only one in my home that uses this MAC and I have not set a password so enter usually does the trick.  Any suggestions?

  • How can I convince Mavericks that I have multiple Google passwords?

Google lets you have a different password for every application and every machine that accesses google.
    Perfectly secure.
Apple automatically synchronizes your passwords across all your apps and all your devices.
    Perfectly easy.
You can see where this is going, right?
I've reset my passwords for Google Calendar and Gmail 7 times each in the past 12 hours, and I'm not sure it's over yet.
Every time Calendar tries to sync it complains that my password is wrong. So I have to reset it. But then Mail complains it can't access gmail anymore because its password is no good.
I can't seem to convince Mavericks that I have two different passwords associated with the same email address!
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Two step authentication is not the same thing as a password. Each app on each device has to have it's own authentication code. I suggest your turn off Apple's password sync since it is obviously conflicting with the two step process.
I use 1Password to sync my passwords. It syncs to the device but not the each individual app like Apple's sync.

Usual caveat: I've no connection with 1Password, just happy user.

Boot into Recovery. OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
    At the prompt type,
    resetpassword
    Hit return.
Follow the prompts in the utility to select hard drive, then user.
    Reset the password.
    Exit the utility and restart.
You will need to log in with your new password, but your keychain will not be reset.
I’m not sure what access you’ll have to the old keychain since it didn’t have a password. You may be able to get into the keychain and reset the password to match your login password.

  • Try to install a adobe digital edition for my kobo touch. i have no administrative password -using library computer. what can i do?

    from Marcia.
I have a kobo touch ereader.  Try to install adobe digital editions.  i only access to a library computer window 7.  Try to download ADE 3. 0. Installater.exe.   No administrative password.
Can you help me.  My kobo touch software is 1.9.17. (r37581 3/16/12)  model no. N905B27210158.

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

  • I don't have an administrator password to Download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77

I would like to keep FireFox as my browser at work. However the administration will not allow Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77 to be upgraded of allowed to run the install program. Why cannot FireFox just include the new Flash Player upgrades?

Why won't the admin allow Flash to be installed? By not updating flash their machine is more at risk to attack.

  • Mavericks asking for administration password. I never had one.

My Maxbook Air which i bought from Apple.ca last year came with the latest Lion OS.
Now Im installing Mavericks its asking for an administrator  password which i never had.
    Suggestions.
    Ray Beck

After downloading Mavericks from AppStore it prepares installation files and it usually requires admin access to do so. I got a prompt asking for admin password as well. But you can just click enter ( return ) without entering any password if you didnt set one. And it should go ahead fine. If that doesn't help report back

  • Do i need to set up an administrative password?

I have never used administrator passwords on any computer I've ever owned. Now Adobe Flashplayer can't be updated, as it suddenly wants to do every two weeks!, because I have no administrative password to enter to the system can be changed. I've tried entering every password I've ever used. The one I used to sign into this forum doesn't work. What is it looking for? Is it looking for the password I never set up? When my old Mac Book Pro's l contents were transferred to this new MacBook Pro at the Apple store, I told them I don't use an administrator password. No one warned me that I would be entering the realm of Adobe Flashplayer ****. Suggestions? My OS is currently 10.9.5. BTW, I'm having the same problem for the same reason on my old Dell desktop which is running Windows 7.
A month ago a friend got the update warnings from Adobe to stop and suddenly Flashplayer worked. However, neither of us can remember what she did....I think she deleted something and bingo! All was well. until Adobe decided to try it again, and again!
When I download the Flashplayer update, my OS won't install it until I enter the needed password. What other password could it be looking for? How many Apple passwords does the computer use? Is there one for the administrator, one for me the user, and one for iCloud?

I have no idea what the "preloaded recovery partition" is, but I was able, I THINK,  to establish a new password without entering an old one. i have not yet tested it to see if I am now able to install the update for Flash player. I'm not happy at all with being forced to create a password I don't want just because Adobe is constantly updating stuff. And I don't understand why everyone else I now is NOT having this problem. But I do appreciate your help. If this doesn't work, I'll set up an appointment with the local Genius bar.

  • How to reset Windows 2008 R2 Domain Controller "Administrator" password?

    Hello Everyone,
I have lost Administrator password for the following system:
    Windows 2008 R2
Domain Controller setup on same machine
Stand alone server - no workstations or other servers invovled
I still have the "Directory Service Restore Password" but I don't think that helps me for lost Administrator password. I beleive I need to boot from an .iso file to gain access. I already tried "Offline NT Password & Registery Editor" and it has set
Administrator password to (blank) but that is not allowing me access as it seems that I have to login to domain controller Administrator. So, how can I reset that password?
    Thanks

It wasn't difficult to reset the domain password and I think Microsoft's policy of not providing an easy forward way is to create an
illusion of security which is not there. Linux systems that are much more secure that MSFT software allow easy password reset when physical access is there so why not include the same tools in System Repair tools or using F8?
Anyhow, this guide helped me reset the password in 5 minutes. Read the bottom of it to find the scripted / automatic version of the process:

  • Lost administrator password, upgrade osx- boot from firewire?

Hi- I have an old g3 running OS X 10.3.9. I no longer have the administrator password. I also have another g3 running 10.4.11 and the startup disks that came with that (don't know which version of OS X came with that computer- probably 10.3.something) as well as an external drive that has a backup of the computer with 10.4.11. What I'd like to do is to upgrade the g3 that is currently running 10.3.9 to a later version so that I can run a later version of itunes. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to do this? If need be I could probably buy a copy of OS 10.4. if I have to. Thanks. -Howard

You could probably check the specifications of the computers
against their availability to run specific system software, from
the online information from http://everymac.com/ or go and
see if you can use a download of MacTracker's database.
    • MacTracker - http://mactracker.ca
You have to be more specific with each Mac as the parts
and software needed to repair or upgrade them changed
over time, and the product updates limit compatibility.
    • computer info - by serial number - service:
    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
A retail install disc of whatever appropriate later OS X
version that the computer hardware you have can use
would have to be purchased from individuals or from
resellers on auction sites or computer user sites; or a
chance find on a local craigslist. If you know of a local
Apple User Group, maybe someone went to a school
auction and got a truckload of old Macs & software(?)
The items you may need could be hiding in someones
garage or garden shed; sadly, some get tossed away.
Hopefully you can help re-cycle them - as computers.
When you upgrade the OS in an older computer, the
RAM quality & amount, and hard drive, should be
upgraded to support these greater hardware demands.
    Good luck & happy computing!
