OS X Mavericks uptade back
Hello!
If I update to Mavericks and if it is not good can I upgrade back to Mountain Lion?
Thanks.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course, but you need a backup made with OS X Mountain Lion. Before upgrading, make a Time Machine backup > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 By doing this, you will be able to get back to Mountain Lion if you don't like Mavericks. You can also use other apps like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper

Finder in Mavericks Bounces Back to Desktop 1
Whenever I do any operation in Mavericks Finder that involves an extraneous window like a progress bar, Mavericks always pulls me back to desktop one, whether I am in full screen mode or not. It didn't do this in 10.8, so I'm surprised no one else has written about it.
I fixed it; I think. It seems that the Finder is assigned to desktop one by default, though I can't say this for sure (it was in my computer). Anyway, you can make as many Finder windows as you like in other desktops (spaces), but whenever the system makes a new automated Finder window (like a progress bar for example), you'll be switched back to desktop one (but sans the progress bar or whatever it is, leaving you looking at an irrelevant screen). For me, this behavior is quite annoying.
But I believe I found the answer, and it's very simple. Click on the finder icon in the Dock and hold, and you'll see in the popup that it's assigned to desktop one. Assign it to none. That got rid of the problem for me, and now I can watch my progress monitors in full screen mode when I'm copying and such, tully tabbed and without a glitch.
Finally, I'm not running Google Drive at the moment so I think I can rule that one out.See if the startup disk needs repairing. (not the same as permissions)
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the disk. -

My old Mac died. I purchased a new Macbook Pro with Mavericks. I had purchased CS4 installation discs, but cannot use them to reinstall the software since the new computer does not have a CD-rom drive. I tried to reinstall the Adobe software from my back up drive. When I try to open the software, I receive an error message: "Error: 6." The steps listed on other postings for correcting this problem do not work, and I obviousuly cannot reinstall the software without a disc drive. Is there a way to reactive the license?
Things I've learned while trying to remedy this problem:
-- There is no FlexNet Publisher file to delete -- it doesn't exist in my file system.
-- License Recover App won't open (isn't supported by my system)
-- Changed all permissions to "Read and Write" -- still get Error: 6
Now what?gibbonyc,
Here are Adobe pages for downloading CS6, CS5, CS4, and CS3:

Iphone uptade back from 7.0.2 to 6.1.3
Hello, i am iphone 4 user. i have update my iphone v6.1.3 to v7.0.2 now i want how i back my iphone 4 v 6.1.3 please help me.
I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

For example, if I choose Mail->Preferences->Viewing->Use classic layout, it reverts just fine when the program is open. However, when I quit out of the program and then reopen it, Apple Mail reverts back to its default styling.
Any help would be appreciated.Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -

How can I go back to Leopard?
I just upgraded from leopard to Mavericks, and it's a total disaster. I don't know why, but almost nothing is working right. I can't move files into folders, I can't type text - if I hit the spacebar my cursor jumps to some open folder.
i can't open 2 folders at once.
- and lots of other problems.
- And for some reaosn the forums administrator decided that my being upset was offensive to him, so I've been blocked from posting any more discussions. (thankfully, I can still post questions.)
If I can't get these bugs fixed, I need to go back to Leopard, but I don't know how. Apple doesn't give us OS disks, and I don't have a disk image.
Any ideas at all? I'll literally be out of business soon if I can't get past this.
ThanksI just upgraded from leopard to Mavericks, and it's a total disaster.
Unsurprising, as a direct upgrade to Mavericks from Leopard is not possible.

Safari Crashing - Mavericks 10.9.2 - Help appreciated!
I am realatively new to OSX but have used Linux and Windows for years. New Macbook w Mavericks. I am getting the following crash report with Safari. About 1 in 10 times I see it load sucessfully for a second and then it crashes. Usually I get the problem report without ever seeing the browser. I have spent a LOT of time setting up this new Mac and everything else seems fine. I would really like to find a way to fix Safari surgically rather than reinstall. The crash reports change slightly from attempt to attempt. I will include 2 of them here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The reinstall of OSX removed Genieo. When Mavericks came back to life (after the install), it announced the Genieo is not compatible with Safari 7.x.x
That resolved my issue. However, I think I would have been much less scared if I could have just removed Genieo. What through me is that the crash report did not include the text "Genieo". In other examples I have seen on line that word was in there.
My advice to anyone reading this is if Safari in Mavericks is crashing at startup, assume you somehow picked up Genieo and use the information in Paul_31's post to attempt to remove it.
If all else fails, you can download OSX from the app store (onto your running OSX Mavericks machine). It will download as an app. Then run it. The installer will treat this like an upgrade (i.e. it won't wipe your system - at least not in my case). I emplore anyone following this advice to backup with time machine first!
In my case I had several Apps that needed reinstall after the upgrade, but nothing dramatic.
What worked:
MS Office 2013
Matlab 2013
What did not work:
TrueCrypt
GNUPG - pgp program I use with thunderbird
Virtual Box - The virtual machines were fine byt the executable needed a reinstall

IMac 24" doesn't start after installing Mavericks.
After installing Mavericks (10.9.2) the machine started having hiccups... rebooting at random times on it's own. After upgrading to 10.9.3, it only got worse. Reboots were more frequent (as little as 1 minute between each reboot). Then it took the final step and went into a state where it remains with black screen, the startup jingle may begin, but is killed within half a second or less... goes into a reboot loop. The DVD sounds, then it tries to reboot again, DVD sounds... sometimes the jingle starts... but is cut off by a reboot. Trying to get ANYTHING done with different key press combinations (option+command+R+P, D, T, Command, Option... pretty much every single combination one can find online for accessing safe boot or recovery or whatever... does not work. The machine seems to have been killed by Mavericks. I have come across a LOT of posts by other people who have experienced the same thing (rebooting after installing Mavericks) going back to October last year, and a few have experienced the same dead computer issue as I am having... all the while there is no fix or explanation from APPLE regarding this issue. I have even opened the machine up and checked all cable connections, tested the HDD on another computer (was ok), cleaned the memory module connectors etc. Before the total crash I had installed a temperature monitoring program with ventilator control, due to the DVD ventilator running at high RPM after installing Maverics. All the temp sensors were reporting modest temps (ranging from 39 - 79 Celsius (only the power supply was above 50 Celsius).
The computer is as useful as a brick by this point. Since it went dead, it has successfully started up 3 times (out of 500+ attempts), but rebooted within a couple of minutes, into it's cycle of dead reboots.
One way of getting it to boot and prepare for re-installation, is to keep the power button pressed until it sounds 3 times long, 3 times short and 3 times long beeps... it would only start making the first beep... then it rebooted in to death again.
Could it be that Mavericks is destroying the firmware, or even killing the hardware? I also have Mavericks on MBA and MBP, where the MBA has no problems, while the MBP freezes up every 2 days or so... requiring a forced reboot.
Anyone with a usable advice on what to do in order to get the machine working again? How many years does it normally take APPLE support staff to fix serious issues like this one? It's already been over 7 months since the first people began experiencing these issues with Mavericks, but nothing has been done about it on APPLE's end ... as far as I can tell.
Looking forward to some solutions.Just wanted to write the conclusion of this issue here, and make things as clear as possible.
I took the iMac to a support center, and they confirmed that several components on the power supply board were fried and other parts had been overheated. It took a few weeks for them to get the needed parts (much cheaper than replacing the entire unit). I brought the iMac back home and started it up, and it did work... but it was getting very hot very quickly. I was thinking that maybe I should install Mountain Lion on it, and get away from Mavericks... just in case.... the computer had been turned on for around 1 hour at that point, and then it rebooted.... and stayed dead for 10 minutes or so... until it could start up again. Was on for a few minutes... then dead again.
Clearly the cause of the problem was still present, and fixing the symptom did not prove to be a lasting solution.
The machine would not stay turned on long enough (when it DID turn on) for even formatting the disk, so I removed the SDD from it, formatted it with my MBA (connected through USB), and inserted it in the iMac again. Starting it up resulted in a few minutes being turned on, overheating and crashing. Having downloaded ML and created a USB installer for it, it was now a case of trying one's patience ... hoping for the machine to stay turned on long enough to make it all the way through the installation process.... it managed to do the first part of the installation after several hours of crashing and overheating.... and it came to a point where I simply turned it off and gave up... thinking that the problem simply was physical in nature, and not caused by Mavericks as I had assumed from the start. Next day I had renewed energy, turned the puter on and it behaved in the same way... turning off, then starting by itself trying to get through the installation.... it would fail again and again... I left the house, with it turned on, hoping that it would at least manage to finish at some point in time... so that I could write off my "BAD Mavericks" suspicion. When I returned several hours later, the installation was complete and the machine was purring quietly and the back of the computer was NOT hot like a steam iron.
Now it has been working for several days without any problems at all.
The final conclusion is this:
Mavericks IS at fault, and will physically DESTROY computers that are "somehow" not compatible with it. I would have thought that Apple had enough capable engineers to prevent the operating system to mess up the hardware in this way, but clearly I was wrong on that account. I can only WARN other people to even attempt installing Mavericks on puters of this type:
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
Serial Number (system): W8*******X89
Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-001B639688F7
Anyone claiming that Mavericks is not at fault, is plain and simple WRONG, in DENIAL or LYING. There is absolutely NO doubt in my mind any longer, that the problem was indeed Mavericks getting installed on the machine and messing with the hardware on a level where it should never happen. If someone working at Apple would like to purchase/replace my iMac in order to test it and figure out that this is a REAL problem, they are welcome to do so. I think it is more than guaranteed that the damage caused by this Mavericks nightmare installation will never be recovered, nor will the time and work lost ever be compensated, but I would actually like Apple to acknowledge their responsibility and failure to address this issue in a professional and responsible way.
IF Mavericks was NOT at fault, then someone should explain the logic behind the machine physically burning components shortly after the installation of Mavericks, and even when the SDD had been wiped clean with no OS, it was still overheating and shutting off, until it could finally have ML installed... and at that point it was cured and has worked flawlessly ever since. Not a single hiccup, no over heating, no problems.
My offer to sell/replace the iMac stands if Apple is really interested in looking at this SERIOUS issue with Mavericks. This is NOT a minor issue they should expect simply goes away, or will be ignored by people who experience their machines BURNING to pieces.
On my MBA and MBP Mavericks is not causing any problems, so it is not "all bad", but for the iMac it meant total annihilation.
Anyone who has installed Mavericks on their iMac of similar age as mine, having rebooting and overheating problems: REMOVE the Mavericks installation ASAP and get ML on it before it goes up in flames!
Other Mac's have been reported having the rebooting/overheating problems as well, although I have not noted down which builds those were. The problem is REAL and COSTLY for those who experience it.... both time-wise and in terms of lost time/work.
Hopefully this will help others from getting the same terrible experience as I got, and save some computers from burning up.

Mavericks upgrade forced iCloud. iCloud deleted Calendars & data.
I do not use iCloud. Here is what happened when I upgraded to Mavericks.
Backed up computer (thank God!)
Downloaded/installed Mavericks
Installation required Apple sign-in, which signed into iCloud
Changed System Preferences after installation to disable iCloud (for Calendar, etc.)
iCloud deleted Calendar, etc. data from computer... Gone from the computer. No option to keep my data.
If I sign back into iCloud (to get my data back!) It again deletes when I turn off iCloud...
I did not choose to use iCloud, merely upgraded to Mavericks and was forced to sign in. My data was deleted from the computer. My data, my computer.
Question:
Without restoring image backup (SuperDuper) or finding/restoring everything in Time Machine, how might I get my (kidnapped) data back from iCloud then turn iCloud off non-destructively?
I love many things Apple, but iCloud has cast a huge shadow over my love of Apple....and yes, I know that if I re-enable iCloud (God forbid!) that I could File->Export->Export all the Calendars, Reminders, Contacts, (hope I get everything)..... But I shouldn't have to export my own data from a single computer to protect it from an upgrade-required "feature".
So I'm hoping for an option to keep my data without having to protect myself from an upgrade... -
Am I stuck with slow Mavericks?
I am running Mavericks on an older (late 2009) MacBook Air. When I upgraded to Mavericks awhile back, I found that my machine was heating up fairly often and performed tasks extremely slow. I figured out that the memory was constantly full. I read that Mavericks was supposed to improve memory use with the new memory compression, but I find Mavericks to be using up more memory than Lion. (For the record, the memory is still almost full when I do simple tasks and only run one app at a time.) To try to resolve the issue, I did a clean install last night. The OS runs a little more smoothly, but the memory is still almost full most of the time.
Since it is an older machine, my computer came stock with only 2GB RAM. I realize there isn't much of an option to add more RAM and so I should buy a newer machine. But I need this one to last me for at least another year.
I figured I would ask the Apple community about whether I should try to go backwards to 10.7 or just stick it out with Mavericks until I can buy a new MacBook?EtreCheck version: 1.9.11 (43) - report generated June 7, 2014 at 9:41:53 PM GMT+2

My operating system is Snow Leopard 10.6.8. How do I upgrade to Maverick?
Back up your data, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading it; this won't be allowed on an incompatible machine. It doesn't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

My Epson Stylus SX535WD printer is not installing properly after Mavericks upgrade
Hi,
This morning - to my deep, deep regret - I uninstalled my Epson driver and associated software. I forget why I even did it now; I think it wasn't working very smoothly and I read on a forum it was wise to uninstall and reinstall if I have recently upgraded my operating software. I put Mavericks on back in February - and the printer/scanner has worked since then.
Anyway - I have spent the best part of the last 4 hours trying to reinstally the software - but now have no printers availabe as my constant error message. Epson advised me to install a 1.9Gb fix - which I have - and the latest epson software. But I can't find them on my laptop now. It is only when I click on Epson uninstall that I can see them sitting there - but with no indication of where they are on the computer. They aren't in downloads or applications... where else can i look? How else can I get this printer/scanner up and running again?
All tips VERY VERY VERY welcome. ThanksHave you installed Apple's latest Epson drivers?
They are here:
