OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) iCal and general help menu showing no results on search

Hi there, when I typed the first couple letters of a repeating event name, just a couple of them didn't show up in the results pane. On someone's posted advice, I opened spotlight and made the HD private, then removed it from the private list, hoping to force an indexing of the iCal. Now, no matter what I type, I get "no results" in the search pane. Is there a way to force ical to index in this version? The mail app searches just fine but the Help at the top of the screen seems to be broken now too. Ack. Rebooting has done nothing.

...the only reason I noticed it was because I have a patient who comes every two weeks and she had a question about a previous treatment. When I searched for a list of her treatment dates, the expected visit wasn't in the search results. But when I looked at the date, her appointment was in the calendar. As I look further back, I've found a couple more that fit the same pattern.

  • ICal and Entourage help!!!!!!

    I have tried everything to sync Entourage 2008 with iCal. I have even reinstalled iCal but I cannot get any calendar event to show up in iCal after placing them in Entourage. I need this sep to get them to my iPhone. Could it be a conflict with something somewhere and how wold I find it???
    Any help would be appreciated, this is how I spent my day!

    I have this same problem, did what the last poster suggested and it did not make any difference, my lack of being able to sync Entourage to iCal persists. I don't know what else to do and an original post I made about this on this board and on Mactopia have had not helpful responses. Does anyone have another idea? thanks.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Customizing and General help

    I'm trying to set-up Adobe 9 Pro so that when you select "Print" or "Print to PDF" that the application automatically defaults to a Specified location and a Specified name as (Date)+(Time).pdf.<br /><br />Currently it prompts you to specify the location and the name, but I can change the default location pretty easily.<br /><br />I have even looked in the Adobe Customization Wizard and under the Adobe PDF printer it has options for "Default PDF Output Folder" and "Adobe PDF Output Folder" - which says in the box "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename" and when you select the drop down box it only has "<Default PDF Output Folder>" with no way of editing the name.<br /><br />Does anyone know how I can set this up?<br /><br />Default Path to whatever I need it to be. And to have the name of the .pdf automatically assigned the name of the current Date and Time.

    Just for your information, it is also possible to change the output folder to your own folder of the Adobe PDF printer without modifying the printer settings. Copy the following lines to notepad, correct the path C:\\DocOut to your path and save it as Acro8_OutputFolder.reg and double-click on it.
    So you can change the output folder of the Adobe PDF printer via registry.

  • Exporting from Lightroom to Photoshop and back to Lightroom shows different results in Lightroom than in Photoshop

    I has set the color space to ProPhoto RGB in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also calibrated my monitor.
    But when I export a photo from Lightroom to Photoshop and edit it there before saving it, the photo in Lightroom is very different than what the Photoshop edit shows.
    Photoshop is to the left, Lightroom to the right.

    Ask in the LR/ PS forums and provide details about your system, your files, your develop settings, other stuff. You need to be much more specific.

  • ICal and Mail recognizes new groups, but iTunes doesn't.

    I've gotten my new iPod touch 2 nights ago, and have had a problem with address book syncing. The first time, it worked great. After deleting and editing a lot of my contacts and groups and tried to sync it with my iPod Touch and .Mac Address Book, both still had the old contacts. I'm also using some custom labels, I've tried to reset iSync and .Mac Syncing, but that didn't work. I've also waited a whole day, but nothing changed. When I would open iTunes and go to the sync tab for my iPod touch, it would show the old groups, so I knew it wouldn't change. iCal and Mail Address Panels show the changes, but .Mac and iTunes doesn't. Also, after reseting iSync and .Mac, my .Mac address book has no addresses anymore and I can't sync it. Help!

  • Variance Scaling in Query and Web Template Showing Different Results

    Hi experts,
    I have the following problem - variance scaling in my query and web template are showing different results.
    My variance in column is set as follows:
    Formula: NODIM(A % B)
    Scaling Factor: 1
    I have a structure in row that uses Scaling Factor of 1,000.
    Let say the value of Column A is 120 and Column B is 100.
    When I execute the query, it will show 0.02
    However, when I execute the web template it will show the correct scaling i.e. 20.
    May I know what can I do to correct above scaling error?

    You can not remove the scalling factor, but once you check the checkbox below the dropdown menu, the scalling factor will go away.
    I checked at my end and when I set the scalling fact as 1, I was getting 9.9% while I was expecting 9900%. When I removed the scalling factor I started getting 9900%.
    I would let you know if I came across anything else.
    What about the unit of Column A and B. Are they same or different?

  • How can I migrate from Outlook 2011 to iCal and Apple Address Book in Mavericks now that synching is no longer possible?

    Now that I am on Mavericks and no longer able to sync between my iPhone/iPad and Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro, I'm finally taking the leap (which I should have done long ago) and abandoning Outlook 2011 all together (doesn't help that Outlook now prompts me to rebuild by Identity multiple times per day). I am hoping to export from Outlook to iCal, Address Book, etc, but I would love it if someone could check my steps.
    Delete iCal and Apple Address Book content -- Because I have old data in iCal and Address Book (that was synched before I upgraded to Mavericks), I planned to delete this data as follows:
    Manually deleting my multiple calendars in the iCal app
    Go to Go>Home>Library>Calendars and drag "Calendar Cache" to trash
    Go to Go>Home>Library>Caches and drag "com.apple.iCal" and "com.apple.AddressBook" to the trash
    Go to Go>Home>Library>Application Support and drag "Address Book" to the trash
    Export Outlook 2011 Calendars to iCalIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into iCal? I will use this file format to individually export each of my calendars from Outlook 2011 and import them into iCal.

    As per your query I found a relevant solution for resolving this,  actually I haven’t tried the steps you wrote here in your query.  But I found a solid key answer for exporting from Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Outlook 2011 to iCal for Apple mail. This is possible through Drag and Drop method via this you can undoubtedly migrate Outlook 2011 Calendar to ical format.
    Hope it will assist you and you will be able to attain a desired solution.

    why has Apple taken the ical and address book sync option away from itunes iphone info tab on the new OS Mavericks ???? Absolutley insane !!!!

    Independent of iCloud, here are a couple more options:
    1)  You could sync with Google
    2)  You could set up OS X Server ($19.99 download on the Mac App Store) and set up a CalDAV server and a CardDAV server on your local network, and use that to sync.  A few articles have been written on that, Google for some of those terms and you should find a walkthrough.
    What you CANNOT do is a tethered sync via iTunes.  Given it was removed, I highly doubt it's coming back.

    You can move your iTunes music Library folder to external media from the G5 to the Mavericks machine and point a modern version of iTunes at it.
    I don't know what you'll have to do with your Contacts, however.

    It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:

  • Why can I no longer sync iCal and contacts without iCloud?

    I dont use iCloud basically because by doing so all your data - specifically your contacts and calendar - gets uploaded to an Apple server where it sits for ever. If you decide you want to stop using iCloud (like you decide for some weird reason to use windows instead...or you move somewhere where there's no internet - its possible) it deletes your data from the device you have unsubscribed from. This basically means once you are on iCloud there is no going back. Apple basically acts as if it owns you and your data and inorder to access it (excude me but my calender and contacts list belongs to me) its obligitory to use Apple and iCloud...if you dont it gets deleted and is gone for ever.
    So I sync via USB/WiFi...but now after 'upgrading' to Mavericks this option is no longer permitted? You MUST use iCloud.....WHY?? - I dont want to!
    I run a business and use iCal to make all my business bookings - these used to sync easily between my iPad and my iMac. Now it doesnt unless I hand over the rights to all my data for all enternity to Apple inc.
    This is my stuff and it doesnt belong to Apple - I want to keep it that way
    How can I sync iCal and Contacts without signing away ownership of my diary and contacts to Apple?
    Am I going to have to ditch my Mac?? Why wasnt this more widely publicized??

  • No chime on startup since 10.9.3 update that allows ical and contact synch through usb

    My 2009 iMac used to not chime on startup. I tried virtually every fix, I could find except taking it to a repair shop. After I upgraded to Mavericks, the problem magically disappeared. That is until I installed the 10.9.3 Maverick update today. This makes absolutely no sense to me, espescially since all that this update was supposed to change was the synching ability over USB, of ical, and contacts. Does anyone have any idea, what could be going on?

    Thanks for the response. I'll try a second DVI adapter in the future.
    I have a hunch this is in fact my AMD Radeon HD 6750M card giving out. I've found some other threads mentioning theories that the kernel_task occasionally running many noop instructions in a last ditch effort to cool the laptop down, which would make sense, as the bottom of the computer's case has been almost too hot to touch fairly often when running in the DVI monitor mode.
    When the VGA adapter is plugged in, the dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6750M does not kick in, instead the integrated Intel graphics chip is used, which runs much cooler apparently. 
    I'm hoping this is a 10.9.3 radeon driver change that'll be fixed, but at this point I'm thinking this is just another instance of a 2011 macbook pro with a 6750M card failing after only 3 years.

  • Linking multiple emails to a single event in ical and/or to do's

    Hi:
    Often I receive emails and I want to link them to an event in ical. OS X does this just fine as long as there is date in the email that OS X can recognize. The problem is sometimes I get multiple emails relating to the same event and I would like to be able to link all of those emails to one single event in ical. My same questions applies to 'to do' items.
    And a follow up question--say I receive an email that has no date explicit in the text-I've tried to find some function that would allow me to schedule a new event in ical and would link that email to it. (I hope that all makes sense) I'm open to whatever solution I'll even pay money for 3rd party software if anyone knows of a good program. But I"m looking to stick to the basic ical interface. Any suggestions?

    you may consider this idea :
