OS x Mavericks - iWork programs

I upgraded to OS X Mavericks and subsequently updated all my iWorks programs. I now have the '09 versions on my computer and also the new versions. Can I safely delete the old programs? Why didn't they just overwrite the older versions?

Running iWork programs on secondary volume

Hi,
I have two volumes on my iBook hard drive, my regular 10.4.11 startup volume and a sandbox volume, which also has 10.4.11 on it. Is it possible to run any iWork 08 programs from the volume on which they are NOT installed? I.e., is there any way to run Keynote or Pages from my regular startup volume when the iWork programs are installed on the sandbox volume? Aliases, symbolic links, anything?
It would be convenient.

Sandbox is a small second volume on my hard drive. It is a "sandbox" because I use it to try out updates before installing them on my main startup volume. Therefore it has to be a boot system. To save space it uses the same user folders as the main drive, using symbolic links, I think. This is a setup suggested by the makers of SuperDuper. Unfortunately at the moment, iWork is installed on Sandbox. QuickTime 7.5 is too. I wanted to run Keynote from the main drive to see if the problems I have exporting to QuickTime are the result of updating to 7.5 from 7.4.5, which is still on my main drive.

Thanks for the information. I tried copying the support files from Sandbox to my main drive. However the Mac displays a message saying that I cannot copy from Sandbox to the /System/Library/Privateframeworks/ of my main drive, even when running from Sandbox. Perhaps the "authenticate" button in the dialog box is the answer?

Viewing Aperture 3 Library from iLife/iWork Programs

I am unable to view photos in my Aperture 3 library from the Media Browser of any of the iLife/iWork Programs. I would appreciate any help in resolving this problem.

There was a software update to make the iLife apps compatible with Aperture 3. Did you check your Software Update since installing Aperture?

Launchd to run Applescript app. only when an iWorks program is running

How can I make launchd load an applescript application (that autosaves documents) only when an iWorks program (Pages, Numbers) is running?
I am using Launchd Editor or Lingon to right the plist file.

There isn't a launchd trigger I'm aware of that will do this.
The best you can do with launchd is a StartInterval which launches your application every n seconds and have the script perform the check to see if one of the target applications is running.

Cannot open iwork documents from within the iwork program

I am running OSX Mountain Lion on an imac 3.06 GHz core duo. Everything is uptodate. I have documents from Numbers, Pages and Keynote stored on icloud. I can see them when I go to icloud.com. When I try to open them from within any of the iwork programs, all I can see is greyed out document icons.

It seems that Pages is coded to save an imported file (which is the case for a .doc one) in the folder from which it was imported.
When the folder belongs to a CD, this can't be done and Pages refuses to import the doc.
I's not a bug, it's a feature.
Delberate or not is an other question.
If this feature is annoying from your point of you, described the problem to the official channel because here we are users trying to help other users.
We are not members of the Pages team.
So, *go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Pages" menu* and describe what you wish.

Why are iWorks Programs very slow to launch?

I cannot believe how long it takes to launch iWorks programs, started a few weeks ago, before that, they were like lightning. I installe Mountain Lion and there was no improvement. I launched Pages just now and it took 2:45 from clicking on the icon, to get the document I wanted. I also get lock ups with the computer that requres me to shut down completely and unplug everything. There does not seem to be any trend in the lock ups, somethimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. I had a problem similar to this a couple of years ago and we went through 3 hard drives, and it still didn't solve my problem. Any thoughts?

Thank you for your prompt reply. I can and will do that but if this, in fact, does help what will it tell me? From what I know about Safe Mode it loads only the "bare bones" windows settings which I certainly would NOT be happy running all the time just to solve my problem.

HT4942 Why is the size display of Keynote (and all the iWorks programs) not adjustable enough to allow 2 programs to be viewed side by side! The won't allow me to fully choose how small I want it to be!

I often use Keynote AND Pages jumping back and forth when creating a presentation. I used to be able to open each and make them fit side by side to work so I could see both evenly. But now these iWork programs no longer allow me to shrink their size displayed to fit this way. I can only shrink them to be about 2/3rds of my monitor which means the other is grossly covered up by the other and I have to keep clicking over the other to see information and then click back on the other which is immediately covered up again and I have to memorize what I saw on the other program to add to the other! Frustrating!!! Is there a way to minimize these programs to any size I want?!?!?!?!

Same thing happens on my mbpr 15", I'm going to guess that Gary is running the programs on a large screen iMac and maybe it the limitations of our laptops' screens preventing us from running the apps at 1/2 screen size.

Not having a password means that any casual passer-by can have access to all your personal data, or deleting it.

All iWork programs unexpectedly quit

I just bought iWork and installed it on my MacPro. I have Leopard. I cannot open any of the programs. I always get the "the program unexpectedly quit". I tried restarting. I trashed a trial iWork 06. What's the problem? What do I do?

Did you reinstall iwork after installing leopard. It was suggested by Apple that we needed to reinstall iwork. If you did have you tried trashing the plist and restarting the application? You might also try repairing the permissions before restarting. These are all things that have helped others in the past.

I cannot update iWork programs through the App Store

I tried to open iPages after upgrading to Mavericks. I was given a report that the current software could not be opened and to contact the developer. Duh!
I have tried to download the new version from App Store. It won't do that since I have up to date software according to their record of purchase. I have now deleted and emptied the trash containing these old programs. Now I still can't download new versions.

Duh! I found the new programs. Consider this problem solved.

After updating to Mavericks, iWork update was unsuccessful.

I updated to mavericks. An iWork update began as well. Now the App Store shows that i successfully updated, but it is incorrect. iWork did not update, but because it shows that it did, I cannot seem to do anything to rectify the situation. What can I do?

Oops. By following the links to the right, under ‘more like this’, I found the answer.
Both versions of iWorks are in my applications folder; I had been opening Pages via a link, and therefore was accessing the old version, not realizing that the new one was also available.

What happened was you never accepted these apps into your Mac App Store account.
Drag & drop the apps in the Trash and use OS X Recovery to install them again. after installing the apps be sure to accept them into your account this time from the Purchases pane of the Mac App Store.

Can't open saved documents in any iwork program?

I can create and save new documents, spreadsheets, slideshows, etc. but I can't access them after I've closed them.

No iWork programs will "send via email"

I can not share any of my saved documents via email in pages or numbers. When I go to the share tab along the top, "send via email" is gray and not able to be clicked. I have seen other threads saying that the character "/" cannot be in the title and none of my documents have this issue. Any thoughts?

It may not be a slash, that is just the most common "illegal" character. Make sure your file name doesn't have anything other than letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores.
But, if you're talking about the share button in the toolbar, that was to share via iWork.com (beta). That service was discontinued last year & it took Apple until the 9.3 update to remove it from the default set of icons.
When all else fails, save the file or export it in the format you want to send & then attach it to a new e-mail message.
